This location is very very small and you are very close to the people next to you. I came here by recommendation from a coworker and it lived up to expectations! The restaurant has a handful of tables on the inside and they were consistently filled up during my stay there. I ordered the garlic naan, chicken biryani, paneer and dal. My favorite dish was the chicken biryani which comes out with a naan-like covering and they cut it open in front of you to reveal the chicken biryani underneath. Had reservations for this place at 7:30 pm on a Wednesday evening. It's a really small space so seating is quite right but loved the art work and friendly staff who are very accommodating and attentive. Had high expectations coming in, as I had read about the Punjabi and Hyderabadi owner/chef duo that run the place... regions with my favorite cuisines from biriyani to tandoori. It's on the smaller side, I probably wouldn't recommend for groups 4+ unless you don't being crammed in. Paneer tikka was my favorite dish, very soft and fresh paneer topped with some watercress and greens. Kori sukka was also very flavorful and spicy, basically a chicken 65. Sadly, I had the highest hopes for the chicken biriyani with its beautiful presentation, parda style. However, it seems we came on an off day... the chicken was unevenly cooked with some parts very undercooked, pink and slimy in some parts. Went to this place on a Friday evening of the long weekend. I can't bring myself to give them less stars because the food was 5/5. However, the ambiance was 3/5. The tables are too close together and everything is very loud. They need to buy a bigger space given their quality of food is so good. Would love to go again at a quieter time. We started off with Kori Sukha and BokChoy chat both of which were perfectly spiced dishes. They had the perfect amount of hotness as well (neither too much nor too little). Such a cute local Indian food spot with a twist! This roadside restaurant is small, but the food is mighty! I stumbled across this restaurant randomly by searching for Indian Restaurants near me, and i do not regret going here! The staff is friendly and helpful when ordering and asking for recommendations. Based off of their rec, I ordered the Beet Dahi Puri, which I was hesitant about at first because of the beet, but when I finally tried it, I realized how amazing it was! The decor and interior had a modern twist to it with its paintings and wall art which had Indian influence with an Americanized personality. Gazab replaced the Masalawala, a beloved Indian restaurant with a fun name and owner who would take it upon himself to order food for your table you didn't ask for but would bill you for, assuring you you'd like it. That was actually part of the charm of the place, and the prices of the dish were low enough that most people didn't mind, and the food was good. In this new iteration of the restaurant the service is thankfully much less pushy and quite gracious, but the food felt less cohesive and flavorful. Since they received a lot of praise on the restaurant review site circuit I was surprised to find the restaurant sitting relatively empty on a recent Friday night. In many ways the city has not yet roared back to its prime just yet. Though we were one of just a couple of tables at the restaurant our food took a very long time to come out of the kitchen, which might just have to do with the preparation of the dishes. We wouldn't have minded the wait time had we been warned about it, or if we enjoyed the dishes, but sadly we just didn't. The Jackfruit Khadi Pakoda made with chickpea yogurt curry had a very tangy flavor profile with no additional umami to balance out the flavor. Similarly, the Goan Shrimp curry, a dish we order relatively often at restaurants felt very flat and one note. We don't find ourselves criticizing dishes that often because most chefs make food that is better than anything I can replicate at home but everything felt like it was missing flavor. The one saving grace was the bok choy chaat, which was a tasty and creative chaat option. Our server could definitely tell we weren't enjoying our food since we left so much of it untouched, and we offered our honest feedback when we were asked about it. Short review: Get the Murg Tikka. Get the Taar Gosht. I was here with one other a few days ago as she had heard the food here was fantastic and as fans of both Bengali food and Northern Indian food, this sounded right up our alley. The food here exceeded our expectations. As I have had Indian food a ton from cheap to expensive, I'm usually able to find a few criticisms but with the exception of one odd choice with the puri which wasn't bad but just very different (and perhaps expected from the name,) I can really find no faults. In terms of a drink, I had the Aam panna which was $7. This is essentially raw mango juice and it was quite refreshing and a welcome change from the usual mango lassi you find on most menus (though they do have the latter as well.) The bottom of it in particular was really tasty as there was a lot of pulp and it helped with the spices. In terms of food, we went with two appetizers and two main dishes along with dessert. Appetizers: Gazab Murgh Tikka- Charcoal smoked chicken thighs, chili sour cream, pickled shallots, gazab masala, clarified butter ($14) Well this was an absurdly good chicken tikka. My friend called it the best version she has had and I agree. Perfectly moist with a lot of flavor and no dryness at all. The chili sour cream went quite well and the pickled shallots added a nice extra flavor. I had seen the pickled shallots once before in another rather good tikka (albeit an achar/pickled variety) at Rahi and just like there, it added a refreshing sourness. This came with four pieces and if I wanted a lighter meal, I would probably have this and another appetizer and be very happy. 