I didn't even know you can make banana water LOL), some sparkling coconut water, and some veggies. I loved everything I got, and I'm already planning another grocery list to go to Foodland for more of their goodies! Some of their prices are a little higher than those of other grocery stores, but not terribly so. Honestly such a great snack combo. We also grabbed a sushi tempura roll and were surprised by how good it was since we saved it for the next day for an early morning snorkel sesh: it was fresh, crispy, and filled with big chunks of shrimp, easily better than what some sit-down restaurants serve. The crispy Japanese sweet potato drizzled with a bit of honey was incredibly comforting and homey, and a nice balance of sweet and savory. We also tried the chicken katsu, which had a light, crisp breading and came with fluffy white rice topped with furikake. The side potato salad was refreshing with nice, chunky pieces of potato and not overly heavy. Perfect spot to grab quality food quickly before heading out to do other day-long activities. I've always enjoyed the selection of items from the bakery section--I like coming here for just a cake slice or single piece of cheesecake sometimes. One thing that does annoy me is that some of the aisles are now locked up and need a customer service associate to come unlock the display and give you your item. When I have a choice, I will wait and go to another place that doesn't lock items up like that. I would rather the store pay more for security and loss prevention than to inconvenience shoppers and make them get customer service to unlock items. That's just me. Good variety of items, helpful clerks at the front. Just wish I didn't need someone to help me unlock my items.

And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. It looked the same as it did the first time I went with my grandfather. I picked up a couple pounds of dry aku for my favorite sister and some tee shirts as memorabilia. It was pretty busy and I expect that will continue until They close. Still, the people were nice and very helpful. I'm really going to miss it!
