If you have a gyro from here, hopefully you get the owner lady to make it for you. She definitely makes it better than anyone else here hands down. I usually ask for the gyro to be spicy, and she's the best at perfecting the flavor combination. They have two sizes for the gyro, regular and large. It's not worth it to get the bigger size since it's not that much larger considering how much more they charge for it. The fries here are alright, they're not best but they're not that greasy as well. I don't like that their combo meal doesn't come with a soda but just with fries. Usually combos come with both so that was disappointing. The main reason why I come here is because of their gyros. The place here definitely smaller but it's usually not that busy in the evenings to find a seat. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so parking isn't an issue. I gave this place a second chance as I really want to like their food. But the lettuce and veggies are not fresh, they have an odor (for my past 2 orders). I ordered a falafel platter which was supposed to have 4 falafels, instead I received 3 falafels and some fries. Not sure how this place gets such raving reviews. First and foremost, the portions are a pathetic excuse for a "meal". I paid $13 for a wimpy little gyro wrap most places would charge $6-7 for. The beef was, but nothing special. It could've used some seasoning. On top of the mediocre beef, the gyro was mostly filled to the brim with lettuce and onion. It was about 1/4 beef and 1/8 tomatoes. Again, not justifiable given I paid $13 just for the sandwich with no sides and no drink. The sauce was decent, pretty much tasted like any other generic tahini sauce. I wish I could've gotten a refund upon seeing how tiny the portions were, but it wasn't worth the fuss. The obvious rebuttal is "Well, you should have checked the prices." Fact of the matter was that I did. According to the menu a regular steak gyro is 9.99 - I was charged $13. The workers, while prompt because no one else was there, seemed incompetent and untrained. When the cashier took my order he seemed to not know what I was talking about, and the cook had a hard time understanding him. Maybe I was charged for the plate instead, who knows. The order details on the screen just read "Steak Gyros", so I assumed it was correct. I came here hoping to explore different hole-in-the-wall restaurants for some authentic food. If you're looking for good Mediterranean food with tender, juicy meat at twice the portions for the price, go to Mediterranean Bite down the street. I so rarely leave negative reviews, but I was so disappointed that I had to share. I'm pretty forgiving with food, so for me to give 1 star is a lot. Falafel. I love falafel. Even the worst falafel tastes good, they just tend to be dry. Gaters' falafel tasted terrible. Like -- rotten. Like a zingy taste that did not belong. Like they grabbed a bag from the back of the freezer that had been sitting there for years and then microwaved them. It was actually nasty. Kefka. It was dry as kefka often is. However this Kefka was SO HOT. I opened it up and it was mostly GREEN from all the peppers. We eat a lot of spicy food, but this was too spicy, we couldn't eat it. Hummus. I love hummus... mmm... Not today, it was bitter and not fun. Garlic sauce. I paid $0.75 extra to get some garlic sauce. That by itself is ridiculous. Whats more ridiculous is that their idea of garlic sauce is a bunch of minced up RAW GARLIC. Have you eaten raw garlic? No! Nobody eat's raw garlic, it's absolutely awful. You saute garlic before you eat it. I'm not being picky, seriously try eating raw garlic -- it's disgusting. Cooked garlic is great. I'm new to this area and on the hunt for good Mediterranean... They ran my credit card and charged me $15.32 for a large gyro with no fries, despite asking for fries. I then received my food to learn that they do not have fries. After asking about the fries and the outrageous price, the female employee looked at me and walked away as if my concern didn't matter. Gaters is a must-try! I personally love, LOVE, middle eastern food, and so I'm always trying new middle eastern restaurants. While I'm by no mean an expert in this particular cuisine, I can honestly say that the food here is absolutely drool-worthy. Normally I get the gyro wrap, and I think it's a fail-proof choice for those not familiar with this cuisine or not sure what they want. However, this time I decided I was craving some basmati rice and so went with the chicken plate. The chicken plate did not disappoint! The chicken was packed with flavor, the basmati rice is fluffy and perfect coupled with the meat. The HUMMUS, house-made, fresh, no preservatives (seems like), and all-around perfect. For the gyro wrap, you can order it with a side of fries for an additional charge. Although fresh, they can sometimes forget to include it with your order (happened twice to me now!) Service was very friendly and fast. The restaurant space is on the smaller side, but kept clean. Have been coming here for a few years now, will continue to be back as long as service, food quality/portion/price stays reasonable! read more

