I never write reviews. But I am SO disappointed by my meal tonight that I feel compelled to write a review. Phantom Gourmet, WTF?!? The service was fine. Great outdoor atmosphere. Clean bathroom. The food was terrible. My Carne G looked like dog food. Likely it did taste better than it looked but did lack flavor. The meal came with rice and beans, which at the very least needed salt. I did not finish the meal and didn't take "leftovers" home (which I ALWAYS do) as it wasn't worth eating again, ever. I did eat more of it at the restaurant than I would have, had I not been SO hungry. Seriously, the worst meal I've had in a very long time. read more

Wife and husband bring downtown Haverhill interesting dishes with a southern flare. I've gotten takeout a few times and fall more in love each time with their lightly battered fried chicken. I had a simply wretched experience at this place. I ordered the $29.00 Ribeye medium rare. This is a place that bills itself as "Texan" so I'm thinking I'm going to get a thick, fatty, marbled, beautiful cut of steak with a pink center. Couldn't have been more wrong. Out comes an overcooked, thin, medium cooked piece of steak that looks like a shoulder cut. I sent it back and the owner comes over and tells me that the cut is indeed a Ribeye and I'm mistaken. Are you kidding me??? That's not a Ribeye, bro. Get a clue, you own a Texan restaurant. Go meet a butcher, talk to them about what a Ribeye steak is and how to cook it medium rare before you put it on your menu. And if this steak robbery wasn't bad enough their bartender proceeds to give me the stinkeye and tells me never to come back in a threatening manner. Total lowlife establishment that I would not be caught dead in. read more

Came across this place by chance, and so happy we did! Host was very cheerful, sat my husband and I right away. Very classy interior, lit with string lights, which gave it great ambiance. Waitress was super friendly and very attentive. Menu was not extensive, but there were still plenty of choices, even for those who might be vegetarian or gluten free. We started with chips and salsa. Salsa was not super hot but had a great smoky flavor. Chips were salted just right and had a touch of sweetness to them. My husband had the shrimp tacos in lettuce wraps as an entree, very fresh. I had the chopped bbq chicken sandwich which was excellent. The bbq flavor was perfect, and the bun was buttered and toasted. I got the jicama slaw on the side which was also quite tasty. Had the sangria special, also delicious. Loved the food, the vibe, and service, we will certainly be back. read more

A great new edition to the Haverhill restaurant scene. The menu has a lot of great options and not that we needed it, but one side is all gluten feee options as well. They start you with mini corn muffins that were so light and fluffy. The brisket was so tender u could cut it with a fork and the flavor was amazing. Chicken fried steak was the best I've had and the collard greens were so fabulous I'm still craving them. As full as we both were we ordered the pecan pie and not a morsel was left. Great drink selection and service was impeccable. Don't pass them by!!! read more

Nice space, outdoor seating as well. Service was friendly and spot on. Food is legit. I had the corpus crispy sandwich, absolutely delicious. The size was actually too big, I finished it but I was hurting. I heard they sometimes have brisket on the dinner menu. The owners are probably two of the best people you'll ever meet. They're down-to-earth, easy-going and just overall kind. The ambiance at G's is warm and cozy and the staff is so welcoming. I've tried quite a few of the menu items, from the salsa to the shrimp lettuce tacos to the pecan pie, and have loved them all. The Blue Bonnet and the Barton Springs drinks are delicious and refreshing. They're opening for brunch soon and I can't wait to try it out! Highly recommend this restaurant. To start: very welcoming. It was a full house and the service was excellent. Cam our server customer service skills and attention to our table was excellent. I had the house BBQ , really authentic Texas style. Yum, yum, yummy! Ribs and smoked sausage! The portions were great and was happy I have the rest for lunch today. Do Not Hesitate going. Not impressed at all. Ate here last night and the place was near empty. When we arrived the owners were both at the hostess stand. Both looked at us and walked away without uttering a word! Waitress then cam over and sat us. A welcome of some sort would have meant something, doesn't take a lot to say Hello and Welcome! Servers was average, made it a big deal when we asked for no peppers, told us it is pre-made and could not do it. Then came back and said it was possible to take out the peppers, but don't expect it all the time...It is OK we will not be back. I know it is hard times now with COvID, but why the to go boxes for your meals? Buthcs, Kruegers and all the other places in Haverhill use plates. If I knew this in advance I would have go elsewhere. Not into eating a $30 steak in a to go box. I opted for a salad and my daughter got the vegetable fajita, just horrible. We left the fajita near full and server never questioned why. Are entire meal the owner sat at the hostess stand talking to someone, never once came by and asked about our meals. My whole goal of going there was getting gift cards but after eating there decided against it. read more

