Went there for breakfast on Dec 8,2014. I gave my order to the waitress in plain english : A vegetarian egg white omelette with just a little feta added. The omelette was served with extra feta...when i showed this to the waitress she said " well what do you want me to do?" ..."Take it back, remake it with just A LITTLE feta", I told her. In about 7 minutes it came back ...same amount of feta...I didnt eat it. and the waitress just took my plate without a word...When I took my bill to the counter to pay, the owner (or manager) asked "and how was everything?""Terrible" I said and explained the situation...The manager then examined the waitress's order and stated "ahhh here is the reason ! Your waitress never wrote easy on the feta on the order.." Oh ...but was this omellete taken off the bill ??? Hell no.!!..Even knowing it was the server's fault, and knowing I didnt eat it.... I guess they need every dime they make. My advice: if you venture in here, just take what they give you and don't ask for anything to be made to your liking...It won't be. read more

My daughter's and I went for breakfast this morning. Was surprised that they were not busy, but was glad because we were on a time crunch before church. After being seated, the busboy brought me coffee and than nothing. We were there for about 15 minutes with no one coming to the table. The wait staff seemed more interested in socializing with each other and customers at the counter. Since we were on a schedule, we walked out and went someplace else. Had a wonderful experience with a pick up order. Called in, and the order was ready within ten minutes. We stopped in today for lunch, against my better judgement. And I wasn't disappointed.Its just as bad as it's been the last two times we were there. I ordered a veggie wrap. It was listed as containing lettuce, cucumber, baby spinach, onion, etc. It arrived COOKED. Who cooks lettuce, cucumbers, etc.? I asked if the menu indicated it was a Hot wrap, and no it wasn't my error. The waitress was not apologetic, saying all their wraps are cooked. I sent it back, ate nothing else, and left. So my husband and I have been going back and forth about whether or not the food is worth returning for. I still haven't decided. If I were judging on food alone Gail's Carriage Inn would land between a 4 and a 5. Definitely good eats. Very nice waitress. Long wait but ended up being worthwhile. HOWEVER (and this is a big however) I don't know who the man who seated us is but he is the reason that my husband and I hesitate to return. After our name was called he grabbed 2 menus and started walking through the restaurant to, what came to be, our booth. Not a "hello", not a "hey". NOTHING. He didn't even wait to see if we were following! He must have been next to our table for about 30 seconds before we reached it (got caught up with a waitress delivering food to another table). And then what did this fine gentleman do? Slap the menus on either side of the table and then started talking to some friends/regulars (I really don't know which is accurate) without so much as an "enjoy". I believe I am right to assume that they were regulars because he returned to that booth behind us on 3 other occassions during our meal. But us? Nothing. Not a word from that man. How do I know I'm not exaggerating? My husband got offended! He is one of the most passive, go-with-the-flow type people I know. He would rather "not see" something than to argue or raise a fuss. For him to be offended by the lack of customer service says a lot. Will we go back? I really don't know. I would like to. I really would. But if I get the same type of service from this man, I am likely to cause a scene if I'm in a bad mood. People don't deserve this. My money is green just like that of the people that were in the next booth. read more

