So i read some reviews about this place and decided to stop in, it's also conveniently close to my house. It was around 8am and i just got off work. It was pretty busy and only one waitress and who I'm guessing was the manager. We were seated right away which was great. Got the menu and BAM so many choices!! I could barely decide! I ended up getting an omelet with a side of toast. (I love toast) We got our food in a reasonable amount of time and didn't have to wait long. I must say the portions were HUGE! I definitely didn't finish all of it. This place is kind of a "regulars" place as in most of people there probably are there every morning. But I do like it place. I really love a good salad. A good quality, fresh ingredients and interesting salad. I mean an entree' salad that fills you up for the day. Our very friendly and fantastic waitress recommended the Cobb salad and it did not disappoint. I had more than half of it left over, which I packed up (too yummy to leave) and brought to my sisters house. My mother had a traditional breakfast and she enjoyed it thoroughly. Seriously, one of the best breakfast places ever. At first appearance, Gail's looks like a simple breakfast dinner. But oh no, its much more than that. A very low-key restaurant, but absolutely wonderful! My family and I ordered from Gail's through DoorDash, very close to closing time, the food was amazing! The tuna salad was so yummy, very simple, but perfectly prepared! Just like eating something I'd make at home, but without having to put in the work myself! I was a huge fan of Gail's Carriage restaurant on Northwest Highway many, many years ago. Since I moved away, it was difficult to get there, so it's been a long time since I had Gail's. Went to Buffalo Grove yesterday and ordered my all time favorite - potato pancakes. I was expecting the same lemony mouth watering pancakes from years ago. Instead, there was no hint of lemon and a super peppery taste... I was a little disappointed. But I'll still go back and try something new! read more

We were looking for a good breakfast close to O'Hare Airport and after reading some reviews, decided on Gail's. We were not disappointed! I got the oatmeal raisin pancakes and they were DELICIOUS. My husband got one of the Hash Brown Omelettes and loved it, and I got to eat my son's blueberry waffle leftovers the next day and even a day old they were super tasty. The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent. We also really liked the coffee, and we almost never like the coffee at these kinds of restaurants. The menu is enormous - almost overwhelming. But everything sounded delicious and we were very pleased. We will go back! read more

The wife and I went here about 1 week ago, the restaurant looked nice. The booth we sat at had a divot that I fell into, they had to toss me a rope and pull me out. I didn't ask for another seating, I just sat to the side. The menu was large and I found myself comparing meals to see what the difference was between them since they seemed the same but there was a $1.50-$2 diff. The meals were ok but nothing to write home about. Coffee was not strong. It looked like prices were high. read more

I got their famous spud omelette (meat lovers) and it was delicious! I had leftovers, and it was just as good the next day. The hashed potato had the perfect amount of crunch, the cheese was perfectly melted. The coffee wasn't weak which was a nice surprise. I find the coffee in these little diners tends to be watered down, but not at the carriage. Our server was attentive and kept our coffee hot. Myself and my group of 25 ate here before a local Steampunk event at the antique centre around the corner. Gail's was chosen mostly because of the location, being close to our event, and the good reviews. For a small, non-chain restaurant probably not used to such large groups (especially one as unusual as ours), they took care of us pretty well. The menu had quite a selection of unique and creative dishes, and I got tons of great feedback from my group members about the taste and quality of the food. The service was friendly, even if it was a bit obvious the servers were confused by our dress (my fault, I completely forgot to tell them what the gathering was for!), and there were a few people who had to remind our servers about their drink order. Coffee mugs were refilled quickly, though the quality of the coffee itself seemed to sway quite dramatically between refills. I had gotten a very interesting dish which consisted of cheesy scrambled eggs with diced ham and half of a baked squash filled with raisins, cranberries, walnuts, and apples. Like I said, unique and creative! And pretty tasty, too. The eggs were perfect. The squash was good, certainly the talk of the table, but it was missing just a little something... a little drizzle brown sugar, cinnamon, or mildly-sweet syrup over the fruit, maybe, to bring it all together. Other than very, very minor niggles like that, it was obvious that the restaurant was going out of their way to make sure our meal was pleasant. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and their food. The next time we do this event, if they'd have us, I think we will come back. read more
