Today's my sister's birthday and this has been the place we have gone to celebrate. We have celebrated here twice for her and will definitely be coming here again. The only downfall is that the parking lot gets filled and tight pretty quickly because there are several restaurants within this location. We have a party of about 10 people and surprisingly, we order several plates of various foods like hanpen (lightly breaded fish with cheese inside) 4pcs on a plate, salmon rice balls - 3pcs on a plate, chicken wings - 6pcs on a plate, 2 teriyaki Steak boxes, pork belly fried rice, and 1 Steak Dinner Box. The staff is friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. They also have the traditional Japanese sitting table. As for the flavor, it has this sweet and savory taste, which it's ok for me even though personally I prefer salty flavor wings, so this is not my favorite flavor of chicken wings. I would say this is a good place to go for last night snack if you're NOT too hungry or just want to eat some late night snack. Love Furaibo! We always get their yummy Teba Saki chicken wings (my personal fave). Also enjoy the Hanpen Cheese, kimchi fried rice, yakitori chicken skewers, and agedashi tofu. My friend introduced me to this restaurant and now my husband and I are regulars here for our date night. Of course, gotta love the pitchers of beer (extra fun for our date night - Thanks Uber!). The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so sometimes there is a wait (but, well worth it in my opinion). According to my friend it's very authentic Japanese and there's even a tatami room. How I have missed Furaibo, the one in Rowland Heights has closed down, so we had to come here. Glad the very first Furaibo is still close to me, there are so many Asian restaurants in this plaza, parking wasn't so easy on a Friday night. Menu seems a bit more extensive than the other one. We started off with a nice bottle of 720ml cold sake, a bit sweet but very yummy, two draft Asahi too. We are already somewhat familiar with the food here, so we basically ordered most of our favorites. The very good: Soft- shell crab, sizzling ribeye steak, chicken gizzard skewers, enoki mushrooms with scallops, special chicken wings spicy and very spicy. The spicy wings were particularly good, get the very spicy ones! The good: Shishamo fish, shoyu Saba fish, salmon green tea rice soup and rice ball with fish eggs. Salmon chazuke was one of the best, try it! The OK: Traditional Japanese dish fish cakes with cucumbers, spinach with fish flakes. Those items were very bland, didn't like them too much. I came here with an acquientance of mine when we were hungry, we both love Asian cuisine. It is quite costly but, that's only if you buy without thinking of sharing what you order. You would only come here to share a meal with an acquientance, everything from rice to their chicken wings that they are well known for is all to share with an acquientance. If you don't want to share, they have their dinner box special which has a little bit of everything for an excellent price! The waitress are nice and very well at their job, they came with water often enough that I rarely had if at all ask for refills. Their quick to bring your food to you and after finishing a meal your next meal is hot and ready for you, very quick to serve their delicious food to you. Overall a great A+ experience. I absolutely love this place. For an izakaya, it's affordable and the food is great quality. I tend to prefer this location over the Sawtelle one because the service is better here and prices slightly lower. I usually order the dinner box. It's about $15 for an entire bento box: pork katsu, tebasaki, salad, pickles veggies, oden, rice, and miso soup. There are other combination options as well, but this is my fave. It's usually enough to get both me and boyfriend full. The yakitori is great as well. We typically order the agedashi tofu to go with our dinner box. However, what I found out they have a lot of other items, including a two item lunch special for $8.95. Furaibo is in the Tozai Plaza on Redondo Beach Blvd & Western in Gardena. BTW, there are two more Furaibos: One in Sawtelle, and one in West Covina. I ordered the two item combo w/ tebasaki chicken wings and fried fish ($8.95). From memory, there are about 3 "A" items (chicken), and 8 "B" items incuding chicken katsu and tonkotsu. The lunch special include tsukemono, miso soup, salad and rice. First of all, the fish was OK. It was snapper, and the panko batter was crispy and not greasy: 3 Stars. Secondarily, the wings were good, but not great. I was expecting more flavor, heat & meat (I ordered spicy)! Unfortunately, they give you the skinny part of the wing here, but what do you expect for $8.95 including fish? Nonetheless, I was full afterwards, and I only ate some of the rice: 3 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, it is typical Japanese. This is a small place, with a few counter seats and a few tables. However, the space is used efficiently: 3 Stars. The service was OK. I came here with a friend for a little snack. We got two orders of their Teba-saki chicken wings, one spicy and one not, and an order of fried cartilage. I've had their chicken wings before and thought they were really good. This time I thought they were just ok, I wished they were a little bit more crispy. The fried cartilage