Finally got to check out the new location, which is waaaay closer to my house and extremely convenient to get to being that it is right off the freeway. I loved it! Super spacious and Dave decorated it so well. Unfortunately the Bones is a fun party room now instead of a cigar bar but the menu is bigger and the hours are longer. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner. No more karaoke but DJ trivia is on Thursdays 7-9 and piano night on Fridays from 4-8 (if I remember correctly). The bread is worth the money. So very good. Really enjoyed the veal ravioli I got. It was a bit much on the umami flavor for me but I'd still come back for more! The cannoli is the best cannoli in town. Yeah, I said it. It's spiced cream and filled to order so it is crispy and not soggy like most places. All the wines are from Lido Bay, the owner Dave owns it and honestly I haven't had a bad glass from them ever. The staff is lovely and very kind. Dave and Chef Spencer are some of my favorite people. Always friendly and accommodating. They really know how to build community. Tried out Gambi's new location. Wasn't very crowded on a friday night so was seated right away. They did a great job with the decor making it feel its own vs. as a diner connected to hotel. Service was very good and attentive. Drinks were yummy as well! The food came out in good sized portions which is always nice as some italian places serve too small of portions in my opinion. My husband paid 40.00 for the scallop risotto. He only got 3.5 scallops and the risotto was watery. He left hungry and disappointed. Super cute restaurant attached to a Best Western in a location that will not attract random diners. There were only a few tables on a Sunday night and we were sat right away. It took 15 minutes for someone to come over so I ordered food and water at the same time. We ordered a bread basket, 2 apps, soup, a side dish and an entree. Yes, this is an abnormal way to order but our group just wanted to share everything that sounded good. It took 40 minutes to start getting food and when it did arrive, I had to ask for utensils. Garlic fries and mozzarella sticks shows up first, both delicious. Next up was the tomato bisque that was extremely salty and the clam dip which was good chips were really greasy. Next up fettuccini alfredo which was the best dish served. The bread basket showed up last? I wanted to refuse it as at that point it didn't make sense. Walking in, it's a bit dark, creepy and bizarre as everything is pirate bound; however, Gambi's is by far the cleanest, most comfortable restaurant I have ever experienced. Our Server, Bryant, was a little busy with a convention; however, he was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. He made good recommendations and was very friendly. We really appreciated his recommendations and his experience with the restaurant. Plus, his enthusiasm:) We ordered the fish and chips which were phenomenal! Fresh, lightly breaded and perfectly seasoned. I also went with the potato puffs which were similar to home-fries but light and airy. Located right next to the best western on nugget avenue. The inside of the restaurant? What a vibe! Loved the layout and the decor. We got fried calamari and tomato soup to start and they are definitely shareable appetizers. Ordered gnocchi and you get to choose your sauce. I had it with Alfredo which was tasty but very filling for my liking. If you're a cheese lover, this is down your alley! Also got the New York steak. Classic. Simple. No complaints. Did not that great of a service. Saw our server when they took our order and when they gave us our food. Didn't check in on us in between. There was a four top next to us who came in after and their server checked in on them several times. Had a reservation at 10:15 AM. Walked in - no one greeted us at all. Walked around the place to try and find someone to no avail. Found the buffet where a mad customer grossed no eggs or potatoes he said he had not seen anyone either. Walked to a table of 8 asked if they had been waited on one person had food in front of him others had none. They all thought there as a waiter who maybe was also the cook. We went here for Valentines this Saturday and asked if we could be seated they said if you didn't have a reservation they could not accommodate us which I understood because it's Valentines day. So I asked if we could sit at the bar they daid yes go ahead so we seated ourselves and they said you can order food there. We weren't in a huge hurry just enjoying the night. We loved the decor and then once we were ready we ordered. We got our drinks right away the bartender was nice and personable and got us our drinks very quickly. Our food came out very fast and it was delicious me and my partner enjoyed it. The prices were a bit high so he choose a pizza and I got the Tortellini Alfredo fresh parm on top very tasty. I wish I had a more positive review. I would not recommend this place for brunch. The restaurant has a cool vibe with the decor and space. The food and expediency was lackluster. I booked a reservation for a party of 30. There was another party of 30 there was well. Despite these large parties this place was no where near full capacity. It took over 2 hours for our food to start trickling out for our group alone. My omelette came with cheese slices on top of it and it was cold. My toast was cold and dry. No butter or other condiments provided and I did not receive my side of avocado. From others in my party: the avocado toast was some sort of avocado like mixture rather than fresh avocado, a hot latte was served cold, cold pancakes. It took about an hour for our entire party to get their food and we had to keep telling the staff about missing meals. We were told that our tickets could be divided up by player and parents. When it was time to pay, we had to line up and insist on helping them sort out the bill because after 3 hours we had to leave. I gave two stars because the staff was nice. However they were sorely understaffed, ill prepared and the food was mediocre at best. read more

