Growing up in Torrance when I was young, coming to this place was a major treat for me. Due to so many eateries out there, I forgot how good this place was until I started coming back here again. I tried most of their small dishes here but my favorite is their famous Tebasaki wings. The Tebasaki wings are pretty small, but it has bursting flavors which is major treat for late night snack. I usually order their "extra spicy" flavor but it's not spicy. The extra spicy will be their version of extra white peppers which is more flavor to my favorite wings. Due to many other restaurants in the plaza, the parking here is absolutely horrendous. I would avoid peak hours.. But the terrible parking is worth visiting best Japanese wings in town! I've been going to Furaibo for years and was sad that they closed down Rowland Heights location. We try to go to other locations when we are in the area. We visited this place last Sunday to celebrate Father's day. There were 9 of us and server sat us in tatami room. We were a bit cram since we shared it with another group of 4. At this point, we didn't care, we just wanted to eat. Our food didn't come out all the same time. This would have been okay if it was at least one after another, but the time in between dishes took forever. I was also disappointed that they had ran out of whole fried fish. Our server was nice. She was a bit busy though so it took forever to get her attention including getting the check. We had to remind her a few times. Overall, food was still as good as I remember. I was freaking HANGRY and my boyfriend took me here to appease my HANGER. Walked in and was not greeted or acknowledged for a good 5-7 minutes. We wrote our name on the sign in sheet and waited untill finally someone acknowledged us and cleaned off a table to seat us. They were very nice, but busy. Table next to us were obnoxiously loud and I think the waitress noticed and offered to move us to another table. So I really appreciate that. Food was good! Their tebasaki wings are everything, maaaaan. I had their wings a few years back, and just can't forget about them. Spicy, peppery, and perfectly fried! Furaibo's menu is extensive, practically overwhelming, but just start with a couple orders of their wings and you can't go wrong. Our party of four also ordered the tori negima (chicken skewers), aka karrage (grilled squid), hanpen cheese (fried cheese), and the fried rice. Everything was pretty good, but nothing could outshine the wings. We were seated promptly since we beat the late night crowd. Our food came out relatively quickly. My stand-out favorite was obviously the wings, but I also really enjoyed the aka karrage, which was so soft and had a nice lemon-y flavor. I'm also a fan of the hanpen cheese. I mean, how can you go wrong with fried cheese? The fried rice tasted just like Mama Kim's. I was afraid that the fried rice was going to be overly greasy, but it wasn't! I found Furaibo to be alright, nothing too special. Their pitchers of Asahi beers are around ~15. We tried their popular dish, which was the tebasaki chicken wings. It was ok. The chicken wings barely had any meat on the bones. The flavoring was better than ok, but not spectacular. I wish I could give them 0 stars for the service we received. My SO called originally to place an order but the person on the other end of the phone was quite rude, so I called and ordered in Japanese on my phone. After ordering they called my SO's phone saying that they wouldn't be able to fulfill our order and we thought okay,,, if they didn't call my phone we'd be okay.. but guess what, upon arriving to the restaurant they told me that both our orders were cancelled! Why would they take my number and not call me to cancel my order? Why did they call only my SO's phone?? Furaibo serves some bomb Japanese style wings. I first had Furaibo approximately 3 years ago in their Sawtelle location. Those wings left a lasting impression on me, especially paired with some Kirin on draft. On my recent LA trip, my girlfriend, her brother and uncle opted to stop by the Gardena location to avoid the crowds in Sawtelle. We were seated promptly and ordered 3 orders of the Tebasaki (wings), Tori Negima (chicken leg skewers), Ika Karrage (squid), and Hanpen Cheese (fried cheese). To me Furaibo mostly serves bar type food that is meant to be shared with the whole table. Due to the relative few people dining in at the establishment when I visited, the food came out pretty quickly. Before I get started with my review, my favorite dish here is still definitely the Tebasaki. The Tebasaki are fried perfectly and the sauce they use is perfect. It's slightly spicy and tangy. My second favorite will have to be the Ika Karrage- this dish came out with a good amount of squid and was seasoned with a lot of citrusy flavors. The Hanpen Cheese was a unique take on fish cakes with cheese in the middle. I was also a fan of this since it was very unique. My least favorite dish was the Tori Negima, the skewers were seasoned well and the chicken was moist but it didn't possess the certain bang all the other dishes had. They were a bit boring to me, but I'm sure others would enjoy them more than me. Overall, I throughly enjoyed all the items I had at this establishment. If you stop by, a must have are the Tebasaki wings. Their menu is pretty extensive so I'm sure you will be able to find something for even the pickiest eater. read more

