It felt like a burden on my teeth on each bite. The Special Pocha sauce was amazing. It's just too bad it covered glass fried chicken. Would've been a 0/5 if it wasn't for the sauce. 3/5 Pocha Colada Delicious. Lacks alcohol but the flavor of the milk soda and soju was delightful. SERVICE: No complaints, the waitress was attentive. EXPERIENCE: I've been to South Korea twice. It definitely looked like a nice little local Korean spot but it didn't FEEL like a Korean spot. The music and sound system was severely lackluster for a Saturday night. Ambience non-existent. RECOMMEND? Hard No. As of right now I would never recommend this location to a friend. However, I will absolutely recommend the Gabose Restaurant 50 feet away. Korean BBQ is delicious there although they should play more Korean music there (not TOP 40 US radio). read more

I just recently went here since covid started and I missed it so much! This is still one of my favorite places to frequent with my friends. They always play good music and it's such a fun atmosphere. I also tried some new food which included the spicy pork belly and kimchi tots. I think the kimchi tots could have had more kimchi on them but they were still good. Spicy pork belly is one of my favorite dishes and I finally ordered it here. It was cooked really well and had a good amount of spice to it but it wasn't overwhelming. I really suggest trying this place out of you haven't already! It is a great place to have fun with some friends and have some great food and drinks at the same time. read more

Went to Gabose Pocha late on a Friday night. Arrived around 11:45 and the bar side had about half the tables full. There were some Asian patrons doing karaoke at the bar. My first impression is this would probably be a cool spot for happy hour. Our server was quick to take our order and explain every thing we had questions about on the menu. He made some great suggestions based on our pallets. To start I ordered a draft, Pops Porter from Wynwood brewery. I was happy that they serve local craft beer, even if the the selection was limited. We ordered a kimichi rice dish, a side of ramen, a spicy pork belly ramen soup and grilled squid. All were quite good. The highlight of dinner was the ramen soup which had a miso base I think. It was super delicious. Also, the sauces for the squid which I could have eaten by the spoonful by themselves. The only criticism is in the timing of the food and in the order it came. It took a good while for the food to come out and when it did: The side of Ramen came out by itself, followed maybe 4 minutes later by the rice. 10 minutes after that the soup came out and then maybe another 5 after that for the squid. I may be exaggerating the times slightly, but when you have the late night munchies, minutes feel like hours. Lastly, they close at 2am, but last call for food was 1am. This place is pretty cool. I had never had Korean food before so this was a nice introduction. A couple friends and I ordered a few dishes to share. My favorite was the spicy ramen. It has a real kick to it! We didn't order any meat but enjoyed all the tofu we ate instead. I'd love to return to try some of the meat dishes, including the chicken in a bag which I hear is great. It's not close to where I live but next time I'm in the area I'd definitely return. The vibe of the restaurant is great, and the music mix is superb. We arrived around 830 or so and got a table right away. It seemed to get busier the later into the night and I can definitely see why. This place earns every one of these 5 stars twice over. When I come here I drink amazing drinks. I eat incredibly savory, unique food. I get caught up in the happy, party atmosphere and it makes me feel like the world is a wonderful place. This is the perfect place to have fun after and event, concert, or hard day at work. It's a great place for a party with a large trestle table in the main room and a separate party room that can be reserved. On weekends there's even karaoke to entertain you. It's unique. This is the kind of place where you share food. You don't have to, but it lends itself to it because the food is an experience. Most of it is spicy. Two of our favorite dishes are so spicy that we break out in sweat. My favorite dish, Buldak, is spicy like fire, cut up boneless chicken smothered in hot peppers, cheese and a savory sauce. They balance the spiciness with intense flavor so that it's not just hot for hot's sake. Just talking about it makes me want to run over there and order it or maybe it's my endorphins clamoring for escape in that post-spicy glow. The menu is large, varied and diverse. Even someone not adventurous in their food preferences can find something to eat here. This is my go-to spot for cocktails. My newest obsession there is the Sparkling Jelly soju, it's what you get if soju had a love triangle baby with champagne and aloe juice. I could have ordered a pitcher of sparking jelly soju and polished it off myself. The half watermelon soju punch is also incredibly good