I just realized I didn't snag a single picture today of my meal and only got pictures of the restaurant. My husband and I shared a full order of cod & chips. The fish was fried nicely, but the batter was a bit too thick resulting in us having to dig the fish out and eating it with a fork. The tartar sauce is underwhelming and the entire basket of fish was served with one tiny piece of lemon. The chips lacked salt but were hot and went well with the cold ketchup. The fountain drinks were all syrup with very little carbonation, so we stuck to water and tossed the soda. The service was good, music was nice and loud and the restaurant had a good vibe. In retrospect, I probably would've liked it a lot better had I ordered coleslaw or something other than a fried side. It was all one note by the end but seemed to be a popular destination. read more

The cod is amazing, especially with the side of curry. I recently tried the prawns. Tasty, but a bit tough. The problem is it's gotten very expensive. The half order of cod alone was $12.95, the side is $2.50. If you get the meal it's nearly $20. And you're only getting a drink and a side with your fish. I got a half order of cod with a side of curry and a half order of prawns. With tip it was almost $32! That's too much for lunch. But did I mention it's really tasty? read more

This is the kind of restaurant where I would not hesitate to try anything on the menu. Though it was my first visit, everything I had was spectacular. It's obvious that this little place takes great pride in all that they do. As I drove by, I noticed the little building sitting off of the street. It's likely this place is a converted house and as such, it feels quite homey, like you just walked into somebody's house for a home cooked meal. After I drove by, I started thinking about fish and chips and quickly noticed that GB Fish & Chips had high ratings. It was a perfect culinary storm, and though the construction in the area made it difficult to get back to, I would later learn that it was 100% worth the inconvenience. The young man that took my order was kind, courteous, and helpful, unlike the garden center employee at Walmart today, who made it seem like I was bothering her by asking a simple question. No, this young man's attitude was perfect. Further, he offered suggestions on what a new customer might wish to try first. So cod, it was. And yet, I am a huge fried oyster fan. I asked if I would be able to order one fried oyster to sample. YES! Great restaurants always accommodate their customers and aim to please. Yes, it was a little pricy for just one, but that is what I wanted and that's what I got. Turns out, the fried oysters were incredible, right up there among the best I have ever had. I did not regret spending the extra $2.50. And the cod. Wow! I am no expert, but I have had my share of tepid fish with breading that did not adhere well, or with a flavor that is out of whack. Not here; each piece of cod was piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The breading had intermittent elevated pockets of crunchy goodness, which only added to the appeal. The fries were also prepared perfectly, golden brown on the outside, hot and wonderful on the inside. The fries are steak fries, an excellent accompaniment to the fish. I was one tarter sauce container short, which I did not mind. First, an employee walks through the dining area to make sure that every customer has enough lemon and tarter sauce, so I could have ask for more. Even so, I decided to enjoy the purity of cod without tarter sauce on my last piece. And so glad I did. If somebody demanded that I find one area that needs improvement, it would be to adjust the pop machine. Upon engaging the ice lever, ice comes pouring out at a rate that is much too fast. I can imagine that employees get tired of wiping the floor clean from ice that has escaped and melted. And it wasn't just me. Every customer I saw use the pop machine lost several cubes on the floor. Small time problem, but I felt like I had to offer some balance with the rest of my flowery compliments. GB Fish and Chips is an example of what can happen when a restaurant cares about the details, hires genuinely nice people, and manages the place like their livelihood depended on it. Because it does. Went here for an early dinner today and it was amazing. We might have to go back for a second time while we are here in denver. The service was great, the gentleman manning the cash register was super friendly. The fish and chips were so good, you could just tell it was fresh fish that had been freshly fried. This is exactly what we are looking for. As someone who's had some quality fish and chips in London, this really took me back. Would definitely go here again. If you aren't a fan of fish (but cmon, try it) they also have bangers, shepard's pie, meat pies. We only tried the fish but I would love to try the shepard's pie! read more

Took my son as he's never been. It has a nice ambience and eclectic decor. There is parking but it's not large. You can park on the street too. I had a half order of cod which is 3 pieces and my son had a full order which is 6 pieces. We ordered fries and curry as sides. My son loved dipping the fries into the curry. Wow...so good! Have seen this place so many times and wanted to go, but never have...finally did...and am I ever glad I stopped in. We got the fried oysters, which were exceptional, the shepherd's pie that was tasty but a little heavy on the mashed potatoes. All in all, I'd say the food was great, and the atmosphere was even better. It's a British-style pub, complete with soccer on the tele's, and uniforms nailed to the ceiling. The crowd was diverse ranging with people in scrubs and men in hard hats to middle aged women chatting it up. Perfect atmosphere for enjoying some beverages of the alcoholic nature, as well as good Brit food. Highly recommend. read more

