GAS can get pretty busy around dinner time, sometimes an hour wait. Luckily we came when it was partially empty! I really liked the decor inside and it matched their whole aesthetic. A lot of gas station decor! Even the bathrooms are decorated! It's actually pretty small inside. Smaller than I thought it would be. We got the Reuben egg rolls which were really tasty and perfectly cooked. The burgers were huge and so good! We also got tomato soup which may have been a lot of food to order. Loved our visit! We loved Wendy our server. We arrived around 2 pm on 12/1 and didn't have long to wait. We were offered menus to look over while we waited. Upon being seated we were asked for our drink order. We ordered the Ruben Bites which were delicious. Our server was Wendy and she was one of the best servers. On April 25, 2p18 at approximately 1754 hours Joe N. And I, Dante G., responded to Gas located at 9 Anastasia Boulevard, which is located in the city of St. Augustine, in reference to dinner. Upon arrival, we entered through the double door centrally located on the A-side of the building. We immediately observed several individuals gathered around the small bar that connects to the interior B-side of the building. The group jumped, as if startled by our presence. We detained a female white, identified as Tiffany. She assisted us to our table, tactically placed at the A-B Corner of the somewhat trendy business. We both purchased a quantity of sweet tea almost immediately and without difficulty. Joe N. started with Reuben Rolls. I then chose the Cuban Burger, doubled. Joe N. went with the Jalepeno Popper burger. As we waited, Joe N. heard whispers of possible contraband pie possession occurring on premises. Staff spoke of Shoo Fly Pie (SFP). As soon as possible, after emptying my mouth full of a delicious Reuben Roll, I interrogated Tiffany as to the validity of the statement as well as the authenticity of the product. She informed me that they did have an amount of SFP available. She further stated that the owner is from Pennsylvania. Our food arrived, fresh and wonderful (see attached photographs). Joe N. received instructions on the appropriate way to consume a Jalepeno Popper Burger. One is to exercise patience and wait for the burger to cool. Then, bisect the burger. Be careful, it is full if Jalepeno lava. Consume as if it were a taco. The Cuban, doubled, was amazing. Pressed bread gave it a good crunch. Spicy mustard oozing out. Fried green tomatoes were awesome with an oniony ranch and the rueben rolls were fresh, crispy and crazy good. We split the half tank which wasn't mind blowing but still a very good burger. When visiting St. Augustine this place was down the street from our house; we saw that GAS was featured on DDD so we had to check it out while we were in town. It was so good that we came here twice in a week! The wait can be quite long, so don't come with an empty stomach. Luckily there is a great patio out front to relax and enjoy the sunset and enjoy a beer or two. Inside is a small classic diner vibe with leather and chrome seating, old gas station decor, and chalkboard Special Menus. The Vegetarian Cuban burger was so delish! I got it both times we visited. Also delicious: the shrimp and grits, and the famous Jalapeño Popper Burger. That this is so massive, there's no way to eat with your hands. It's burger meat mixed up with jalapeños and cheese, the stuffed inside of the popper breading and deep fried. Very messy, but so worth it. We were driving back home from further south along the coast and the family was getting hungry for lunch. A place we've been wanting to try is GAS. A couple of times we've missed it as their main sign was ripped down from Hurricane Irma. But there is a sign right in front of the restaurant so that we knew we were in the right place. For those looking, it is next to the Candlelight. The inside is kind of small. There are a bunch of small tables. Depending upon when you get there, you might be able to put together a few tables for a large group. We were seated immediately. Our waitress stopped by and took our drink orders. After a few minutes of reviewing the menu, we each placed our orders. A short wait and out comes our dishes. Overall the food was real tasty. My wife had a fish sandwich which she liked. The kids enjoyed their sandwiches as well. I ordered the tropical wings which were really good. Since it was lunch time and we were driving, we didn't order any of the beers that they had. Parking is not great, and the place is tiny. But the food was awesome. I had the famous stuffed jalapeno burger and it did not disappoint. It was a challenge in itself trying to eat it, but oh my gosh it was good. There are not a lot of memorable burgers but this one will stay with me for a while. Go check it out! read more

After seeing Bobby Dean speak profess his love for the Jalepeno Popper Burger on Guilty Pleasures, I knew this was a must stop even though it's a bit off the route. I was totally intimated and I'm not the biggest Burger fan of any Burger that is but wow I would never have imagined how much I would love this. To start off the location is so cute, really great gas station furnishings. It's very casual but bright, sunny and appeared to be very clean. Our waitress was sweet and put our Burger order right away since we told her we were on a schedule and the location was further then we thought. Well it comes out and no joke it's bigger then my head. We cut it in half since we were splitting it and the plan was to only take a few small bites since we had many other TV restaurants to visit. It's a soft yet very sturdy bun, grizzled onions, pickles, then you reach that perfectly crisp Panko battered double patty Burger and in the center of the meat is stuffed with cream cheese and Jalepeno's. Ok, this place is as good as you guys said. I went for the 1/2 pound char burger. Man! It was excellent, you need no condiments, the lettuce, tomato and onion added the perfect