and something to share with the table. Okay! So, I was a bit skeptic about going here because I'm not used to Korean cuisine. We did the BBQ the 1st time and that was amazing. But the second time is what did it for me. What was most interesting is the fact that I could veganize all the menus because everything was made fresh, just had to take out the meat and add veggies. This is one of our go-to late night spots. It might be THE late night spot for us. Gabose Pocha is a Korean restaurant and bar with a twist - they focus on street food/comfort food, rather than the more traditional Korean fare you will find elsewhere. The atmosphere reflects that, it really does have a festive, outdoorsy feel. One of our favorite dishes is the Buldak, which roughly translates as 'fire chicken' according to the internet. It's tender bits of chicken, smothered in cheese and spicy hot bbq sauce and served in a smoking hot skillet. Wash it down with Soju! Kara likes the apple, I'm just as partial to regular soju. It pairs well with the firey buldak, so there you have it. The menu is packed with intriguing options, ranging from ramen nachos to seafood to short ribs, with many interesting stops in between. There is also usually a long list of specials. We're still working our way through the options, I'll be sure to add any new favorites to this review. On our latest visit we tried a new dish on the advice of our server, the Padak chicken... It really is a no-brainer, crispy and flavorful Korean Fried Chicken bits covered in a green onion salad... I am so thrilled this place has opened. I've been going to Gabose since I was in middle school and always loved the food. When I heard Fred and Susan opened up a Korean Street food style restaurant next door, I had to try it out! I wasn't disappointed. The environment is very casual and reminds you of sitting in your friends backyard for some drinks and small bites. Our table got a Pancake appetizer to start off while we were deciding on what to eat. The waitress was very sweet. I ordered the budejigae, my friends got the beef mandu(dumplings) and bulgogi doria(cheesy fried rice). It was absolutely delicious. The budejigae was just the right about of spiciness. I've been to places that include the ramen with it but you have to order separately here so if you want some, don't forget to side order. The doria was sweet and salty, bulgogi was cooked very tender. We also had a watermelon soju for the table and it was perfect. Iced and blended wonderfully. Went back another night to try the pear soju which is pretty strong so be warned! And the makkoli, which is a milky unfiltered drink. The presentation of the drinks are very unique. The soju came in a flask and Iced in an old ramen carrying canteen for the army. The makkoli came in a golden pot and you drink from metal ladel bowls. Thanks so much to locals Samantha & Zach for picking us up at the hotel and taking us to this great spot. There are actually two Gabose, a smaller BBQ spot behind the main restaurant. We did the BBQ spot. It's so wild with disco lights flashing. The decor is simple, low metal tables and stools, and a large picnic table in the middle for large parties. Hubby and I tried the shrub cocktails- fruit and herbs. I had a refreshing strawberry and basil, hubby did the blackberry and basil. Housemade chips and a pancake were served complimentary while we had a tough time deciding. Finally we chose- ramen tacos ( an absolute must, crispy crunchy square of ramen with meat, cheese and sauce on top), the special octopus stir fry ( tender octopus with quite a kick), pork ramen ( savory broth with noodles and a hidden egg), pig's ears lettuce wraps ( eat your heart out Michael C, julienne cut fried ears with veggies and sauce in a leaf of lettuce. We were so full but found room to share dessert. Pat Bing Soo shaved ice with ice cream and coconut condensed milk on top, with cheesecake and pond cake bites, as well as mochi and lychee fruit. After trying out Gabose, we had to try their sister restaurant next door, Gabose Pocha. As our server from Gabose told us, it is more of Korean street food so it is a bit more casual. We were in for a treat. Going with a Chef is the way to go because they just want to try everything. Our table ended up with a ton of dishes. Ramen noodle nachos, Octopus, spicy pork belly (cooked in the middle of the table), pork ramen, Bulgogi, spicy chicken wings, and of course their Hite beer and sake!!! They also offer LIVE FROM KOREA menu. There's a water tank with the selections written on the board. The décor makes it feel like you are outside on a street in Korea. While we were there we saw a lot of Koreans coming in, that is a great sign of an authentic place. We stayed until close and there was a lady eating chicken feet, she offers some to me and tells me they are a great source of collagen in it. Her skin looked phenomenal so I said "Why Not?" This is a cute little Korean spot located next to Gabose, their other location. It's located in a plaza and the inside is very