Shall we go BRITISH today? That was what I ask Hubs when we need a "quick fix"? On the failthful day of Monday August 3rd 2009, Hubs, my little cousin and I head down to GB Fish and Chips for a late lunch after running some errands in the neighborhood. My oh my, I am speechless. I am speechless on what to order coz I want everything on my plate since I was starving... that includes Hubs and little cousin. So here was what we ordered if I could recall correctly: Hubs order was : * Half order of Cod and Chips My little cousin and I order these : * Prawns, Oysters, Squid, Scallops and opt for Chips and Crisps. Hubs like what he ordered. Reminds him on what FISH & CHIPS should taste like since, Hubs is French Irish and like his fish this way all the time. Not forgetting the FRIES... Chunky...he likes fries CHUNKY... So its 2 thumbs up from Hubs and he is willing to return again for more Fish and Chips. As for me, personally, this place is OK for the Prawns / Oysters combo, and the Scallops / Squid combo we request. I like the batter. Had some of the Cod that Hubs ordered. I like the Cod too. But somehow, I feel the Oysters were a little let down. The tartar sauce is too little, I think for my personal consumption... But they DO Charge EXTRA if you need extra sauce... So perhaps next time, I might want to try other combos they let us to have. Hehehehe ;) If they provide skinny fries, that would be good too, I hope in the future. Sloan's Lake location is closer for us, but this spot gets better reviews and I'm glad we came! At the counter I asked the cashier if she preferred the haddock or cod, and she said hands down cod. I'm glad I asked her - it was really good! Half portion + chips was all either of us needed. The food came out freshly cooked and was delicious! The breading on the fish is extremely airy, not at all soggy and has the right amount of crispness. GB Fish & Chips is my kryptonite. I started coming to this location last summer as a treat to myself after enduring a lot of medical procedures at St. Joseph's not too far away. It's still a treat but I have to pace myself now! 1) Do yourself a favor and get a side of curry. This curry is....nectar of the Gods good. Recommendation: get a large order of takeout curry, fancy it up with some home-cooked elements (like pasta, chicken, rice, whatever) and impress the hell out of your BF/GF with it. 2) Best chocolate shakes around. Do it. 3) I always get a half sized mixed basket of fried goodies, which includes scallops, prawns, haddock (I think) and a few other things that are escaping me at the moment. I skip the fries and opt for coleslaw, which is an interesting mix of creamy/vinegary. Parking can be a cluster as it's a tight location and they share a lot with Winchell's. There is a lot that you can't park in, so make sure to park on the street somewhere. The restaurant itself is very London pub like. Nothing flashy or exotic. Fish and chips were solid! You get 3 pretty good sized fishes. They are a little more on the crispy side. The chips are thicker as well. If you're feeling adventurous I would get the curry sauce. Oh my word, we stopped here on a whim, and what a find! The atmosphere was so fun, with football jerseys hanging up all over, as well as some cheeky pics and quotes from Churchill. The menu was limited which is always a good sign that a place knows it's stuff down to a science. We ordered the cod meal, the combo meal, a beef and onion meat pie, and a sausage roll. Not very large, large pieces of fish deep fried and dripping with oil right out of the fryer into the paper covered basket. Good batter, and fish was perfectly done. The BBQ beans were actually very good, and the coleslaw was fresh without too much moisture and being runny although it was a bit on the bland side. If they had haddock fish this place would merit a 5 ..... So I will wait until they get haddock on the menu and then upgrade them to a "5". read more

I'm not sure what else can be said about this place. It's been a staple here in Denver for a number of years. The Broadway location which I typically frequent is in a very unassuming building. Right next to Winchell's Donut House. Parking at times can be a pain. Great atmosphere. Picnic style seating indoors and out. Great classic rock music. Multiple TVs playing sports, futbol, nfl, college football, amongst others. Ceilings decked out in futbol jerseys. Excellent fish & chips. Before the pandemic, I'd eat at GB 1x or 2x a month. Mainly dine-in. It was always great. But during the pandemic... it's like they were planning for it. They immediately modified their set up to efficiently take and process to-go orders. Their cooks nailed it every time. Food quality did not suffer at all - even after the 10 minute car ride home (vs. dine in - and yeah, I'm one of those weirdos that has to eat my food freshly cooked or I have instant regret at the first bite). This location has the smallest pieces of fish for tilapia Tuesday out of all the locations. Still the cod is the way to go and always amazing! Staff is friendly but all other locations are more welcoming. I wouldn't go out of my way for this location unlike the Arvada or Sloans Lake locations. read more

While I haven't had proper English fish and chips, I did live in NZ for several years and like to (believe? hope? imagine?) I've had the good stuff despite not wandering about London yet.
