He had many excuses and then never picked up the phone. Don't hire him.

This gentleman is a great plumber. But, more than that, he's a really good person. I would highly…read morerecommend him to anyone in need of a professional to handle any plumbing-related problem or project. I had a cable installer come to my house today at around 4:30pm. He went down into the basement to check some wiring and, when he came back up at around 4:45, he told me that there was water leaking down into the basement from my first-floor bathroom. I literally moved into this house yesterday, and it's my first house (I've been an apartment dweller my whole adult life), so I was freaked out and rather panicked about it because, for the first time, I couldn't simply call maintenance. This gentleman told me that he was finishing up a job but that he could come over after he was done. He arrived at 6:14, which is technically very much "after hours". He messed around with the toilet a bit and discovered that the toilet tank was leaking at the tank bolts. He said he just needed to tighten them up. But then they wouldn't come off and he had to cut them off, which took a while. Then he installed new tank bolts, complete with brand new washers, solving the problem completely. This man could have made up anything and I would have believed it in the worried state I was in. He could have talked me into a brand new toilet if he wanted to, he could have replaced things that didn't need replacing, he could have taken his sweet time about what he did do in order to pad the bill - but he did none of that! He was done with the project in about a half hour, start to finish. And his bill was only $125. For an emergency call after hours that is incredibly low. But this guy was clearly not looking to rip anybody off, but rather to make repeat customers out of us - which he definitely did! In fact, I only had about $90 in cash on me, but instead of making me use a credit card or write a check, he gladly just waited about 15 minutes for my wife to come home and then she gave him the remaining $30. And during that 15 minutes he told me all about the best places in town to get takeout, the best pizza place, the best Chinese food place, the best burger place, etc. And as someone who just moved to town, that information was truly appreciated. We plan to install a garbage disposal, replace our dishwasher, upgrade our toilets, install a gas clothes-dryer, and possibly get a new fridge with an icemaker and water in the door, all within the next 4-6 months, and we will definitely be calling this man for each of those projects!!

Upstairs I went to find our guest bath toilet leaking water all over the tiled floor!! A call to G&C and Chris was there within 2 hours. He gave me multiple options and priced them out and I chose to have the entire toilet replaced by them. They were able to come the next business day and do it. I was even running 10 min behind and came home to find them parked in the driveway waiting! Talk about accurate service window estimates!! They replaced the toilet and did great work cleaning up, as well. They even wore shoe covers every time they left and reentered my home. Chris & Chris went above and beyond!!! Highly recommend!!

G&C Plumbing's pricing is significantly higher than expected for the work performed. I scheduled an…read moreappointment to replace a kitchen faucet and three shut-off valves; however, I was informed that an estimate could not be provided without an on-site visit. A $99 service call fee was disclosed in advance. Despite being a relatively simple job, the total cost exceeded $1,900. After researching the cost of the faucet from their local supplier, I discovered that the faucet retailed for $280, yet I was charged $1,142 for the faucet and installation. Replacing three shut-off valves was billed at $673. In total, an estimated $450 in parts resulted in $1,350 in labor for what was less than a 3-hour job. I reached out to management to better understand the significant upcharge and was told the pricing reflects a two-year company warranty. That explanation raised more questions, given the faucet manufacturer already provides a lifetime warranty on parts and finishes for residential users, covering defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns their home. I was also told the shut-off valves were not expected to fail within their two-year warranty. The remaining justification was that G&C hires experienced plumbers who provide a professional and courteous customer experience. Is this not what a consumer should expect?! Then I was informed that G&C provides a complete benefit package for their employees and that plumbers are just expensive. Overall, while the work was completed, the pricing felt significantly out of line with actual cost of parts, scope, and duration of the job.

I trusted Victory to sell and install what they called at the time a state of the art system 9…read moreyears ago. They installed a Navien high efficiency combi boiler (240-NCB) for $10,000. They touted that it would save me a lot of money. I added Victory's maintenance plan per their recommendation so that it could be properly maintained annually to ensure good operation for years to come. After only one year of service, I had the first repair to the system - on the coldest day of winter. This was fortunately covered under warranty. However, year after year, this thing required repair after repair including 2 domestic hot water heat exchangers, a 3 way switch, a couple of circulators and more! It ran me a couple of thousand in repairs over the years. Each time I asked why I was having so many issues, they told me they don't understand why this is happening. Finally, this year I had my annual maintenance performed as I do every year, and this time the service guy calls me down and shows me that the system is leaking carbon monoxide and gas! He proceeds to condemn the system. I told him the heat exchanger is still under warranty and the system is only 9 years old! He said, the system is dead and told me they typically only last 8-10 years!!! He refused to troubleshoot further. He simply unplugged it. He asked me if I ever had the system flushed. I asked him if they had been doing that as part of their annual maintenance. He said, we don't do that. I asked him, is it supposed to be fiushed? He said absolutely! I asked why it was not done as part of my maintenance. He told me that it would be extra. Yet it was never offered to me and therefore I assumed that all the necessarily maintenance was being performed as part of my maintenance plan. He then handed me the phone and there was a salesman on the line trying to sell me a new system! I told him that since I had heat pumps recently installed for AC that I would use it to heat my house as well. He proceeded to tell me that they are unreliable and will definitely break down. This is a very different story from what the Mass Save folks told me. I then asked him if he could just install a hot water heater for me as I no longer had hot water. He told me my chimney could not support a hot water heater - which is interesting as it used to vent my old furnace. I later got another plumber in who had no issue installing a hot water heater for me. All this to say that not only did Victory sell me a horrible system, they refused to try to fix it or work with the vendor to replace it. Instead they unplugged my system, leaving me with no heat or hot water and took the opportunity to try to sell me a new system with the same technology which would have set me up for more hassles and financial loss. Steer clear of this company!! They have no ethics and only care about their bottom line.

Another HVAC contractor suggested I call Victory after he determined that my problem was beyond his capabilities. The Victory representative I spoke with told me, at 830 on a Friday morning, that the 1st available appointment was on Tuesday. I explained that I currently had no heat. She replied that all the earlier scheduled appointments were reserved for "contract customers." If she'd made an exception to this short-sighted scheduling "policy," I might have become a customer. Instead, I told her that it was unacceptable and that I wouldn't be calling again.
