We recently visited Gather for a birthday dinner. This was our second time having gone before for their Happy Hour. We were impressed with that 1st visit so we decided to go back for dinner. This second time we left not so thrilled. The service was off par. The food was good. Can't say excellent, some of the dishes were missing that wow factor. Especially, when paying $$30-$40 per plate. We had 2 waiters assigned to our party of 6. Which at first we were impressed. But they never came back to refill our waters or ask if we wanted additional beverages. They lost out on revenue because we really wanted to celebrate. I must also say we went in late, so most tables were leaving. The final kicker was both waiters happened to forget the birthday celebration, as they were advised when we sat down. And we advised when we made the reservation. And it wasn't we were expecting something grand, but a simple ice cream scoop with a candle would have sufficed. I guess the service didn't matter as our tip was included on the bill. In town for Sailing School and heard this was "the place to go". And it was. Mind you, it's not the place where you're gonna get any bargains. But what you will get is QUALITY. Quality food, quality craft cocktails, quality service and some nice live acoustic music ambience to boot. I had the Brussels Sprouts which were mind-blowingly good. This could have been my whole meal. But then I had to have the Charcuterie Board - which was also a home run and plentiful in proportion. My wife and I stayed in Cape Coral this weekend and went to Gather three times, twice for Brunch and once for dinner. The food is very good and the service is good as well, although one bartender found it fun to constantly yell across the bar at her favorite customers which got really annoying. I recommend the Corn Beef Hash, which is good but I wish it came with two eggs instead of one. For dinner the two recommendations are the burger (MR) and the risotto. I have been here twice and only for dessert. I do plan on going for a regular meal one of these days. What I liked so far was the atmosphere and the staff were pretty nice. This dessert was a favorite by my group yesterday that we ended up ordering two of them. If you like dark chocolate, white chocolate or coconut, you'll love this. It even has gold flakes. The cake was moist and felt the chocolates were balanced by the coconut, which surprisingly didn't make this dessert super sweet. I will update this review when i have an actual meal here. I moved here a year ago, I leave 3 minutes away from the restaurant and always wanted to try the food since it looks like the chef does amazing things. I was wrong! The menu is over priced. Everything is so expensive and honestly no flavor at all. I know how to make pasta from scratch, my daughter bolognese sauce was whatever and the pasta was hard. I ordered the burrata salad, that was "ok" with an artisan bread with lots of butter to have some taste. I got the crab pasta with lot of kale. No flavor at all and very incredible expensive. Bad experience this trip. On 5/7 we witnessed the bartender marrying bottles of alcohol (pooring one bottle's contents into another), this was done right in front of customers. Aside from being illegal in all 50 states and reason to pull a businesses liquor license, it takes away the customers confidence that the product received is what was ordered. It leaves you wondering what else the business is cheating. Time to provide some training to your bartenders. read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Love the area, shame the hurricane did a number on the marina, but things are coming back. Gather looks like it was never touched by the hurricane, which speaks to a clear desire to get back to normalcy. While the ambiance was cool, the experience and the meal left a whole lot to be desired. Their hearts were in the right place, and the menu was intriguing, but execution was lacking. In certain areas, basics were fumbled, hence the three stars. It was busy that night, and we were seated promptly. There are three dining areas--the bar, where the mixologists' skills are on full display, the adjacent dark loungey vibe area with couches and low tables, and the main eating area which is more brightly lit and full of air conditioners going full blast. There was also a singer there that night who seemed like she wanted to be heard over the (loud) ambient noise, which didn't exactly go over particularly well. I'd say try to sit at the bar, where it's darker, quieter, and you can see the most redeeming part of this place (the drinks) being expertly made. I saw previous reviews that said some people felt as though they were ignored once seated, and indeed I began to worry after maybe 10 minutes that we'd join the ranks of the forgotten, but our server came by and apologized for the wait. Drinks were ordered. Hostess came by, too, making sure somebody was taking care of us. They must've read reviews, and are making an effort to correct their missteps, which is absolutely commendable. As mentioned earlier, drinks were fantastic. I wish my Tropic Thunder was a bit boozier, but their Old Fashioned (aka the Rockefeller) was on point. The Mrs. enjoyed her Samurai Sour. I think that were we to come back, we'd sit at the bar, have a couple of drinks, order a simple appetizer or two, and be content. As for which appetizer or two, well, it wouldn't be the wagyu meatball or the (special) wagyu musubi. Both were disappointing, especially the $30+ musubi. Now, if you've never had musubi, its usually a seared block of spam secured to a block of sushi rice with some seaweed and covered with a sweet/salty soy/teriyaki thing. Salty umami bombs of poor-man's decadence. Unfortunately, the upscale wagyu version was anything but. The meat lacked any beef flavor, was woefully under-seasoned, and had no sear to impart any variation of texture. The black garlic molasses sauce just tasted of pink peppercorn and a hint of vegetable oil. And, my biggest gripe of all, the rice was cold, mealy, and absolutely stale. For the price being charged, completely missing the mark on the very basic tenet of rice cookery was deplorable. Overall, the dish was a great idea on paper, but sophomoric when attempted. Just give me a block of spam next time. And the wagyu meatballs were nothing special, either. Likely made from the ground up trimmings of their other