was a little oily. Furaibo is one of the better known Japanese restaurants in Gardena likely because of 1) it's stellar location in Tozai Plaza (next to Guadalajara Tires http://www.yelp.com/biz/guadalajara-tires-gardena) and 2) their popular Tebasaki -chicken wings! I come here for an early dinner every few weeks and I always order the tebasaki bento which comes with a mix of everything including wings, rice, soup, cabbage salad, shrimp, picked veggies and root veggies in a sauce. It is a lot of food and all of it delicious. I can eat every single thing in that box! Some people might think the chicken is small and it is in size, but it is also gigantic in its crispy yummy flavors. I like how you expect it to be greasy, but it isn't and at first you think it is salty, but it is peppery. Their regular wings are actually very mild in terms of spice, but you can specify your heat level. I agree that service Ihere is a little slow, but I think the servers prefer to let you eat rather come by often and check on you. It might take while to get used to, but I have learned to like it and if you catch their eye or wave (like Todd M said) they'll come by! I have tried some of their other dishes like the meatballs and seabass, but the chicken wings are my fav. Decent place for chicken wings if you like very strong, salty flavor that is. Furaibo specializes in Tebasaki wings which I think is good BUT theyre a little too salty to my taste. I know Furaibo is in other cities but I probably have to say this location is seriously the most decent place out of all. Customer service is average. Actually, its below average for Japanese restaurants. I always expect really good service when I go to Japanese restaurants because they are just born with it. But this place is probably not one them. But then again. its Japanese restaurant but not really. Over the years, I see non-asians coming here more and with that service has also gone down. Besides the wings, I really like their Hanpen Cheese. I like anything fried. This falls in that category. Its like fishcake wrapped with seaweed which has melting cheese in between the fishcake. This whole thing is fried ans comes in 4 triangle pieces. I like it so much that I usually get 2 orders of them. Its a good place to get some small plate food because they have many variety to choose from. And of course, they have alcohol so you can always drink with your friends. The place is small with a handful of tables, bar seating area, and one large table. Ambiance is typical Japanese, but updates to the decor are needed. We had a party of three and we tried the following: Pitcher of Asahi - standard, but it had too much foam. Tebasaki Chicken Wings - nice crispy texture, lightly salted, but wings were on the smaller side. 4 stars, but recommend a larger order to fill your tummy. Chicken Yakitori - it was undercooked and after raising our concern, the server brought another properly cooked one. It was tender, but lacked flavor. Also, the temperature was more like room temperature. I thought these were cooked to order? 3 stars. Beef (skewer) - tender and flavorful, but like our chicken skewer, it wasn't hot enough. 3 stars. Scallop (skewer) - flavorful, but it was a bit too chewy. 3 stars. Mushroom (skewer) - juicy, earthy, and tender. The star skewer of the night. 5 stars. I had been here several times, but all in the preYelpazoic Era. Fu-raibo- is a utilitarian, basic Izakaya where small plates predominate since the point of an Izakaya is to eat small plates with Sake (sah keh), Bi-ru, or Sho-chu- or Japanese low alcohol "vodka". However, at the back of the extensive menu, there are combo dinners for those who are either fressers or don't want to have to think nor plan on what various small dishes to order. I picked their signature dish which is their Kara'age Tebasaki Chicken. Te = hand Saki = at the end or tip or what's up ahead. So don't expect to get the "drumstick" portion of the chicken wing. You will get the radial ulnar section which means you get the wing section with two thin bones. Glad I got the spicy version which wasn't too hot since I tried a friend's regular, and it was rather bland. Good thing there was an accompanying side of shredded raw cabbage to clear the palate. My impression is that the Tebasaki chicken is too over fried so the meat comes out dry & leathery. The more delicate flavours of the chicken are cooked out. This could be a good dish if it were given a more gentle hand and less cooking in the hot oil. Because of the over frying, I asked the waitress if it were possible to under fry the Kaki Fry or Panko covered fried oysters one minutes less than the standard frying time at Fu-raibo-. The waitress wasn't sure, but when the Panko breaded oysters came out a crunchy, light golden brown, I felt that the cooks had complied. There were three fried Kaki, and the oysters were extra, jumbo large, having the mineral sea smell & taste as well as freshness & sweetness. The underfrying made the flesh of the oysters soft, velvety, custard-like. Just for this I would go back to Fu-raibo-. The So-su or Japanese Worcheshire sauce was also different, being somewhat fruitier, milder, richer, with more Umami. The side of shredded raw cabbage, parsly, tomato was a good palate cleanser between bites of these wonderful oysters. I had the Calpico Chu-Hai. Calpico is a fermented yogurt based sweet drink