Delicious food but a bit pricey And small portions/servings

My friend and I were looking for a deliciously affordable lunch delight and since she is a Fremont resident she said Gaters was the spot. I ordered the garlic chicken wrap with fries. Highly recommend! Every dish is cooked so quick and favorful. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Hot Tip: Make sure to ask for the white sauce. Maybe even extra! We couldn't decide between Aniki Sushi & Gater's Kabob Hut, but since they were right next to each other, we decided to figure it out once we got there. Aniki had a wait time of one hour, while Gater's was more of a take-out place and sparsely populated. As it was already late and we had our baby and my dad with us, we chose the path less traveled. The guy at the grill recommended the following dishes: - Steak Gyro Wrap - Thin marinated slice of steak, tomatoes, lettuce seasoned onions, tzatziki sauce on pita bread - Vegetarian Plate - 2 falafels, 2 dolmas, hummus, baba ghannouj, Mediterranean salad, and pita bread - Combination Plate - Thin marinated slice of steak and chicken over basmati rice, with side of hummus and side of salad and pita bread My take on the Gyro: Reasonably decent, but nothing extraordinary. The steak tasted okay, but there was too much flavorless grocery store chopped lettuce and tomato, and the tzatziki didn't really taste traditional--almost like they mixed a little Ranch into it, and it wasn't a big yummy glob, but distributed evenly and sparsely within the wrap. My take on the Vegetarian Plate: Pretty good. Falafels are falafels and all taste the same to this heathen. Dolmas were just about right and had that little kick as if they were carbonated or something. The hummus was just so-so, and the baba ghannouj could've been more interesting, and not in a tastes-like-toothpaste kinda way. Salad was just meh, and the pita was essentially grocery store pita. My take on the Combination Plate: While this wasn't mind-blowing, it was clearly the best of the three dishes. The basmati was nice, oily, & moist, the steak and chicken were soft and tender, and the side of yogurt was perfect to dip each bite into. Ordered online (1 large lamb gyro, garlic sauce, falafel plate and side of combo meat). My order took more than one hour to get here (I live 6 min away) and I needed to contact support since the app was showing that something went wrong. When the order finally arrived, only falafels in a very sweaty bag. Very disappointing. Extremely unpleasant experience. On a hot sunny day you can grab a table and chair outside and they will bring your food right out to you. The staff is always very friendly. The negative and its not the food... The food taste alright. The lamb was fresh. My only grievance is the quantity of the food that you receive for the price that is paid. Each kabob plate states that the meal comes with 2 skewers of meat. What I received was 6 pieces of meat. It seems they use toothpicks as skewers. I might go back to this place if they "Up" their game on quantity. read more

The place itself is very cramped. When I go there with my wife, it was kind of messy. Packs of water laying in the corner and tables were not very clean. They had some crumbs and little pieces of veggies on it. A) Two stars go to the super friendly man who was helping us with the order. But that is all. B) I wanted to eat Kabob but I was told that they don't have it. So I have to order non Kabob combo plate of Chicken, lamb and Kefta. Usually, when I order the food, I always finish it. But this time was an exception. Combo was just ok. I could have make it myself if I wanted to be lazy and stay home. C) Garlic fries that we ordered was bland and didn't even smell like garlic. Usually, fries come with some kind of sauce to dip the fries in but there was none. Good thing we got Humus for free, since our order was more that $15. D) Now the Dolma. Normally I don't care about the price of the food if it's really good but $2.50 for 3 super tiny dolmas, really? And it doesn't even have ground beef. I think they were stuffed with rice. E) don't know about my wife's food but she obviously was not happy with it. Didn't finish it either. F) Lastly, location of the register..definitely inconvenient. They put a table right in front of the counter where the cash register is at and when we were there, there was a couple eating at that table. Got the garlic chicken wrap. The wrap was a bit dry. I thought it would be fluffy and soft. The fillings were pretty goid. Chicken could have been a bit jucier. Barely tasted the garlic unless eating the chicken alone. I ordered pickup through yelp and they told me an estimate time would be an hour. When i arrived, the restaurant said it was ready 30 mins prior so our food was cold. Our fries got soggy. I dont know if it was the restaurants mistake on the time or yelp. read more

