Came in one day in the years I went clubbing. So around 1 am and tired of the music and getting kind of hungry, we come here to grab a drink and some food. So we got our food and some canned drinks and begin drinking and eating at the tables provided. A friend calls and reception wasn't that great inside so had to walk outside for a minute. What a hidden gem, so unsuspectingly good. I thought I had had the best baba ganoush of my life from Gyro King across from the Public library, but no.....here at the Garage Cafe I had the most delicious baba ganoush. Smoky, chunky, mmm tahini and I don't even like tahini that much. Wow. Super fresh. Buy some for your next party and don't just serve chips and fritos! Pair it with fresh veggies. WARNING: This is a review of the LIQUOR STORE. The cashier is racist, rude, and he charged me nearly $5 for a tall can. I would never ever recommend coming here. I know it's across from Slim's, but the liquor store cashier is honestly just a jerk. I'm sure the food up front is good, but do not give the liquor store in back your business. It's based on principle. He's authentically racist towards Asian people. I've only went in once and he said don't come back here, I don't want your business. Jerk to the maximum to put it politely. By far the best Giros on the west coast. The baklava is to die for. This place is a hidden gem. Part convenience store, part take out, the food is amazing. The owner takes pride in his recipes and it show. He is often understaffed and overworked, but always polite. The kitchen is usually not up and running till after 2 pm, but open till 3. If you are out late and need food, this is way better than a burrito. Please try them out, you will not be disappointed. read more

When youre drunk, the food here is awesome. Burgers and fries are good, not burger house good, but hits the spot. They got burritos, tacos, and other deli type foods, as well as all the liquor store essentials. My only gripe about the place is that they take advantage of where they're at, and charge ridiculously high for everything. read more

They make a tasty, tasty shawarma. It was huge, and spicy, and made with love. Apparently the guy cooking it added a ton of spices and sriracha, I wasn't watching though. i came here for the food. but noticed the liquor store was packed with people trying to get their drank on! well it IS right across the street from Slims, and Butter is a couple stores down. i ordered the $4.99 hummus appetizer. their hummus was really good. but i'm not sure what kind of bread they gave us. i was expecting pita but they gave us the wrap they use for gyros. kind of strange...but their falafels are good! read more

It is 11pm on 11th St. You have had your fill of the last bar you were at, and are looking for a bite to eat, and maybe a little vitamin water refresher before you hit the next club on your list. This is where The Garage comes in. Food counter and seating up front, convenience/liquor store in the back. The kitchen has gone through several incarnations, and the current Shawerma/gyro/pizza incarnation is EXCELLENT. Though, if you want more than an already done slice of pizza, there is going to be a small wait. The convenience store has a decent selection of food and drinks at regular convenient store prices. The guy who works the register in back is regular saint. He deals with so much drunken crazy and still keeps a happy disposition. Unless someone really pisses him off. But once he is rid of the drunken douche he is back to smiling. Unfortunately he is still subject to the moralizing institution that is the ABC and has to follow rules, like no selling after midnight (which makes me a sad puppy) and no drinking on his premises, if he wishes to keep his licenses. Some people can be real dicks about it and were I him, I would just close my store at midnight to cut down on the bs, but he perseveres through to keep beverages and food available to us late night revelers. But be wise if you are getting booze between bars. We all like to indulge in a bit of cheaper liquor when we are on a romp, but if you get refused back into the club you already paid for or get kicked out if they find a bottle on you, don't say you ain't been warned. read more

the food is really decent and is great after a show at slims. they got everything you need. Problem: they steal your card number!!! I went here and used a card ONLY here that night. The next day I checked and the card was used for 5 transactions for over $200 (in Hayward a place Ive never been). My bank cleared it up, but i know it was them. They will rip off your card and use it. they should be investigated and steer cleared of. nice food guys but don't be thieves and steal my card. I know you did it and you deserve to go to JAIL AND BE SHUT DOWN!!! read more

This is a truly great liquor store with an excellent taco and hot dog stand inside. Wide selection of drinks and legitimately excellent tacos. The carnitas ones have fried potato in them, which I love. The liquor store is basically just drinks and snacks. No toilet paper or dish soap or whatever, just a great selection of beverages. Good wines, craft brews and cheap swill, liquor from every type of shelf. Good stuff! I always get tacos here when I'm in the neighborhood read more

Being i live a block away from garage cafe its a perfect little corner store that has great hours and pretty much all the little nicknacks i need ... a tiny bit pricey but thats ok ... i become a regular there and all employees are very calm and friendly .... they also have a lil restaurant in the front of the store and a liqueur store in the back .. also a ATM up front i believe but they do take cards as well as cash ... and you can play lotto there as well .... 4 stars well worth it ... good little place this Garage Cafe read more

Not only is there a wine and beer selection *perfect* for the mission house party to which you forgot to bring "a little something" - there is also a deli counter where they serve up "pizza" and burritos. The reason the Pizza gets quotes is that apparently it tasted more like cardboard and cheese, but after many a free Yelp Big-O, sometimes cardboard and cheese really hits the spot! Plus it's cheap, there's a bathroom and it's open late! What's not to love :) read more

Last night I was in the Garage Cafe's neighborhood at about 9:30PM, and almost everything was closed. Desperately hungry, I stumbled across this place, and man am I glad I did. Okay, so the convenience store/restaurant combo setup is a little weird, but the heavenly deliciousness of the gyro I got, and its reasonable price, more than made up for the less-than-perfect ambiance. I'm telling you, that was quite possibly the most delicious sandwich I have ever eaten in my entire life. I'm still thinking about it now, wishing I had leftovers (it was so good, I scarfed down the entire *enormous* thing! And I weigh 115 lbs!) The meat was perfectly cooked, with this delightful crispiness on the outside and tender juiciness on the inside, and the tzaziki sauce was beyond compare. Plus, the veggies were crisp and fresh. Definitely a 5-star sandwich. So good, in fact, that I'm contemplating driving over the bridge, in the rain, right now just to get another one. read more

This gem has a small cafe where you can have the tastiest shawarmas! They take about 8 minutes and you can do chicken, lamb or beef. I think chicken is a good way to go. It's huge and only $8 so worth it as a last minute reliable option! The guy who works in the story is nice. read more

I went in to buy some snacks and had to buy at least $5 worth of stuff to use a card, already a little annoyed since I just wanted a drink. I go to use my card and his internet went down, causing a delay for the line...still no big deal. The charge finally went thru and the guy rudely tells me to remember to bring cash next time. I'm like, "your putting this on me?" I tell him, no one carries cash anymore. To which he responds, "now you know to bring cash". Great way to run a business. Best tacos in San Francisco. Hands down.

I have never had a falafel until I moved to New York. Since being back to the Bay Area, it's be quite difficult to find a good, decent place. My husband and I moved to SOMA recently and discovered Best Gyro Cafe (also know as Garage Cafe). It is amazing! I had a falafel and my husband had a chicken shawrma. He claims it be the second best thing to what we had in Spain. I will be back to Best Gyro Cafe many more times. Definitely recommend it. read more

The gyro I had wasn't good. The meat was dry and didn't have much flavor at all. Lettuce looked old as it was greenish brown. Cucumber sauce wasn't good. The size was pretty large but that's the only good thing about it. For almost $9 I expected it to be great instead of below average. read more