probably inspired from the Indian beverage, "Lassi" which is also a yogurt based drink that is great to quench the spicy heat found in many curries. Chu- comes from the Japanese Sho-chu-. Hai is from the old cocktail term, Highball. So Calpico Chu- Hai is a yogurt flavoured highball whored up with Sho-chu-. It paired well with the Tebasaki, and well enough for the Kaki Fry although I made it double unKosher since oysters are not Kosher to begin with & adding milk to meat is another no-no. You may as well go to the far back and try your luck there. But, there should be spots. --FOOD-- The menu is full of Japanese food, both traditional and fusion. The portions are small, so you can definitely get several different plates. Between 2 or 3 people, you can share a plate at a time. For parties 4+, you should order 2 or more of the same dish so that everyone can try it. The food is served incredibly fresh. Everything came out steaming hot! The wings are bomb. for 5 people, we ordered 6 servings of wings. The wings are pretty small, but so flavorful. It has a subtly sweet flavor, and sprinkled with sesame seeds on top. Other food we ate were: +The eggplant dish is great. It has ground pork in the sauce. +The fried halibut is really good, too. Squeeze fresh lemon on top. +shiitake mushroom skewers have 3 per skewer, but the mushroom size is small. Chicken wings. Tebasaki...perfectly crunchy, juicy, and spicy (if you want it to be) little wings of umami, anyone could ask for. We live an hour away from this place (2 hours in traffic) and it is never a question, on do we want to go. Family members have based road-trips on being able to stop and have these wings, trust me, we have been trying to replicate these for years. They are so perfectly crispy and yet not dried out, you can stick the entire wing in your mouth and just pull off the meat all in one swoop, it's ingenious. I love all the heat levels, each one matching exactly what I expect. Small backstory: We lived in Nagoya when I was a kid for a couple of years. All of the gaijin's that worked for the company and lived in the same area would meet almost once a week at the local Furaibo. Two tatami rooms one for the adults and one for the kids, and we would have huge plates of these wings, bottles of soda and for the parents, bottles, and bottles and bottles of beer. I never ate anything but the wings in the Furaibo in Nagoya, and it wasn't until they opened the one in Gardena did I try the other outstanding dishes of the Izakya style food. Clams in sake broth, and the Age nasu (eggplant) are always a must. I know that along with the meal I get my sense-memory overload of my incredible time in Japan and that may add to it, the loveliness of this tebasaki is not to be denied and if I lived closer it would be a weekly thing. The service is friendly and pretty fast. But I am telling you I don't care if they were rude and slow and told me to go stuff myself, I would still come here because those wings man....last meal for me for sure. This place is loud and you can get in a frenzy of small dishes and tebasaki and never-ending beer bottles...I love it. Sooooooo why not 5 stars? Ok the only reason this spot does not get 5 stars from me is that the bathroom, it is worse than some of the truck stops I have been in. At least the ladies, it needs a COMPLETE overhaul. This was out of Furaibo's control though so we quickly finished our meal and left. Overall, the food was good and the tables were clean. The QR code that's supposed to link to the menu doesn't work but we were provided paper and reusable menus. There's a bottle of hand sanitizer on each table which is nice but their restrooms are also open and clean. Furaibo is more of an izakaya versus a restaurant. An izakaya is basically Japanese tapas. You typically order a number of small dishes to share and drink your beer or sake with your meal. They also offer a dinner combination plate at pretty reasonable prices when you compare it to Azuma, Matsui or Honda-ya. The service here is usually good from what I remember. On my most recent visit we had a fairly large group of 9 people. Like many restaurants, if you have a party larger then 6, you automatically get charged 18% gratuity. On our bill they decided not to do that since they said they were really busy so they know that they didn't deserve the 18% gratuity. I thought this was incredibly nice since I have never heard of another restaurant doing this even though the service might be poor. That was a very classy move on their part. Good job! Food -Tebasaki: This is probably their most popular dish by far. It's basically chicken wings in your choice of sauce. I personally just think that it's "okay". Nothing special, but you should at least give it a try one time. -Beef tataki: I wish the beef tataki had a little more flavor to it... You really have to dip it into the ponzu sauce and get some of the onions with it in order to bring out more flavor. I'm also used to having some fried garlic chips with my beef tataki. -Scallops and enoki mushrooms: I don't know why, but I assumed that this dish was going to be cold. It was the complete opposite and I almost burned my tongue with this dish. The flavor was lacking, but if you dip in in some shoyu or ponzu then it tastes a lot better. -Fried baby halibut: This was delicious and the presentation was very nice. Huge chunks of fried halibut