This isn't the nearest Fry's to me, but only two stores anywhere close to me carry Kreschmar beef balogna, which is the only brand my dad will eat. That's the only reason I ever shop here. Fry's at 83rd and Lower Buckeye, which is a bit of a drive, and this one. The store is okay inside, but as others have noted, making your way inside through smokers and the unhoused can be disconcerting for those bothered by such things. I'm bothered by the former, not the latter. I'm bothered way more by the terrible parking situation. Unlike some other reviewers, I've found customer service to be friendly and helpful. If you need to stop in for a quick gallon of milk or something, I'd say to go elsewhere, but there aren't many stores in the area. I stopped by this Fry's location to pick up some Diet Pepsi on the last day of the sale. I had loaded the coupon on the app, but it didn't ring up on the sale at the checkout. I triple checked the coupon was loaded. Normally at the Scottsdale Fry's where I normally shop, they would adjust the sale because it was an IT mistake. Not at this location. When you visit some fantastic Fry's stores in the Valley, some may be old, some may be newer, and some are in the middle of the road. For most cases, they're very clean, semi if not modern and up to date, if somewhat well stocked, with exuberant staff, and obliging management. Generally, this Kroger sibling holds well and competitive overall - albeit not great. They have improved their offerings in the ten years we've been living in the neighborhood. For the most part they are competitive and reasonable both in terms of customer service, available goods and stock as well as price. But this particular store, this bastion of need and necessity as far as grocery stores go and our neighborhood needs in proximity, this particular Fry's especially, is want of an upgrade, from improved and consistent products to a more youthful, serviceable, convenient and nuanced layout and display and especially needing some serious remodeling and security enhancement (it's not safe shopping after dark here) - in a worst case scenario, maybe even something more drastic! This store is incredibly outdated. With as much of an upscaled, new residential development and vast amount of local, older neighborhood consumer's money spending that shoppers commit to food in necessity within this South Mountain, Baseline Road community along with the existing older neighborhood to its north - a much better store is not only required or desired but should be a mandate by the community, and an explicit and immediate execution by Kroger. This community is in transition and this particular Fry's stands out from almost every other one I've visited and is very, very ungratifying and sometimes disheartening to visit - if not for quick and immediate needs. With a rapidly gentrifying and growing diverse community around it, as well as many, many new multicultural residents here, integrating with the newer, integrating affluence, and existing community it is a disservice not only to those who are forced to shop away from the neighborhood, but for the very local community surrounding this store who may not have an alternative. We're 3 minutes from this store but usually end up at your East 24th Street and Baseline location. Why do we? This all boils down to two distinct factors Fry's bottom line and ours - as well as the community's expectation. You can certainly be more competitive, economically profitable, customer-conscious and welcoming if this store would improve its demeanor, condition, quality and products significantly. The store employees need to be retrained. Store management needs to restore order and keep the riff rafff out. Why have self service machines if you don't use them both sides. Clean up your store more often and do inventory more often as well. App should be able to work. Security/police need to be outside not inside. Some of the Management are ok, but there is one who needs a couple more weeks training in customer service and patience. She would not listen to my problem, and assumed all bad because i am a food stamp reciepent. They discriminated me and charged my ent card for $50 and then cancelled my order and made me take everything out of the bags that was already bagged and rescan it all. Then they said the 50$ would ne credited back ro me and it never was. So a week later i went on to find out whats going on and the little girl that said she was a manager. Her name is Kaitlin by the way... She was rude to me and she wouldnt even listen to what i was saying and this happened on July 4th. i still never received a refund. I want to be honest and I called 30 minutes after the deli closed to get a 6 feet sub. The manager could not figure how to write my order. It is all on paper, so I now have to call in at 6am and see if they can do it the same day. Why not train managers on basic tasks. I understand that she maybe new and not trained in this area. I used to shop at this location but hadn't in over a year. I went here just recently and was shocked at how messy and unorganized that this location has gotten. The patio furniture is dirty, worn and looks abandoned. There is stuff by the customer service line which looks out of place and junky. This location needs a serious cleaning and makeover!! When I used to shop here, it was clean, the furniture was organized and beautiful. I've even purchased patio furniture from here years ago which, I ended up giving away as I needed bigger items. I was disappointed that this location has fallen off so bad. I also thought that this location was too small for the inventory that they carry... there's nothing like the Marketplace locations. Those are the best locations to shop! I do however, give this location a thumbs up for being one of the top places to go for lottery tickets since it's known to have winning tickets. I won $500 from this location over 10 yrs ago and have met others who go here regularly who have won at this location as well! Although this location isn't in the best part of town, which I can say because I used to live down there, as evidenced by the security guard at the front doors, the location is clean and well stocked with friendly helpful employees. They also stock dry ice which can be difficult to find. read more

I went to this frys yesterday and was treated horribly by the manager Elona. Not only was she rude to me but to her employees as well. It's so unbelievable how she thinks it's okay to push around her employees around as if they don't matter. Her work ethic is horrible and I would not recommend going here. I heard that none of the stores that she's worked at liked her and from my own personal experience, I understand why. Looking for a grocery store where scores of women will press their bodies upon you? Then look no further than the Fry's at the intersection of 7th St and Baseline! What starts off as a seemingly average shopping experience turns into an endurance test of how much space you can occupy and still call your own. The women who shop and work at this store have absolutely no problem rubbing up against you. It doesn't matter whether you are picking out milk or ordering deli meats. They will just press against you and reach for whatever you happen to be standing by. Personal space and individual boundaries have no meaning with the women at this place and that can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. The store itself is decent. Fry's has some good deals and always seems to be well-stocked. They have a good variety of brands to choose from. The employees are polite. I guess my only real gripes are how they always seem to be stocking the soda aisle, which is always crowded, and how there's only one main entrance. This store is honestly really nasty, don't let the facade outside fool you. Drips of dried milk product on dairy coolers, don't even want to know the last time they were cleaned. Maybe if the employees would spend a little less time socializing and a little more time working, the health department may not shut this place down. I would never buy anything consumable in this store. It needs a serious deep clean and/or a gut and remodel. Looks like it hasn't been touched since about 2000. I have seen other older Fry's locations that are dated, but much, much cleaner than this one. Spare yourself some nausea and just go to the one on 24th St. and Baseline instead. read more

We've been using the scan & go system for a few months and it's certainly not stable. Today the system wouldn't read the handheld and after several attempts with different handhelds we were sent to a regular register. I don''t mind helping training employees to troubleshoot but we lost a good part of our weekend waiting time. Train your folks to fix the problems! read more

This is the closest Fry's to me. I like how the store closes at midnight. It's really hard to find grocery stores that are open late in the South Phoenix Area. The selection of products are great and the prices are reasonable. The associates are not the most friendly. I walked passed many of them and I wasn't offered any help.
