10/21/2019 Second visit. Where Located at the foothills of Albuquerque's Sandia Mountains and where my Wife was raised. Ambiance 5/5 El Patron is a popular destination for Locals and Tourists for New Mexican cuisine. The decor inside is classic Spanish architecture with artwork throughout a number of dining areas. There is also a nice outdoor dining patio in the back for parties and large groups. Service 5/5 We had reservations and our group of five was seated shortly after our scheduled time. The restaurant was just getting busy after being seated. There were a couple dedicated servers working the patio who brought our menus and took our drink orders. Food 5/5 El Patron's menu has al the popular dishes with options for New Mexico Red Chili Sauce. I recall what my Wife ordered, Blue Corn Cheese Enchilada and Carne Adovada plate. Both were delicious. Desert 5/5 We ordered Sopas with honey for our party. We recommend anyone interested in New Mexican cuisine to try this El Patron location which is the better of their two locations. Eat well my friends, SYOY. read more

We found this place by a recommendation from a Local ! our waitress was the best! very sweet & gave us awesome service it felt like we'd had known her for years. We asked her for two of the best plates ! we got the combination plate and the chicken lasagna with serrano crema sauce! WOW LET ME JUST SAY! that was the best new mexican food we have ever had. HANDS DOWN! We will definitely be coming back! Cozy little restaurant & great for meeting with groups or bringing your family! also has a very cute little patio seating area! read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican/ New Mexican restaurants. The servers are always so pleasant and patient, even elevators we come in with a big group. We came in with our crew for brunch after ballooning this morning, including breakfast cocktails. I had the Huevos Americanos which are a great value. We were seated quickly and able to put in our orders promptly. We tried the Burqueno Silvercoin Margarita. It was delicious and had a nice orange finish with the added moonshine. The combo plate was just the right size and service check ins continued through the whole meal. While the restaurant was quite brightly lit, it also had a nice relaxed vibe. read more

A gem. Great service from friendly staff. Very attentive to special dietary needs. Food is always hot and fresh tasting, nothing tastes like prepared way ahead of time and just warmed up. A gem in NE ABQ for casual New Mexican food. Easy access, parking. Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. Extensive menu, something for everyone. They cover the New Mexican staples, plus they have many offerings for those not in the mood for Mexican. And the prices are very reasonable. Avoid this place altogether, especially during breakfast. My child's drink spilled on me, and several staff members saw I was drenched yet chose not to help. Some even laughed. No one took initiative, and it was clear the team waited for someone else to handle it. When a server finally approached, she pushed the water toward me while "cleaning," making it worse. Other tables were served promptly while we waited over ten minutes without drinks or acknowledgment, so we left. The lack of professionalism from the entire team was unacceptable. read more

We love El Patron North! The atmosphere is always welcoming, whether we're relaxing on the beautiful outdoor patio or dining inside, the interior is always spotless and inviting. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food never disappoints. The enchilada casserole with rice and papitas is absolutely delicious, flavorful, comforting, and perfectly cooked every time. Their salsa and chips are fresh, and the margaritas are great, too! It's one of our favorite spots for a casual meal or a fun night out. Highly recommend! read more

We arrived at El Patron this morning at 10:20 AM for breakfast. We entered and were promptly greeted by a young man who said, "Welcome to El Patron. Please take a seat wherever you desire and I will be there right behind you." He arrived at our booth within one minute of our being seated and smiled, saying, welcome back. Is there anything besides the glasses of water that I can bring you to drink?" My guest ask for coffee and I stated that the water would be fine for me. He placed menus in front of us and stated he would return quickly with the coffee. He went on to say that our server would arrive quickly to take our breakfast orders. The young man returned one minute later with the coffee and creamer for my guest. As soon as he departed, our cheerful server arrived and said, "Welcome back gentlemen. Glad to see you again. Have you had enough time to decide on breakfast selections? My guest ordered the Breakfast burrito with Christmas style Chile. I then ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast with scrambled eggs, papitas and wheat toast. The server thanked us and said that she would get these orders to us as soon they got them prepared. She returned in three minutes with coffee and water refills. She smiled and said, "I was just told that your meals should be ready to be delivered hot from the kitchen in about another five minutes." Five minutes later she returned to the table with our meals and placed them in front of us reminding us that the plates were very hot so we would not burn ourselves. She went on to ask if she could bring us anything else such as ketchup, or hot sauce? My guest asked if she could bring him a bottle of Jalisco, which she confirmed and returned with the sauce one minute later. As we were both finished with our meals the very sweet server approached the table and asked if I would like a container for the food I was unable to finish. I thanked her however declined. She smiled and said in that case I will get these dishes out of your way, I will also leave your order ticket here and there is absolutely no rush, but I will be happy to process it for you whenever it is convenient. After she had removed our dishes and cleared another adjacent table she came back to the table and saw that there was a credit card placed atop the ticket. She asked if we would like her to process it or was there anything else she could get for us. I asked her to please process the card, which she did expediently. She then placed it and the credit card back on the table and said, "It sure was nice to see both of your smiling faces back in here again this week. We hope to see you again soon. Have a Happy and Safe New Year! read more