0 complaints. Shrikihand Dahi Puri- Saffron hung yoghurt, cardamom, semolina crisps, potato, pomegranate, chickpeas, edible gold dust ($11) This was a bit different from the usual dahi puri but that is expected with "Shrikihand;" a sweetened yogurt dessert; in the title. As per the name, the filling inside was definitely on the sweeter side. If this was a fancy Indian place like Indian Table or something, I'd almost expect this to be a palate cleanser. Still very tasty but different. I think that the word sweetened should be added to the menu after hung so that more people realize this is going to be sweeter compared to the usual version. Mains: Kampuri Taar Gosht- Bone in baby goat, fried onions, yoghurt, ghee, fox nuts, melon seeds, kewra. ($23) This dish came out in a pot which was opened to reveal a bubbling cauldron of deliciousness. This was the chef special and I can see why as this was maybe the best goat curry I've had. The goat was so tender that I could swear it was a different meat all together and there was a satisfying level of spice. Just spicy enough for the feeling but not too much to overpower any of the other flavors. Absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommended it. 0 complaints again. Parsi Lamb Salli Boti- Boneless lamb, spicy & tangy tomato gravy, potato salli, ginger & garlic ($21) As with the other dish, the lamb was very tender with no extra chew required. The dish was also very tasty though the other person noted that the flavor was a little bit different than other versions she has had but she liked this version. I'm personally not familiar with salli boti (I believe I've only had it once prior) but I found it to be very tasty also. I would recommend this dish heavily if you want a curry that is not particularly spicy but very well flavored. Other things: The main dishes came with rice which was the usual standard and we ordered a garlic naan (5$) which was requested to be a bit crispier. No real complaints about the bread either as it had a great texture and it wasn't overwhelmingly garlicky. They appear to have a za'atar naan also which I would get next time. As this is a Northern Indian place, there wasn't really many deserts on the menu and we went with the Traditional Rasmalai which was $7. As with everything else, it was tasty with a satisfying texture and an additional flavor from the unique pomegranate seeds. While I'm personally a bigger fan of desserts from other parts of India much more, this really isn't the fault of this place and it was a nice satisfying ending to the meal. The meal came out to around $60 per person including tax and tip which was reasonable for how much food we got as we had leftovers especially for this neighborhood. Very nice service also. For mains we got garlic naan, chicken tikka and lemon chicken. Garlic naan was large portions for the price and very soft. Other two chickens were good / standard but nothing blew us away. They don't have their liquor license yet so no alcoholic drinks, but it was cute because they had the "fun" Indian sodas like limca, thums up etc. When we were there it was packed and they really only had 1-2 servers for all the tables so service was a bit slow to start but for better as the meal went on. I would have never come here if it wasn't for an out of towner friend craving Indian food. Yelp search showed us Gazab - five stars and interesting looking food(I'm looking at you red beet dahi puri). I mean, why not? I was going to suggest we go to tried and tested establishments like Indian Accent or Junoon, but in an attempt to check out small budding businesses, we decided to give this a shot. I was the first person here at 12 on a Saturday afternoon. They had just opened up, they allowed me to sit at one of the tables while I waited for my friends to arrive. It was freezing cold, and I asked them for a cup of masala chai to warm me and I was shocked when they said they didn't have it! What Indian restaurant doesn't have masala chai? I picked my jaw back up from the floor and settled for a mango lassi instead. Once my friends arrived, we decided to order a bunch of small plates and share. We got he bok choy chaat, beet dahi puri, patiala chicken tikka, paneer and tandoori pineapple. And every single one of them was a culinary marvel. As an Indian, it's always impressive when someone takes our cuisine that's generously spiced and heavily flavored already and crank it up a notch. The service was great, nothing to complain about there. The table next to us ordered some large plates and the curries came in earthen pots and smelled heavenly so I'll be back for that. I am tempted to knock off one star for not having masala chai on the menu, it was a massive letdown. But they seemed apologetic and said they would have it on their menu soon. Came here on a Sunday night with my family for my brother's birthday. The restaurant itself is small and festive with about 6-7 tables. We ordered the beet Gobi Manchurian, Farali Paneer Tikka, Beet Dahi puri, Tandoori Pineapple, and Artichoke Masala Makana. The Gobi Manchurian, followed by the Paneer Tikka were our favorites. Extremely flavorful, both are a must! The sauce with the Manchurian was perfect to balance the Manchurian's spice. The Tandoori Pineapple tasted like grilled pineapple that one could make at home and the dahi puri was light and airy, but looked more impressive than it tasted. The artichoke masala is good if you like artichoke but the fox seeds on top are bland and extremely tough to chew. We came here for my roommates birthday and had an absolutely 10/10 experience! Gazab is a small hole in the wall type place, but the interior is absolutely stunning and great ambiance for the meal. All of the food was amazing too!! We ordered so so much: garlic naan, mushroom biriyani, samosas, spinach paneer, gobi manchurian, kori sukka, pahadi paneer tikka, and creme brulee. The garlic naan was so so buttery and flavorful, and paired perfectly with everything! I also really liked the kori sukka! The chicken was pretty spicy but had a great crust and was super tender. ** Poor experience due to food poisoning which spoiled our vacation plans. Chicken was undercooked in the center due to the thickness of the cuts, so be sure to double check. My fiance discovered this place off of Tik Tok, so we decided to book a reservation here on our weekend trip to New York. Unfortunately, we experienced really bad food poisoning shortly afterwards which ruined the rest of our trip. We ordered two chicken dishes - the Patiala chicken Tikka and the Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani. We noticed that both of them came with pretty thick cuts of meat, which perhaps caused it to be slightly raw in the center. Not enough for us to notice in the moment, but looking back we were able to connect the dots. Following the meal, my fiance had an upset stomach and vomited throughout the night. The next day, she was restricted to only saltine crackers and apple sauce which robbed us of the other food spots we wanted to explore on our vacation. To add to that, she experienced back aches which made walking around the city extremely uncomfortable, taking away precious time on our vacation in Manhattan (which we all know is very pricey). Came in without a reservation on a Wednesday evening. Easily got a table for 2. Food was good but nothing extraordinary. Definitely don't recommend the pani puri. 2/6 had holes in them which made it impossible for them to hold the pani puri water.
