Had visited the former Gambi's in Somerset and heard they moved to Sparks and wanted to check out the new digs. We went for a late birthday lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the place was almost empty but it was the day of the Sparks Christmas parade so that could have been the reason. The restaurant is right next to the Best Western Hotel off of West McCarran and interstate 80. The restaurant has a pirate motif. There is a huge bar in the middle of the room and tables and lounges and booths all around. The place is huge. It is well decorated and very stylish. Our waitress met us immediately and gave us menus and a table. She was very helpful, informative and friendly. We had had the spaghetti previously and wanted to try and see if it was still as goodand it was. For $16 plus an upcharge for three large meatballs, we were served a large bowl of spaghetti. The sauce is delicious. The spaghetti is smothered in Parmesan cheese and herbs freshly chopped. Just amazing. I think I ate about a third of it and took the rest home. We also ordered the homemade, warm Italian bread. It is served with butter and also with oil and balsamic vinegar. A glass of Cabernet complimented our meal and we passed on dessert because we were full but found out that dessert is free on your birthday so my friend was able to get a cheesecake to go. You can choose from a vast menu of desserts. Their signature dessert is a Kahlua chocolate cake but it was still in the oven so it was not available on our visit. I really like the ambience of the former restaurant better. Maybe because it was smaller and more intimate but I can understand why they moved. This restaurant is large and modern and bright and open and can accommodate so many more people. They also have the bar in a separate room and now they serve breakfast. I honestly don't recall if they had breakfast at the former location. The prices are a bit on the higher side but the portions are large, the food is delicious and it's homemade. ..What the heck was that? We dined here on January 18th and it was an absolute mess. The calamari was mediocre with a tiny portion for $12. I ordered a steak medium and it came out well done, chewy, and bitter from burnt bits--I had to saw through it. The mushroom sauce tasted like raw alcohol. Nowhere near worth $42. Service was even worse. The waiter (black-rim glasses, buzz cut) clearly didn't care to take care of us, likely because there was an automatic gratuity for a large party. He didn't listen, cut us off, and we constantly had to repeat ourselves. One friend tried to order a burger while pointing at the menu and was told they don't serve the lunch menu at dinner--except the exact same burger is on the dinner menu. When we pointed to that instead, suddenly it was fine. The check was the final joke. We were obviously done, the restaurant was nearly empty, and we still had to ask twice. 20 minutes passed by. I went to see where he was, and he was laughing and chatting it up with a coworker as if he had nothing to do. And when the check finally arrived... it was the wrong one. My gf and I stumbled upon this absolute must go to place. The food is outrageously phenomenal. They make from an old family recipe the best ragu and marinara i have ever had. The meatballs are life changing. The tiramisu is incredible. And best of all, most all of the dishes and desserts are made in-house. This is the best Italian food I have ever had in a restaurant. I chose this restaurant for my Mother's Day dinner. Ugh, what a disappointment! We had a reservation for 5:00 p.m. We were seated right away by a not so friendly hostess. The service started good with drinks and an order of bread, but quickly went downhill. We had ordered the Calamari appetizer at the same time, but that took much longer to come out. Also, we had to keep tracking our server down just to order additional drinks and then once we finally ordered, had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get them. The food was also underwhelming. I really don't understand all of the 5 star Yelp reviews. I followed recommendations and had the Chicken Marsala. The Chicken was lacking in flavor and was actually not very hot. My daughter had the Lobster Ravioli and thought it was good, but not great. My husband had the Shrimp Scampi, which was bland. It was literally 5 Shrimp with some Pasta. We should've ended our dinner experience at this point, but I heard the word "house-made" and decided their desserts might be worth a try, so we ordered a Crème Brûlée and a Tiramisu. We also wanted Espresso, but apparently the Espresso machine is not working. Again, we ended up waiting a ridiculous amount of time for our desserts. I'm talking over 30 minutes. If I would've known it was gonna take that long, we would've had dessert somewhere else where I could also have an Espresso. We checked out and I asked our server for a box for the remainder of my dessert. I waited a reasonable amount of time, but finally had to ask someone else for a box so we could leave. I think we are pretty understanding people when it comes to unexpected things happening, but this was a constant lack and disregard to provide good customer service. I ordered take out for my wife and I and we could not have been more disappointed with both the quality and quantity of food for the price we paid. We ordered a $5 bread basket that consisted of a tiny half a baguette that amounted to 4-5 small slices of bread. We had the stuffed mushrooms that were basically just filled with sausage, not enough cream cheese or bread crumbs to balance it out. They were out of the $39 giant scallop risotto so I settled for scrimp scampi ($24) instead. It was okay- a bit too spicy for my taste. And definitely had way too much fresh garlic which overpowered the scrimp. My wife ordered lobster ravioli which was the worst item of all. The entire entree had 2 ravioli! 