Stopped in at Fumi's Restaurant. I believe the owner is the son or grandson of Teshima's Restaurant. So the menu has similarities. Lot's of free parking in back. The restaurant looks more of a bar type style with tables inside and a beautiful outdoor seating. We ordered a variety of food. We had the Panko Crusted Pork Chop and Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Yakitori and Shrimp Tempura, Mahimahi Sandwich, Pork Sukiyaki and Shrimp Tempura, Teshima Bento, and some other items. Very easy review to sum up. Everyone loved what they ordered and said the taste was superb. My Sukiyaki was cooked perfectly with the right texture and semi sweet soy taste. The Shrimp was big and tasty and the tempura sauce was excellent. Service was incredible even when the restaurant were getting full. We had a great experience there and looking forward for my next visit.

If you find yourself in Kailua-Kona craving a bowl of hot, comforting, slurp-worthy noodles, let me save you the trouble of searching--Fumi's Kitchen is the spot. It's the kind of local gem where you walk in, take one deep breath of that rich broth in the air, and immediately know you made the right choice. Let's talk about the saimen first. The broth is light yet flavorful, packed with that umami goodness that makes you wonder if the chef secretly has a cauldron in the back. The noodles? Springy, chewy, and soaking up all that delicious broth like they were born for this. Add in the classic toppings--green onions, kamaboko (fish cake), char siu--and you've got a bowl of Hawaiian perfection. And then there's the udon. Thick, bouncy udon noodles swimming in a deep, rich broth that somehow feels both hearty and light at the same time. The atmosphere is casual, the service is warm, and the food makes you want to move to the islands permanently.

FOOD IS #AKSHEN !! First time here. Recommend by my Family that lives in Kona. Parking is FREE in the open lot behind the Restaurant. We found out they are related to another one of our Favorite Restaurants in Kealakekua (Teshima's) So glad we could support the same Family. We were seated on a long table as we had 10 people. The server took our beverage order as we looked over the menu. We ordered a bunch of items and ate Family Style. Everything was delicious but my favorite was the Creamy Clams! The Kaua'i Shrimp Scampi was delicious too. The Oysters were very Fresh and served with a Ponzu Sauce. Their Yakisoba had all kinds of Goodies in it. Some of our group ordered the Pork Chops that is quit popular. One guy order Kim Chee Soup and enjoyed it. We went there twice while we were visiting. Food is Awesome! We had the best service from Nicole and Booboo. Mahalo for a wonderful experience both nights. We'll definitely be back again!!

Another place that thankfully doesn't have a long wait time in downtown Kona. Was greeted nicely when I walked in + sanitized + seated really quickly. The server was really nice when she came by but the service did feel a little slow/ we did have a hard time waving her down sometimes even though it wasn't that busy. Beef sukiyaki: The beef was tough it, was pretty hard to chew through it -- 3/5 Nabeyaki udon: Pretty underwhelming from what I'm used to. Didn't really contain an assortment of seafood as Nabeyaki udon traditionally does-- 3/5 Yakiudon chicken: this was pretty salty I definitely was reaching for my water while eating this but was still a pretty hefty portion size which I liked & I was starving Overall an ok dining experience. Nothing to wow at but I would come here if I was hungry and didn't want to wait at other places.

Service: Good! Food: Good! Price: Overpriced Portions: served in small portions Atmosphere: great music playing while eating, service was great, food was definitely good but the price does NOT match the food portion. It didnt stop us from having a good time tho. Hopefully the price or portions will be adjusted in the future. Dinner is from 6 to 9pm, after 9pm is karaoke! Bartenders are great! They have good heavy hands lol We enjoyed our time here! Its a small chill place so I wouldn't know how it be if it was packed but so far its a mellow place to enjoy dinner and have a little karaoke session after 9pm.

There isn't a whole lot of seating inside, but we came early so there wasn't any difficulty getting a table. There are fans inside but no A/C, so it wasn't remarkably cooler inside than it was outside but still much nicer than being out in the sun. The waitress gave us a menu and also showed us some specials that were written on a whiteboard in the store. I thought the prices were incredibly fair and would have ordered more food if I was hungrier, but I ended up getting their special rice bowl and my husband ordered a tempura udon. The service was fairly quick and we got some ice water at the dispenser at the front of the store, which was very refreshing. The tempura udon my husband had very flavorful broth and the shrimp tempura was nice and juicy inside. My rice bowl was very substantial and was quick to fill me up. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rice nice and fluffy, and the green onions and seaweed salad were refreshing. The wasabi added a good kick and the ginger was a wonderful palate cleanser in between bites. I had such a lovely time here and the entire kitchen staff bid us goodbye when we left. I would love to come back another time when I have the chance!

Note: The food court mall was a little off the beaten path, behind a gas station. It's an open air seating and houses a number of local establishments that seem more catered to locals than tourists. There is ample seating, and restrooms are available. The only bad part about it is it can get a bit hot and stuffy in there, but at least they had big fans blowing. The chicken karaage (family size) was oh so good - very fresh, big pieces, and a yummy taste! Everything was fried fresh to order. Found it sweet that a haole woman who spoke fluent Japanese seemed to be training a younger Japanese gentleman who didn't speak much English. Per chance, happen to swing by this food court per request of a family member in hopes of grabbing some Malasadas in the bakery nearby afterwards. 6. Realizing that we stumbled into the food court anyways, it was fated that we were meant to proceed with placing an order for some chicken. 7. After a short wait for food to be prepared, I'd confirm that the fried chicken is solid, tater tots were good as well, and the mac salad was just okay.

The waitress greeted us warmly and got us iced waters and menus to order. I ordered a Dragon roll and my husband ordered a Curry Katsu Bento. The Dragon Roll was incredibly fresh and delicious. The tempura had a nice and crispy breading that paired well with the creamy sauces and avocado that topped the roll. It was a refreshing meal on a hot summer day in Hawaii. The sushi was also beautifully plated with a decorative cherry blossom plant on the side, which I found delightful. My husband though the curry katsu bento was substantial and filling. The dumplings in the bento had a juicy and savory filling, the curry was thick and flavorful, and the katsu was tender. The rice was nice and fluffy. There was so much food in the bento that my husband ended up leaving some of the cabbage salad behind because he was unable to finish it. The service was lovely and the waitress would come in to check on us and refill our waters when she saw they were running low. The inside of the restaurant was nice and peaceful, and it was a lovely way for us to spend our first night on the Big Island. I'd definitely come back someday when I visit again.

If interacting with customers makes you this visibly irritated, perhaps customer service isn't the right line of work. I came here afterward to see whether anyone else had experienced the same thing, and apparently they have. When multiple customers are complaining about the same rude behavior, the problem clearly isn't the customers. Horrible people, horrible atmosphere, horrible experience.