combination of flavor. We have been vacationing in St. Augustine for many years and as a result, have curated a list of our favorite local eateries. Each year we look forward to dining at what we consider to be the best St. John's county has to offer, and for years, we have driven past Gas Full Service and said "maybe next year." Upon our virginal dining experience there tonight, it has been promptly added to the all-star list. The relaxed but attentive service, the laid back local atmosphere and the fantastic beer selection would each in their own right have been reason enough to try this tastefully themed restaurant. But best of all was the food itself. The swordfish was perfectly cooked, the burgers made with freshground local beef, even the side dishes were bursting with flavor and originality. We just happened to be passing through St. Augustine and read a couple of reviews about this restaurant so we decided to stop and to give it a try. A very good decision. It's clean, comfortable and the food is outstanding. The shrimp po' boy is absolutely wonderful. It's over stuffed, dressed and served on bread made at the restaurant. The shrimp are fresh caught and huge. You better be hungry because this is one big, handful of a sandwich. We also ordered the peanut butter pie and it alone is worth the trip to eat here. Delicious. Our seven member family ate here for dinner tonight, and it was fabulous! We each totally enjoyed everything we ordered, which is rare for us. We started with three appetizers: loaded potato chips (house made waffle chips covered in blue cheese béchamel & then topped with bacon & scallions), chicken wings (sauced with soy, lime, ginger sauce), and the most amazing...Reuben Roll (reuben in an egg roll form with a horseradish russian sauce for dipping). The main course came next: meatloaf wrapped in bacon, portabella mushrooms with sliced tomatoes smothered in sauce, chicken pot pie biscuits over mashed potatoes, blackened blue cheese burger with bacon, and double cheeseburger with jalapeño pepper jack cheese (burgers are from grass fed beef that is ground fresh in-house). The sides were so good: creamed spinach with sun-dried tomatoes, pickled vegetables (my sister and I could have eaten ten servings of this side), sweet potato fries, regular fries and asian slaw. Of course we stole bites from each other because we were all loving what each of us was eating. Dessert sounded too yummy to skip, so we ordered three to share: coconut custard pie with a brûlée top, brownies with sea-salt caramel topped with vanilla ice cream, and peanut butter mousse covered with a crust of half Oreo and half Nutter Butter then dolloped with whipped cream and two pieces of house-made peanut butter fudge. And last, but not least, the service was just as awesome as the food. Our waitress was super friendly and funny, and handled our multiple check family dinner with ease. My husband and I dined at GAS a few years ago while we were in town for a wedding and remembered it being good. While in town again and after reading rave Yelp reviews we decided to stop in. Unfortunately they didn't live up to the hype. We arrived around 1pm on a weekday right before the New Year and it was a 20 minute wait. That was fine, we figured it must be good if there was a wait. The hostess was friendly and gave us a menu to look over while we waited outside. Once seated our table was very sticky, but we were hungry and usually aren't complainers, so we let it fly. Our waitress was very friendly, took our order promptly, and brought our drinks. We ordered the house chips as an appetizer and they were delicious. While we were chowing down on chips we overheard another table speaking to the manager about their undercooked burger and long wait time. I didn't think anything of it until I overheard another table complaining. Yikes, red flag! That's where the real waiting began...it took a long, long time to receive the rest of our meal. Once our entrees arrived the fries were hot, but the burgers were cold. My husband ordered his burger medium well, but it was medium rare and my black bean burger was warm on the outside, but not on the inside (and just not very good in general). We had already been waiting so long that we just didn't want to wait any longer, so we just flagged our waitress down and asked for the check. She was taking forever to come back over, so we left cash on the table and bailed. Honestly, I'd give GAS 2.5 stars, but that's not an option on Yelp, so I rounded up to 3. Sadly I delayed this review so long that I can't remember the details besides it was the highlight of the trip. The few key fact's I remember are that they had awesome service and the best burger I've ever had in my entire life without a drop of exaggeration included. Not just a 5-star, not a great burger, but seriously, the best that I've ever had in my few decades that I've been eating burgers. #1 on that list of countless burgers I've consumed. A garden of onion strings, enough to fill up a bucket for just a few dollars is borderline the same significance as a hearing a beatles song performed live. This place has it locked down. If you can make it here, you must. If you find an excuse not to try this burger, it's only doing yourself a disservice. The best I've ever had in my entire life. I have driven by this place many times and was always curious. I finally stopped in after having some drinks at British Pub. I ordered the burger with the blue cheese and asked them to make it bunless and medium rare. OMG, sooo good. I also got the creamed spinach as a premium side, very delicious as well. I am on the ketogenic diet as you can tell. I would have given five stars but my friend ordered the jalapeno popper burger and he said he didnt taste any jalapeno, strange! He said it was delicious though. He also had the salted caramel brownie which he said was out of this world. I couldnt have any of course:( Will be back for sure to try more things! read more