Oh Gaters, you had me at your COMBO PLATES. Located in the Fremont Plaza Shopping Center, Gater's is a really really small restaurant with only a few tables and seats inside. I've had Gater's a few times now and I have tried their Combination Plate, Chicken Garlic Wrap, Grilled Steak Wrap, and a few bites of their other wraps (not gyros yet) but I forgot which ones :P I was super happy that I finally got the chance to try their Combination Plate (thin marinated slices of chicken and steak over basmati rice, served with side of hummus, greek salad and pita bread) because it's suppose to be the best thing here. Damn, for about $8.99 I think this plate is worth it and it's a good amount of food as well! I think out of all the wraps I really liked the Chicken Garlic Wrap...just cause I like garlic too :) Definitely ask for yogurt sauce with these wraps because it will taste a lot better! As for service...I think it is meh. I've experience both service through the phone and in person. My work usually orders from Gater's a lot so there was a few times when Gater's messed up our orders. Though it's probably because they are busy...I don't know. Other than that, people here are pretty friendly. On the plus side, with a Yelp check-in you get free Hummus with a purchase of $15 or more! Plenty of parking. The restaurant is pretty tiny. I would not describe this place as a dive but it is definitely casual. From what I recall they had no more than a handful of tables that seat 2 or 4 comfortably. The food is all made to order. I presented my yelpy check-in offer to the owner and she hooked me up with extra meat with my orders and a bottled water. It sure does pay to be an elite' jk but my tummy appreciated it very much :) We ordered the combination plate, marinated chicken, hummus, greek salad, pita bread - all on point! Delish! We ordered food and started waiting the first thing i noticed the person who was grilling chicken wasn't wearing mask and gloves at all. i requested him to wear mask he did and started making chicken again i was ok with it. the 2nd thing we noticed owner's (fadi) friend came there and wanted to get bakhlawa and they hug each took money from him and started working again without washing or santizing hands. his friend took bakhlwa out with his hands touching all rest of the bakhlawas which they gonna sell it to other people. i immediately complained that to fadi (owner) that he touched all the bakhlawas and was not even wearing mask. he replied " WHO CARES??? WE ALL GONNA DIE ONE DAY HABEEBI . TODAY OR TOMORROW WE GONNA DIE . NOBODY CARES, ITS ALL GOOD" i told him No!! this is not a way please wash your hands you kept shaking hands and keep touching your mask keeps touching food with same hands please sanitize or wash them. i was so disappointed with his answer me and my friend looked at each other and decided to see what they do next. after complaining fadi (owner) didn't put any effort to wash or sanitize his hand . he went straight and started touching bread and chicken on the grill . took it off from there bring it to salad station started putting salad with dirty hands in my gyros. we got so upset And i instantly told him i dont want it you can keep the money and gyros both i dont want it at all. he replied " ITS OK I TOLD YOU EVERYONE GONNA DIE ONE DAY GIVE ME YOUR CARD I WILL GIVE YOU REFUND". From the outside Gater's doesn't look that promising. You walk up expecting something not so Mediterranean and blah. Something that has turned completely Americanized, but man, I was wrong. Lamb and chicken plate: The lamb was amazing. Thin slices of heaven. Juicy, flavorful and tender. The chicken was good too, however, I was a bigger fan of the lamb gyros. The best thing is their tzazeki (yogurt sauce). I've never had tzazeki with such an intense flavor - so bomb. Ask for extra, you won't regret it. The basmati rice was good but I didn't care for the cucumber salad that came with the plate. The only knock I have on this place is that the serving was a tad on the small side. I've read other reviews jizzing over their portions but I had a different experience. It was enough food for one person but I was HUNGRY. The portions and cucumber salad forced me to only give 4 stars. But don't be discouraged - try Gater's asap! I'll for sure be going back. Oh, I almost forgot. I have to give a big shout out to their staff. The guy who took my order (I don't know his name) was a real cool dude. Just a totally chills and nice guy. When I showed up to pick up my food, the same guy just kept saying "I personally made your plate for you. It's a great plate, you'll love it.". Hole in the wall that has delicious food for cheap prices! The steak gyro combo for $8.50 is amazing. Gyro is perfectly seasoned, veggies are fresh and both are a generous amount. Pita is also warm and soft! Ask for a side of the yogurt taziki to pour over the gyro to make it even more delicious. Combo comes with thin fries that are very crispy. The fries could use some salt but dunk it in ketchup and it's no longer an issue. Spend $15, check in on yelp and get a container of their hummus for free! Their hummus tastes like its freshly made too which is a huge plus. They include a piece of pita bread for the hummus. This place gets pretty crowded.