We really enjoyed our date night at this place! It's unassuming, because it's in a Best Western, but give it a try because its really fun/tasty. Gambi's totally takes you out of the typical Reno eatery options you have elsewhere. Daniel, our server, was so welcoming and friendly with an upbeat attitude! He suggested some popular items folks order regularly and had an attentive level of service that was comfortable for newbies like us. Atmosphere: Caribbean, pirates, reggae music, seating for large parties, lots of attention to detail, big furniture with character. Menu: Italian-forward but also offers lots of familiar favorites and a Buccaneer's' menu for the kiddos too. Food: Absolutely shocked us how delicious it was! They were out the clam dip, so now we have to go back for that.. Captain's mushrooms - just the right amount of spice, served with not too much cheese, in a buttery sauce. I wanted more, but that's an appetizer doing it's job. Penne ala Vodka - out of this world with tiny bits of veggies in the sauce, shaved parm, bacon in the sauce and perfectly garlicky. It was actually even better the next day (will order this again!). Linguine Scampi - good serving of shrimp in a lemony butter garlic sauce which was really light. Mermaid Tale - It was a good mix of sweet/sour. A bit pricey, so I wouldn't order it again. But its good for the theme, had to try it! Draft beers $5 - great selection of those and bottled, and the bar was beautiful. Cannoli - didn't have the ricotta texture I love, was much creamier. Kahlua chocolate cake - sized like a small bundt and covered in a caramel like sauce and ice cream. Rich and well sized to share. Not overly sweet! Walked in here with my son because we were staying next door at the Best Western. I had zero expectations of a restaurant attached to a Sparks NV motel being anything better than ordinary--but lemme tell you, this place was legit. I ordered a steak medium and it came out well done, chewy, and bitter from burnt bits--I had to saw through it. The mushroom sauce tasted like raw alcohol. Nowhere near worth $42. Service was even worse. The waiter (black-rim glasses, buzz cut) clearly didn't care to take care of us, likely because there was an automatic gratuity for a large party. He didn't listen, cut us off, and we constantly had to repeat ourselves. One friend tried to order a burger while pointing at the menu and was told they don't serve the lunch menu at dinner--except the exact same burger is on the dinner menu. When we pointed to that instead, suddenly it was fine. The check was the final joke. We were obviously done, the restaurant was nearly empty, and we still had to ask twice. 20 minutes passed by. I went to see where he was, and he was laughing and chatting it up with a coworker as if he had nothing to do. And when the check finally arrived... it was the wrong one. Had visited the former Gambi's in Somerset and heard they moved to Sparks and wanted to check out the new digs. We went for a late birthday lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the place was almost empty but it was the day of the Sparks Christmas parade so that could have been the reason. The restaurant is right next to the Best Western Hotel off of West McCarran and interstate 80. The restaurant has a pirate motif. There is a huge bar in the middle of the room and tables and lounges and booths all around. The place is huge. It is well decorated and very stylish. Our waitress met us immediately and gave us menus and a table. She was very helpful, informative and friendly. We had had the spaghetti previously and wanted to try and see if it was still as goodand it was. For $16 plus an upcharge for three large meatballs, we were served a large bowl of spaghetti. The sauce is delicious. The spaghetti is smothered in Parmesan cheese and herbs freshly chopped. Just amazing. I think I ate about a third of it and took the rest home. We also ordered the homemade, warm Italian bread. It is served with butter and also with oil and balsamic vinegar. A glass of Cabernet complimented our meal and we passed on dessert because we were full but found out that dessert is free on your birthday so my friend was able to get a cheesecake to go. You can choose from a vast menu of desserts. Their signature dessert is a Kahlua chocolate cake but it was still in the oven so it was not available on our visit. I really like the ambience of the former restaurant better. Maybe because it was smaller and more intimate but I can understand why they moved. This restaurant is large and modern and bright and open and can accommodate so many more people. They also have the bar in a separate room and now they serve breakfast. I honestly don't recall if they had breakfast at the former location. The prices are a bit on the higher side but the portions are large, the food is delicious and it's homemade. My gf and I stumbled upon this absolute must go to place. The food is outrageously phenomenal. They make from an old family recipe the best ragu and marinara i have ever had. The meatballs are life changing. The tiramisu is incredible. And best of all, most all of the dishes and desserts are made in-house. This is the best Italian food I have ever had in a restaurant. Our server Yajaira (Yaya) was perfect, and the chef, Spencer, did an outstanding job. They both were warm and super friendly with great recommendations as to what to have. I chose this