My Fiancé and I came for lunch. She asked for no onions on her dish. It came smothered in them we asked for it to be taken back. The server promptly took it back and then the manager confronted my Fiancé in a very hostile manner asking her if she was allergic to onions and she said no I just prefer not to eat them. The manager then made it a point to let us know that everything here has onion. Even after my Fiancé had tried to select something else she knew she liked. The manager was extremely rude and stood over her while she tried to look at the menu. She was so upset she didn't eat. I ate my food quickly. On behalf of my cousin who lives in Northern California, I organized a large family gathering for her mother's 80th birthday. After posting an ISO on FB, Katelyn Pascoe messaged me about Nativo Garduños possibly being able to accommodate us. I went and visited with her boss, IrmaLisa, who presented me with an option at their Westside location where she had Krissy take care of our party of 37. (Krissy is a well experienced waitress and expert with split checks!) In addition, The main hostess Vivian expertly gathered our guests as they arrived and waited for our tables. (My cousin was surprising her mother and was able to wait by the bar until everyone was seated before she made her entrance.) Everything was absolutely perfect! I thinks me too generous... it was really like a 2 star, but for nostalgic reasons, I can't bring myself to rate it. first, I was really excited to taste the "award winning" green chile. It was probably the worst green chile that I have had in a long time... I make my own from roasted green chiles, and this seemed like very mild green chiles that had been left on the stove for a few hours boiling... no body. The chips and salsa, a fail. complete. The carne asada... fail. dry and tasteless. the waiter was so nice, I did the whole "pack it to go and through it in the parking lot trash, as not to offend", dealy. I am going back to the top, because I have to change it to a 2 star. Nothing in this says 3 stars. People were nice... aaarrrggghhh, but the margs were not great, and weak. Terrible service from every worker in there. The host seemed annoyed that we came in. We got our food, no utensils were given. We asked multiple people for utensils, no one brought them. Maybe after about 10 minutes someone finally got them (this was at lunch when it wasn't even busy). They've done a pretty solid job adjusting to the nonsense caused by Covid. With that, the wait staff has done a wonderful job being extremely friendly, patient, and understanding. The service is really the only reason for 3 stars. My husband and I both ordered margaritas: a jalapeño margarita and a blood orange margarita. Word to the wise... Don't order either one. The jalapeño one was way too sweet and the blood orange was also way too sweet, but it also tasted like there was zero tequila in it. For food, we ordered the beef and the chicken tacos. Neither of us were impressed in the slightest because the only aspect that had any flavor was the cheese. These were the most bland tacos I've had in my life. read more

I was actually going to Los Cuates which is next door, but when I went in, it just looked awful. So I turned around and walked across the parking lot and into Garduno's. It was fun. Terrible waitstaff and manager. After sightseeing with our out of town guests, I told the server that we were starving and asked which were the fastest appetizers and could they be delivered as soon as possible. Our drinks were brought to us by a different server but our server was MIA. We spoke to several servers about needing chips, salsa and appetizers to no avail. We finally talked to her and she said she would take care of it. But she didn't. And she ignored our waving hands. Finally the chips, salsa and appetizers came out at the same time as our dinners came. No apologies when I complained and she would not take the appitizers back. I explained to the manager that we only wanted the appetizers to stave off hunger but instead we sat there for 25 minutes drooling into empty drink glasses being ignored. He was a jerk about it, so we paid for the uneaten things but we will never go back to Garduno's. Ever. Who needs it?! We ate here for dinner on a Saturday afternoon. Due to COVID restrictions, there was only seating available outside so we waited for about an hour only before we were seated. Their menu is small with very few items. We started with their coconut margaritas which were delicious! By far the best coconut margaritas I have had! As for my main entree, I had their enchiladas colores which were very good. I thoroughly enjoyed them! My husband had their shrimp tacos, which were decent, subpar, nothing amazing about them. As for the service, everyone was friendly and our server was very attentive. Overall, I really enjoyed their coconut margaritas and loved their enchiladas colores! We have eaten at the Garduno's at Cottonwood Mall twice now. The food is great. They have a friendly greeter at the front. We got seated in a reasonable amount of time considering how busy they were. I grew up in Abq. And used to LOVE it when we would go to the old Gardunos near Juan Tabo & Montgomery in the NE Heights....they were awesome. This year when I came home to spend Christmas we went to this reopened location and I was soooo looking forward to it....I even made sure we would have a table by using Open Table since I thought they would be swamped the day after Christmas. When we arrived I was told it would be a few minutes they were getting our table ready (5 people). 