Garage Milk Tea (Monterey Park) is not bad. I ordered the Honey Kumquat Lemon Tea ($5) with Crystal Boba (additional 50 cents). It's Jasmine Green Tea, Lemon, and Kumquat. Personally, I won't reorder it since it tastes like saccharine, sour syrup with very little tea; however, its boba is exceptional and tasty. This POPULAR spot offers CHEAP options that are above average. I arrived at Garage Milk Tea (Monterey Park) on Saturday (around 6:10PM). Parking very EASY. The lot is big; sign says, "2 Hour Parking." Customers primarily order at the self-service kiosk. Regarding Staff, the vibe felt like an Asian Fish Market Stall. Staff spoke loudly, aggressively, and jovially at times. Staff were playful to one another while Staff also talked very animatedly with other customers. My drink was completed very quickly in a few minutes. As mentioned, I'd ordered the Honey Kumquat Lemon Tea ($5) with Crystal Boba (additional 50 cents). Although I didn't enjoy the beverage, I did LOVE the boba. Unlike other budget spots, the boba is perky, playful, and bouncy. Honestly, it felt like all the other customers were only there to order the popcorn chicken. On ambiance, Garage Milk Tea (Monterey Park) is cramped and tiny. It's an order-and-leave spot. There's no tables, and there's about four tiny chairs. There's also a gender neutral customer restroom. The location mostly smells like fresh popcorn chicken, but it's a very forgettable & uncomfortable spot. Most customers were standing outside the door just waiting for their orders. Overall, Garage Milk Tea (Monterey Park) is not bad. It's perhaps one of the better CHEAP eats in the area. Unfortunately, the drinks also taste very budget and frugal. Hmmmm, I'm not sure how to feel about this place. Yes, the prices are lower than that of other milk tea shops. But the service is so bad I am hesitant to come back. There's usually one person handling drinks in the front and one or two in the back making the fried snacks. If you don't see anyone in the front, you have to make sure to scream because they can't hear you well. There is a kiosk to order for paying by card. The kiosk doesn't tell you if an item is sold out. The menu on the board doesn't reflect the actual prices, so it looks like they increase prices without notice. You need to ask them to unlock the bathroom. There is one stall inside this small business. The garage theme is kinda cute because there's a garage door on the wall and a few small stools. I've been here a couple times and to be honest the drinks aren't that great. Not terrible, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. I got a jasmine green tea this time and it was just alright. What I do come here for is the food. The popcorn chicken and squid balls are actually really good. Fried well, nice Taiwanese flavor with a bit of spice, and they give solid portions for the price. Was in a desperate boba fix and this store was the only place nearby so I decided to try it! I was a bit skeptical since the reviews were mixed but I caved and got my go-to mango pomelo sago anyway. The lady at the counter had a very whatever silverlake ice cream store kind of attitude and gave us the least amount of toppings I have ever seen. The drink was also premade from the fridge - not blended like I'm used to. It overall tasted like artificial yogurt-y mystery drink than anything. No adjustments. I'm here to review the popcorn chicken. It's probably one of the cheapest popcorn chicken options in the area (total: $6.62) and comes in a very generous portion. The chicken was well-seasoned and perfectly crispy. I really enjoyed it. You can also order it spicy if you prefer. I would definitely recommend it if you're just craving a quick snack. I haven't tried their drinks yet, but maybe next time when I come back for the popcorn chicken. Service was quick and efficient, and you can order either from the kiosk or directly from the cashier. The shop is small with retro vibes. There is no seating, it is walk-in for order only. It may be a bit hard to find at first because a part of the plaza is currently under some construction. The popcorn chicken? AMAZING. For just $5 (if I recall correctly), you get a to-go bowl/bag of popcorn chicken. The pieces are nicely sized and the seasoning is even. We ordered both drinks for $6.65 - so the drinks are kind of a steal! Large Golden Oolong Tea - Surprisingly, this didn't taste that much oolong. It tasted a bit like green tea for some reason, with a hint of canned peaches (?)., which my husband and I were confused about since it wasn't supposed to be a fruity drink. There was quite a bit of ice in this drink, although we asked for less ice. This drink was barely sweet (though we requested 100%). It wasn't bad, but just wasn't what we expected. Regular Original Milk Tea - I wish I got this in a bigger size haha. This was a tasty milk tea! There was definitely a tea flavor. The 100% sweet was on the sweeter side but just enough for both me and my husband. We actually both preferred this drink and would come back for more since it's only $3 - so affordable! Customer Service: The guy who helped us out was on his phone when we came in and greeted us a few minutes later. He didn't really ask if we needed help or anything just waited for us to place our order. He did make our drinks really quickly. Interior: It's so small inside. A few seats along the wall, which is an actual Garage Door! This is not somewhere you stay and chat with your drinks. Parking: The store is located in a lot. I'll give it a 4 for the incredible deal on the snacks but the drinks (or at least the one i got) was easily a 1. True average score is closer to a 2.5 - 3 but because I would come back for the snacks and prices, i'll give it a higher rating. In this day and age, you really won't find many boba shops with prices under $6 these days.. so not only is it kinda insane that their snacks are mostly around the $5 range, but some of their classic drinks are going for $3 too. I really enjoyed their popcorn chicken, cheese sticks, and curry fish balls even though it was a bit too salty for me. I would recommend going with the mild spice because this may lessen the salt content. Of the three, popcorn chicken is definitely the winner :) Tried the Tao Tao Paradise drink for $6 and this was a sore disappointment. This is definitely a water and artificial syrup type of drink, but on top of that, the taste was just not it. Mango sago didn't even have any sago? Ordered a mango sago with boba. Typical Asian customer service, but ordered at the kiosk. Staff were interacting with each other while making drinks, but it was kinda slow at the same time. My drink was just okay. The mango milk base was actually good. It had pomelo and mango bits in it, but there was absolutely zero sago and it's literally in the name of the drink. Boba was mushy and stale. I was craving popcorn chicken and I came across this place on the way home. Plenty of parking, the shop itself is small, cute, mom and pop feel. I had difficulty ordering due to language barrier. There is a self service kiosk I could have used but I was already deep in my order when I realized there was one. I ordered spicy popcorn chicken, Jasmine's Dream and a pineapple slush. The popcorn chicken was on point and really really spicy, wasn't sure if there was an option for mild/medium. The pineapple slush was not slushing. I don't think she put enough ice in there. It's more of like juice with crushed ice. I was disappointed with the Jasmine's Dream. The tea itself was good, the boba was ok but the cheese foam? It was spoiled. It tasted bitter, sour.. that fermented taste. I usually finish all of the cheese foam from other shops but not this one. Maybe it was just a bad batch.. but cheese foam is best when freshly made and I'm not sure if that topping fridge is holding correct temperatures consistently because they do open it often for other toppings.