It was at Furaibo that I finally gave in and admitted that dark meat does taste better than white meat when it comes to fried chicken. Having tried the Jane (breast) and finally trying the Chita (leg & thigh), I was convinced the Chita is where it's at! Man was I missing out! I've also come to learn that "extra spicy" here is really not all that spicy. It just means you'll get extra white pepper sprinkled on the chicken, which is just more flavor, so I'm all game--Make it extra spicy! I enjoy the dinner boxes because you get a little bit of everything--salad, pickles, soup, tonkatsu, fried shrimp and your choice of meat. They get busy during peak hours so expect a wait if you're coming with a large party. It's usually no more than a 15-20 minute wait so no biggie. Also, they won't seat you until everyone in your party has arrived. Food for thought: The parking lot, shared with several other businesses in the plaza, is absolutely horrendous! If you don't already have dings on your car doors, expect to find one when you leave. The spaces are tiny and crammed together so it's inevitable that something or someone will hit/touch your car when they're getting out of their car or walking by. The meat was more fat on some pieces than meat. This place is so known for its Teba (chicken wings), I know they only put it with white pepper, but my friends and I are calling this place as a "chicken made with crack" cause it's so addictive. Their lunch menu ranges from like $6.95 to like around $9.85, which is not bad cause you got tsukemono, miso soup, rice, and choice of your meat/fish. I usually ordered double teba which comes with 20 chicken wings and it's $7.95 (plus tax and tips). I love coming here for lunch, but it's a bit far from my work, so usually comes here on Fridays, when the work isn't so hectic. I've been here once before, and never felt the urge to come back, because well there's just too many pub style/izakaya restaurants in this area that are way better. We ordered the regular teba-saki chicken wings that everyone raves about, yakitori set, buta kimchi, ume ochazuke, yaki onigiri, spinach bacon and pickled veggies. We also ordered a large bottle of Asahi beer for that "Ahhhh" feeling. So the food all arrives pretty quickly. We dig into the wings only to be underwhelmed by the flavor again. I never thought they were the best wings ever the first time, and this second time confirmed it for me. They are good in comparison to their other dishes, but nothing to rave about in the overall realm of chicken wings. The buta kimchi was dry, and I've definitely had much better. The ume ochazuke wasn't bad, and they gave a lot of ume which was nice. Yaki onigiri with miso sauce was not bad either with lots of flavor. The spinach bacon was actually rather delicious, probably the best dish of the night. The pickled veggies were standard, and of course an acquired taste since not everyone likes pickled stuff. Now, I'm saving the worst for last. The yakitori set. Now, for sure shinsengumi yakitori is much better times a hundred. These skewered meats were flavorless and a bit tough. But the main thing that made this experience a 2 star rather than the 3 it would've gotten was the longest piece of hair that was inside the ground chicken yakitori (tsukune). OMG! It was so disgusting. Apparently they don't use hair nets when preparing food. They did apologize and give us a small discount, but still YUCK! I really couldn't eat anymore after that. Even if this grotesque incident didn't happen, I still wouldn't come back if I wanted pub style/izakaya food. The prices aren't bad, but the quality and flavor of the food just isn't worth it. I did not know this was kind of izakaya style. DOWN! Greeted right away, as well as seated. Our waitress..was freakin' hilarious. She made my first experience fun. They have chu-hi drinks which are basically shochu alchy mixed with fruity drinks. When my friend's and I were deciding, she told us, "SO THIS ISN'T BOBA OKAY GUYS!" We all looked at eachother like..wtf..we know, it's alcohol? But, we were laughing cause it was funny. Why