Over the years I have visited this diner many times on trips to the Flagstaff area. It is always a fun visit with classic photos of movies and TV shows and movie stars from the 50s and 60s. Besides the retro vibe there are plenty of outer space items (thus the Galaxy name) and since it is a short drive from Lowell Observatory where Pluto was discovered and near the meteor crater where astronauts trained for their trip to the moon, the connection is awesome. We were seated right away and the wait staff was on a roll, serving the very busy crowd on a Saturday afternoon. I am always impressed that this place has OVER 100 flavors of milkshakes and malts. I had the open face turkey sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes, and veg--I had them the hold the cranberry sauce since I am not a fan of that sauce. My friend had a huge plate of onion rings. The only down side was that the turkey breast was not the chunk of turkey I was expecting, just a few thin slices of deli turkey breast (like you would have in a sandwich) and the gravy was too salty. The parking is in the back of the restaurant. Fyi--the pavement between the car park and the front door is broken and uneven and was a challenge for my friend and her walker, so the mobility impaired may find it difficult to navigate. read more

This was such a cute spot close to my hotel & I love a good diner!! Unfortunately, this was not a good diner. We went here on a Sunday morning about 1 hour after they opened. They're were only 3 other tables besides us & yet the service slow. The you g lady waiting on us seemed quiet or tired or like she didn't want to be there. She didn't mention when she seated us that the waffle maker was broken or that certain items weren't available...until we tried to order them. When we got our food, literally all of it was cold. I ordered oatmeal which came as a large bowl w/ plastic to go containers of nuts, raisins, & brown sugar & a small container of milk. It tastes fine, but it was very off-putting to eat cold/almost hard oatmeal. My friend got 3 eggs, toast, & spuds which were like thinly sliced potatoes. He, also, said his food was cold & felt that (unlike my huge portion of cold oatmeal) the portion was small. I didn't bother taking pics. I didn't bother trying to send things back or speak to anyone in charge because it was such slow service to begin with. This place is cute inside. I love the ambiance of a diner. This diner can get pretty busy as it's centered in a college town. We opted for a couple of burgers, some quesadillas and the pot roast dinner. The food was tasty ! Surprising to walk in on a Friday night and see this place empty. The decor was your classic 50's diner. Pictures of iconic performers from the era adorned the walls. Great service, and frankly that and the ambience are the only reason this place gets a 3 star. Took 30 minutes longer than the rest of the food to get my milkshake, and the flavors really just blended into vanilla instead of mint and raspberry... I was not impressed by their vegetarian selection, a lot of stuff was either made with meat broth or had bacon hidden in it. I finally settled on the zucchini sticks and they gave me back clearly two different types of fried zucchini-- one was round little medallions and one was long and thin like a mozzarella stick. Wow, this looks like a cool place to eat. I try to never give businesses poor reviews because I understand how hard it is to keep a place going but after reading some other reviews here on Yelp the owners need to do something about the service. We walked into the waiting area and stood for 5-10 minutes, maybe longer. No one acknowledged us being there. I saw two of the waitstaff taking care of tables but the restaurant was not that busy. Ah! I love this place! I lived in Flagstaff during middle school (20 years ago) and this was a go-to spot back then for weekend family breakfast and after school fries anf milkshakes with friends. We had a party of exactly 8 people where there is a sign that says they add a mandatory 12% gratuity to the check. However we paid separate checks which is bs. I ordered one of the limited edition holiday meals- beef burgundy - and it was delicious! I didn't expect such a delicious and elevated dish at a diner but I was impressed. They had a lot of options for hot cocoa which I was obsessed with and had to order the French vanilla hot cocoa! I also ordered a root beer and it was a classic old fashioned styled root beer and I couldn't get enough!! The service was really great my server was a champ working all by herself as a server! Ambiance of Galaxy diner is great. It feels like a true diner from back in the days with the decor and music. When we went on a Friday night for dinner, there was live music. Service was good and the waiters were friendly. I ordered the March