clean and nicely decorated. They have a few tables and a small bar. The only times I've been there were after 10 pm and always sat at the bar. It's usually moderately busy and they have karaoke on Saturday nights. They always provide complimentary chips with three dipping sauces; some type of soy sauce, ketchup, and mayo. The chips are freshly made and it's very tasty. I love their soju drinks. It's a type of fruity sake like drink. I've tried a handfull of flavors and my favorite is the blueberry soju. I really want to try the watermelon soju next time. I ordered their Ramen noodles and it was really good. It had a good mixture of spicyness and an abundance of flavor. The last time I came, I took my friends from out of town and they participated in karaoke, which was a blast. It's a good spot for some late night entertainment and/or snacking. Started off with the Pocha Original Chicken Wings. When I tell you cripsy *chef kiss* like yum to die for. I asked for them well done and it was possibly the best decision I made that day. The Jumuk Bad rice bowls are so good. The sea weed actually makes the dish that much better. Even if you're not a sea weed lover, try this. Oksusu Fries were delicious. Nice cuts of corn on the cobs with perfect combination of cheese & spice. My friend who told me about the place loves the Pork Ramen. He even adds some of the Jumuk Bad rice balls to it. 5 star atmosphere, 3 star food (for a middle overall of 4)! Came in this week with a friend to get some drinks and some anju for the first time in SoFlo. My friend had never tried Makeolli before and we wanted to get a good experience in as well! The makeolli was standard (and so it was delicious)! I've never paid for Korean alcohol in this area before so I can't say if the price was above or below average. The food itself I was a bit disappointed in. We got kimchi jeon that was pretty average (but they do give a large size). The corn cheese was below average unfortunately, and hardened really quickly. The tteokbokki was also pretty average, and maybe even a bit too sweet. The atmosphere itself was fun, and quite busy for early on a Thursday. We started out with the watermelon soju which was really refreshing and a great palate cleanser between dishes. Presentation was great as it was served to us in half of a watermelon. We also ordered the fish jerky, Korean BBQ ribs, the fried sweet potatoes noodles, and the abalone. As we waited they served us the house made chips with 3 delicious sauces and they even gave us a free pancake which tasted amazing. This place is awesome! Had a blast celebrating a friends birthday. The staff is so friendly and accommodating, they even joined in with some karaoke. If you aren't familiar with some of the Korean dishes, feel free to ask the staff for what they recommend. The atmosphere gives you the feel of being in a bar in Korea, this also right next to a Korean bbq spot, I believe it's the same owners. We tasted some of the dishes, most of them were flavorful and friendly to the palate. Overall, we had a wonderful time drinking and exploring the dense list of karaoke songs. I need to come back and get more information on the menu, as I came there recently recovering from a cold so my appetite was lacking. Service was a little slow but that was probably because it was a little busy at the time we went and there wasn't enough servers. I had the gizzards which were okay but they were a little dry. The creamy tkkeboki reminded me of creamy Alfredo but it was fine because i like the texture of the rice cakes. The kimchi tots were one of my favorite dishes and so was the pork belly dish. This place used to be so good. And let me tell you, it's been a while since I've been back but what a TERRIBLE way to remember this place. LIterally from entering to leaving. Service was absolutely AWFUL. A bunch of burnouts with snake bites, Hot Topic bought outfits and wannabe dreads with terrible service who were just smoking from their weed pens and dancing rather than actually attending to the customers. It was just an awful experience. We never got out our food and literally waited an hour before we decided to leave (we wanted to give the servers the benefit out doubt that our food would be out soon). Amazing street food! All the food was given in these cute containers. We had our ramen in this lunch box that had two parts (one for the kimchi and yellow radish) and underneath was the ramen (which they gave in large amounts). The rice cakes were delicious and spicy but for about $7, it was a small portion. We also got pork belly, which seemed to be cooked in the similar sauce as the rice cakes and it was cooked with onions. We got a good amount pork belly, which made me full. We then go two plates of fried tofu, which was fried in a different way than we were expecting it to me. They wrapped it in something and then fried it so it could remain soft on the inside. Came here in a group of 4. The service left a lot to be desired. I had to get our server every time. Get up and go ask