This is some of my absolute favorite Italian food. The interior of Fumo is chic but not over the top. Servers are attentive and efficient. Bathrooms are immaculate. Drinks are strong. Everything is reasonably priced. Food is delish and portions are huge. You can't go wrong with Fumo. The perfect spot for girls night or date night. Last night we had calamari, penne vodka with burrata, rigatoni with mushrooms, tiramisu, sangria, aeperol spritz and 2 lemon drops. After tax and tip, the bill was under $200. The seating was spacious and the view felt right on a good day. The truffle fries are great for a table order. The grilled salmon itself is delicious, I'd say do yourself a favor and ask to not have the kale. The kale is very acidic and taking a bite of it will have you looking like a lemon head. Late night and I kinda come upon the place on my way home, last hour before closing. By that time it was pretty quiet so I eased into a nice cocktail night cap. The place was clean and spacious, gorgeous bar with clean cut granite counter top. The service was good, my bartender was helpful and warm. Truffle fries were also good with a generous portion. I must say, their lunch special is pretty amazing in terms of affordability. The truffle fries were crispy & they were pretty generous with the truffle. The service was a little too quick in my opinion, as my mother and I were being rushed to order as soon as the server put water down on our tables. Perhaps because we didn't order a lot or there were more tables with larger parties to take care of more, but we felt rushed and felt like a bother. I felt worried that I was bothering the host or server. Despite that, the pasta was solid & yummy! I like how they had beef bolognese, no pork! And the serving size is very large so be prepared to take the rest home. They also give bread but I believe you have to ask them (as my mom had to.) Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. This location was their newest and I was quite impressed. There are a ton of sit down Italian restaurants in the area and I for sure endorse this spot. We got the Fried Calamari ($19) for appetizers. They were nicely fried. What stood out to me was their marinara sauce, which tasted fresh with tomato pieces. Delicious. Unfortunately some of the sauce came out of the dish so some of the calamari came out soggy. My gf ordered the Fumo Burger ($21), which included lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and chipotle mayo. It was a decent burger from the bites I got to try. I ordered the Penne Vodka ($21) and this was delicious. Cannot go wrong with this with a little bit of crated cheese when the server comes around with the cheese grate. Our third guest ordered the Spaghetti Vongole ($24). Generous amount of clams soaked in white wine garlic brodino. Service is pretty good for the most part. We had our main waitress, but also two others did come by to assist us and take our order. One was the host and the other seemed possibly be the owner? Everyone was friendly and gave great recommendations. Perfect for date night or family gathering. Very good food and very vegan-friendly. The vegan cashew pesto spaghetti was outstanding. For our pizza, we wanted to keep it lighter so went with a margherita pizza with the cheese held (instead of the vegan pizza on the menu that came with vegan cheese). They held the cheese but unfortunately also held the basil, so it was a little plain, but the sauce still had great flavor and the crust was excellent. My non-vegan friends loved the vodka sauce rigatoni and the creamy mushroom pasta. The bread and olive oil is also great. I am simply a sucker for both pasta and a lunch special, and that's all you need to know in terms of why this review is 5 stars. $12 pasta, for a portion as big as what they give you at Fumo, is just unbeatable. I was so tempted to get two plates just because I could. Salads are also included in the special! I got the penne funghi, which came with plenty of mushrooms and a really flavorful sauce. And with that parmesan cheese on top???? So good, so delectable, it's taken over my thoughts just looking at the photo of it. Ambience is bright and good for getting food with friends! It is definitely on the smaller side, and I'm not sure how busy they get around dinner time, but lunch definitely didn't seem too bad. We had the spaghetti vongole, the carbonara, creme brûlée and some Italian beer, everything was delicious. They offer lunch specials during the week with pastas and salad at only $12. It's very affordable and the portions are big. Definitely a place I'll be coming back to try more items of their menu as everything looked delicious. If you pay in cash theres a discount. The decor and music was nice and their bar is huge. I would say this has become my favorite Italian place in upper east side and would recommend anyone to try it. Decided to check out Fumo for their happy hour and loved it! Our server was extremely attentive and kind, and everything we tried was delicious. We got $8 fried mozzarella for the table, $8 sangrias, and lots of food! My friends had the penne vodka, chicken parm, a salad, and alfredo pasta. I tried the funghi pizza. The servers were noticeably attentive and enjoyable to interact with and we got our food in a timely manner. All of the food was really good! I went for the $12 pasta special for lunch. It was good pasta, certainly worth the price! Not sure if it would be worth the full price (which is about double.) The service was pretty good with very kind humans. My biggest issue was that the smell of their calamari dish was *very* potent. I don't like seafood but I'm often at dinner with friends who get it, and I've never been so repulsed by the smell of it. It wasn't even close to our table. Chose Fumo because it seemed like a good experience based on the reviews and images we had seen, and it was a short subway ride from our hotel. During our anniversary trip to NY, we were looking for a place that would serve us enough options that would accommodate our choices and requirements. Fumo's menu seems to offer enough options. We arrived for early dinner knowing it was a Friday night and the place would probably be busy, I had made reservations so we were seated within a reasonable amount of time. There were plenty of tables to choose from but they accommodated us all the way in the back in a very small table extremely close to another table that was already occupied. When I inquired if we could simply move one table over to leave a small buffer between tables, we were met with attitude and unwelcomed facial expressions, not wanting to upset those who would be handling the food we were just about to consume, we opted to stay put and endure the cramped accommodations. Strike One. Our purpose was to have a dry January but since this was a special occasion, we opted for a pitcher of Sangria (white) what was delivered was nothing more than watered-down white wine, with no attempt to make it look like a sangria as there was no fruit added to the mix. Initially, we asked the staff if the fish was farmed or wild-caught, and he indicated that he thought it was farmed. This was a deal breaker for us so we nodded and kept looking for other options, the waiter sensed our disappointment so he said he would ask just to be safe. He returned and told us that the fish was in fact wild-caught, so despite our misgivings, we ordered Branzino and Salmon respectively. Much left to be desired, the fish were watery and bland with nary a side, in general terms a very dismal experience overall. Typically, I would give a restaurant a few chances before even writing about them, especially if the experience was on the negative side, but considering we dropped almost $250.00 for the dinner and this place is in NYC, with so many other options to try, I seriously doubt we will ever be back.
