Before Covid I always went to the Aveda school to get my hair done, and I'm never going back! While I was in Plano taking care of my dad, I decided to take a little break and get my hair done after six months of not cutting or highlighting it. Even though I live in uptown, I am more than willing to make the 40 minute drive to essensuals to have my hair done. i trusted Amber with my first hair color. She made my grays blend by adding more pepper into my grays... as she described it she "equaled out the spices by adding more pepper to my salt" always grows out very natural. I have been going to Carson for Highlights for over a year now and she is the only person I have ever returned to to highlight my hair. I am an extremely picky person about my curly hair so I always come in with probably too many demands for ANYONE to handle, but Carson gets it right every time, even when I want to change it up a little. I very rarely give reviews (in fact this may be my first), unless service is exceptional in either direction. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed in my experience with Essensuals London. This place is pricey, but has great reviews on Yelp, so I decided to try it out. I gave this place 2 stars because my cut and color are good. I realize, at a hair salon, if my cut and color are good, what else is there to rate? Well... 1. The cut is good, no qualms about it. It took upwards of an hour (I was at the salon for literally 5 hours...) which I think a very long time for a style, but I'm willing to sit as long as the cut comes out well. Thank you, Ariana. 2. The color is also fine. I don't really feel it's what I asked for. The dimension isn't there (which I attribute to some degree to being advised to choose full highlights over partial highlights), and it's ashier/more pale than I anticipated, when I was hoping for a more golden/caramel blonde (see pictures below). Again, I'm not unhappy with the color per se, but I am disappointed in that it was not what I expected (especially given the price). 3. More than that though, at Essensuals I found a general lack of care regarding my requests, and a lack of knowledge regarding hair care products/ingredients/techniques that seemed downright amateurish and borderline negligent. a) When I made my appointment, I specifically told the front desk, Nathan, that I wanted to be shampooed and conditioned with products that did not contain (harsh) sulfates or (non-water soluble) silicones. I know this is an unusual request, so I offered to bring my OWN shampoo and conditioner if that was necessary. The front desk told me that would not be necessary, that Essensuals carried products without sulfates or silicones. When I arrived, I specified again, to both the front desk AND my colorist, Julie, that I did not want sulfates or silicones in my shampoo or conditioner. Both said that would be fine, they had "organic" products without those ingredients. After my hair was washed/conditioned, I asked to see the products they had used so that I could look them up and double-check the ingredients. The products were: Goldwell Dualsenses "Just Smooth" taming shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo's second ingredient is "Sodium Laureth Sulfate"... a harsh sulfate. And BOTH products contain "Amodimethicone" which is a non-water soluble silicone. This may all sound technical and irrelevant, and for many people it might be, and that's totally fine. The point is, to me it was not. Instead of admitting that they were ignorant or indifferent as to what my request entailed, they, frankly, lied to me. The service I ended up paying hundreds of dollars for was not the service I asked for or the service we agreed upon. b) This lack of industry knowledge did not end there. I found this place originally because I was looking for a place to do an Olaplex treatment. The front desk, Nathan, told me they don't do Olaplex (despite being listed on Olaplex's website as a salon trained to do this), but instead use BondPro. That seemed fine to me, but the front desk told me that BondPro is even better than Olaplex, because Olaplex you a) have to buy yourself, & b) it isn't mixed into the coloring formula. I'll be honest and say I am not a professional, but *everything* I have read about how Olaplex works (including extensive research on Olaplex's own website) says that: a) Olaplex No 1 and No 2 are bought and used by the salon professionals themselves... you don't bring them into the salon, & b) Olaplex No 1 is in fact mixed into the coloring formula exactly the way BondPro was supposed to be. It's not that I'm upset that the front desk didn't know the specifics of Olaplex. I'm upset that, *without* seeming to know the specifics, I was being "upsold" a product when the front desk didn't even seem to know how the original product I wanted worked. Furthermore, it strikes me as bizarre that an upscale salon in today's world wouldn't familiarize themselves with Olaplex, even if they ultimately chose not to use it. ----------------- The TL;DR is that if I, as an amateur, know more about industry ingredients/techniques/treatments than the "professionals" at a salon... there is no way that salon should be asking Essensuals' prices. read more

There are only 2 Essensuals London in the United States: Los Angeles (West Hollywood) and this one here in West Plano, TX. The founder is one of the Tony and Guy founders and you can find Essensuals London all over the world. Their mission as stated: "ESSENSUALS salons aim to provide excellence in hairdressing, in a fun, relaxed and fuss-free environment." They have a major presence in the fashion industry of the UK and have won tons of awards over there. What does this mean for the West Plano location? Hair stylists with tons of experience! You won't find rookie hair care at this place so rest assured when you book you are getting the best. It doesn't mean that your pocketbook has to suffer either. Prices will range no higher than what you find at traditional salons in the area: anywhere from $50 on up for a cut and the same price range for a highlight. The line of products they use is called Label B and is exclusive to the salon. I am a natural blonde but will get my hair highlighted a couple of times a year and when in Dallas I come see Andrew! Andrew is so insanely amazing. He has been doing highlights off and on for me since I was in my mid-twenties. He is a beautiful soul who knows how to properly take care of your color. If you are interested in a highlight or color this is who you need to ask for as he will not steer you wrong. This salon also does other services besides hair so be sure to give them a buzz for your beauty needs. Currently they have a "happy hour" style out special so if you are looking for a professional style out and are available during the afternoons you should check it out. read more

Beautiful clean salon, great shampoo station (the chairs are actually comfortable!), and great service! Came in bored of my ombré looking for a dramatic change and saw Amber for full color and Ashley Ray for cut. Both girls were awesome and I love my how my hair turned out. Total came to $90 + tip. I am somewhat new to the area and haven't had my hair cut in a long time. I worked in a salon for 8 years so I am very picky. I have super long, thick, wavy, color-treated hair to start with- I very rarely get it cut and when I do it's about 1/4"-1/2" trims. I like my hair LONG and I don't want a lot of change with it EVER!! BUT I am getting married in October and styling my hair myself- terrifying. I went to Diane on a whim based on reviews and seriously-WOW. 2 weeks later and after curling it once, straightening once, air-drying twice- she seriously nailed it. I asked for long layers, and she went the extra mile to make sure the thick section I have in the front/bangs-area was perfectly balanced and tapered. I loved Diane's technique and attention to detail. The rest of the salon was great as well- very professional but still very comfortable. I would recommend a cut here to everyone!! read more

The staff here is extremely friendly and welcoming. I see Amber for my color and Ellen for my cuts! Amber is always excited when I ask for unique colors and more than willing to try it out! I've been seeing her a little over three years now and can't imagine going to see anyone else. Even after all the different colors I've tried, my hair still feels and looks healthy and strong!