Yummy Mediterranean eats situated mid-Mowry. My go-to is the chicken and rice but tonight we felt like eating healthy and went for the salad. In fact, we ordered six chicken salads. Salad comes with chopped cucumber, chopped tomatoes, sliced red onion on chopped romaine lettuce tossed in something acidic, like a lemon juice and water mixture. Really simple and needs something more, like an actual salad dressing. Oil and vinegar might help? Seasoning on the chicken was spicier than usual so not everyone was a fan. Foods gone downhill. I've been coming here for years but my recent order was just so wrong on so many levels 1. I ordered the chicken plate and it definitely didn't taste like chicken. The rice tasted like the boxed instant rice o' phony kind. Hummus was incredibly runny and the salad ... not sure what was going on there. 2. Also, I ordered the gyro. I got a kebab plate instead. They clearly got my order wrong. I was stupid hungry so I took it anyway. Kebabs were tough and disappointing as for the rest of the contents in the to go box. I love the fact that this is a "hole in the wall" Mediterranean grill. It's located in a tiny place in a busy shopping center with only a couple of high tables, mostly meant for quick pick ups to go. Gaters used to be one of my favorites, until they changed owners. They've kept mostly the same menu but for some reason the wraps, hummus, even the meat just doesn't taste as good or fresh. I was craving something quick to eat (chicken) that wasn't heavy or fast food but was flavorful. I don't usually find myself in Fremont but my husband does and suggested kabobs. We found ourselves at Gaters. I wasn't sure what chicken to choose but I wanted a wrap. The friendly gentleman working there suggested that I have the garlic chicken wrap - spicy. The meat was *very* flavorful and savory. The wrap was light (not too much bread) and tasty. The tomatoes, lettuce and onions inside were fresh. Each bite was an explosion of yummy goodness. I left quite satisfied and not overfull. Mission accomplished! I definitely plan to come back next time I find myself in Fremont and ready to grab a bite to eat. Not only was the food better than I expected, the service was friendly, prompt and the food was served quickly. Price was about what I would expect to pay - neither cheap nor expensive. My co-worker eats here everyday...literally. Now I know why. Today, I ordered the same as him. The Lamb/Chicken Combo. YUM-O!!! It was so delicious and a good portion size for the price. The lamb was tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The chicken was cut bite size and perfectly cooked, not dry. The yogurt sauce was a great match to the delicious meats. Whoooo hoooo!! I love trying new places and then finding out their just delicious! :) It's such a small place and I've lived in Fremont for more than 7 years and never knew about this place. Well today, I finally got to try them out and I liked! However, their are some pros and cons: Cons: I came here earlier like right when they opened to find that the gyro meat was not ready because the they were cooking other meat. I would have to wait another 20mins which normally I wouldn't care but I had to be at work soon so I ended up leaving. I came back for dinner and ate in their restaurant. The place is small and when I got the food, they didn't have knives or spoons so ended up using two forks. Pros: what can I say, the food is good. I ordered the euro plate and the meat is super tender and tasty. I might have wrote more on the cons side but really when all is said and done, it's about the food and I would come back to this place because the food is good. The worst falafel I have had ever! They burnt the whole thing, there was no flavor in the filling. The falafel wrap we got had more wrap and barely any filling. The tahini sauce that they 'packed' for us in cups without lids with aluminum foil around it! How does a take out place run out of lids!? We were literally scooping the sauce from aluminum foil. Very disappointing experience. Hope other Gaters outlets are better. Never going back here again for sure. read more

I love this place! Their steak gyro is the best!! The meat is tender, very well seasoned, and tasty ($6). The rest of the ingredients are also very fresh and crisp. Their platters ($9) are good too, but I usually prefer something a bit smaller. The only dislike is that its a very small place. They have a few tables cramped together inside, but its gets easily crowded and because of that, we normally order to go. They also have seating outside, but its quite difficult to eat when your hair in blowing in all different directions. I absolutely love this place. Like seriously their food brings tears of joy in my eyes. This has to be my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the whole world. The portion sizes are amazing and they are so generous with it. It's always cooked hot and fresh and full of flavor. I always finish in a food coma. They deserve more than 5 stars. First thing - the gyros are good here and is the only reason for our multiple visits however, there are a bunch of complaints here mostly around the customer service. The fries are good but whether we order one or two orders, we get the same amount and are told that that same amount is the correct number of orders of fries. Next, when we order tatziki on the side they always only give us one side regardless of the number of sides we order. Lastly, it is the way I am treated when I pick up my food - as a woman, I feel very uncomfortable when I go in there with the eyes of the cook / server feeling like they are undressing me as well as common misgendering where they end sentences with Sir. I do not know if this is a religious thing, or a cultural thing but whatever it is it is definitely rude and leaves a bad taste in my mouth for having to visit this place. read more

1. First of all the guys behind the counter weren't willing to make chicken kebab and were pushing us to get chicken shawarma instead because it was already cooked. 2. After that we got the food served in paper plate and plastic fork. $13 per plate and I get it served in paper plate. 3. We got 2 chicken skewers (sound reasonable) BUT both had 3 tiny pieces of chicken. P.S : the restaurant (can't even call it a restaurant) was messy and dirty.