for the check. The ramen nachos were just what they called it I guess a raw bag of ramen with some meat and veggie toppings on it. The pork is good. The drinks were weird salt and vinegar like. This was really more of a 3.5 out 5 star place because we went for dinner instead of drinks. Pocha is more of a place to play drinking games and eat snacks/share plates of rice and meat. 7PM on a Friday and this place was empty. My fellow diner and I were a bit shocked by the American flag decorations and flowers hanging from the ceiling because it didn't really go with the music, ambiance, or food. Unfortunately, we confused our servers by going from eat out to eat in to eat out finally back to eat in. Thankfully because it was empty there was no problem. I ordered the bulgolgi doria and my fellow diner, the kimchi doria. For $13 it was a pretty filling portion, lots of bulgolgi, very thick stringy cheese, and flavorful rice. While the kimchi doria $11 was overpriced for the amount and lack of meat. Our faux take-out eat in situation landed us with a small side of kimchi and pickled radish. I'll admit I wasn't sure about this place at first. I was invited here by some online friends for our first IRL meet up and of course I had to scope out the Yelp page. The reviews were helpful and promising so here I went! I LOVED IT! Someone at the table recommended the Bulgogi doria which was as great, better than I imagined. Our party ended up getting quite an array of items of the menu: chicken wings (smelled and looked amazing!), the chicken shake with herbs, beef ramen, kimchi doria (perfectly spicy). There was also a spam dish which I was kinda snobby about at first but o.m.g. it was great! When I come back that's what I am getting. We also had some dumplings and my other favorite, the spicy edamame (highly recommend if you like spicy). Honestly all the food was fantastic and fresh. My favorite part about this place was our waitress, Tyler. She was so animated and helpful. Very cheerful and really knowledgeable about the menu and Korean food and culture in general. She was so lively, patient, and just gave off such a positive vibe. The location: On the smaller side, clean, a bit dark (had to use our phones to read the menu). The happy hour was great (I think 2 for 1 beer until 9pm). The seating was comfortable but if you're a big party you should make a reservation because most the tables are for 2-4 people. They combined the only long tables they had to accommodate our party of 10 (we had called ahead). The price was affordable... most the dishes our party purchased ranged from 6-13$ each. I have had a lot of good meals in my lifetime, but this one is in my top 5 best dining experiences ever. I started off with the watermelon punch bowl (10/10) As far as food, I got the Buldak chicken with a side of rice. That was the tables favorite. The wings were DELICIOUS! Fried to perfection! If you are unfamiliar with Korean food, I suggest you look up the menu ahead of time. Though we mostly came here to drink, I can say the taste of the food was great as well as the portions! Very good portion size !! I had so much fun singing karaoke with my friends and some of the staff members ! They have a private karaoke area for $55 an hour on weekends. I'm torn on my review for Gabose Pocha (the lounge). While they have a full menu, I do believe it is slightly different and perhaps limited when compared with Gabose's menu. I'd give the vibe 5 stars. I liked the decor and lighting of the lounge. It made it relaxing and more laid back than a stiff restaurant. Also, the cocktails were fun and different. We drank Soju for the first time and it is a fruit fermented alcohol. It was served like saki would be served, however it was cold. The disappointing part of our visit was the service. I don't want to be too harsh because I do think one waitress was servicing the whole area, but she was often hard to find and did not regularly check in with us. We wouldn't have cared as much normally, but our food was all brought out at separate times and my husband's dinner didn't come out until probably an hour after our friends had finished their meals! We weren't in a rush, but it wasn't ideal to be sitting and watching one couple eat and then our friends got to sit and wait for us to finish our food. Also, an appetizer that we placed first came out nearly last. It would have been a better overall experience had there been better service. However, we got 4 different dishes (kimchi, pork ramen, spicy ramen, and kimchi udon) and loved it all. The spicy edamame is really spicy, so be weary of that! Two stars because food was great; ramen nachos, bulgogi rice, kimchi pancake was all amazingly delicious. The service was way less than expected with significant delays from the time we stepped in the front door to the server forgetting to put in one of our main courses and saying they are cleaning the kitchen so it's closed! Then, offered a free dessert which was taking way too long and we had to get ice cream to go which was good.
