Furai Chicken is the winner in our search for a new chicken spot since moving to Irvine! Albeit they were our first stop, but when you know, you know...right? The gentleman that took my girlfriend and I'd order was very friendly and informative, despite being very busy. Much appreciated. Juicy - if you take one thing from this review, let it be that. This place has the most delicious and juicy chicken. We order a half Soy Garlic and Half Original order of wings and the Rice Skewers. Pictures attached. Sorry for the poor quality photos, wasn't expecting to find such a gem that night The chicken wings, legs, etc. are not the small kind, they are much more traditional sized. I tend to stay away from that because I feel like there is a lot more gristle and inedible parts of the meat, NOT HERE. Furai must source chicken from a private resort, this chicken meat is juicy, almost gristle free and then treated and fried to perfection in the Furai kitchen. The rice skewers were equally awesome. I didn't know you get 4 pretty good sized ones on 1 skewer, so I order 3 skewers on accident...wish I would have gotten 5 after I tasted them haha. We will be back and telling our friends! Furai Chicken is a spot I didn't expect much from, but damn, they proved me wrong. This is located inside of Zion Market on the left side. The first time I came here, I got their original chicken wings with garlic jam and sweet and spicy sauce. I wasn't really a fan of the sweet and spicy, but the garlic jam I will dump on everything. It definitely gets too sweet after awhile, but it's worth it. Second time coming here and I got their half and half order with original whole chicken and kang jung chicken. Yo, if you're getting kang jung you better eat rice with it 'cause the flavor profile on this is wild. It's a lot of flavor and I wish I had rice to go with it. The kang jung has a sweet (but not too sweet) and a little bit of heat to it, with some pumpkin seeds, slices of rice cakes, and peppers. My mouth is watering just writing about it. Overall, the chicken is moist, the skin is crispy, garlic jam is my jam, and the kang jung makes my mouth water 10/10 would order it again. read more

It's been on my check list for a long while as it's not close to where we live. But the journey is worth it. I'm not really far, just being dramatic. Anyway, the frying method is the same as other fried chicken joints, nothing fancy there, It's the sauce that makes the chicken tasty. This place is super popular, so if you're planning to do groceries at Zion market (it's an Asian supermarket, where you could find most East Asian ingredients, if you fancy those) If you're planning to do groceries here, order up first before the grocery run as it takes almost 45mins to get your order, I'm not kidding, there's 2 or 3 people processing the orders for both take out and onsite orders. Better yet call and order take out, if you're NOT doing groceries. There is a default 20mins wait if the chicken is a fresh batch. This is so that they can cook the chicken properly, pour the sauce and bag it. Plan ahead, this is not fast food.. When we go here We always order the whole chicken and split the flavors. It's definitely worth the wait. You can't go wrong with the flavors though, if you don't like it spicy they have non spicy options. One last thing BEST EATEN FRESH! (But don't burn your tongue). Phenomenal!!!! I knew I was in for a treat when the owner and her talented cook handed me my order with a huge smile and said "enjoy" several times. The best fried chicken place in Irvine! My family and I LOVE getting their chicken. It always comes out so fresh and so crispy. The batter they use makes the crispy part nice and thin so it doesn't overbear the chicken. I recommend getting their wings! I usually ask for it to be plain and get sauces on the side (to provide variety for everyone). The best sauce is the garlic soy, especially if you're a garlic lover. Came here a while ago with my family and really enjoyed the fried chicken. We got the original whole chicken with a side of soy garlic and sweet & spicy. The batter is delicious and the chicken was very well fried. Both sauces were good, but my favorite was the sweet and spicy. It was a perfect match with the picked jalapeños and daikon they provide. I enjoyed the potato wedges in the box too. However, I do wish they gave more chicken. I find it hard to justify spending $30 for only 10 pieces of chicken and a couple pieces of potatoes. Additionally, if you do come here, I highly suggest ordering online ahead of time. We ordered in person at 8pm and the wait was still about 45 minutes. read more

Lives up to the hype. Great chicken wings. All flats. Family loves it. Hot and crispy with various option of sauces. We like to get ours plain and have sauces on the side. This allows the chicken to stay crispy until we are able to eat it at home and the family is able to have their choice of sauce. At times the place could get really busy and at one point I was told there was over an hour wait. I have learned to order ahead for pick up. At first I was a little iffy about the quality of the chicken since it's located inside Zion market. But .. it was soo delicious. Super crispy and seasoned perfectly. The lemon garlic sauce..( or the yellow sauce, forgot it's name) was so yummy with the KFC. Their side dishes are also delicious. I always ask for extra radish. I can eat half order by myself, so if you're sharing between two, I'd recommend getting full chicken. Or even 1.5 orders hehe. And great service too! One of the best Korean fried chicken places in OC! What I like about them is the consistency in their food - always fresh, crunchy and delicious chicken. We usually get their whole chicken with Kang Jung sauce. We love the original fried chicken too. Without any sauce, those chickens get devoured pretty quickly when they get home, Lol. They're closed pretty early, around 7:30 each night, so be sure to call in your orders at least 20 minutes before then. read more

