Lousy customer service! They installed a new air conditioning system and thermostats, then denied any responsibility when the equipment failed to properly regulate the temperature in my house or cool properly. The technician told me that I had a crappy duct system so I never should have expected that my second floor could be cooled properly. Do NOT use this company!!!! read more

Three years ago, I purchased an entire mid-range, mid-priced furnace/ac system by Bryant from GAC due to the age (and advances in technology) of my formerly very dependable furnace. Bryant also has some responsibility for the negative experiences that followed. Within one month following installation, the a/c stopped cooling. John identified the problem and life went on. Not long after the first year, the heat went out and a new motor (covered by warranty) was scheduled for installation. In early to mid-September of this year, I was unable to get the blower to deliver heat although I could hear the (very loud) furnace fire up, then shut down after overheating without the blower coming on. The circuit board (also covered by warranty) was determined to be the issue. After the second service appt. to install that, Christian, the tech that day said the motor was no longer responding correctly. As the circuit board and malfunctioning motor were inter-dependent, the system had to be shut down completely, I was told. Later that day, he called to give me options on paying for an overnight delivery or waiting 7-10 days for surface shipment. On a fixed income, I decided to sweat it out. After a week of alternately steamy and cold days, and after receiving a zero balance due invoice, I contacted the company to inquire about a tracking number for the motor (remember, it's the 2nd in 3 years) and confirm that I was still scheduled for the installation. The person I spoke with confirmed that the part was ordered but had not yet arrived and assured me I was still scheduled for installation. Today I called and learned from Christian that, with his apologies, the part actually had never been ordered. I have been assured that it will be obtained immediately and that he will see that it gets installed promptly. If I hadn't already paid for a service call to determine what the latest problem was, and if I wouldn't have to pay a different contractor for the same preliminary examination, I would be contacting someone else. In spite of Bryant's incompetent manufacturing of parts and GAC's incompetent customer service, I have given a generous rating. I will be reviewing other contractors while I wait, since it's pretty much inevitable that I will be needing one before you know it. read more

The guy from Gaithersburg Air shows up, takes a quick look.. assesses that he's basically got to fix a job that was poorly done, explained every single step of what he was going to do and broke down the costs as well. Less than 2 hours later my problem was fixed and I can finally relax... my new heat pump installed by the other company was making noises like it was dying, and it was barely a month old.. so Gaithersburg Air to the rescue.. I would not recommend GAC and would advise current and future customers to check the pricing with other companies. I called GAC to repair a water leakage from my indoor A/C unit. The technician couldn't find the source but made a recommendation to replace a valve or replace the entire unit. The leak returned within 10 days so I scheduled the valve replacement for $1099. Within 2 days I noticed that the air was not cooling with the set temperature. Another technician came out late Saturday afternoon on Labor Day weekend and said I probably needed a new unit. The company was closed until Tuesday. I had no air over one of the hottest/humid weekends. I called another company who came out Labor Day and was able to get me a new unit the next day. The price quoted by GAC was $2500.00 MORE than the new company. After being a GAC customer for 13 and having a maintenance agreement I expected better service. I will not use them again. read more

