Freshest late night food in SoMa

So I had been walking passed here everyday from my apartment and a few times I popped in to see when they'd be serving food and they told me to come back soon because they were just starting up with new management. So I did just that and man am I happy I did. The staff that works here is great and the man in the kitchen is a WIZARD. He makes the food fresh and I'm honestly blown away by how everything tastes. I've been here about half a dozen times since it opened and the food has consistently been great, whether it's the steak and cheese sub, the beef falafel or the chicken and rice plate (which is gluten-free!). If you're coming from the caltrain or in the area, stop in and try the food.

I've visited Harvey's a very long time ago. After my visit I would enjoy my purchase in the empty lot next door. (Technically, I shouldn't even bother writing a review about a place I haven't been to in over 20 years. I wonder if this review will get deleted? It is a positive review, but mostly nostalgic, self-indulgent and befuddled.) The past couple of weeks, I've ridden my bike by here a few times and I can't figure out where the empty lot was. I thought it was right next door but I really can't figure it out. I would ask someone but everyone else from back then is confused now too. 12/03/08 update! I realized they built a condo on the empty lot! I'm not crazy after all....this time...... I vaguely remember Harvey. He helped a lot of people. He gave me credit. When I paid him back, I felt very proud. About ten years ago, I read that he died. I tried to find the article at SFGate but after ten minutes I got frustrated. The article was about the messenger scene in the late 80' and early 90's and how many people survived it because of Harvey's help. No, I am not and never have been a bike messenger. I am way too lazy and dotty. The End.

the whole point of anything being hipster* is that it isn't acknowledged as such. ever. no matter what. so i'm -not- going to describe workerbro or the convo we had. or the selection of drank. ::one eyebrow raised:: ::lowkey intent glance:: ::other eyebrow raised too:: as in do you get wtf i'm telling you!! friendly plae**. ran out of ice tho on a party night and wasn't getting more fml. *legitimately hipster not like 98% of people throwing the word around without understanding its actual characteristics. **initially a typo then i decided to create a new word a la "bae".

They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

In my case, KLWines stated that the order had been transferred to RareStorage and that they had no further responsibility. RareStorage, on the other hand, ignored my emails and support requests. From a customer's perspective, this is an unacceptable experience, as neither company accepted responsibility or provided a satisfactory resolution.

I did not touch any merchandise and only looked at the wall of drinks. I was inside for a short time and thanked the staff as I exited. As soon as I stepped outside, I could hear staff speaking about me. When I responded, the situation escalated quickly. Two individuals approached me and began yelling aggressively, repeatedly calling me a "thief" and using other hostile language, despite the fact that I had not taken anything. One individual came very close to my face and pointed at me, while the second moved toward me and my dog in a way that felt threatening. During the interaction, my business card was thrown to the ground and kicked toward the curb. The situation became intense enough that I experienced a physical stress response and had to call 911. Emergency services responded, and the incident is documented with a police CAD report. I also have video of the interaction. After emergency services arrived, the individuals returned inside and closed the store shutters. This experience felt completely disproportionate to the situation. Based on this interaction, I would not feel comfortable returning.

My partner and I usually find that rum is not represented well in most places (whiskey and tequila seem to be the SF winners), but at HS we were able to find everything we were looking for. They've got all the choice brands: el dorado, hamilton, clement, plantation, etc. And, they've got plenty of bitters, liquers, and what not to compliment. I also really appreciated that they had several options for non-dairy ice cream in the ice cream cooler. Definitely want to try one of those cookie sandwiches next time. All in all, a great purveyor and appreciated assortment of libations. Cheers!
