There are so many Korean food choices around Cerritos and La Palma adjacent areas. Nearly all have a specific type of food preparation different from each other. This location has served cold noodle soup (mulnaengmyun) all the years we have come. The most recent owner is also female, and her kitchen and front end staff are all female. By far, this serves the best cold noodle soup and thin chewy buckwheat noodles. The hot summer days certainly bring in a crowd! The side dishes or banchan change frequently, my favorites are the tomato and apple, onion and parsley plus the house made kimchi. Occasionally they have the white or non spicy kimchi which is so delicious and refreshing. We often get the combo cold noodle with beef bulgogi (thin sliced marinated beef) or kalbi (LA style short rib sliced across and marinated then grilled). Love the bossam plate :boiled pork belly served with vegetables for wrapping. Also good is the marinated chicken & veggie wraps combo. The gamjeatang or pork spare rib spicy stew if full of tender pork and stewed vegetables, that I feel is a healthy alternative to the grilled meats. The boochoo neon (I hope I spelled that correctly) or chive pancake is done so well here: tender and crispy on the edges. Great for sharing as an appetizer. They also have a barley dish that is mostly vegetarian with spicy sauce. Very glad they are open daily and until 9 pm (last call is about 830). I came here for dinner with a friend a little before 7pm and was able to get seated right away. I was excited to try this place due to the good reviews and with the previous owners who made amazing naengmyeon I was hoping this new management would be able to carry on the work of the previous one. My mom also tried this place and recommended it, so I felt confident this would be a spot I would be coming often. We ordered the naengmyeon combo with spicy marinated pork and a side of soybean paste stew. The lady was nice when she seated us, but seemed a little bothered when we only ordered the above items, because she coldly asked "if that was all" and we said yes. She walked away then yells back asking if we wanted rice because rice wasn't included, and we said no. Despite the rough start with the vibe of the lady who took our order I was still hopeful the food itself would make up for it. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best. I've never had naengmyeon that had so much chili flakes, and as someone who doesn't mind them, it was weird. The soybean paste soup was bland. And the side dishes were just okay. After the meal, I got really thirsty and my face was puffy so they are using msg. If it was a good meal, I wouldn't have minded the msg, but for food that was mediocre at best was not worth it. This was my first time here, and as a somewhat newbie to authentic Korean food (outside of the trendy Kbbq spots), I was a huge fan! From the friendly service that made us feel like home, to the delicious food, everything hit the spot. We ordered the cold noodle, seafood pancake, bibambap, and short rib combo. All the dishes were so good! And all the banchan that came with it was the cherry on top. The only negative was the table was kind of small for all the dishes...though that could have been user error with us ordering way too much. Portions were surprisingly big, especially the seafood pancake. The whole time, our littlest one was making a mess and the ladies that worked there did not seem perturbed at all, and kept commenting about how cute he was and interacting with him. The banchan also had plenty of flavor and uniqueness that stands out from other Korean restaurants. The service is good and friendly. Keep in mind this is a small spot so they are pretty attentive. With that said, this is not a good place for groups unless you're willing to wait a bit to have the combine tables. The mishap: The steamed pork had plastic on the sides of almost each piece. I brought this up to the waitress who spoke to the kitchen crew and told me that before they steamed it they wrapped it in plastic to make it easier to roll and they must have forgotten to take it off after steaming. At the very least, they owned up to it and apologized. Another thing to note. The parking lot is small (shared lot) and the parking spaces are small too so expect to see people parked on the lines. The driveway is also not very low car friendly, FYI. Overall, if it weren't for the plastic pieces, this would have been perfect. Ambiance/Environment: They have a small indoor space with a decent amount of seating. It's very clean inside. The tables, chairs, booths, and utensils are clean. It's a very casual and welcoming. It wasn't busy at all for a weekday. Service: We were greeted immediately when we entered. Our server was nice, attentive, and efficient. She checked on us a few times. I found a piece of hair in the vegetable wrap, and she was very apologetic and immediately came back with a new vegetable wrap. Our dishes also came out under 15 min after ordering. Food & drinks: You get complimentary tea or hot tea for the table. So delicious! The banchan was marinated to perfection and paired deliciously with the main courses! 1) #22 Spicy Chicken + soybean paste stew + vegetable wrap - The chicken was cooked thoroughly and not spicy at all. It was seasoned well and had a lil kick to it. I made use of the new vegetable wrap by taking a lettuce and placing chicken, carrot, and cucumber and rolling it up. The soybean paste stew was a bit salty for my taste, but perfect for the cold weather. 