2! And a couple scrimp and a some lobster pieces. And the sauce was weirdly sweet making the lobster basically inedible. Finally the crème brûlée was $8 for what was basically a silver dollar sized serving. All-in-all, Gambi's was overpriced and under-portioned with mediocre quality food at best. Disappointing experience -- not worth the hype. We had a party of 7. It took 18 minutes just to get our first round of waters, even after ordering drinks. Meanwhile, the servers were openly arguing about who was supposed to bring what. Ten more minutes passed before drinks finally arrived and honestly, the only thing that went right the entire visit. Food orders were taken, but 20 minutes later, only part of our table was served. One order was completely missing. We finished eating while that person waited awkwardly for their meal to show up. Later, when we ordered dessert, the check was brought out before the dessert arrived. The bill itself had errors, and we had to have it corrected while still waiting on the dessert the entire time. Despite the menu being mostly Italian, basics like Parmesan cheese weren't even offered until we asked. The food itself was incredibly underwhelming. The Alfredo tasted like heavy cream with minimal flavor -- maybe good enough for a fast food joint's highlight item, but nowhere near the standard you'd expect from a place with this many positive reviews. Throughout the meal, getting any kind of service required chasing down the staff, who seemed irritated every time we needed something even as basic as a water refill. Bottom line: between the disorganized staff, mediocre food, and dismissive service, there's absolutely no reason for us to return, even if they offered a free meal. We started off with a round of cocktails and a second round of wine. My favorite appetizer was the chicken Alfredo quesadillas. The Laredo's was a homemade sauce, so it wasn't too cheesy or salty. Next, we had the beet salad to share. Usually beets are a bit too vinaigrette for me, but this time it was sweet and pleasant. For dinner I had the homemade lasagna and stingy ray pizza. We were greeted by Bryant (host-server-jack-of-all-trades) upon arrival and he really elevated the whole experience with his amazing energy and charisma. The food was very good with decent price points and I'll be back to try more of the menu. There is also a piano and I hope next time there is someone there playing! Enough privacy but not isolated. Our friends ordered calamari. I'm not a fan of fried calamari. I think that most of the time they are flavorless and chewy. However it was not the case at Gambis. The calamari were crispy, light and full of flavor. The homemade sauce was fingerpicking. The Cesar salad and chicken Marsala did not disappoint. I wish I had a more positive review. I would not recommend this place for brunch. The restaurant has a cool vibe with the decor and space. The food and expediency was lackluster. I booked a reservation for a party of 30. There was another party of 30 there was well. Despite these large parties this place was no where near full capacity. It took over 2 hours for our food to start trickling out for our group alone. My omelette came with cheese slices on top of it and it was cold. My toast was cold and dry. No butter or other condiments provided and I did not receive my side of avocado. From others in my party: the avocado toast was some sort of avocado like mixture rather than fresh avocado, a hot latte was served cold, cold pancakes. It took about an hour for our entire party to get their food and we had to keep telling the staff about missing meals. We were told that our tickets could be divided up by player and parents. When it was time to pay, we had to line up and insist on helping them sort out the bill because after 3 hours we had to leave. I gave two stars because the staff was nice. Excellent calamari. Very nice lasagna and red sauce. My wife loved her chicken marsala. Really nice tiramisu too. The Caesar salad was good also, but there was too much dressing. Great atmosphere and service - Obed was a star. Chef Spencer came out a couple times to make sure all was well. Gambi's new location in the Best Western Plus off McCarran & Nugget Blvd. is a hidden gem with lots of parking. No signage that we could see but as soon as you enter the hotel you will see where to go. The restaurant is very spacious with lots of tables and high tops including a full bar. Our waiter Alexis was also the bartender and very friendly and helpful. He served my husband a Revision IPA draft beer and for me the best vodka martini. We shared a mixed salad and the chicken parm sandwich, both very good. Our only disappointment was not seeing the co-owner and chef, Spencer. We will definitely be back to try the dinner menu. Also noted: multiple TV's for watching sports, etc. The Bones (a part of the restaurant) also offers karaoke and live music. A must go-to for fun and entertainment. read more

Man, I didn't take a picture because I wasn't expecting much. I done f'd up A-A-Ron. The food was great, the waiter was fun and the chef, from what I was told, was only 20 years old. I started with Calimari to share with my daughter. It was tender inside and crisp outside. The aioli it came with was tasty as well as the marinara, but the aioli stole the show. For the entree, I got the Catch of the Day. It was swordfish with a mango salsa, served with risotto and asparagus. The fish was outstanding and the salsa complimented it well. I won't hold back when I say, "I finally got a perfectly cooked fish dish in Reno." Yes it was actually, Sparks. The risotto was simple, but with flavor that surprised you. It had a basic creamy look, which worked well on a black plate, served with the fish just overlapping with the bright mango salsa on top, then 3 tender broiled asparagus. I tried my wife's lasagna and my daughter's pizza. Their take on the lasagna was delicious. It was made in a cast iron skillet, so your dish was hot all the way to the last bite. The pizza dough was perfect. I'll go back to try my own pizza, as my daughter chose her own toppings and I think it'd be better if she hadn't made changes to it. I forgot to order soup. I was so happy with my meal, and full. However, I liked everything so much, I wanted to try the soup. For desert, I had a cup of cream of onion soup. Wow, was it good. It was like a creamy French onion soup, but it also had a flavor of some browned butter in there that made it next-level. I was initially just going to get a burger, because I didn't expect much. Now I'm going back to see how great that burger has to be. Matt, our server, was fun but not annoying. He was funny and playful and probably a dude you'd enjoy having a beer with after shift. Do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the Pirate Vincenzo Gambi, and the decor will make sense. If not, it feels a bit weird. We had such great experiences at Gambi when it was in Somerset. We were happy to hear they were moving closer to us - in a kinda off the beaten path location. We walked in and heard beautiful piano music playing... WHAT? I looked over and it was just a player piano - but it was amazingly calming, pleasant, really started the evening out well. The decor is themed - but gorgeous and warm and fun. We sat at the bar to catch the game - LOTS of TVs everywhere. I don't remember TVs in the old location - but welcome .. at least for us. The bartender/server (Jake?) was super attentive and helpful. We ordered two pre-dinner cocktails. Both were very well made. WE ordered the arancini (rice balls). Full of flavor - a little smaller than I'm used to but yummy. Then we chose the beet salad - which was AMAZING! Seriously, I would go back just for this salad.
