The place has 5 star service and 10 star food. No other service beats it in Charlotte and I've tasted nothing better there either. But the duck is ok but can barely fill an athletic person (if you are an athlete training for long distance sports). Taste: i liked both dishes. The duck is flavorful. Speed of food preparation: they are on the slow side. Especially between my flatbread and the duck. The wait was over 15 minutes Atmosphere: i decided to sit at the bar. Came here for a work dinner and it was amazing. Not busy or loud on a Friday night, which is always nice. Our waiter was very helpful, definitely had strong opinions about the food and wasn't afraid to tell you if you should do something different. I had the scallop ravioli appetizer, seared white fish and homemade ice cream. It was very good and really not as expensive as I anticipated. Perhaps because everything is expensive in Seattle? To start on a positive note, the staff was extremely helpful working around my food allergies and were extremely nice. They were attentive without being stuffy. The bartender picked a great wine for my mom and I to drink and was great all around. Dinner was mediocre (I got the turkey burger and sweet potato fries, she got the salmon dish). The burger was flavorful but her dish was on the small size for the price and was just fair. Dinner gets 3-stars because although dinner was ok, dessert was bad. I ordered a s'more type sundae which was described as homemade graham crackers, marshmallow, and then toffee ice cream and bananas with butterscotch. The graham cracker was hard as a rock and the ice cream had MAJOR freezer burn. I love my desserts so if that is messed up it ruins a meal for me. I wouldn't come back again and I wouldn't recommend it, the staff was just too nice for me to say it while I was there. read more

Was visiting my daughter who goes to school in Belmont and was really excited about this place. That quickly turned into a disappointment when my fiancé ordered a drink and then our sever comes back 15 mins later to say the bar is too busy to make it. Really? What kind of service is that? Then my soup came out luke warm and my other app which took forever (crab cakes) came out and were cold. My fiancé's app was the baked Mac n cheese which was actually pretty good. Perhaps it's my own fault for having returned to this restaurant after a bad experience a year ago, but I guessed because it continues to get the attention of certain elites that our experience must have been an anomaly. It wasn't. Once again, everything was simply horrible, both food and service. My wife's appetizer of crab fritters was inedible and had to be exchanged for a salad. My appetizer of foie gras was equally awful but I ate it anyway. Then came the main course of ravioli which seemed nice on the menu; I ate it because I was hungry and frustrated, but was then sick during the night. My wife was smart enough to just skip the main course. Finally, the desserts; I had an overpriced creme brulee (how can you screw that up?) and she had a something that turned out to be a slice of cooked pear and a teaspoon of sherbet. Shrug. As for the service, the waiter interrupted our conversation again and again with preening and obnoxious attention in an effort to seem french. Meanwhile, diners around us were dressed in shorts and sweatshirts as if they had come directly from the beach, and in the next room there was a table full of unsupervised pre-teens laughing and carrying on loudly. The atmosphere was enough to ruin even our enjoyment of the bottle of wine. read more

We used to like Gallery, sit at the bar a couple glasses of wine, roam through the menu. The service on this last stop was so awful, I don't think I'll be back. Complaining staff were stumped be a drink because it wasn't on their menu (a skinny margarita?). A speciality cocktail on the menu arrives in the hipster champagne glass but it's only half full. Seriously, $14 bucks for 2 oz of a drink? I know this isn't Charleston or even Asheville, but the art of cocktails sure doesn't exist here. $35 bucks, two lousy drinks, we were outta there! read more