Not sure what all the hype is about. It's just okay to me. Chicken without the sauce does not stand on it's own. Service was very good but wish the chicken was too. In the pic you can tell very little sauce was used, some pieces barely had any sauce on them, maybe a drop or two. At $14 for half a chicken it better be damn good. Highly recommend this place. We were trying to go to Baum Tea but it was raining and all indoor seating was taken there but on our way to Baum, we smelled the chicken and waffles so when we saw Baum was full we went to Faurai's Chicken & Waffles. Complaints: It is a little pricey and food does take a bit (but that could be that I hadn't eaten all day and it was 3pm) Good Things: It takes a bit bc they are making the chicken fresh to order so I definitely don't mind the wait in that case. It's pricey bc it's good quality. Chicken was perfect consistency and so were the waffles. Them together was the best. They gave lots of options for gourmet sauces. They even had great coleslaw and I don't even usually like coleslaw. Service was great the whole time. Very warm greetings and were great in getting us anything we needed. One of my fav spots for korean fried chicken. Located in Zion Market, it is a staple of the food court and my family and I can usually finish a whole chicken in one go. My favorites are the soy garlic and garlic jam sauces. We usually call about 20-30 minutes in advance and get some shopping done while there, always comes out hot and perfectly crunchy with pickled jalapenos and radish to go with. There are also potato wedges hidden in the boxes, so fun! I will say the quality has somewhat diminished over the years and the chicken seems less juicy now, but still a go to for a quick and easy dinner. I would definitely choose this over the bbq chicken in the plaza nearby. read more

I recommend the sweet and spicy as it goes great with the beer you can pick up in the grocery store. The texture of the chicken is nicely crunchy and stays crunchy even in a 20 min car ride. I have to say the portions are quite small, about 5-6 pieces but they recently added wedge fries to make up for it. It's almost a shame that Furai is only takeout, because the chicken deserves to be eaten immediately. If you're shameless like me, though, you'll find a bench outside of Zion Market and dig in. My friend and I ordered in person on a Saturday night, and the wait ended up being 35 minutes. There's enough to check out at the market to spend the wait time, and the food is well worth the wait. I was craving a different restaurant for Korean Fried Chicken and remembered this one came up in my search. It is located inside Zion Market - if you enter the store through the left doors and go past the prepared foods cooler on the left, it is the first business on the far left wall. Pricing is comparable to the other location I've been to. You can either order over the phone or order in person to take out. (Unlike some of the other KFC places in Korean markets, there is no food court area for you to sit in and enjoy the chicken.) I ordered in person a couple of hours before closing, getting a half order of their original Furai chicken with sweet and spicy sauce to go. The guy quoted that it would be done in 25-30 minutes. No problem - I decided to wander around the market to see what else was there. I walked around the aisles and visited the Paris Baguette before the time rolled around for my order. The guy asked me to give him a few more minutes while he packaged up my order and passed over another person's order. The others in the back were pretty busy - I sensed they got a ton of orders in, which tells me the chicken must be popular. The guy got my order together afterwards and thanked me. They leave their cardboard box containers open because the pieces are shaped oddly and they want to avoid making the outer soggy from being trapped in a box. (FYI if you open the plastic bag and see that, transport with caution as contents could go all over. They do package the sauce separately so you can dunk or pour at your own leisure.) The exterior is very crunchy and the chicken was moist. I probably got a lot of oddball pieces because some didn't have much meat on them, mostly breading. Their sauce is a bit sweeter than other places and a bit stickier, but it has a good balance of heat and sweetness. I'd come back here again if I wasn't feeling the other place I frequent. read more

Goddamn this place is good. It's been a long time since I've had Korean fried chicken, and this has to be one of the best examples around. We got a half size of the original Furai chicken, which was $13.98. If you're not eating fried chicken right away, I highly recommend popping it in the oven. After 10 minutes at 350 degrees, it came out ultra crispy and perfectly juicy. It reminds me of KFC but miles better. The batter is crispy and shatters with the first bite, but the experience isn't overly greasy at all. It comes with pickled radish and jalapenos, which is a nice touch. As much as I love rich homestyle sides, this is a refreshing way to ensure you don't feel mega bloated afterwards. The dipping sauce is also nice, but you could also go without it and not miss much. Since you get at least one included with your order, I recommend the smoked soy. We also got the garlic jam for an extra 50 cents, but this one was just ok for my taste. Take all my stars! read more

Furai Chicken used to be inside of Zion market and the wait was insane. Now that it has its own location, wait time has reduced drastically.
