Great experience! I got in just before the lunch crowd, and my server was exceptional! She offered flat or sparkling, made suggestions on the menu, and got my order out immediately. With only 3 tables seated, nothing to brag about? Then the room filled up and she still kept that same experience going to the full restaurant, pretty much by herself. Even through her mask, you can tell she's serving with a smile. Food. My ink pasta was well above expectations; good sauce, slightly briny, good balance. Decor was very charming. Favorite restaurant in Spokane. The pasta is phenomenal. We're from Seattle and talked to the waiter, found out he used to be the pasta chef from Altura! All of the pasta is handmade, as are the cocktail shrubs. Several of the herbs are picked from the bartender's farm. There is a lot of care, detail, attention and creativity given to the food and drink menu here. Gander is unlike any other dining experience in Spokane. Prix fixe menu for the evening included first course appetizers, then pasta followed by the entree special. The choices were outstanding as preparation is truly fine dining style. We enjoyed complimentary Prosecco as we waited for service as staff was considerably overworked. Choice of appetizers included the shrimp pictured and also a lamb terrine or fresh spring vegetables. The second, pasta course featured a white veal ragu or mushroom tortelloni. Featured course was a choice of a beef loin or duck breast. A small taste of smoked mussels followed the appetizer and a refreshing palate cleanser after the pasta. Oh, and a mascarpone cheese cake dessert. Descriptions are rather pedestrian when compared to the preparation and presentation. An absolute must for a special occasion. First restaurant experience as Covid protocols are being adjusted. All staff wore masks and some were also gloved during service. read more

Went for dinner for my 40th birthday, clearly this was an off night. Don't want to drag this out, so I will hit the main points. 1-came in may and the menu had way more options, this night was limited to two entrees? We were able to get the new york if we ordered the chef's menu, pretty disappointing when it is an ice cube size. Most portions were a bite. Full portions were over seasoned pasta with extra sage and a very tart salad. Minced beef was available with plenty of onion powder. 2- when booking the reservation we reminded the staff there were two birthdays at the table, when confirming the reservation we reminded them again. No one seemed to remember when we showed up, the server figured out it was my birthday after awhile and offered me any drink on the house that she charged me for later, thanks. Second birthday ignored. 3- party of six, $1000, i expected more, talked you up to family and friends and ended up with pie on my face. Probably won't be back unfortunately. read more

My daughter and her fiance' dinded at Gander and Ryegrass a week prior to my visit. They raved about the service and the meal they enjoyed together. They recommended the place to my wife and I, so this week we went. My daughter's assessment was not inaccurate. The setvice staff was amazing. Our server was especially attentive and knowledgeable. Our meal was amazing, we had the chef's special which included a starter, we enjoyed tge octopus, next we enjoyed a pasta dish and my main dish was the duck breast. Nailed it. Read the reviews and gave it a try-didn't disappoint. I was there on a business trip and and hopped in just after 5 for a bite. I didn't realize it was a 6 course meal, and that was more than I was looking for, so I went to the bar for a la carte service. Our reservation was for 6:45. We didn't received our cocktails until 7:20. Apps at 7:40, which were good, but none required cooking, olives, nuts and bread. It's 8:20 and we just received our entrees. If we hadn't waited soooo long I would have enjoyed my entree ( kale handkerchief pasta) my husband ordered the rib eye, ( after the wait) was cold! Best meal we've had in recent memory. Love the coursed menu (though you can order a la carte), and how focused it is. The entire approach assumes you can't make a bad choice (you can't). Across our party we tried nearly every dish on the menu in a 3 course, and every bite was fantastic - special note for the pork tenderloin which was hands down the best I've ever had. The menu descriptions are amusingly brief for how incredibly thoughtful each dish is. Also ordered cocktails (Paper Plane, so fun to see that on a menu out here), and wine (delicious, and well recommended). The service was outstanding, and one of the hardest things to quantify is just how well they treated us - from spoiling us with olives and amuse-bouches, to giving us their best when we had all three kids joining us (including a grumpy didn't want to be woken from his nap 3 year old). That meant we were splitting plates between the smaller bellies, and they treated each one like a valued guest. I can't say how much that stands out. Can't wait to return. read more

My family and I had a wonderful evening here. Our waitress Emily was fantastic and everyone was polite. I was especially a fan of the mulled wine or cider offered at the beginning to take the winter chill off. We did the half marathon and everything was delicious. Emily was even able to give wine recommendations that suited our palettes perfectly and paired with the food marvelously. There was enough food within each course to leave you satisfied without being heavy it was an ideal lighter dinner. There only down sides; one is they are attached to aunties and uncles by half-walls, which caused a significant draft every time someone opened the door to the other business. In 12° temperature this was less than ideal. 2 the menu had been changed to a predetermined list rather than being able to choose from various options, a member of my party had been able to choose the previous times and said that there was not any indication that the menu would be changed on the website nor when the reservation was made. Aside from these two things it was a lovely meal and I look forward to going back! read more

The food is like "art", the service is so personable, knowledgeable and delightful to engage with on every level; whether it's wine, best dinner choice etc. We love this restaurant and our son (attending college in the area) thinks it's the best in Spokane! I appreciate this restaurant. While they specialize in long prefix dining experiences, I have elected to sit at the lovely bar for a Manhattan and a small plate. The bartender (Justin) makes his own bitters for the drink - makes it so good! The food could be outstanding, the only thing keeping it from being so is too much salt used by the chef. My friends were celebrating a Christmas together and because I was also trying to manage a teens birthday party, I wasn't sure I could make it so I was not on The reservation. I enjoyed the whole experience at Gander and Ryegrass. I had the three course meal option with octopus starter, pappadelle and pork, and final entree of sirlon steak. I enjoyed everything I ordered. I was quite full at the end of my meal. And I did have a chance to taste my friend's order of scallops. If I had to re-do my order I think I would have gone with the scallops as well-they were incredibly delicious. I also had a cocktail which was nice, and my friend had a homemade coca cola with house made syrup. The servers throughout the meal were attentive and knowledgable and kind. I was very disappointed with the service at the bar and the dinner service. Normally I don't post these kinds of reviews but was looking forward to trying this place after all I had heard about it in Yelp and other online reviews. We arrived early Saturday after the GU - CSU game, so sat at the window bar area and waited at least 15 mins before going to the main bar due to no one coming by for a drink order. Once at the bar, the bartender proceeds to take drink orders from my gf and her mom but does not finish up taking the orders from myself or her father. Once he gets around to dropping off their drinks, he finally asks for our orders but it is then time to goto our table. Once seated by the hostess (she was great btw) , our server greets us and took the 2 outstanding drink orders but the drinks were delivered in staggered order with me waiting at least 15 mins to get mine. From there, it took another 20 mins to get an appetizer order in. Once we got our food we were generally neglected without a check in until well after we finished the small plate. After 20 more mins went by I decided that I would just get the check (that I had to flag down the staff for) not wanting to commit to spending more time waiting, and then went to The Steelhead across the street instead to get dinner. The app (goat breast risotto) tasted fine but given there are so few tables and a small bar, I'm not sure how the bartender and server could be so inefficient. I would say I had high hopes for this place but I think I will pass on coming back in the future until the processes are shored up. (And I mean no malice by this but it was just that disappointing.) read more