wagyu dish(es), these were very dry and very bland. The red sauce was good, but didn't salvage the meat. Maybe throw in some uncured pork belly or just a fatty slab of chuck roast into the mix? Just a thought. The mains were better. Serviceable, but not spectacular. My wife enjoyed her grouper and pasta, though I thought her velouté was under-seasoned and over-reduced, almost like a really thinned out...cream cheese. I ordered their paella, which was pretty tasty, but certainly wasn't a paella. Maybe paella-adjacent. Call it a seafood risotto and I wouldn't argue. Shrimp were good. Clams were tiny. Sausage was fine. Description also says salsa verde...? Nah, dawg, no salsa here, verde or otherwise. At least they finally found the salt, because this was seasoned well. We ended with the Coconut Opera, which was a lovely patisserie-esque offering, though the ganache and buttercream were fairly subdued. The coconut sorbet was freezer-burned or something, but still edible. Felt super fancy eating the gold leaf, too. Overall, I thought it was a decent meal, but nothing special. This might just be a drinks and apps place for us. No more ordering $35 wagyu musubi specials like a rube, though, that's for sure. Live and learn. read more

Came here a few weekends ago to attend the comedy show brunch. Comedian was great but the service was horrible. We got there 45 minutes before the comedian took the stage and yet our waitress did not take our order until the main comedian was already in his act. We finally got our food 15 minutes before his set ended. To add insult to injury we were seated right next to the comedian so it was a distraction to the show. The food tasted good but by that point i was starving (arrived at 12:30 did not eat until after 2pm) so I can't honestly give a review of the food. On Monday I attended the monthly Gather/Fathoms chefs tasting dinner and it was amazing. This one had a Christmas theme and was held inside Fathoms. The restaurant was decorated so festively with little Christmas trees as the centerpiece and lights everywhere along with holiday music in the background. All of the staff and many of the guests were also dressed in Christmas attire. This was a 6 course tasting paired with wine provided by Palace Pub and Wine Bar. It was $110 per person plus tip so not inexpensive by any means but a fantastic special night out or impressive date night. The quality of the food, drink and service were worth the price IMHO. And this is an intimate dinner, I don't think there were more than 30 guests dining. Included in my photos are the menu and photos of the food. I ate everything even though I thought I wouldn't. The squab, which I was most "iffy" about was one of my favorites of the night as were the dopio (ravioli filled two ways), and the amuse bouche the salmon nigiri on the crispy rice cake. Solid brunch on New Year's Day. 6 of us a great time with our brunch outing after a New Year's Eve Karaoke centered celebration. All three ladies opted for the shrimp and grits and all of them were raving fans with clean bowels! Two orders of the breakfast burritos and one Huevos Rancheros and the men were set to go to soak up some of their Elvis Presley liquid courage from the night before. Really good server even though she had tables inside and outside plus a man bun DJ to move around. Got to admit I was a bit jealous of Mr DJ set up since the Karoke was still in my blood. Continue your search. First you must realize that this restaurant is inside the Westin resort complex and so, as hotel complex's go, they have a captive audience, high customer throughput, and limited selection within the complex therefore it gets a lot of mostly 5 star reviews and this is not a 5 star restaurant. Party of 4. We made reservations for 6pm and were seated quickly. We skipped appetizers and ordered drinks and our main course. The menu is unique with a good but small selection. Drinks came quickly and we were able to have a great conversation before the food arrived. Sea food paella, flat bread pizza and blue crab with homemade pasta. This is where the 3 stars were earned. The blue crab could have been delicious but they red pepper flakes overpowered the dish. The flatbread came with so much arugula piled on top that you had to search for the bread- the bread was good however. The paella was on the smaller size of paella dishes that I have had and the overall taste was average. The service was underwhelming at best. The lead waiter was doing all he could but the other waitstaff seemed to wonder around searching for butterflies, but once you got their attention they were very attentive. I do understand that the service industry is struggling right now on staffing, so this may simply be the best they can do. So to summarize- Cape Coral has other gems out there that are worth the search. If you are at the Westin and don't want to drive to a restaurant this is a good choice, just not 5 stars. I came here for Easter brunch and now a work meeting for lunch. Both times I've been pleasantly surprised by the decor, food, and service. For Easter since it's busier, it's hard to say how great it can be. All I'll say is that the spread is great and they're service held up to such big crowds. For my work meeting, they were less busy on a Sunday afternoon and things worked faster. Our server was very attentive and super nice. I ordered the chicken wrap and it was delish. There was a larger group watching some football game and a few random couples and families. What I noticed was that I never felt crowded or forgotten. I also noticed the majority of the people there were on the younger side which sometimes in cape Coral...is not the norm. I vote for Easter brunch here again. Wow! Delicious! We stumbled upon this restaurant after a friend recommended tarpon point marina. We ordered the curry cauliflower, deviled eggs, ahi tuna and the shrimp and chorizo with grilled bread. First off, the curry cauliflower was amazing, you didn't miss having no meat in this dish, perfect mix of spicy curry with the sweet from the raisins and edamame made a perfect balance. The ahi tuna came on a bed of cabbage and cashews with a fabulous citrus sauce that was delicious and fresh. I literally had to keep my husband from licking the bowl of sauce that 6 came with the shrimp and chorizo appetizers, as a matter of fact we ordered some more bread to lap up the delicious sauce!