Went earlier tonight, and let me say, I was so happy with it! The service was amazing! Our waiter was extremely friendly and was really good checking in on us often. I live downtown Haverhill.. since this place opened everyone I know said the quality of food was bad "don't waist your time going there".. service was bad and very over priced.. Went to G's for the 1st time Wed evening with a buddy. I had the chicken fried steak, he had the fish tacos. Chicken fried steak was as good as any I'd had in Texas, very reasonably prices and I had enough leftovers for 2 more meals. The fish tacos got a great review as well. Service was spot on and friendly. Owner sat us and inquired on our experience on the way out. No issues or comments on my friend's seeing eye dog. Only slip up was forgetting to add (or bill!) for several sides requested as take out, but a quick call to restaurant straightened everything out: now we need to return soon to get the comped sides promised! Next time I'm going for the shrimp "taco" on lettuce leaves: that sounds great! read more

Tried this place for the first time Friday evening. Called and made a reservation . Food and service was great! . We chose to sit inside although it was a beautiful night. We just don't like bugs attacking us and our food . I tried a Mexican martini . I had the blackened white fish for my entree and my husband had the corpus crispy sandwich . Food was excellent and we will be back . The only thing I didn't like was the take out style serving. But everyone is trying to adapt during this pandemic. read more

We have had many friends recommend G's and after seeing the Phantom Gourmet last Sunday it was the last push needed and we finally had dinner here. So very glad we did. Yummy margaritas, fresh Tuna Ceviche, Shrimp Salad tacos with the perfect amount of spice and Braised Beef that got the taste buds going made our night. Stopped in for dinner for the first time tonight. We know Matt from Kreugers. Great space although limited because of covid. I love how they serve picnic style in "to-go" containers. I had the blackened white fish with polenta and planned to take some home - didn't happen. The grits were so good - smooth and very cheesy. Fish was cooked great. My husband had the brisket and although he had trouble eating it all, he persevered. The bbq sauce was excellent, mac and cheese was cheesy and tasty. This restaurant is terrible I ordered food and they gave me the wrong item the waitresses and waiters are awful I heard them talking about me behind my back when I went to the bathroom the woman boss was very rude to me when I was asking for a new plate since they screwed it up. We wanted to like this place. Its very cute inside. The style of food is something different for the area. We were seated right away at a high top by the window. The waitress came and asked if we would like any drinks but I was only having water and my husband had soda. She took our order and the food came out on time. The ceviche appetizer was amazing! My husband really enjoyed his local burger. I had fish tacos that were inedible. The blackened fish was so spicy that I could not eat it. The waitress came back and asked if we needed anything and I said I needed more water. 10 min go by and she hasnt come back. The owner walked by and looked at my empty glass and never did anything about it. I had nothing to drink with my meal. 10 more min, still nothing. She returns and my husband says he needed more soda and brings it back for him, but still no water. In the meantime she was blabbing to the customers behind us forever. My husband complained to the owner and he asked who our waitress was. I thought he'd know since he was hostessing. He figured it out and tried to right it by giving us free dessert but I was already bummed out and wanted out. It was a birthday dinner for me and I never get out because I have a 2 and 4 year old. I plan to give it some more time and check back. It has a lot of potential. The restaurant was cute, but very noticeably loud. The owner and waitress were very nice, but it seemed that staff had their hands full. Maybe they were down a staff member? I noticed a group come in for a few, and then head out after not being greeted by anyone, as the hostess was filling many roles. Prior to being greeted, we thought about leaving as well. Staff was hustling, but it just didn't seem that they could meet all needs that night. The food was tasty, though my thoughts were that the menu was fairly limited. The ceviche is highly recommended. That was a great portion and delicious. We did have one major issue with one of our meals. It was greatly missing the beef. Upon seeing the plate, we immediately noticed this. It was brought to the attention of staff, and thankfully fixed right away. My suggestion would be to portion out items or to have an expeditor or food runner check all items that are leaving the kitchen.