meat that you dip into ponzu sauce. They also deep fry the whole fish carcass so you can literally eat the WHOLE fish! The bones become crunchy like a chip since it's deep fried. Highly recommend. -Tonkatsu: Perfectly crunchy, deep fried pork. One of the best tonkatsu that I've had. That means a lot since I'm Japanese... They somehow make it so crispy on the outside that you get such a nice crunch in each bite. Great dish! -Chicken karaage: DELICIOUS! The aioli that they serve with the karaage is just perfect for this dish. The kaarage is so flavorful and tender. A must try! I have been a regular here for many years, I actually used to go to the restaurant in the City of Industry on Colima, but it sadly closed. Since then, I have been coming here, to the original restaurant. Their hanpen cheese, tebasaki chicken wings, agedashi tofu and the salad are the usuals. Food is always excellent and well-made. Contained tebasaki wing, chicken katsu, fried shrimp, salad, edamame, miso soup, vegetable soup, and white rice. My fault for ordering mild and house, but tebasaki and salad were pretty plain. They gave a small katsu with sauce and small shrimp fried, shell on which were good. Vegetable soup had a potato, carrot, onion, and what I think was mushroom slices but it could have been pork. Service was so bad, the waitress is a Japanese older lady that taking our order and when we finished the order she said " that's it?!" with a rude tone. very shocking, we never has this kind of experiment in our life...She seem not liking us from the beginning maybe because we are not Japanese? we ordered 2 Tarzans and 1 chicken cutlet for us 4 people because my wife is not a big eater and she shared food with my kids. Similar to the Sawtelle location, this Furaibo has NO lines and plenty of parking! I would have to say that the LA location still tastes better BUT this South Bay location is still good enough and less hassle to eat here. I always get their chicken wings and it was super delicious! Beer and chicken. Can't go wrong on a Saturday night! Also tried couple other dishes and they were all satisfying. Just don't go for lunch because they have very limited choices. Go for dinner and the food is good.... Fried rice, fish, chicken wings etc. your order takes 10 minutes for some but not bad. The place is ok but more lights would help. read more

Located in the plaza with Tasty Pot & Honeymee, Furaibo is a fun izakaya place. I came in w two friends, ordered 6 plates (lol) of karrage chicken + wings, agedashi tofu, tofu salad, eggplant and lotus chips and ended up paying around ~$45. Both chickens were delicious!!!!! The wings spiciness is honestly scaled down. We got "spicy" but I didn't taste any of the spiciness. The tofu salad had very generous portions. I thought it was worth the $6 lol, and while the agedashi tofu only came with four pieces I really enjoyed it. As for the lotus chips, that was my only regret. They were dry and lol my friends and I were so starved of moistness we started dipping the chips into the mayo and agedashi soup hehe Overall I will be back! My ex coworker and I are regulars here, we only get the double teba (double order of chicken wings) lunch that comes with a LOT of little wings, rice miso soup and salad... we loooove the teba here it's like no other. It's fried but not battered and the flavor is just amaaazing! You can order from mild to spice y I don't think it's spicy though it seems like they just put more of the flavor maybe a rub, so spicy really is just saltier IMO. Don't get mild it means it has less flavor- it's NOT spicy trust me I'm a total wimp when it comes to spicy foods I can't handle any chili powder so just order the regular spicy not mild! And we always get the house dressing that is a creamy dressing that tastes like it's mayonnaise base with soy sauce and it's perfect with the cabbage salad. I tried the dinner for the first time, it's a great deal, if you get the rib eye steak and chicken teba combo or chicken katsu combo- then you can order a side of teba and get even more but their steak was SO delicious with a Japanese steak sauce that's soy sauce base with caramelized onions... fantastic combo with the teba I'm definitely coming more at night knowing I can get a steak here!!!! It comes in a bento box with rice soup and Japanese pickled veggies. This has been one of our favorite spots forever and I haven't been going as much now that I work from home and my friend has retired :( I miss my lunches with my workers!!! I hope to go back soon with my retired friend she can come meet me for dinner since working from home now I'm too far away to come down for lunch... not enough time now. Came here for the first time for dinner meeting a friend. We ordered family style and it was delicious. I usually shy away from Japanese establishments at night since I'm not bi-lingual plus I feel intimidated by the dishes and ordering. We enjoyed our meal and got to try a number of different dishes, so I recommend going with another foodie. One of my faves which stood out for me was the mushroom. It was very hearty and filling. My husband and I have been going to Furaibo for years. It's his comfort food from childhood. Simple dishes but very good food. Our usual is the pork Katsu, fish katsu, and the spinach bacon. We also love their servers. Very friendly ladies. Highly recommend the restaurant read more
