The basic cheeseburger - but a darn good one!!!

Was looking for a reasonably quick and inexpensive lunch with our teen boys, who eat a ton. We were all hangry after walking and driving all day. Being attached to an arcade, I was expecting carni food at best - boy was I wrong! The location is actually on the opposite side of the street from where it showed mapped, but you can't miss it. Fun and sparkling clean interior with a lot of older games, pinball and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Menu is a mix of burgers, pizzas, wings, Mexican and various apps and sides as well as draft beer. There are a few vegetarian options as well. Three of us had burgers and my wife, chicken tacos. The gentleman behind the counter (guessing the owner) was so kind and attentive, getting drink refills for us, changing silverware, etc. Food came out quick and the burgers and fries were actually better than any of the bar and grille eats in Santa Cruz we had over the last few nights, at a fraction of the cost. Patties tasted fresh, flavorful and juicy, cooked a perfect medium with cheddar cheese. Light and crispy fries, pickle, toppings and all nicely presented in a basket with care and love. My wife's chicken soft tacos were also very tasty and loaded with chicken. If you are looking for a quick and quality meal in HMB, kids or not, look no further!

Came in yesterday after a cold beach trip for Memorial Day. It was a bit early for dinner service, but traffic was backed up so we stopped in to check out the games and some food. Food: We ordered asada fries, fish and chips, chicken tenders. Everything made fresh to order. Prices were fair and the food was tasty. Really enjoyed the asada fries as the meat was flavorful and had a nice chopped consistency that you'd get when starting with a larger cut of meat. Beer options were good! Really enjoyed my blood orange hef. Service: Steven and staff were excellent. Attentive, friendly and thoughtful. You could tell he was appreciative that we stopped by and enjoyed spending time with his customers. Atmosphere: Clean and orderly. We sat in the booth with two kids and it was comfortable seating for all of us with playoff basketball for viewing. Arcade: Lot of pinball options and classic arcades. We really enjoyed the basketball game and played that 5-10 times. Pinball was a little harder for the kids, but they just need more practice. Token/card system was straight forward. Overall really liked the experience and would be fun to stop by again when we are in town for the beach. Give it a try!

Was looking for a place to get a bite to eat and this place came up on google. 10/10 will come back if we're in the area. Arcade was fun and the food was bomb. The staff is so kind and inviting. The whole vibe was amazing. They also have inside and outside seating. If you need a little date night or a place to take your kids for a few games and good food. This is the place.

Wow, I really wish we had this place where we live. We loved everything about it. The place is clean and you can tell ownership really cares about it. Lots of fun games. The food is expensive and took a while to come out- but that's a good sign. Instead of typical reheated arcade food it was made to order, big and delicious.

Intrigued, we decided to step inside and check it out. The building has a wonderful setup, functioning like a mini marketplace with charming little shops nestled inside. The one that immediately caught our eye, of course, was The Penny Ice Creamery. Right off the bat, I loved the aesthetic of the shop. The design is nice, simple, and wonderfully understated--nothing is over the top. It has a clean, minimalist vibe that makes you feel instantly welcome and lets the focus stay right where it belongs: on the treats. While the rest of the crew decided to sit this round out, my son and I eagerly stepped up to order. My son went with a classic scoop of Vanilla Bean. To say it was a hit would be an understatement. He kept talking about how delicious it was and just how good the flavor tasted. I decided to try the Chocolate Toffee Swirl. The chocolate base itself was rich and tasty, though I do wish it had a bit more of that crunch--it could have used a heavier hand with the toffee, as the pieces were a little sparse in my scoop. One thing worth noting is that they feature a curated, rotating selection. While everything they make is fresh, the menu is on the smaller side, so you do have to choose from what's available that day. I'd love to see them expand the menu a bit in the future because I'd definitely be curious to try more of their creations. We ordered the "kid scoops," which turned out to be good portions. Being a supportive dad, I naturally stepped in and finished the rest of his vanilla bean--and I can officially confirm his review was fairly accurate. Overall, The Penny Ice Creamery is a cool little shop with good treats. If you find yourself exploring the shops inside The Picnic Basket, it's absolutely worth a stop to cool down with a scoop. Have you been to The Penny Ice Creamery yet? What's your favorite flavor combo? Let me know in the comments below.
