We got married last October and I am not exaggerating when I say the number one thing people still bring up about our wedding is the food. Not how beautiful it was, not the flowers... but THE FOOD. 100/10! Tasting/menu: Our tasting experience was great. We were honestly very split between going with here or another place, but we ultimately landed on fundamental because the add-on stations made it easy to get everything from one place and they seemed to know the ins and outs of our venue very well. After deciding to go with fundamental, we did a second round to solidify our menu. We did a full bar with our signature drinks, passed apps, some stations, and plated dinner. They were also very accommodating on a few modifications to the salad and petit filet mignon to cater our personal tastes. And they were super accommodating with coming up with a separate app and entree for one family member who handle many allergies and dietary restrictions. Food: Delicious! We had 3 passed apps (fried chicken pops, crab cakes, and tomato burrata crostinis) and they made a mushroom flatbread for the family member with the allergies. Our favorite was the crab cakes. We did one hour of the raw bar and the oysters were amazing and fresh! Absolutely worth it. We went with the red wine poached pear salad because it was super unique. They were able to substitute the kale with arugula for us. Entrees we picked were the petit filet mignon (with our requested modifications), branzino, and king oyster mushroom scallopini. The steak actually turned out even more delicious on the day of than we remembered it from the tasting. We had a couple no shows, so fundamental was nice enough to pack up some leftovers we could keep enjoying for several days after! And finally we did a banana fosters and ice cream station - 100% worth it and so good. Service: Also amazing! Our point person actually changed twice in the months leading up to our wedding due to unforeseen circumstances- we can't deny that we were a little worried, but they were super communicative throughout and everything worked out perfectly in the end! We loved that they set aside our signature drinks and apps for us right after the ceremony when we signed our marriage license- it was a nice time to decompress and also get some food in us. They also designated one server to make sure we always had a full drink in hand during dinner service and she was so attentive. We happily chose Fundamental after a bad experience with another catering team, their tasting was disappointing, we got our deposit back, and we had to scramble to find someone new. When we reached out to Fundamental, Lauren replied right away and was immediately helpful. We set up a tasting based on what we were looking for, and when we arrived, the presentation and attention to detail stood out immediately. It was a private tasting, and they started us with cornbread and honey butter that wasn't even on our original menu. After trying it, we knew it had to be part of the wedding dinner. Finding a caterer 2 months before your backyard wedding is no joke! Because we were throwing our wedding in our backyard, we wanted the food to be excellent - nothing the elderly folks in my family could complain about later! After contacting several caterers in the area - many were no longer available for our date, some were WAY too expensive, some were very unresponsive or required multiple emails to get a response. getting desperate, i googled "LA Caterers" on Eater and found Fundamental listed on one of their articles. I was worried because they had been featured it would turn out to be very expensive but i was pleasantly surprised that the initial quote was reasonable! not the cheapest but not the most expensive. More importantly - i got a quote and contact immediately. I worked with Lauren - who was very professional and communicative. That alone sold me immediately. For me - having someone reliable take care of something as important as food for the wedding was worth the price. In addition - the menu was vast and had a wide variety and the tasting was EXCELLENT. We went with soy marinated steak and sea bass for our entrees. Both were cooked to perfection and the flavors on point! The passed appetizers were also a hit - pork steamed bun, thai shrimp bite, and popcorn chicken. In addition to a meat/cheese station. For sides we had roasted potatoes - but they werent just normal potatoes - very lemony and flavorful, ive never had potatoes like that before! The grilled asparagus were also delicious! Not stringy or over cooked - not to mention they were ENORMOUS, like baby trees! Dessert - we opted for creme brulee, smores bite, and lemon bar, The creme brulee was slightly under but it was still very tasty! I realize now it may be difficult to prepare creme brulee off site. Lastly - the bartending - the most important part - was AMAZING! we booked a full bar and Ryan the bartender was great! Aside from the delicious food, Fundamental was able to set up their kitchen in our small ADU and cooked out of there the whole night. they were also excellent with the clean up! From the moment we connected with Fundamental, Cindy made us feel confident we could have a fantastic meal within our budget. Lauren, Jessica, and team were incredibly professional and helpful from the moment we placed an inquiry, and throughout the entire process. The items we selected were all flavorful and hit different parts of our palates during our tasting. We knew our guests from many backgrounds would enjoy the selections. It's a cliche that wedding food is usually ehh, but come wedding night, our guests all raved about how tasty everything was :) The gem lettuces salad, the spicy fusili pasta, garlic potatoes, roast chicken--yum, yum, and yum! When we had questions or encountered small hiccups, they were super fast to respond and work out what was needed. We changed the menu here and there---added a carving station for the NY strip loin and sushi to our cocktail hour, which they had a fabulous sushi company partner come in and amaze our guests. Oh my god. Fundamental just catered and managed the bar at our wedding this past weekend and absolutely knocked it out of the park! From the very first call, Cindy was extremely responsive, helpful in providing guidance and feedback and endlessly upbeat and supportive of our big day. Candidly, we were so blown away at our tasting by how delicious the food was (I think we had resigned ourselves to the fact that surely wedding catering couldn't be more than OK), and the most impressive thing was that the food tasted just as outstanding (if not better) on the wedding day itself! We found it very convenient that the catering team took care of our rentals as well as the food and staff! Fundamental events was a GOD SEND. We were having massive trouble with our previous catering team and had to let them go just weeks prior to our wedding. At the very last minute we found Fundamental Catering - they are usually booked and we got extremely lucky they were not for our date. They did everything from scheduling our tasting to finalizing the details in literal weeks. The food was delicious and people RAVED about the bao bun station especially! A huge, huge thanks to Cindy who was our main point person in making it all an insane success. Also they sent us home with packaged gooey chocolate chip cookies which are my FAVORITE and there was nothing more that could have ended our perfect night.