special turkey, candied bacon, and cheese melt sandwich and veggies. The candied bacon was very good and I liked that it came with a pickle. I could tell the veggies had been frozen/store-bought though so that wasn't great. Dad's heading back down the mountain soon and I'm always sad to see him go. But one thing we have started to do is our traditional good bye breakfast at Galaxy Dinner. This morning I had French toast with eggs and bacon, which dad shared his potatoes with me. And Dad got the corn beef with the toast and eggs. Unfortunately we had to get it changed out since they mix bell peppers with their corn beef, but we got bacon instead and it worked. A great breakfast to get dad down the mountain! The service is very good, but the food left much to be desired. My wife had a chicken breast sandwich - meat was not trimmed well so there was rubbery pieces which spoiled the entire sandwich. They were welcoming when you go into the establishment. There's signs everywhere that say no photos no videos. The server didn't really know the menu or know the shake menu. Food is typical diner food but doesn't have that wholesome diner feel or taste. Price point is something you'd expect out of an actual restaurant not a diner the fact between two people you spend 60$ and ask for a tip. Save yourself the effort and just go to in n out you get more food better service and the staff that are cleaning the tables their rags don't look like they haven't been changed since the 50's. My daughter and I spent the weekend in Flagstaff and this gem was nearby. We got lured by the retro neon sign and the offer of 100 different milkshakes. We got seated right away and were greeted by one of the most beautiful smiles, our server Rae. She was truly a delight and created such a special atmosphere for my daughter and I to enjoy the amazing country fried steak, galaxy potatoes and coffee that seemed to have been brewed from celestial coffee beans as it was a deliciously silky coffee! The food was GREAT!!! Big portions, and very delicious. I had a huge omelette, potatoes & toast. I couldn't finished it all!! The potatoes reminded me of the ones my dad used to make. This is an old-school 1950's style diner on Route 66 in Flagstaff near NAU. There is a large private parking lot. My daughter tried this spot with a few friends and wanted to come back with us because the food and vibe were super nostalgic and comforting. When I came up to pick up the girls, we went here for an early dinner and Cole was our server. He had excellent customer service and was super friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better server. The menu was a little daunting with 100 choices of milkshake, so I asked what his favorite was and he recommended the strawberry Oreo shake. I immediately wanted that shake and was not disappointed. My daughter also changed her order to get the strawberry Oreo shake. It was very, very good. It comes in an old-fashioned glass milkshake cup with some whipped cream on top and a tall spoon and the extra milkshake comes in the silver mixing cup so it's like you're getting two shakes for one. The food was really good here too, and has some decent to large portions. We ordered: - Strawberry Oreo Milkshake x2 - Peanut Butter Banana Milkshake - West Coast Chicken Sandwich - Turkey, Avocado and Jack Sandwich - Splish Splash Fish & Chips There are a few signs up that say videos and pictures are prohibited, but I asked the staff and they said it was OK to take photos of the food and establishment. I'm assuming the signs are up because there are a lot of personal photos covering the walls, of movie star from the 1950s. I was on a little road trip today and was driving through flagstaff and decided to stop at Galaxy because I hadn't eaten all day I'm 8 months pregnant and needed to stretch my legs and get some good food in me. Little did I know I would be entering an establishment where the staff would ignore me for at least 10 minutes getting the drinks and food orders of at least 2 other table that were sat before us. Like I said I'm 8 months pregnant and was frustrated cause I was pretty hungry when I made it apparent I was upset the waitress decided to yell in my face about how she was the only server working which is not my problem at all and I don't think I should have been treated that way whatsoever. I had eaten here in 2004. The food was delicious, the restaurant was clean and well kept. However, I revisited the restaurant in June, 2026. It is in disrepair, with taped rips in the booths. The floor in the bathroom was sticky. And the salad was mediocre at best. The chicken tasted mealy and the bacon was inedible. My stomach bothered me most of the day after eating here. Plus, my companion ordered a burger, and anything not listed as coming with the burger, such as mayonnaise, was an upcharge.
