Visited here randomly on a Saturday afternoon. I've been trying almost every fried chicken place nearby and added this to the checklist. Luckily lots of parking and no line both inside and the drive thru. This place is easily locatable and they have dedicated parking lot too which makes it very convenient. We went inside and ordered and food was ready rather quickly. Place is very airy and clean and was quite empty. Staff was very nice professional and quick. They seemed very focus on the work and not playing around. Brought the food home and everything was very fresh with generous chicken sizes and portions. Great to go containers too which I was able to recycle. Flavors were a bit lacking from seasoning or marinades or sauces. Why is this place so terrible to order from? My wife and I had to cancel an order this time and once before actually get a refund. I told the owner I would take down my review once I got my money back. We they did return. We ordered through DoorDash, after over an hr it showed our driver was still waiting on order and our wait time shift to make it an hour and fourth five minute delivery time. I finally got to try their $8.99 Nashville Fried Chicken sandwich on this Memorial Day.  I got it medium spice level, which was just right for my tastes, and I'll go with 4 stars - a pretty good sandwich but on slightly pricey side even for its good size.  I don't know what's in the Nashville breading recipe besides cayenne pepper, but it was distinctive in taste (a bit like a spicier Gus' fried chicken but not really) and paired well with the sauce and cole slaw.  The chicken breast was thick and succulent.  I did good by waiting for all the excitement to die down and for the long lines to go away at this location and only had a 5 minute wait as I ordered at their counter even though there were only a couple cars in the drive-thru.  I learned that their dining room will be open in mid June fyi. Waiting for the order, I chatted with the attendant, and asked him if he had tried all the various spice levels.  He said, "yeah, I've had 'em all, and man, I'll tell you - I couldn't feel my tongue with that highest spice level (Lil Insanity), it was crazy!"  Ha, sounds about right from the reviews.  His description reminded me of the spiciest food item I've ever had in my life and that was a spicy noodle dish in Nanjing, China - it numbed my lips and entire jaw for quite a while, and I was thinking, this isn't like food, it's more like anesthesia!  Anyway, I think I might know what he means, and like others have alluded to, I would try Lil Insanity only if you're reaalll curious as to what you can take. I was excited to see another location near PWK for our layover. I always grab their chicken sandwich when I'm down near MDW but didn't know about this location. They still weren't letting you eat inside, so we ordered and took it back to our hotel. The food was great like always, but the staff wasn't the best. I stood at the counter in front of the cashier for a few minutes while she looked at her phone. I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and she asked if I wanted a dipping sauce for that.. I was confused since I got a sandwich and not tenders. So I just figured I'd use it for my fries and ordered honey mustard to find out I was charged extra for sauce. Well played on the upsell. She then didn't know how to add sauce because I wasn't supposed to get sauce to begin with. They were giving free donuts in each bag for national donut day and it was funny to watch how confused they were. Every staff member didn't know another person added a donut, so we ended up with 4 donuts instead of 1. They just seemed very unorganized and poorly trained from the beginning. I first learned about Fry the Coop when I started seeing delicious food pics from this restaurant on my Yelp feed. Weeks later, I visited the Prospect Heights location and since then I've gone twice. As much as I want to like this place, my second time wasn't as great as the first. My first visit was the reason why I returned because on the first try I enjoyed my order of a medium chicken sandwich and tenders. The medium heat was just right where I could tolerate the flavor and spice. The chicken meat was tender and juicy with the outer skin nicely crisped. I was hoping the quality of my meal would remain consistent on my return visit. Sadly it fell flat. I ordered the same things again and this time I received a dry chicken with a soggy outer skin which couldn't be saved with a reheat in the toaster oven the next day. The medium spice leaned heavier on the hot side and made this meal inedible. The service on the other hand was pretty decent. As I pulled up to the drive thru there were about 10 cars in front of me. From the time I pulled up in line to when I received and paid for my meals, I waited a total of 20 minutes. I would love to come back but consistency is key. read more

This was the second of two food stops after having been on a 36 hour fast. The ordering is a bit confusing as it seems many new establishments are following these days. Very little available a la carte which drives me nuts because I want just to get the meat and not all these sides (bread?, pickles?) they add on to make you feel you are getting more for the high price but that's just the way it is. $7.99 for two tenders is too much for me! The chicken was very tasty - we ordered one Nashville Fried Chicken sandwich which was $12 however they had no "healthy" sides whatsoever - unless you consider coleslaw healthy. Wouldn't it be nice to maybe have a green salad or some green beans or broccoli or something else so that at least you could balance out the meal? Ate here a second time and liked the sandwiches even more this time! I think my favorite is the spicy honey butter sandwich with Medium heat. The honey butter tastes sweet, salty, and savory. It reminds me of Chicago style caramel popcorn and the chicken goes very nicely together with it! I really do not recommend getting the "Hot" heat because it is not just a step up from the medium, it is like 5x more spicy. The medium has very little kick to it, but the hot is like eating the black hot korean ramen with the entire sauce packet. It will hurt your taste buds, your stomach, and you will probably start sweating! I can handle heat pretty well, but wow...it was really spicy. My wife and I were excited that this was opening closer to us! When I pulled up to the drive-through the had a few employees standing outside taking orders, like the way they do it at Portillo's. There wasn't much of a line when I got there but really got busier by the time I left. We got a mild Nashville Fried Chicken sandwich, hot Chicken and Cheese sandwich, and cheese fries.