2) Marinated Beef Hot-Stone Bibimbap - The sizing of the hot-stone plate was large! Stumbled upon this place when the original Korean restaurant I was going to go to up the street from this turned out to be closed. And wow, so glad I decided to drive down for this place! The banchan spread here was beautiful. I was in awe of how the different types plus all the veggies! There was cucumber radish, beansprouts, spinach, eggplant, shishito peppers, a tomato vinegrette salad, jap chae, fish cake, and if I'm missing anything - you can see the pic for yourself. They were all soo delicious! Was feeling under the weather and needed some korean soups/tangs I ordered the gamjatang and to my surprise, they used pork ribs instead of pork neck bones which works too. The potato was cooked to perfection, and broth was flavorful. It was definitely heavier. You get a choice between white or purple rice as well. My partner got the samgyetang and the broth was thicker and creamier than other places! It was definitely different to us because all the other samgyetangs we've had are thinner and lighter broths. Han Mi serves delicious and authentic Korean food in Artesia and I think I am the last to know this. We arrived at 11:30 for lunch. 15 minutes later, all the tables were full of Korean grandmas and grandpas so I already knew the food was going to be fire. I love nakji bokeumbap....i think its called "octopus hot stone rice" and I have eaten it at so many places all over LA. Well they have the best one here at Han Mi. All of the other tables ordered one of their fish stews which looked like overflowing cauldrons. Tucked away in the corner, this place serves amazing food and you know it's a good Korean restaurant when their side dishes are good too. I got the perilla chicken soup and my parents shared the dumpling jongol which is a big pot filled with dumplings, rice cake, veggies and even udon noodles. Both were delicious! Got their Marinated Beef Hot-Stone (Dolsot) Bibimbap and it was delicious! Comes out piping hot and it stayed hot until I had my last bite. No single ingredient overpowered each other which is rare these days. Everything worked so well and I also loved how light their chili paste was. My mom had their Kalguksu and it was honestly really good. So light yet very flavorful. Another huge W for this restaurant is their banchan. I would say the prices here are moderate, but the portions are quite hefty. The seafood pancake was huge and between 4 people it was even too big to finish. The bossam came with a giant plate of fresh veggies to wrap in and lots of banchan to pair with it. The tofu soup was full of flavor and packed with seafood. We did order the cold noodles that came out tasting a bit odd during one of our visits, so the server took my number and the owner called me the very next morning apologizing and asking us to come back "on the house." Stopped by for lunch today since it's rainy out and felt like soup. I got their beef short rib soup and was pleasantly surprised. The short ribs were a bit of a hassle to deal with and cut up so that I can add them to the soup, but the soup was delicious and had a nice flavor. I think next time I'll probably bet the beef rib soup w/cabbage since I wished there was a bit more in the soup. Their banchan was delicious! They had a lot of options that I don't normally get at like the other tofu or kbbq places so I was surprised. I really liked their mac salad since it seems like the sauce was more cheese-based than mayo so that was a nice surprise. The service was pretty fast, granted we were 1 of 2 parties in the restaurant, at 11a and can see this place getting rather busy. I've been here twice now and have enjoyed both experiences. It reminds me of South Korea because the banchans are more unique and they have vegetable wraps here. The banchans include more than the usual basic kimchi and cucumber kimchi. We got eggplant, seaweed, and different types of vegetables. There was also a tomato and apple side that we enjoyed. There were some variations each time we came. We tried their spicy pork vegetable wrap combo and also their boiled pork (suyuk) combo and liked both. We also tried their grilled dried pollock and pollock stew. My husband liked the grilled dried pollock better, but I wasn't much of a fan because of the texture. As for the pollock stew, it was very flavorful, somewhat spicy, and had a lot of vegetables but only three pieces of pollock. Service was great both times and they serve iced barley tea instead of water. Super glad that this new mom n' pop shop still has the spicy buckwheat noodle (bibim naeng myun) on their menu but it's seasonal (summer time only). This place used to be Gombo Wang, a Korean restaurant that specialized in cold/spicy noodles. The owners from Gombo Wang (2.0) aren't the owners for this new restaurant-- so they expanded their menu to include more traditional dishes such as knife-cut noodles and casseroles. I ordered the Bulgogi (marinated beef) Ssam Bap combo which comes with rice, lettuce wraps and a soybean paste stew. This combo definitely gets you the bang for your buck. They also have the Combo for pork and chicken! The staff was very kind, welcoming and efficient in packaging my takeout order. I'll definitely be back to try their cold/spicy noodles in the summer time and am excited to try other items on their menu such as their monkfish and broiled pork belly (bossam) combo. The place is very clean and quaint--can't wait to dine in next time! read more