I recently needed electrical work done at my home. After googling MoCo electricians, I was surprised to see GAC show up in my search. GAC installed a new HVAC unit in my home over the summer so I decided to give their electrical department a try. Not only were they able to schedule me for the next day, but it was on a Saturday so I didn't even have to take off work for it. The master electrician, Chris, showed up right on time, I told him what I needed to accomplish, and he immediately got to work. He was fast, professional, and friendly. We used GAC once before and their service was OK and we had no issue. Then recently, our A/C conked out the week before a long holiday weekend, and they had promised to send someone out on Thursday afternoon (Friday was a holiday). An hour or so later, they call to say their technician had gotten into an accident (not a problem, stuff happens), but then I was told they won't reschedule an appointment because our house has cats and they were concerned a technician might have an allergic reaction, and we were basically told to take our business elsewhere. Randy from GAC clearly knew what he was doing, and not only came up with the most inexpensive (and most appropriate solution), he made several suggestions for improvements (that worked) while we were waiting for them make the new installation. They would have gotten 5-stars if I didn't have to call them to remind them to follow-up (I figured 4 weeks was more than enough time to get back to me). Once we re-established contact, they jumped right on the project and completed the install very quickly with friendly, clean service. Wow! Just WOW! My background is in the residential home building industry. I managed the customer service department for years so I'm ALWAYS leery of using subs I don't know but I'm seriously happy I called GAC. Our upstairs A/C checked out at the beginning of summer. Not the best time, but you really don't have control over it. Anyway a tech came out and he was super helpful & honest about what was going on. The great thing is he told me the exact same thing another HVAC company told me 6 months prior. Basically we needed a new system and trying to repair it was going to cost at least 1/2 of what a new system was. They sent us a quote with 3 different options. I sent it to my brother whose a mechanical engineer and sells HVAC systems. He gave us his input and basically told us "these guys are great - you're very lucky". We ended up going with the more cost effective unit that and super happy we did. They gave us all the discounts and rebates available. And the manufacturer contacted us after the install to make sure we rec'd all the available discounts and rebates. We also rec'd a follow up call to make sure everything was running ok. Fantastic customer service and pricing! Spot on! They got our unit installed in less than a day without any inconveniences and the guys that work there are supper profession and nice! Many companies today act like they are doing you a favor, but these guys (and girls) truly believe in service and making it right the first time. Our air conditioner unit went out recently and because our previous service contract, with another company, hadn't been renewed (unknown to us) we decided to seek out other companies. The former company never sent a renewal notice of any kind so we figured they didn't really need/want our business. I reached out to GAC because a former student of mine had some connections in that her parents sold their business to GAC years back. Anyway, when I called they sent a service engineer out the next morning.....very early as I requested which was earlier than their normal start time (+) Tommy, our service engineer, informed me that our unit was going to need major repair or replacement. He shared with me our options, including a temporary fix until a unit could be ordered. Being prudent, we proceeded to get 2 more bids and found GAC to be competitive in replacing the whole unit. As soon as we decided to go with GAC they had the temporary part in place so that my house would have air condition until they could install our new unit the next week. Installment day came and the crew of 7-8 guys showed up and had everything done in 2.5 ours. This included replacing equipment in our attic. The crew was on time, VERY courteous, neat/clean and fast. The office staff was very pleasant, helpful and worked hard to get us scheduled according to what we requested. They even called back to move our time to better serve our time constraints when a slot opened up. GAC is by far one of the best companies we've used for our home. We have a service contract with GAC now which they will remind us to renew each year ;-) and they will be the company we use when the other unit needs to be replaced. read more

We just started our maintenance agreement plan with GAC and had our first service. The service technician, Jeff, was excellent. He arrived a bit early, which I personally like, and was very professional. He answered all our questions, took care of business in a straightforward, orderly manner and finished up in less than half an hour. He pointed out a few things that we were unaware of regarding our particular furnace system in our new home which is definitely good to know going forward. Particularly, if you have a humidifier on your furnace, it will work better if it is actually hooked up and running. :) read more

I have used them for both home AC services and for electrical services. Excellent service provided on all counts. I subscribe so that my AC gets checked 2x a year, and they actually found a leak in my plumbing valve (hose bib) when they went to clean off the outdoor unit. They have installed ceiling fans for me, replaces switched and plugs, and keep the cool in summer and toasty in winter.... Great service - highly recommend! read more

We have a service maintenance contract, they come twice a year to maintain our system. This service is OK, can't complain. The last time service was performed, I was presented with a bill for $295. I was puzzled, but since my wife signed the agreement, I paid the bill, my wife then told me that we should not be paying for anything. I called them, they said because of this and that ( mostly BS) they beed to install a Run Capacitor, that was the $295 for. I happen to be an engineer, owner of a high tech engineering company, and I know what a Run Capacitor is, they are under $10 on ebay, shipping included. read more

