I have to agree that everything about this restaurant is just perfect. The food, the environment, friendliness of the staff, decoration and also the right price. I hate the restaurants that charge too much but their food and service is below satisfactory level. If you are in Boise, and haven't given this place a try. Definitely do so. My son and daughter-in-law introduced me to really fantastic sushi in San Francisco. I became a huge fan immediately so when I got back to Boise I decided to give Fujiuama a try based on the reviews on Yelp! I was pleasantly surprised! Sushi was very fishy, did not seem fresh. Spicy tuna had an odd taste to it. We had three rolls, had to take the salmon out of the nuruto roll it was so fishy, made the whole roll not edible. We did not try any cooked food, if you end up here, try that instead maybe it will be better than the raw stuff. Service was good but I don't think anything can make up for the not fresh taste. Would not return, terribly misled by the 4 start review - we expected some very fresh and tasty rolls for $15 a roll. I'm thinking of giving up the search for good fish in Idaho. read more

Loved this place. As far as Sushi goes in Boise, this is becoming our go-to restaurant (esp. now that Zutto's is closed). We've been to Shige's several times, but find that Fujiyama tastes fresher, and has a more pleasant atmosphere. Also, they have an awesome lunch special. I'm not sure just how traditional they are, but the food is fresh, and reasonably priced. Regardless of their strip-mall location near Boise Towne Square Mall, Fujiyama has the best sushi in town - and I'm quite certain we've tried them all. Even compared to good mid-scale sushi restaurants in Portland and Seattle, Fujiyama holds its own. Don't come here expecting upscale decor - it's fairly casual, and great for families (complete with a kid-friendly menu). But the staff is friendly and efficient, and the fish is extremely fresh. My single favorite item is the tuna Poki, with the "Target Roll" as a close second. In the past five years, we've probably eaten here 50+ times, and haven't had a bad experience yet. I live in Boise and have been frequenting "Fuji's" for a long time now and I have never had a bad experience. The owner is always there and very friendly as are all of the wait staff. A very nice gentleman, Ben is usually our server and always does a great job! The sushi is always fresh and delicious and I love all of the varieties. The restaurant is clean and well-kempt and the atmosphere is calm and cozy. Easily my favorite for sushi in Boise. Most disgusting sushi I have EVER had. The fish was absolutely appalling and the presentation was less than disappointing. Only in Idaho can you get such awful sushi. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have tried sushi all over the United States and I've never had such poorly made sushi in my life. Even their tea is horrible, totally over steeped. If I could give this place a negative rating I would rate it -3 stars. I told them I have a SEVERE shrimp allergy and the waitress said no problem, so what happens? First of all so sorry to the Idaho dad who would have wanted to smash the cooks heads in for undressing his daughter with the 3 cooks eyes and comments as she got up to simply exit with her young boyfriend. Secondly, my wife and I were waiting for our waitress to come take our order but she and 10 other Japanese women and other 10 Japanese men were eating. They were all cooks and workers, very weird. The sushi was flavorless , the Unagi had to be drowned to even finish it.. Sorry folks we eat actually good Sushi that's fresh..this place was way below average. The cooks kept jabbering in Japanese and had no interest in talking with my wife and I at the bar. No fun here and it the prices are higher than California good fresh Sushi! Speak English while in America..at least show some respect..or maybe go back to Asia? $15.95 for roll? C'mon people seriously? Ate there 2 times and wanted to give it one more try.. Finally! A Boise sushi joint that serves high quality, no frills traditional sushi, sashimi, and maki. No "special sauces" to hide poor quality ingredients. Freshly sliced sashimi when ordered (not prepped the morning of which dries out the fish) and hand made nigiri with the perfect proportions of rice and fish. I really love this place and it pains me to give it three stars. However, in recent years the quality of the chicken has become horrible. When I began eating here 7 years ago, the chicken was delicious. Slowly the quality has gone down hill and as of my visit this past week, the chicken was so terrible and rubbery I couldn't eat it. I wish this was an isolated issue, but it's not the first or even 3 rd time i haven't finished or eaten this part of the meal for the same reason. I will continue to go here because the sushi is wonderful, but will have to find an alternative to my favorite chicken entree. read more

Sorry, I wanted to like this place but it's just not possible. I found the service to be good though. But the quality of the sushi? Nope. I live in San Francisco so I guess I'm pretty spoiled as far as japanese food is concerned. And I'm japanese (nisei, 2nd gen) so I was raised on this kind of food. So without any egotism, I know what this food is supposed to taste like. Other reviewers who wrote that the sushi maybe isn't fresh because Boise is so far from the ocean forget that it's a 1 hour 45 min flight from SF to Boise. Obviously any restaurant anywhere in the US can get fresh fish if they're willing to pay for it. And if they care enough. But there probably isn't much competition in japanese food in this area. Quite disappointed at the quality here. Not sure why this has a 4-star rating. We are from out of town, so followed the rating to find this restaurant. The California rolls are made with fake crab. The Dragon rolls are salty and oily. Tempura was okay, but the Tonkatsu was dry too. All in all, formal Japanese price for a sushi joint quality. I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Food was great but they got mad that we came a hour before closing-which was 11. I understand, as we had 8 people but they talked loudly and said 'why didn't they call??' But they were just sitting around, eating so I did not see anything wrong with us being there a hour before and spending at least $100. Felt like they were just being completely rude to us and just kept looking at us. Our server did okay for the most part but after walking into them saying that loud enough for us to hear, I felt unwanted and did not want to even eat there. As a server, I understand being a little frustrated to a big group like that 20-30 minutes prior...but I felt like a hour was more than enough time to eat especially when we ordered quickly. Regardless we STILL tipped even more than 15-20% individually, even though some didn't want to because of the service and how they reacted, but we did anyways because we understand. The commentary was NOT necessary. This ordeal reminded me why I DO NOT go to Fujiyama. read more

My girlfriend and I went here and we had the "Fire Dragon", which was not only a beautiful presentation but was spicy deliciousness- the lemon was shaped into a dragon head. And the "Fiji Mountain" which had some scrumptous fried shrimp and crab in a sushi roll. We also had little Sake, soda and deep fried piece of awesome cheesecake- all that cost about 40 bucks, which I think is a good price for a nice 2 person lunch with good service and atmosphere. read more
