The long-haired employee Tommy is absolutely the most rude person you could ever meet. Perhaps I misunderstood him, but he was extremely difficult to talk to and quite hostile. To those who plan on selling their vinyl records here: I would not recommend it. They will mark them up quite ridiculously beyond market price. This place is a joke. It's like a retro gaming store that dropped half of their space and stock so they could also sell vinyl and guitars. Totally stupid. So instead of a music or game store it's a halfass music and game store. The older lady who works there is the only nice, halfway decent employee that I've dealt with here. Everybody else is snide, unhelpful and smug, especially the snotty little daughter, such a snag. D-pad/retro right around the corner is a million times better than this place and they have a much bigger and better selection as well. I used to really like this place. They had cool games, vintage action figures and toys, plush and other collectibles. The people working there were knowledgeable and helpful. I haven't been back in since COVID but I was in the area this week and decided to stop by. When I walked in the guy behind the counter had his back to me and when he turned around he didn't have a mask on... not even incorrectly. Not even hanging around his neck. He didn't offer to put one on. I was looking for a polite way to leave when a family came in. The dad wasn't wearing a mask and not one word was said to him about it. I got out of there ASAP. I definitely won't be back until after COVID is over. read more

When the experience is so bad you almost have to pull over to write down your thoughts.. Mind you this whole experience was less than 2 minutes total.. Stopped in to browse and had one of the worst store experiences I've ever had. First and foremost the long-haired employee (or, only employee I suppose!) had NO mask on. Zero regard for safety! Violating COVID protocols is not ok. That's my first red flag. Instead of greeting me he interrogated me as to what I'm looking for. Not in a helpful way, in a rude, inconvenienced, "why the hell are you in here" sort of way. I said I was browsing, he didn't really accept that answer and kept repeatedly asking what I was there for.. He follows me and walks down to the far end of a long row of comics and figures. Mind you the store is totally empty except for us. I think, well he's at least giving space? Nah, dude grabbed a stack of figures and proceeds to barrel down the aisle we're standing in. I see he's about to knock me over like a bowling pin, so I nicely said "let me get out of your way here" instead he didn't notice, care or hear (honestly he seemed super high) and almost knocked me into my husband, who was also trying to back up because he noticed the dude charging toward us with no regard. No other customers, stared at us like we shouldn't have been there. Rude, just downright bizarre actually. I've never felt so unwelcome in any business in my life. I'm a collector of all the type things this store sells but I would never give them a single penny, nor go there ever again. Just go to DPad down the street! Why even be in business?! read more

If I could I would leave 0 stars first things first when I walked in the place was extremely disorganized, I was not greeted by any workers and it was kinda hard to get serviced, I went in to purchase some Pokémon cards and when I decided on the box I wanted there was no set price the lady had to call the owner for a price, anyways once I bought my box and got home to open it I noticed the booster packs were resealed and poorly resealed at that the Crimps Pokémon puts on their booster packs were faded and there was glue around where the crimps are supposed to be,not only that he put one of the code cards on the front when it was supposed to be in the back, like I said very poorly resealed. I will not be returning that's for sure and I advise anyone who buys cards here or wants to buy cards here don't, you won't pull anything or get anything of value. read more

This place is two doors down from the bar-arcade eight bit. I had a somewhat good experience here, selling some old Nintendo games that I no longer used the owner Barbara was very nice and helpful. She negotiated $10 more for my items. I think the guy with the long hair might be the only other person who works there besides the owner. I think I was given a fair price for what I sold. I will be gathering more items to sell and return to game xplosion. They seem to be very interested in buying vinyl at the moment. read more

Today the owners of game explosion for no reason 86"ed me from the store. Two other visits ago I mentioned I worked in the area at another game store. I had money to spend there and had bought games there previously. They were incredibly rude to me, told me to leave the store and started packing away the product I was looking to purchase. I am very involved in the comic and video game community and Game Explosion evidently has a bad rep of cheating customers, fighting with other owners in their area and general paranoid aggression towards the community. This place is god awful, I tried 3 times to go to this store during their " operating hours" and each time the store was closed. When I was finally able to catch them a day they were actually open the long hair male employee was unbelievably rude and acted like I was inconveniencing him by shopping in the store. The store was a mess, Smelled horrible, dirty and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and go to Dpad games less than a block away. The staff is friendly. Game Explosion Review - The name: I like it although it doesn't make justice to the view that founder Barbara Chase shared with me: a mini Comicon, a one-stop for the fans that visit such events and love sci-fi, anime, comics, videogames, music, cosplay, etc, plus a healthy dose of guitars on top. - The store is located in the main 2nd Street in Renton, the store is cozy and has one parking space in the street. It is full of awesomeness as soon as you step a foot inside and you feel like you want to own everything!!! I love that kid in a toy store feeling at 36 years old. - I have been helped by 3 staff, the founder/owner Barbara who is so passionate about keeping the variety in her store and is very kind, also the owner Nick (long hair) he is direct but is ok and Russell on a Saturday and he knew a lot about videogames. - Why they should go: it's a great store with great toys for all ages, I got: pop! Figurines, movies, videogames, Pokemon cards, game systems, and they have a really good rapport with clients. Go check them out. My experience has been possitive every time. read more

we went in to trade in games and left them with the long hair guy as the deal wasnt completed. got a phone call in the middle of the night of a family emergency where we need to fly out of state so we decided we wouldnt go through with the trade so we could sell our games for cash to buy plane tickets. we went in today deciding that we would still try and uphold half of a trade with the guy but that we needed our really expensive games back so we could go get cash for them. he refused to give us any of our games back and called the cops even telling us we needed to stand at the front of the store when we were walking around with our 2yr old daughter waiting for the police to arrive. the police showed up and told him it was a civil matter which I already knew and he still refused to give us our games back and the only way we could do anything was to take him to small claims clearly needing to leave the state it wasnt an option for us. if you do decide to trade games with him make sure you dont leave your games while the deal isnt done. we signed a paper saying he wouldnt touch the games until the deal was done and then he later told the police that the signature was for the deal which it wasnt. he stole our games and fucked us out of our money when we are already dealing with a bad situation. he even told us that if we were in such a bind we should sell more of our personal collection. when he did try to haggle with the police there we said we would gladly take money instead of the games and then he said he didnt have money while also offering to buy the games we would get in the trade off of us. this guy is a complete piece of shit that knew our games were expensive titles and refused to let them go. I dont suggest anyone going to this store and I'm sure hes going to ask for way over what our games are already worth. Save yourself the time and go to D-PAD it's right around the corner and their store is clean, employees are nice, their games are cheaper, and they offer better trades. read more

DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE PROFILED! My family came here to look around, and the long-haired man who was working that day (who is the epitome of all stereotypes of a video game store employee btw) told our group that if we're not buying anything that we need to get out. He also said he's not comfortable with big groups in the store (we had 8 people in our group). We asked to talk to the owner and the employee called her up but the owner refused to speak to us on the phone. He was rude, disrespectful, and even called the police! The police came and we left and all laughed at the situation. Though, I'm surprised this place is still in business because it seems this is a normal occurrence here. I'm all about supporting small, family businesses, but please do not support this place. Buy on eBay or any of the other great stores in Washington that sell similar products, but do not buy here! read more
