    Paella Valenciana

After a walk through Inwood Hill Park, we wandered in for a late afternoon lunch. There were so many items on the menu that sounded amazing, but we settled on the dátiles rellenos, patatas bravas, and Judeas salteadas con jamón serrano. And, then, we couldn't resist the paella valenciana. Everything was incredible -- it was like being back in Spain with dishes that were clearly made with love. The servers were attentive and even between lunch and dinner services on a Saturday, they had loyal patrons. It's a trek from Brooklyn, but we'll worth the ride on the A train (which isn't too far away). Thrilled to find this!

The ham croquettes were perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy inside -- comforting and delicious. The octopus with paprika was tender and smoky, with just the right balance of spice. The potatoes with paprika made a simple but bold side, and tied in wonderfully with the octopus. The star of the evening was the seafood paella -- beautifully presented, full of fresh seafood, and perfectly cooked rice with that classic saffron aroma. Each bite had layers of flavor that reminded us of authentic coastal Spain. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere warm and relaxed -- perfect for sharing tapas and wine with good company. Highly recommend this place if you're craving authentic Spanish flavors done right

We randomly found this place after walking around in Inwood Park, and it was such a great find. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and there is a full bar area. We sat outside since the weather was nice and we could people watch. Everyone that we interacted with was extremely gracious and accommodating. My friend dropped her fork, and right away, a server came by to replace it without us even having to ask. It was very refreshing to see such amazing customer service. The menu has a variety of classic tapas and seafood options that are great to share. I loved the complimentary bread that was served ahead of our meal. We ordered several dishes, including the pulpo a la Gallega, which was cooked perfectly and had a soft buttery texture. The datiles rellenos were so good, and if you love sausage, definitely try the chorizo a la plancha. My friend got the pargo a la cazuela, and it was just ok. It was too bland and would have been better with additional seasoning. We left this place completely stuffed and satisfied with the great food and service. Looking forward to my next visit.

TLDR: I will no longer gatekeep this establishment 5/5 I've been disappointed by tapas before but my friends who frequent this spot a lot (the staff know them) assured me that I would not be today and my god I wasn't. I can't tell you every dish I ate I'm sorry there were too many plates to count but I can assure you all of them were delicious from: bacon-covered dates, to tomato w toasted bread, scallops, stuffed mushrooms, crispy potatoes, sausage, the mussels?? I can go on! The service was incredible, they were so nice and anticipated your needs. Each dish was made with so much flavor and love and kept on coming! The sangria was delicious and cleansed the palette every time. To think that I lived so close over here and never knew! If you want the full experience from good service to even better food, come here! Please support them! Other notes: - Accessible by the A or 1 train - The cutest interior and they have outdoor seating! - The menu is entirely in spanish but they got you its okay. - Great for larger groups

I also ordered the empanadas which had good dough but the filling was ok. I also had a mocktail which was alright. I had two main entrees one was the steak and shrimp and another was the brick chicken. For dessert, I had the crème brûlée and it was good. I would say the custard part should be thicker. The service was good; I went the day before Valentine's Day. The staff was friendly and I would definitely come back. I did want the burger but they didn't have it. The place is small but is a nice place for a dinner date or solo. Everyone looked like they were enjoying their food. I would come to try more items from their menu.

There's always something new whenever I return home, and this time it was Chez Messy, just around the corner from the 157th Street train station. Perched up upon a small staircase, this two-floor restaurant is intimate, cozy, and deeply sultry. Nestled in the heart of Uptown New York City, a neighborhood known for its Dominican roots and growing diversity, Chez Messy shines as a Spanish Caribbean infused gem that took my breath away. The space feels both refined and familiar, elegant yet soulful. As I sat waiting for my mother, I opened the menu, and immediately everything called my name. Our server Joshua was an absolute delight, attentive, kind, and confident in every recommendation. Antonio, the owner and floor manager, greeted us with charm and poise. Dressed in a sharp suit, he exuded pride and grace, the embodiment of someone who deeply loves what he has created. What touched me most was realizing that this Spanish Caribbean dream of a restaurant is owned and operated by Dominicans. As someone who has traveled the world and eaten in countless hidden gems tucked along cobblestone streets, I can say this place holds its own among the best. We started with a crisp glass of Albariño and dove into the pulpo and mofonguitos filled with ropa vieja. Let me start by saying I'm not typically a red meat superfan, but that evening I was completely transformed. The ropa vieja was tender, savory, juicy, and full of flavor. The plantain cups that held it were subtly sweet, creating a beautiful harmony between bold and delicate notes. The pulpo was perfection, tender octopus paired with a light touch of vinegar and oil, thinly sliced onions, capers, and cherry tomatoes that burst like little jewels of freshness. It was bright, balanced, and refreshing, a perfect prelude to what would become an unforgettable meal. Then came a surprise from Antonio, the avocado salad and batatas bravas, further inviting us into the full Chez Messy experience. I've had batatas bravas in Spain and beyond, but these were divine. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, with seasoning that danced on the palate. The avocado salad was heaven itself, silky avocado paired with slivers of almonds and a hint of citrus, perhaps grapefruit, creating a beautifully layered bite that was both rich and refreshing. By the time our entrée arrived, filet mignon and shrimp in cream sauce, medium rare, we were already swept away. The filet was tender and bursting with flavor, the shrimp perfectly cooked, and the cream sauce was so delicious that I found myself tempted to lick the plate. Everything about our experience at Chez Messy was divine, from the impeccable service to the romantic, dark, and dreamy ambiance, the vibrant music that moved through the air, and the drinks that sparkled as much as the conversation. Chez Messy is where you go when you want great food in a wonderful location, when you want to feel inspired, seen, and transported. It is a love letter to Spanish Caribbean flavor and Dominican pride, wrapped in elegance and joy. This place deserves to be full every night, though a part of me secretly wants to keep it all to myself.