10 minutes later we were taken to our table in a section of the restaurant that had nothing but empty tables (why did we have to wait?) We weren't given enough chips and salsa for our table, the food took forever to arrive and when it did one person recieved the wrong thing completely and there was nearly no queso on my chimichanga. Everything taste good but the portions are to small, the surf and turf chimichanga had little to no shrimp and steak and the prices are pretty high for a Tex mex place the only good thing is that they complement you with sopapillas at the end, I think it comes with your meal, and the service was good. again the reason why I'm giving it 3 stars it's because of the prices and small portions which I think are more suitable for A great date night at a French bistro or Italian, even a Japanese sushi bar not a Tex mex place that's just my opinion! read more

I was highly impressed with this place from the servers to the food! We were immediately served with fresh chips and salsa, the salsa was good but it did have a little kick to it. I love tacos and wow can I say these tacos were amazing and Incredibly filling! There is a large menu so there's something for everyone, will 100% be returning in the future. I used to love Garduno's. We went for Sunday dinner. They took forever to serve our food. We ordered steak and shrimp, the stake had a lot of fat in it and was very thin, the calabazitas were ok but very little portion, the corncake was raw it was too sweet, but that's not it, the cucumber margaritas didn't taste like they had any alcohol in it. Our bill was 91.80, we gave the waiter $100, bill, told him to keep the change, I left another $10 on the table, on our way out he stop us and told us we only gave him $80 dollars, my husband told him no, we gave you $100, we had just took them out the ATM, anyways, we felt robbed by the WAITER!! And of course how can you prove cash!! We just don't like to make scenes, We never complain we just don't go back no the places we don't like, but this time I feel I have to let everyone know about it!!! Three are many places to get great New Mexican food in Albuquerque and this place is just average. Drinks took forever but that was quick compared to the the food. Taste is average and reminds me of Taco Bell. Chimichanga was barley fried and soft. Margarita's were the only shining light but made with generic mix. Garduno's has been our "go to" Mexican restaurant for years. The food and staff have always been great. I particularly like the chips and salsa, We usually end up getting a pint of salsa to bring home with us (They always incude chips with salsa orders) Both the chips and salsa are made in-house. So much better than what you can get at the grocery. We usually order the combo plates with tacos, enchiladas, burritos, carne adovada and/or chili relleno. The servings are large and seemed very fresh. I don't eat a lot of food during any one sitting, but being the cheapskate that I am, I always order the four item combo, eat one of the entrees and bring the other items home for at least two additional meals. (The four item combo is just $2.00 more than the two item combo.) What the heck! We've never had a bad meal here. Oh ya, sopaipillas are included. In reading the previous reviews, the only reason I can figure for the poor reviews is that they are mostly old and posted during Covid or pre-Covid. Sunday night and in the mood for Mexican food. We had a pretty good meal the last time we were here so Garduno's it is. Got seated and our server was at the table with chips and salsa a few minutes later. So far so good. Got our drinks and placed the order - tuffed chili rellanos, tamale and a cup of posole with charro beans and apple jalapeño slaw. Verdict? Well salsa was excellent, red & green chiles - hot but not overly so. Slaw was equally good and a great combination of flavors. The mot so good. The tamale was ok, but too much masa. The rellano was really disappointing. Presentation was good but it wasn't hot - somewhere between lukewarm and warm. There was way too much batter and the carne asada was dry. As for the posole - didn't get a chance to try it. It goes home and I'll reheat it tomorrow. Our server brought out piping hot sopillas to finish off the dinner. This is such a great spot for happy hour and dinner. I am not sure about the rest of the week but on Fridays they offer a free tapas bar with chips, frito pies, enchiladas, etc... it just depends on the day what they are serving. The atmosphere is upbeat and busy yet you can have great conversations at the table or bar. The servers are very knowledgeable about their product. This means the food items to the tequilas. Let me warn you about one thing, the servings are large and you will have left overs to take home and enjoy again. Some items may not be on the menu but just ask you server. The favoritos give you a sample of many tapas and are super delicious. Also, the tomatillo sauce is awesome. The quesadilla is amazing as are the enchiladas. Their sauces are all palette pleasing.
