Unexpectedly outstanding Italian food. A group of eight of us pulled up at around 10pm as this was the only open local non-casino restaurant, and we were served very quickly and seamlessly, and everyone agreed the food was delicious, including the seafood which some of us were skeptical about. Our server was so over loaded. No bussers and no help for our server. I blame management. They need to schedule more help. Our orders were incomplete and a to go order was not even put in. Caesar salad was put in and not served but charged. No one knew how to do a refund. Desert took over a half hour and we received our check before it was even served. This rating is a collective rating on the many times I've tried this place. On NYE we ordered Gambi's to be delivered. I ordered Calamari, garlic bread, meatballs, mozzarella sticks, and bruschetta. The meatballs, calamari, and mozzarella sticks were decent, nothing stood out though. The bruschetta and garlic bread were inedible. I love garlic but the garlic was raw and way too overwhelming, which was not good. We threw those away. Total waste of money. I feel for the prices you pay everything should be pretty much on point, and it rarely ever is. Unfortunately for me Gambi's is a hit or miss, NYE was a miss. read more

We're new to the area and have been exploring all the fun restaurant options this city has to offer. Gambi's had amazing reviews and absolutely did not disappoint. We were a little hesitant when we first pulled up because of it's location in an industrial area off the freeway that looks like it might be part of the Best Western, but once we walked inside, we were so pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed date night. It felt upscale without being stuffy, and we were comfortable from the moment we walked in. We started with the calamari and Cadillac margaritas. The calamari was seasoned perfectly, and the homemade marinara had just the right amount of spice. The margaritas were strong but still smooth and tasty. For our main course, my husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the cioppino. We cleared our plates which is rare for me -- everything was that good. What really made the difference, though, was the service. Our wait staff gave us great recommendations, kept great conversation, and made sure our drinks were always full. We truly felt well taken care of. First thing we noticed was how spacious this place is! The tables are so big which is amazing. We're so used to having to switch in booths with our kids and this is the one place I actually felt comfortable eating plenty of room! The decor is awesome. Very fun decorations the place is not boring at all. Our server was so nice and attentive. Good came out fast. There is no kids menu so we had them split the spaghetti and meatballs and it was perfect size for them, big portions. I didn't like the wedge salad that much but everything else was DELICIOUS. It was horrific. The meal took a very long time l to get brought out, and when it did it tasted like cardboard and sadness. Barely anyone else in the restaurant for breakfast and yet it still took almost 2 hours for French toast. They also forgot about me multiple times throughout my experience. First of all, this place deserves a shot based on service alone. Everyone was friendly from the moment I walked through the door. You can tell they care about their customers. If you don't believe me, just look at their replies to other reviews on Yelp. They take time to write actual responses to the reviews which is more than most places will do. The food was nothing to complain about. From the bread basket appetizer to our Kahlua chocolate cake, every bite was delicious. We tried their pizza, lobster ravioli, and chicken parm. The portions were perfect for the price. The ambiance was pretty cool when we walked in. They have lots of cool decorative pieces that go along with the pirate theme. I will say that I felt that the music, though not bad, did not really fit with the theme of the restaurant. If I had one gripe, I would say that the entrance is confusing. The host stand is at the door coming from the hotel lobby. If you're not coming from the hotel, you feel kind of awkward walking in through the external door and have to walk through the restaurant to get to the host stand. read more

We went in for a late night dinner last night and were welcomed the moment we stepped in. Our server Obed was so nice and made sure to engage with us, constantly coming over to make sure everything tasted ok and we didn't need any refills. He started up conversations and was a really nice guy! The food was extremely good. I got the gnocchi with chicken and Alfredo sauce ($23+ $6 for the chicken) and it tasted hot and fresh. My meal filled me up very quickly and the Alfredo sauce was nice and creamy. My brother got chicken tenders ($11) and he said it was some of the best he's ever had haha and rated it a 10/10 in his personal opinion. My dad got a linguine pescatora and said it was delicious. However a few (I believe it was around 5 or so) of the mussels were closed so we told our waiter Obed and he greatly apologized and brought us out a new plate with several open mussels and bread on the house. We also got mango and strawberry gelato for dessert which was very delicious and tasted of real fruit. The environment was nice with the music not being too loud and we could have a conversation at room volume and still hear each other. The decor around the restaurant was so pretty and well placed as well as it really tied the pirate theme together. From the outside we were hesitant if this restaurant would be good due to the semi-odd placement of where it was located but from the second we stepped in we had a great time. Previously located in Somerset, but they moved to an unlikely location in Sparks on Nugget Blvd. adjacent to the old Nendels (Only important to us Sparks people). The Italian food rivals all of the other restaurants in the Reno/Sparks area. According to Yelp, they are not open yet, but they are (for the last two weeks). This 5-star restaurant is a hidden gem! Inside the Best Western Plus (55 E. Nugget Ave in Sparks) Gambi's reinvented itself after recently moving into their new digs. First of all, the new space is enormous - It's got the same pirate theme but several levels up - with lots of comfortable seating including booths and blue velvet chairs. A wrap around bar where you can watch your cocktail being served up along with several tv's throughout the entire restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week. We stopped in for lunch and I ordered the chicken parm sandwich with fries and my husband ordered the Captains omelet. Both were excellent! Our server, Bryant, was very attentive and checked on us several times. This is such a great spot - big portions and all items reasonable priced - such a fun place. Found this place randomly and was pleasantly surprised, the atmosphere was pirate themed, which we personally found very cool and unique, especially for the reno/sparks area. Our server joe was charismatic and engaged in our table. The bartender victoria made us some spectacular cocktails, and even when busy still checked in on us. I like scrambled but the eggs tasted like the powdered fake eggs that most hotels serve. If you only get eggs one way because they don't have real eggs then the server should have said something. I mean REALLY tiny and pricey. Not a good appetizer for sharing. Calamari were cooked nicely. Not too greasy and not overcooked. But again, for the price, the portion size could have been larger. The chicken Parmesan was excellent. Nice crunch on the breading, the large breast was moist and lots of cheese. Also tried the chicken Marsala, which was also nice. Good portion size and the chicken was nice and tender and the sauce was creamy and mushroom forward. I was told it would be served with asparagus (which I love), but it was served with zucchini instead. Still tasty, but I was a little disappointed. This was a cool find! The location threw me off for a moment but the experience did not disappoint. Gabby was our server and she was amazing, when we couldn't figure out what to choose her suggestions did not disappoint. I enjoyed that the cook even came out to check how everything was! Food was delicious, the vibes were unique and fun. Will definitely be back again! My only complaint would be the patrons, the gentleman at the table next to me was disgusting if the place wasn't busy I probably would have requested a new table and other people needed to stop being rude to servers when there were only two of them and they were killing it. We thankfully got seated without a reservation for two, however they failed to inform us that the server in our section had quit. So we waited for 40 minutes to have someone come by and ask for our order (no we didn't even get our drink order in at this point). We waited another 40 minutes to get our food AND drinks.... We understood that it wasn't our servers fault, who informed us she was working well after her shift had ended but it was rough. When we got our food, my pasta was cold and they didn't bring our app. To add salt to the wound, it was expensive and we had to leave to go get food afterwards as the servings were small (maybe would've been fine if we got our app and dessert....).