restaurant for my Mother's Day dinner. Ugh, what a disappointment! We had a reservation for 5:00 p.m. We were seated right away by a not so friendly hostess. Also, we had to keep tracking our server down just to order additional drinks and then once we finally ordered, had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get them. The food was also underwhelming. I really don't understand all of the 5 star Yelp reviews. I followed recommendations and had the Chicken Marsala. The Chicken was lacking in flavor and was actually not very hot. My daughter had the Lobster Ravioli and thought it was good, but not great. My husband had the Shrimp Scampi, which was bland. It was literally 5 Shrimp with some Pasta. We should've ended our dinner experience at this point, but I heard the word "house-made" and decided their desserts might be worth a try, so we ordered a Crème Brûlée and a Tiramisu. We also wanted Espresso, but apparently the Espresso machine is not working. Again, we ended up waiting a ridiculous amount of time for our desserts. I'm talking over 30 minutes. If I would've known it was gonna take that long, we would've had dessert somewhere else where I could also have an Espresso. We checked out and I asked our server for a box for the remainder of my dessert. I waited a reasonable amount of time, but finally had to ask someone else for a box so we could leave. I think we are pretty understanding people when it comes to unexpected things happening, but this was a constant lack and disregard to provide good customer service. I ordered take out for my wife and I and we could not have been more disappointed with both the quality and quantity of food for the price we paid. We ordered a $5 bread basket that consisted of a tiny half a baguette that amounted to 4-5 small slices of bread. We had the stuffed mushrooms that were basically just filled with sausage, not enough cream cheese or bread crumbs to balance it out. They were out of the $39 giant scallop risotto so I settled for scrimp scampi ($24) instead. It was okay- a bit too spicy for my taste. And definitely had way too much fresh garlic which overpowered the scrimp. My wife ordered lobster ravioli which was the worst item of all. The entire entree had 2 ravioli! 2! And a couple scrimp and a some lobster pieces. And the sauce was weirdly sweet making the lobster basically inedible. Finally the crème brûlée was $8 for what was basically a silver dollar sized serving. All-in-all, Gambi's was overpriced and under-portioned with mediocre quality food at best. The cheese tortellini made my mom sick, the pizza was not flavorful we ordered both the pepperoni and margarita, the spaghetti had meatballs that we didn't order but tasted nasty according to 3 people at our table, cesar salad had cold chicken bites and didn't have a pleasant taste either. Our waiter was less than attentive as he focused more on the large group ahead of us. I understand revews are very important being our family is in the food industry as well. Disappointing experience -- not worth the hype. We had a party of 7. It took 18 minutes just to get our first round of waters, even after ordering drinks. Meanwhile, the servers were openly arguing about who was supposed to bring what. Ten more minutes passed before drinks finally arrived and honestly, the only thing that went right the entire visit. Food orders were taken, but 20 minutes later, only part of our table was served. One order was completely missing. We finished eating while that person waited awkwardly for their meal to show up. Later, when we ordered dessert, the check was brought out before the dessert arrived. The bill itself had errors, and we had to have it corrected while still waiting on the dessert the entire time. Despite the menu being mostly Italian, basics like Parmesan cheese weren't even offered until we asked. The food itself was incredibly underwhelming. The Alfredo tasted like heavy cream with minimal flavor -- maybe good enough for a fast food joint's highlight item, but nowhere near the standard you'd expect from a place with this many positive reviews. Throughout the meal, getting any kind of service required chasing down the staff, who seemed irritated every time we needed something even as basic as a water refill. Bottom line: between the disorganized staff, mediocre food, and dismissive service, there's absolutely no reason for us to return, even if they offered a free meal. I wanted to try the new Italian restaurant with wine pairing in town. I went here with my bestie last week and we LOVEDD IT. The restaurant was created after their wine. My favorite was the mercenary. Our server, Obed, was very delighted and full of knowledge. We asked so many questions and he was full of recommendations. We started off with a round of cocktails and a second round of wine. My favorite appetizer was the chicken Alfredo quesadillas. The Laredo's was a homemade sauce, so it wasn't too cheesy or salty. Next, we had the beet salad to share. Usually beets are a bit too vinaigrette for me, but this time it was sweet and pleasant. For dinner I had the homemade lasagna and stingy ray pizza. The head chef, Spencer, came out to talk to us and explained each dish. We had such a wonderful experience learning about the creation of the wine and the passion behind each dish. Got our drinks at the first, ordered at the second, and served at the third. 70% of the food came out cold. No one got their food at the same time. Some people were eating while others waited another 30 minutes to get their food. Even when it came to paying there were lines to just help the staff find the bills. They were completely unorganized and not prepared for this type of event. Please plan smarter and only served if you are prepared.