is it that service here can't be as good as their food? There's two servers that has been working there for at least 10 years...one of them is an absolute sweetie and is super nice and the other one is just awfully rude and mean. Discovered and loved to come back to this place. We went here at night when everything else was pretty much closed on the plaza. The first thing you see on the menu is their signature dish which is fried chicken and duck which is dressed in a flavorful golden sauce. You can also pick the level from sweet to extra spicy. I got the tarzan (5.95) style half chicken and it was cooked to a delicious crisp. The (3.50)teba shio yakitori skewer took a little longer to cook and it was average. I also ordered mushroo butter which is sauteed mushrooms in garlic sauce for 3.95 but it wasn't really worth it because the portions were small. Went to this place with two buddies. I was told their wings are amazing and delicious. So I tried the wing order. The regular isn't that spicy and the spicy isn't spicy. Which was fine.. My first time at Furaibo in Gardena, I've been to the Sawtelle location a couple of times. Not much difference, maybe just more older people instead of young people because of the area. Both are kinda dingy feeling to me. Anyway, we were pretty hungry, had chicken wings, mackerel, 2 orders of fried rice (yes, the fried rice is that good), butter asparagus, and fried halibut. We wanted to order 2 types of fish, but the cod wasn't available. The waitress suggested the karei karaage (fried halibut), I noticed it's the most expensive fish, but decided to try it anyway. I really must be missing something! My friend and I are having a mini debate over the best chicken wings. I say it's KFC (Korean fried chicken...specifically BBQ) while my friend says Furaibo. Furaibo apparently is known for their deep fried chicken. It's a small restaurant but they have places at the counter, small tables and a tatami room. We went for lunch (dinner would probably be better) and we ordered the lunch special for a double wing order ($6.95). It comes with miso soup, pickled salad, rice, regular salad and two orders of wings (15-16 total). I ordered mine extra spicy. At first viewing, I thought I'd really enjoy them. They are deep fried (they look like they're broasted) and have a slight dry rub on them. I am sad to say that I was disappointed. Some wings are small, others large. Some are so overly fried that the meat is really dry and hard to chew at times. And even though I ordered "extra spicy," they were nothing close to spicy. They seemed to just lack in flavor overall. Were the wings inedible? No. Did you get a ton of food for the price? Yes. Do they serve the best chicken wings? Sorry to say - not even close. I'd be willing to come back again and try more things (I only ate wings for our comparison). Dinner looks more promising with more options. Okay, wait, I take that back.. the side dish with the potato and bacon was not salty and neither was the breaded chicken (almost like a cutlet?), but all the side dishes that came with the bento box were meh. I ordered the ribeye bento for $19.99, asked for medium and it was basically well-cooked, with not a great sear. The ponzu sauce they gave me to dip with it was salty. The bbq sauce they gave for the chicken cutlet was throwing me off, why is there a bbq sauce at a japanese place? Meh. The only things I did enjoy was the salad and the super fried shrimp that I could eat whole, everything else was lacking. I might have eaten here 50 times when I still lived in the South Bay. It has been years since the last time and I was looking forward to as good meal. I ordered a steak dinner box. Medium rare. I only need to order two dishes here. The teba saki wings and karei karaage. And then there's the nasu miso, the nasu soboro, and yakitori galore!! OK, that's more than 2, but if you d not know what to order, order those 2. The best tasting chicken wings are from Japan?! Crazy right? But honestly the teba saki wings are the winners here. You can order the bigger pieces like the breast, leg, thigh, but all the flavor are in the wings. read more

Catering to mainly Japanese businessmen, Fu Rai Bo has gained quite a following both among Japanese and non-Japanese alike. This is the first U.S. location. With over 50 locations in Japan, if what I remember the owner telling me, this is a simple Izakaya restaurant. It is very casual and is more like a tapas type of restaurant where beer and sake flow freely and the food is sort of secondary. Fu Rai Bo is known for their chicken wings and rightly so. They are crispy, sweet and salty all at the same time. If you want it hotter just order it extra spicy; although many people still feel its not spicy enough.