I received a proposal later that day and was impressed how much information was given so an educated consumer can compare the estimates to each other. I then clicked on the approve tab and worked the financing out in an hour with Monica. A few days later, I had a team of five men (Sean, JR, Noah, Christian, & Jake) install my new HVAC systems. They arrived on time, worked all day and by 5pm I had both systems up and running. My house is very cool on a hot and humid day in August. More importantly, their work was done well. My father, who is a retired plumber with 50 years' experience, was eager to inspect the job and was extremely pleased on the installation and the quality of their work. We've used GAC for the last 10 years os so and have been very pleased with their service and equipment. I May 2018 we started discussions with GAC on possibly replacing our complete HVAC system, inside and outside units. They had a tech come out and he measured everything to ensure the recommended Bryant system would be the right fit. We came to an agreement and in late June 2018 they sent a team of four (4) techs out for the new system installation. The installation team was outstanding, exhaling and answering my questions, including those about the new "House wise" smart thermostat. My wife and I are a frequent patron of GAC Services since moving to Gaithersburg, MD and have been extremely happy with their products and services, including the purchase and installation of a new heat pump. Recently, our furnace started to develop a rather annoying noise when the blower motor/fan was running. The initial GAC service technician diagnosed the problem as a faulty blower motor without examining the unit while it was running. He then ordered a motor to be replaced within a week. A second technician replaced the motor, however both he and I noticed that the old motor was not firmly attached to its bracket. When he left, I examined the old motor and noticed nothing was wrong with it. After contacting GAC, my wife and I each received a telephone call from Rich Biava (one of the owners) apologizing greatly for this error. To remedy this misdiagnosis, we received a complete refund for this service. To top it off, we were allowed to keep the new motor installed in our furnace. Because of GAC Services commitment to satisfy my wife and I, we will definitely contact them in the future regarding any repairs or most probably the purchase of a new furnace when it is needed. read more

I have been a faithful customer of GAC since the early 1990's. I've had my heat pump replaced not once, but twice by GAC. In addition, I've had a yearly maintenance agreement with them for all of those years. This June, I returned from being away for several months to find my unit was not cooling properly. Although my maintenance was scheduled in another week's time, GAC responded to my call to check out the A/C. The first technician told me the Freon (Puron) was totally gone so I have a leak, but he couldn't find it. They said another tech would come the following day and bring more "sensitive detection equipment" to locate the leak. Leak still not detected, so a third Technician comes an hour or so later to join the other two technicians. They finally tell me they found a "pinhole" leak. Fine, what do you suggest? Option, replace the coil or replace the outside unit, so looking at $2,500 or $4,400, respectively. I decided to get more quotes from other HVAC companies before making a decision. Cut to bottom line....the first company offered replacement and the second company offered replacement or repair. Yes, with a pinhole leak a repair may be worth a try. I opted for the repair which cost $504 and my unit has been working perfectly for the last 3 months. I'm crossing my fingers the unit will continue to work for another year or two. However, the more serious issue was that GAC failed to inform me one of the pads on the contactor was totally missing. I believe they figured I would replace the outdoor unit, so that issue would be moot. The contactor issue was mentioned in the subsequent paperwork I receive as an attachment via email later that day or the next, but it was not verbally discussed with me at the time. I was led to believe the only issue was the pinhole leak, thus I did not bother to read the paperwork. In fact, I was totally unaware of the faulty contactor until the Fall maintenance was performed this September 2018. During this maintenance, the very experienced technician explained that a faulty contactor could potentially damage the compressor, and his comment was confirmed when I researched the issue and discovered the following quote by a HVAC professional: "Pitted Contactors can cause the unit to fail and diminish the capacity of the AC unit to cool your dwelling. Typically, when contactors are pitted and burnt they will start sticking. When they stick, they create a circuit wherein electricity is constantly sent to the compressor. If this circuit is left on for a long period of time, it will allow liquid refrigerant to flow into the compressor. Compressors are designed to pump gaseous refrigerant and will be ruined as it will attempt to compress the liquid." In discussions with Jim at GAC he stated a faulty contactor would not ruin the compressor, but that appears to be in conflict with the above statement. Also, Jim was to call me back about a partial reimbursement for the contactor, but never did. I had always recommended GAC to friends because I trusted them to be honest and do good work. GAC dropped the ball on many fronts, so I will be hunting for a new HVAC company to service my current unit and install a new one in the future. read more