I would really like to give them 5 stars but there are just a few issues. One - this is suburban Charlotte. I get it - it's a very high end hotel - but the dinner menu is just a bit TOO eclectic. I mean really - crystallized basil ?, plantation quail ? Minted garden pea & hemp salad, honeyed Malbec, bruleed lardo ???? I am a foodie, I love food, cook food and have worked in (high end) food service my whole life and I understand about three words in that last item! With that said - they get 7 stars !! on service. Breakfast and Lunch menus are more approachable and the best damned sweet potato fries I've ever had (Went to a BBQ place down the road and theirs don't even compare!) I took Hubby to brunch here for his birthday. After 7 months of shorts and sweat pants, we wanted to dress up a little. I included that it was his bday on the reservation. From the time we arrived until we left the service was excellent and he was wished happy bday by each staff person that interacted with us. We ordered the flapjacks and daily french toast. They were both perfect. The spiced pears were baked into the thickest french toast I've ever eaten and topped with tasty granola. The chicken sausage was nicely seasoned and the cheese grits stole the show! They were the best grits I have ever eaten - full of butter and cheese. Larkrisha was our server and she took the absolute best care of us, gave us great insight on dishes, and was the perfect ray of sunshine to top off our experience. Gallery is one of the few hotel restaurant with food that is actually good! I sampled several items, as I came with a group of other ladies who all ordered different items. I then returned the following week with family. Items samples/ordered: Sweet potato hash-small bits of sweet potatoes sautéed up with onions and red peppers-had a great taste. Petite Belgian Waffle-3 mini waffles served with pears on the side. The waffles were sweet and fluffy, the pears were cut into cute mini-circles, but were not otherwise memorable. Shrimp and Grits-The grits were creamy and rich, and like most other grits, these did not require salt. The shrimp atop the grits and the bits of sausage in the dish were full of flavor, but the temperature of the dish was only lukewarm on both visits. Calamari-served with a tasty aioli dipping sauce-ask for all rings when your order-my girlfriend had 1/2 a bowl of tentacles in the bottom of the bowl, which she did not like. I requested all rings on my 2nd visit, and the waitress accommodated my request. Apple French Toast-I am not a fan of French toast, but this one was good, although it was not warm at all. They offer several cocktails, mimosas, etc, but you cannot order before 12 noon on Sunday. The drink menu was presented on an IPAD type device which you can scroll through, which was cool. They also serve a variety of (cold) bread, muffins, and biscuits with breakfast, but at least the butter was soft and spreadable. They offer a trio of jellies/jams/apple butter, which are fun to pass around the table and share. Service can range from friendly to spotty-on my 2nd visit, we had to specifically request our jam/jelly trio, and also had to request our to-go boxes twice. We had a group of eight adults and 4 children, with reservations. The evening started off really good, with cocktails in the Lobby, which we served ourselves.($150) Once called to our table, we ordered Appetizers and Bottles of Wine. Then, we ordered entrees, Apps were served and then things hit a wall. We sat for an hour and a half, drinking more wine & water and waiting for food. After an hour and a half, I walked to the kitchen serving area and asked if we could get our food; explained it had been an hour and a half and we were getting ready to leave, as it was close to 10:00 p.m. The food was served about 5 minutes later. The Tuna dishes were very raw and cold, the Pork Chops had been cooked, lost most of the their heat, and served in cold dishes. Our birthday person and her husband had ordered the Tomahawk Steak, which was the meal that our server kept saying was delaying our order, and when served, it was semi-warm, well done on one side and rare on the other. We complained to management and they took the all the tuna off the bill. Pay'ed a bill of about $750 plus 20%, ($150) so the waiter didn't get stiffed. To sum it all up.....We spent $1,050 to $1,100 for an evening of sub par food, with meal preparation beyond slow, and presentation temperatures unheard of in an establishment this price point and caliber. Charlotte contains many other establishments that far exceed the food quality and consistent delivery of quality preparation. read more

Love, love this restaurant. First off you would think situated in a Resort Hotel would be a turn off, absolutely not!! You can dine two ways at The Gallery rest. You can eat in fine dining Style with your typical upscale white Table cloths or if you have a toddler that is semi behaved and can be controlled with crayons or an iPhone :-) then the more relaxed pub like setting will do just fine. On the relaxed pub side there is a small bar and several tv's placed around. The food is standard but tasty and always fresh and flavorful!! The French onion soup is the best in Clt- ties with Georgges Brasserie! The portions are perfect and not chauncy! If you are ever looking for a relaxing, not snooty great place to go that serves your simple fare The Gallery is the place! The service is always superb with no Additudes on the side. Check out the menu- I Promise you shouldn't have regrets! The atmosphere is always very quiet, so dont go looking to people watch- we like Going for a weekend brunch or lunch- you can't beat the quality compared to so many other overpriced dives in The city! read more

