If you find yourself in Kailua-Kona craving a bowl of hot, comforting, slurp-worthy noodles, let me save you the trouble of searching--Fumi's Kitchen is the spot. It's the kind of local gem where you walk in, take one deep breath of that rich broth in the air, and immediately know you made the right choice. Let's talk about the saimen first. The broth is light yet flavorful, packed with that umami goodness that makes you wonder if the chef secretly has a cauldron in the back. The noodles? Springy, chewy, and soaking up all that delicious broth like they were born for this. Add in the classic toppings--green onions, kamaboko (fish cake), char siu--and you've got a bowl of Hawaiian perfection. And then there's the udon. Thick, bouncy udon noodles swimming in a deep, rich broth that somehow feels both hearty and light at the same time. The atmosphere is casual, the service is warm, and the food makes you want to move to the islands permanently.

Stopped in at Fumi's Restaurant. I believe the owner is the son or grandson of Teshima's Restaurant. So the menu has similarities. Lot's of free parking in back. The restaurant looks more of a bar type style with tables inside and a beautiful outdoor seating. We ordered a variety of food. We had the Panko Crusted Pork Chop and Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Yakitori and Shrimp Tempura, Mahimahi Sandwich, Pork Sukiyaki and Shrimp Tempura, Teshima Bento, and some other items. Very easy review to sum up. Everyone loved what they ordered and said the taste was superb. My Sukiyaki was cooked perfectly with the right texture and semi sweet soy taste. The Shrimp was big and tasty and the tempura sauce was excellent. Service was incredible even when the restaurant were getting full. We had a great experience there and looking forward for my next visit.

FOOD IS #AKSHEN !! First time here. Recommend by my Family that lives in Kona. Parking is FREE in the open lot behind the Restaurant. We found out they are related to another one of our Favorite Restaurants in Kealakekua (Teshima's) So glad we could support the same Family. We were seated on a long table as we had 10 people. The server took our beverage order as we looked over the menu. We ordered a bunch of items and ate Family Style. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the Creamy Clams! The Kaua'i Shrimp Scampi was delicious too. The Oysters were very Fresh and served with a Ponzu Sauce. Their Yakisoba had all kinds of Goodies in it. Some of our group ordered the Pork Chops that is quit popular. One guy order Kim Chee Soup and enjoyed it. We went there twice while we were visiting. Food is Awesome! We had the best service from Nicole and Booboo. Mahalo for a wonderful experience both nights. We'll definitely be back again!!

Another place that thankfully doesn't have a long wait time in downtown Kona. Was greeted nicely when I walked in + sanitized + seated really quickly. The server was really nice when she came by but the service did feel a little slow/ we did have a hard time waving her down sometimes even though it wasn't that busy. Beef sukiyaki: The beef was tough it, was pretty hard to chew through it -- 3/5 Nabeyaki udon: Pretty underwhelming from what I'm used to. Didn't really contain an assortment of seafood as Nabeyaki udon traditionally does-- 3/5 Yakiudon chicken: this was pretty salty I definitely was reaching for my water while eating this but was still a pretty hefty portion size which I liked & I was starving Overall an ok dining experience. Nothing to wow at but I would come here if I was hungry and didn't want to wait at other places.

Service: Good! Food: Good! Price: Overpriced Portions: served in small portions Atmosphere: great music playing while eating, service was great, food was definitely good but the price does NOT match the food portion. It didnt stop us from having a good time tho. Hopefully the price or portions will be adjusted in the future. Dinner is from 6 to 9pm, after 9pm is karaoke! Bartenders are great! They have good heavy hands lol We enjoyed our time here! Its a small chill place so I wouldn't know how it be if it was packed but so far its a mellow place to enjoy dinner and have a little karaoke session after 9pm.

There's something about a flower being pinned to your hair as you're seated to eating a bowl of saimin as Unchained Melody plays in the background that brings a nostalgic smile to your face and makes you feel right at home. Oh - and if you ask the server what's in the Kona Beef Curry Stew... it's beef and curry. Ha. Tellin' them city folk like it is.

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

They cook their entree dishes at the main restaurant next door. My order did take a bit longer than intended, but it's ok we're in Hawaii. The container was filled with a large portion of white rice and the miso butterfish. Wished it came with less rice and maybe a side of steamed veggies. The miso butterfish was so good and moist! The bento shop is small. Most people just order takeout. There are a few tables inside and outside! You can order your food online or directly at the shop! There are sooo many options on the menu! It's very overwhelming if you're indecisive like me! haha The owner, Jordan, was so nice and friendly! She gave my friend and I so many items after to take home with us because they were closing for the week!! She gave us bento boxes and sushi rolls, and a lava slushie drink! Not to mention, the staff were killing it when turning tables! I went with the classic, Spicy Garlic Chicken. For me, it wasn't spicy at all. I added the kimchi cucumbers for my vegetable and they were fire. I even went back for the pork belly because dayummm. As always, expect a line. Because locals and tourists love this place! There was a long line out the door that slowly moved. Once inside, it was uncomfortably hot (no AC). So if you're heat-sensitive, be mindful that you might be waiting awhile. You order and pay at the counter. Upon receiving your number, you wait to be called to pick up your food. All items are served in takeout containers. They have several tables inside, or you can take it to go. The workers are all kind and work hard. Being a popular spot with made-to-order items, it took a while for our food to come out. The ambiance is casual, really not much decor or stuff to look at. My Dad and I shared the Two-Meat Combo. We chose Garlic Furikake Chicken and Pork Belly Fat Adobo as our proteins. Plus white rice as our starch and mac salad as our side. The portions are quite big; this was more than enough for us. The chicken was crunchy and tasty. Depending on the bite, some meat was a bit drier than others. The pork adobo was so good--melt in your mouth with the fattiness! The mac salad was a winner. Broke Da Mouth Grindz seems to be a go-to spot for locals and tourists in Kona. Beware, lines can be super long and wait times can vary. I'm happy to have tried it, but I wouldn't come again during a peak hour. Find them on Luhia Street with free parking in the plaza.