Went tonight with a group of friends. I hadn't been to this location previously, and considering the low reviews, I was concerned. Let me start by insisting they have rectified whatever was causing those, and this was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in a long time. Making a reservation for our party of 8 was simple, and the staff courteous and attentive from the initial call through the time we paid the check. Our orders were accurate and prepared perfectly, the only item missing was a requested side of guacamole which went unnoticed because everything else was so good. As with the original location, the fish tacos and chile rellenos were incredible. In fact, I'd say tonight's relleno was the best I've ever eaten anywhere. Adequately stuffed, and the batter was the perfect texture and consistency. Crisp yet tender, enhancing a perfect, thick green chile. The Serrano cream sauce was perfectly flavorful, which I was grateful for since the last time I had it at the other location, it was so spicy you could hardly enjoy it. The sopapillas were served AFTER the meal, as they should be, hot and steamy right from the fryer, and so perfectly crisp on the edges and pillowy everywhere else. I'd say this was one of the best New Mexican meals I've enjoyed in years. I save my 5s for the truly best experiences, and tonight was one of them. read more

Surprised to see a handful of poor reviews. They may have some truth to them. However, going in for breakfast on Sunday morning, it was a great visit. The parking lot was almost full and the restaurant too. $7.99 breakfast specials is hard to beat. It is definitely a must. Food came out tasty and hot (stove hot and chili hot). Our waitress was good. Not very memorable but she did check on our party and made sure we were taken care of. Not a huge restaurant but they do have patio seating, which I'm excited to sit at!! read more

Twelve of us showed up for happy hour at 3 pm on a Tuesday. What a lovely time we had. We sat in the bar area so as to be able to order from the happy hour menu. Shane the bartender/server did an excellent job of taking our orders, executing them expertly, and then was also gracious enough to provide separate checks. He did not miss a beat. The kitchen did a good job. All the food was really good - except I admit that the angus beef sliders that I ordered were not exactly what I expected. They were too thick, the bun was too thick, and they were a bit dry unfortunately. However, all the Mexican dishes seemed to please everyone else. Lori was also gracious in helping us to get organized. This restaurant has a small footprint - which means small bar area and adjacent dining space. The menu is good, the prices are good (be aware they do add on a small inflation adjustment charge) and the service was wonderful. I know there have been mixed reviews here for this location of El Patron but trust me - we were very happy and we will surely return again. read more

My only complaint is that they were out of most things needed to make their specialty drinks. I think if you have drinks special to your business you should have the ingredients. I wouldn't say anything except my husband ordered 3 drinks before they had the ingredients to make 1 but otherwise it was awesome read more

The service is on point, and the atmosphere is really congenial with shared tables in the bar. I've had the cheese quesadilla, tacos ( for $2 taco Tuesdays), huevos rancheros, chimichanga, too many to name and all very tasty. They have a nice patio too, but they are stuck in the supply chain jam of not being able to get new patio furniture. There was a menu board in front of an intercom that didn't work. It said to order at the window. When I told the cashier at the window that I wanted a #2 breakfast burrito, she said they don't use the numbering system anymore and asked what was in the burrito. I had to remember because the same menu board wasn't posted at the window. Then I had to pull over on the side and wait for my order. It didn't take very long. The burrito is a good size for the price of about $4.25. However, its ingredients are all under-seasoned and not cooked well. For example, the hashbrowns are supposed to be fried or baked a little to brown them and give them flavor. These hashbrowns seemed to be semi-raw and just heated up. The whole burrito had inadequate salt. I keep adding cholula sauce to mine. The green chili had no flavor. Bottom line: You get a good sized burrito that doesn't taste very satisfying.

They were incredibly welcoming and handled our big group like it was no problem at all. The service was excellent the whole time, everyone working was friendly, attentive, and just really good people. I ordered the elk chili and really enjoyed it. It had a lot of flavor and was something a little different from what I usually get. The blue corn onion rings were the real highlight though. Honestly the best onion rings I've ever had. Perfectly crispy and just really good with the green chile accent. I also really appreciated the atmosphere. The Pueblo art and decor throughout the restaurant is beautiful, and the local Indigenous inspired menu makes the whole place feel unique and authentic. Excellent food, great staff, and an aweso experience overall. I'll definitely be coming back anytime I'm in Albuquerque.

It's been there since before I was born in the early 60's. Service was fantastic from the moment I walked in the door. My unsweetened tea was always full. And my enchiladas were delicious. Red chili made my nose run a bit which made it even more perfect! The rice was perfectly done, no added veggies. Beans were great and my enchiladas were great! I love authenticity of this wonderful local restaurant. There's history there. For those who began and those who continue to this beautiful tradition. If you catch it open, take an empty spot on 4th street or in the back. Be prepared to be greeted with kindness and served great food.