Food quality was horrid!!! Service was great. I went in around 12 noon 12/20/2014 a saturday. I ordered the meat lovers which was 2 strip of bacon one was rubbery, 2 sausage links. The sausage had absolutely no flavor. The ham was very good. the eggs were watery and the hash browns I had were barely cooked. The toast was barely toasted. When I went to pay the manager asked me how everything was I said it was ok. Told him the sausage was tasteless and he didn't even apologize. I will not eat here again. Always looking for a new breakfast spot in the area, but was hoping for better food here. Its a very old crowd, which isn't a bad thing. The food was just utter bland. I got a steak omelet I believe it was. All the ingredients sounded good, but zero salt and seasoning. The steak tasted blah with no seasoning, and same for the peppers, onions, potatoes, etc... I have been coming here since 2006. The service was the worst I have had in a long time. Our server who I would describe as young, 20's, dark hair, thin and wears her hair on top of her head in a bun was hot on our trail with the coffee pot before our butts even hit the booth. She asked if we wanted coffee and we replied no thank you. She then asked what we wanted to drink. I told her that I didn't know yet (I hadn't even cracked the menu open). The menu's had changed on my last visit and I knew they had a new coffee drink but wasn't sure what flavors it came in. After I found the drink list we were ready to order. After a few minutes had passed with our menu's closed I tried to make eye contact but she continued to eat something out of a bowl in front of all the customers, right where the food is being served. Health violation number one! After she finally put her bowl down she didn't wash her hands! Second health violation! We waited a good ten minutes before she came to take our order (yes, we were being punished because we didn't snap our drink order out when she wanted us to) it was not busy in the restaurant at all! By now I was fuming and ready to leave. My friend asked that we just stay because they were starving. I agreed but it just got worse. We finally get our food and my omelette looked like slop that you would serve a pig! The potatoes on the outside of the omelette were undercooked and sloppily prepared. I have ordered this on numerous occasions and never had a problem. My friends food was prepared correctly thank goodness since our server never came to our table again after she left the food. I couldn't get a refill on my Cappuccino nor a napkin to save my life! Finally she left the bill. I will leave something for her. Expect a visit from the Cook County Health Department! read more

Was really glad I found this place and it was by accident when looking through a pamphlet about places to eat around this area. I live about 10 min away from it so thought would give it a try. Their food was really scrumptious. The place looked kind of tacky and outdated with chickens on the walls. Their prices were decent for the amount of food you get. Paid about 8 bucks for a omelet that came with salsa and potatoes with onion and with 2 pancakes. It was called Santa Fe omelet, definitely recommend it. The food was done really fast, which I was very surprised but than again it is an omelet and pancake so shouldn't take that long anyways. The service was ok, throughout the whole stay no one came even once to check on us. I guess you have to go to the register, since after few minutes no one ever came back for our check that was ready with the money. I hate to do this because we come here all the time and usually have a great experience, but just today my boyfriend and I went in and the service was horrible. We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant and literally weren't noticed at all so we got up and left. We were probably sitting there for at least 20 minutes, no one even came with water. My wife wanted to stop here on a Saturday late morning/early afternoon. She had mentioned she had been here before and loved it. As soon as I walk in we were greeted in a very friendly manner. We are a family of five so they had to set up a table for five up which they did promptly with no problem. As I was being seated I noticed a waitress eating her meal at the counter. I just thought that was odd even though I knew she was probably on break. Just seemed like an odd first impression. We ordered our meal(s) which were all very good and were delivered to our table in a timely manner as well. When eating I noticed a gentleman sitting at the counter eating (where the waitress was) and talking to some guests as they arrived. He was an employee too, possibly the manager or owner from what I heard. He certainly spent time talking to others which knew him but did not say anything to our table even though it was less than 15 feet away. That just left a negative impression with me. Perhaps the employees could eat out of plain view of the customers? To me I basically felt ignored by the gentleman unless we were a regular and when I saw the waitress eating I was hoping she was not going to server my food after eating her own food first! I will give this place another shot though. If it wasn't for the employees eating at the counter, this would have been a 4 star review. read more

I starting going to Gails Carriage 16 years ago -They were on Northwest Highway - when I was dating my husband, got married, had a son, and I still have cravings for their spinach/Canadian bacon crepes bathed with Hollandaise sauce. I have lived on the north shore all my life and never knew about Gail's Carriage Inn. My husband and daughter joined me for breakfast on Sunday. We were seated after a few minutes, it was very busy. We received hot coffee right away. I ordered the "Spuds Section -- ULTIMATE". OMG, huge chunks of crabmeat, with green onions, tomatoes, big pieces of asparagus and monterey jack cheese all encased in a fluffy omelet, wrapped in golden brown hash browns. Absolutely wonderful! My husband and daughter were both extremely satisfied with their choices also. I normally bring half my breakfast home with me when we go out, but this was so good, I ate 95% of it! The service was good, food was hot, steaming as a matter of fact! We will definitely be going back to Gail's, because the menu is so enticing with many more things I want to try.