Just had Valentine's Day dinner with my husband and our 3rd visit to the Gallery was not as expected. I ordered the Filet with local Sweet Fingerlings and Chargrilled Brussel Sprouts but there was nothing "chargrilled" and instead they were over cooked and mushy. The best thing was the Milk Chocolate Creme Brûlée. I had a meeting at the Ballantyne Hotel this week and met my team there in the morning for breakfast and also returned for lunch in the afternoon. I will start by saying it is very well decorated, well lit and welcoming. Prices are about what you would expect for the location and the service was attentive and friendly. Breakfast, to be honest the food could have been better. I ordered the California Omlette which had avacado, tomato, onion and I think turkey. I say "I think" because the omlette was "OK" and I just don't remember anything about it, other than it was bland. The breakfast potatoes were served cold. The coffee there is wonderful however. Lunch was a complete 180 degree turnaround. Started off with a popover which was great, almost "eggy" inside and a nice start to the meal. I ordered the shaved leg of lamb sandwich which was quite possibly, one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I am a huge fan of well cooked lamb, and this was dead on. Shaved leg of lamb, some sort of hummus on a nice roll. The lamb was nicley cooked and flavorful with just the right amount of fat. The fries were well cooked and of good consistency, which is important. So many times restaurants have great sandwiches and crappy fries which takes away from the meal. The lunch experience will make me think about adding Gallery to my rotation of places to have lunch when I'm in Ballantyne. read more