I needed two ceiling fans installed in my condo. There was no electricity previously in the ceilings. After getting a few quotes I decided to go with GAC. Their prices are very competitive and they are very organized. They know what they're talking about. Both ceiling fans were installed without any problems! I had a situation with this company that is very similar to one of the hidden reviews except mine was with my AC, not my heater. The unit in the basement started making a lot of noise so I called them and made an appointment for several days later, their first availability. They came out and removed the front cover of the unit, looked inside, and noted that the fan was not running properly and said we would need to replace the motor/fan but strongly recommended replacing our entire system. There was an $89 diagnostic fee which we paid. A few days later, one of their salesmen came to assess our needs and write us up a quote. The night before he came, the AC stopped working altogether. Nothing coming out of the vents and a heat wave about to move in. The salesman strongly recommended I do not try and turn it on again and later that day sent me an estimate for $1350 to replace the part that was not working and $7800 to replace the entire system. I was ready to proceed with replacing the system, based on their urging, when my father recommended getting a 2nd opinion and pointed out that particular hidden review to me. Since it sounded almost verbatim like my experience thus far, I decided to have someone else out. The 2nd company I called had someone at my house in an hour. Unlike GAC, this guy actually removed the fan/motor assembly and looked inside to see WHY it was not working. Removing this part took him less than 5 minutes and even I could immediately see why the fan was not working. The screw that holds it to the shaft that spins it had come loose and was hanging half way out. So he screwed it back in. Problem solved. AC is working great again. Happily paid this 2nd fellow his $89 fee. He was at my house less than 30 minutes. I wrote GAC telling them that I would not be using their company and why and asking for a refund of my diagnostic fee back since they had not diagnosed anything. They did issue me the refund and left me a voice mail apologizing for missing the diagnosis. The diagnosis that was so easy to make that even I, who knows nothing about air conditioners, could see what was wrong. Had they only taken a couple of moments to remove the part in question and investigate I assume they would have seen it too. read more

I needed to replace my 14-year old heat pump, and had been working on this project since summer, with several HVAC service providers to bid, understand the models, and compare. You know what I means. GAC services was the last one I contacted because my neighbors, HOA, and friends all recommended it. I was so glad that I made this decision. 1. Contacted GAC services on its web form on Friday night (10/21) for questions, and Fritz answered all my questions in detailed immediately 2. Schedule the estimate appointment with Monica. She was so patient and prompt to my requests, due to my travel schedule, I had to cancel the appointment 3. The estimate walk-through with Fritz on 11/08: He is very knowledgeable, giving me advice on different models in the proposal for me to choose, and more importantly helping me understand the difference among them, not just the price, but the overall picture 4. The measurement visit by Chris: He really impressed me by optimizing the best choice to install the air handler/fan upstairs and listening to all my requests 5. The installation day: the crew of 5 came on time and finished the job within 3 hours, with thorough clean-up. More importantly showing me all documents and how to use my smart thermostats. :) 6. Last but not least, 3 weeks after the installation, today I have received my pepco rebate approval. Yeah!!! It was such a pleasant and easy experience to work with GAC services. My AC stopped working yesterday afternoon, while my husband was out of town and I was home alone. I know nothing about AC units, so I called my home inspector and asked for a recommendation. He gave me the number for these guys and I called this morning. They had someone out here at 3:30pm to fix my unit! And within an hour of the tech being here, he had diagnosed the problem and fixed it, and my home is now cooling off the way it should. I would highly recommend this company. I would never call GAC again. After at tune-up for our old but functioning natural gas heating system on a Friday afternoon, our home smelled as if something was burning. I was advised by phone to GAC that the motor was probably burned out but I might new an entirely new furnace. I called another company who discovered that a wire within the furnace was disconnected and had my heat back on within two minutes. I am upset that GAC did not return to my home as requested and that I had to pay another firm to fix a problem that GAC created. read more

GAC has always impressed me. Guy came out yesterday to re-balance our home, charged us a minimal amount to unclog the outside a/c unit and moved some dampers and gave us some good advice. This is one of several times I've used GAC, including a new installation of furnace/ac system a few years back, and they always send pros who know their business.
