It starts off a little funny because you have to figure out the right door, then march yourself up the stairs like you're reporting for duty. Once you get up there, though, it feels like the kind of cool old place that's seen some things. You can almost feel the years rolling by, from Caribbean rum days to whiskey nights to the modern era of "smart cocktails," where they put things like herbs and intentions in your drink. The vibe was right. Cocktails were great--strong enough to matter, smooth enough not to apologize for. The food was excellent across the board, the kind that makes you stop talking for a minute so you can do some serious fork work. Most important, our waiter Shane was dead on the mark: there when you needed him, gone when you didn't, and never once tried to explain the menu like we'd just landed from Ohio for the first time. I can't find a single thing to complain about, which for me is almost a complaint in itself. Good value, good food, and a good scene--about all you can ask from an afternoon you're not spending at work. Next visit will be brunch, and I hope it's soon. Disappointing Experience…read more A group of friends and I recently visited Rivers and Speakeasy because I was considering renting the venue for a private party. After experiencing the service firsthand, I'm very glad I checked it out before making any plans. The waitress was nice, but the service was extremely slow. From the moment we arrived, we waited a long time just to be greeted, and then waited even longer to order and receive drinks. When our friends arrived, they experienced the same thing. They waited so long that they eventually went to the bar to try to get drinks, only to be told that they had to order through their server. The problem is, when the server isn't around and you've already been waiting, what are you supposed to do? Unfortunately, the food didn't impress us either. I personally did not find it appetizing, and overall, the experience was not what I expected. I'm actually glad I visited before considering hosting a party there because, based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable renting the venue for an event. If you don't mind waiting a very long time for drinks, food, or basic service, you may have a different experience. But for our group, the service moved at a "molasses" pace, and I would not recommend it based on our visit.

When I questioned, the female bartender about the price of a frozen margarita, and shot she immediately stated it was $15 and $6 stated that they thought the two earlier frozen mango margaritas had not been paid for. Obviously that was a false statement because they would've never allowed a patriot to walk away without paying for drinks from the bar this was just a way to justify them overcharging him. Although a refund was issued after I raised the issue, it was still inaccurate only $30 was returned instead of the full $34.39, excluding tax. Additionally, no apology or clear explanation was provided. This experience reflects poorly on the establishment's billing accuracy and transparency. Customers should carefully review their charges, as pricing appears inconsistent for identical items. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this establishment.

For my entrée, I had the branzino with crispy skin, and it was cooked to perfection. The combination of lemon, herbs, and capers worked beautifully, and the fish practically melted in your mouth. They just opened and are still working out a few of the inevitable kinks that come with a new restaurant, but when it comes to the food, they absolutely hit the bullseye. I'm a HUGE fan of a glass of fruity Sangria on a hot day! The fact that it was Happy Hour with $5 glasses made it even easier to draw me inside!! When I explained this was my first visit, they explained the Curio concept, the various areas for sitting, sipping and gathering as well as the Curio Card process. They even had a small but really intriguing menu of various snacks, from charcuterie to flatbread and even dessert. The menu changes a couple times a month, making me want to plan more visits! The staff offered me sips of each so I could decide on a Sangria flavor. Despite not being a Moscato fan, I chose the Moscato Mule Sangria. It was light, refreshing and had the Moscow Mule flavors with the added sweetness of Moscato wine. I wandered into the cellar to explore more wine offerings and wound up running into fellow educators and their friends I had never met. We chatted like we were catching up and laughed about shared birthdays and teaching!! They invited me to hang with them, but I had to get home for Dog Mom Duty. Those medallions were expertly prepared and packed with flavor, the kind that makes you reconsider your own plate. We finished with cheesecake and berries. The cheesecake did its part. The guy who sent me assured me that, although this restaurant serves meat, the owner delights in accommodating vegan orders. He didn't lie. Owner Kumar is gregarious, enthusiastic about his menu, and kindly helped me put together a wonderful vegan order: achari eggplant, Chana masala, tofu asparagus, onion bhajai, and aloo parantha. There was so much love in the way he gestured to his daughter who was at the register, and referred to his wife in the kitchen. Quite a wholesome vibe.