My husband brought me here for my birthday. Wow, it was a terrible experience. The bar next door was extremely loud, the service was non- existent, the food was expensive, lukewarm, disappointing, and forgettable. Then to top it off for my Birthday they brought a "Happy Anniversary" cake to the table!!! PRETTY TACKY, PRETTY CARELESS from a supposedly 5 star establishment. This is my second time dining at Gallery Restaurant and all I can say is WOW!!!!!! Food was delicious and quality was on point BUT the main star of our experience was our server-BILLY! I was a Hotel F&B Supervisor and Billy for me is the best example of an "Amazing Server who went above and beyond". As soon as we got seated, he gave us an excellent service right away and First Impression is very very important in restaurant service. He even walked us through the menu, gave us his suggestions, and even told us a lot more info about each course! So impressive!! The amuse bouche and the extra macarons made us even happier! He checked on us every once in a while, making sure we are good and gave us privacy as well-good timing with everything!!! When we're done eating, he even walked with us by the door and told us more info about the hotel-I'm not only satisfied but DELIGHTED!! I wish I had an employee like him because oh my Gosh, he is a great asset to a company! Would definitely look forward to have him as our server again on our next visit. Quite possibly one of the BEST places for an upscale breakfast in Charlotte. Every time I come here the service is unbelievable, the portions fantastic and the food extremely good. Party of six, reservation for Sunday brunch at 1pm.. The Gallery was informed this was a special birthday occasion upon their request. Seated promptly and drink orders taken. Four ordered mimosas and per wait staff recommendation decided on "full bottle champagne and two types of juices for table" placed order for two of this option with orange pineapple and cranberry juices. One guest ordered a bottle of beer and specifically requested the bottle after wait staff offered a glass. Coffees and teas were brought to table and wait staff left table to get "pastries and drinks from bar". She returned with a glass of beer, placed it next to guest and disappeared. A new gentleman appeared at table with 2 bottles of champagne, opened one bottle and poured the first glass full (no juice in sight) when he came to pour my glass I was about to stop him from filling all the way and ask about said juice when he cut me off mid word and said "don't worry I am not going to spill it " and walked on. Another 10 minutes go by and we have to ask the bartender if he can find our waitress. More time goes by with nothing on table except warm champagne and menus. We are not a group of complainers but with four of us working in fine dining for decades this was getting comical. As we were trying to lighten the mood and continue with the celebration staff started filling the silverware storage directly adjacent to our table, they were not doing this delicately to say the least. At this point our waitress appears again and I ask her if we could have the juices for our drinks to which she blankly stares at me as if she has no idea what I am talking about. I had to literally explain to her what she had suggested we order. I can understand if the restaurant was full but we were the only table in the entire area and there was plenty of staff coverage on the floor. So much so that we had asked five others for help. Another beer was ordered along with the juice and instead of leaving to gather what we had ordered (30 minutes) she asked if we " knew what we wanted". My husband had to request that she go to the bar and we would order once she returned. At this point we were beyond mind blown but it gets better. She returned with a min carafe of orange juice and placed on table walked away. Returns later with a bottle of beer-yay. Ask again for the other juices, she asked again if we were ready to order and disappeared into kitchen . At this point one entire bottle of champagne is empty and we have to ask a passerby to find staff to open second bottle (they are not in ice buckets near table but in corner near service station). He is happy to help us with this request only for the waitress to run over and stop him telling him we did not want the next bottle. So much confusion...she places our remaining juices ( in cream pitchers) on table and places our second opened bottle on table. We order our food and one guest asks for a simple cocktail, was told she didn't know and would get the cocktail menu for him. At this point we couldn't remember if we had placed our food order. Food is brought to table and as we are about to start eating the first gentleman who had poured the champagne walks by and plops a warm empty ice bucket on table puts our champagne in it and says "you might want to keep this cold". Umm well yes in fact we would but your staff placed it on the table and it is already warm so some ice in the bucket would be great thanks. Dirty cappuccino and coffee cups, used plates all piled up on the table, the ONE thing that was cleared was a champagne glass that someone was using. We had to yet AGAIN flag down a different staff member to ask for a new glass considering we still had a entire bottle. Server never returned with cocktail menu we had to request again. This was definitely an experience and we are all dumbfounded as to how management didn't notice we were having trouble considering it was not busy in the least and we had been flagging staff down for two hours. If you made it through this entire post imagine how long our brunch felt. No pastries,bread, mention of birthday, not one person asked if we needed anything or how everything was. We did tip well, as I previously mentioned we know how hard it is to do this type of job but it was definitely not earned. Absolutely felt like we were putting this place out by paying our hard earned money in exchange for their service. This is the opposite of get what you pay for. read more

Took an interviewee here for a business dinner tonight. Service was excellent; food subpar. We ladies had the bass and my hubs had the pasta. We had crispy artichokes and an orange beet salad to start. The artichokes were unimpressively prepared and the salad was so soaked in dressing that we couldn't enjoy the flavors. The bass, however, was perfectly caramelized. Unfortunately, even the chocolate torte left something to be desired. Do yourself a favor: there's lots of great restaurants in Charlotte; don't waste your money here. Caveat: hubs works locally and says breakfast and lunch items far surpass the dinner offerings. Don't know what others have experienced, but this place should consider hiring a new chef. read more

The menu was a bit out-there and seemed like it was trying too hard to be upscale (WTH is tat soi?), but ultimately the entrees were approachable - BBQ sandwich, burger, caesar salad. I thought the prices were a bit high for such basic fare - despite their attempt to "elevate" our experience, a burger is still a burger. Our server seemed a bit overwhelmed with 7 of us, even though the restaurant was not full. The drink orders took forever and then came out wrong, which did not bode well for the rest of our meal. However the food came quickly and everyone's dish was perfectly presented. I was pleasantly surprised. Portions are decent for lunch. The complimentary bread basket was a big hit (crusty white bread, some kind of cheesy focaccia, and seed bread with sunflower seeds maybe...? yum!).
