GCDC the only grilled cheese bar in DC
    Marie S.

If you love grilled cheese, GC DC Grilled Cheese Bar is worth the stop. I ordered the French onion grilled cheese and my husband had the Reuben grilled cheese both were hot, cheesy, and packed with flavor. The French onion version had that rich savory flavor you want in comfort food, and the Reuben had the perfect balance of corned beef, cheese, and tangy sauce. The restaurant itself is a small, dark, narrow bar with a fun layout and different levels of seating. They offer outside seating, bar seating, counter spots, and booths, which gives it a cool casual vibe. The menu has a lot more than just grilled cheese too -- jumbo pickles, mac and cheese, beer, and cider. I also liked that you can customize your sandwich with different breads including sourdough and gluten-free options, plus alternative cheeses and meats. I highly recommend ordering a pickle with any grilled cheese. It helps balance the richness of the cheese. One pickle can be shared between four people. Great comfort food spot in DC when you want something casual, filling, and fun. It's close to the monuments and ceremonies. If you're looking for a place for your young kids and adults in the group, this is a great option near the White House and national mall.

Green goddess and ham and fig grilled cheese

I stopped in with my family after a hard day's work viewing cherry blossoms! Location is super convenient if you're at the mall or white house touring. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a couple tables at the back. There's not a ton of seating but they have additional outdoor tables! Our food came out fairly quick and HOT! No congealed cheese here. I split the green goddess and the ham and fig. The green goddess was solid but the fig really blew me away. Overall solid spot, maybe not the best for a hot day but would def love to come back in the winter for a warm meal!

    Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese on rye

We stumbled upon this restaurant on new year's eve day and decided to try since many restaurants were closed. We ordered via kiosk and got buzzed when our orders were ready. The restaurant was quite busy for lunch but we managed to get a booth. - cheesesteak on rye: the bread was toasted and super crispy. The cheesesteak was too salty for me but the steak itself was tender. - young american on sourdough: the sourdough was perfectly toasted and crunchy. The tomato, bacon & cheese were simple yet delicious combo. The tomato was fresh, the bacons were crispy, and the cheese was delicious.

The food was delicious and fresh! Best grilled cheese I've ever had!! Nicest people! They have free stickers. Sooo clean! After a long walk around dc we went back in for some cold drinks they welcomed us with ice cold water and fresh drinks. They even let us try a new sandwich they've been working on and let us help name it! Best experience!

We were walking around Washington DC and happened across the GCDC Grilled Cheese Bar - and we are glad we stumbled upon it! You can either order with staff or by tablet. There are a lot of options and you can create your own unique grilled cheese (this is what I did). The food came out quick and it was a hit for the whole family!

I can't believe there aren't any of these where I'm from (Minnesota)! Such classic comfort food with so many creatively delicious twists. I was immediately asked if I needed help and I got a good laugh by asking if they could make mine into quarters because I wanted to try multiple but had no one to split with as a solo traveler. I ended up going with the jalapeño popper and threw bacon in it for good measure. It was super good! Also - they have their own lemonade which really hit the spot in a warm DC day spent walking under the National Mall sun!

    Mediterranean and tomato soup

I was so excited to see there was an entire restaurant devoted to different types of grilled cheese in the area. They of course also have tomato soup, because you can't have grilled cheese without tomato soup, that would be a travesty! It's counter service, order at the counter or with some screens at the front of the place and then they text you or call out the number to pick it up. It's a somewhat little space, so caution if you're there at a busy time. The food is amazing though and so worth it. I got the tomato soup (of course) and the Mediterranean grilled cheese substituting in the fake chicken, because well why not? It was amazing. In fact it was so good, that we had some folks in our party that came in a day later than the others and we came back for a second visit (I had the green goddess grilled cheese that time and of course, tomato soup!). Highly recommend checking this place out!

Amazing service. Handstand one of the best places we've eaten in DC. They accommodate allergies like celiac, to the highest degree. Atmosphere vibes temperature of the place music everything was 10/10

My brother and I deliberated over a spot to get a quick lunch at while taking in the sights in DC. Eventually, we landed on GCDC, largely in part due to the clever name. The ordering system is simple and patrons place their own orders with a tablet set up. After landing on our selections, we found a seat in the upper level area. The lighting was kind of dark but it was cozy and we were able to chit chat as we ate. I ordered the pizza melt grilled cheese with a side of mac and cheese. The grilled cheese was delicious. It had a perfect pizza taste without being overwhelmingly saucy. The mac and cheese, however, would have benefited from a bit more cheese sauce.

Chose to try this place out before a comedy show at Dar Hall. Went during dinner hour on a a Saturday. There were a few tables outfront, walking inside there are a couple tablets to place your order or you can place your order with a staff member. The vibe was fun!!! They had a bar area, and some booth seating and some high chair seating at the front that lined with the wall with the countertop seating! They had a selection of music playing that made me feel like I took a Time Machine back to mid 2000s to 2010s and it was loud and fun!!! The staff member who placed my order was very nice and helpful! Ordered a couple of burgers and blueberry mint limeades! The wait for the food wasn't long at all, I mean the place also wasn't super busy which was nice for a Saturday @ 6PM! To start off, the Blueberry Mint Limeade was top tier!!! Just the way the flavors fused together it was a really good beverage to order. Now for the burgers, the gyro burger had a taste of the name in every bite, you had the taste of the feta, the red onion the tomato and burger, it had it all, on a couple slices of super toasty Texas Toast! The Truffle Bacon Burger was definitely the Winner here for me, I tried it, something caramelized onions, aioli and some bacon nonetheless a burger to top all those ingredients... you have yourself a flavor packed burger!!! Definitely liked the twist on the "burger" with that Texas Toast!!! All in all an amazing dine-in experience. Also the bathroom was nice and clean! Will have to come back and try other items on menu! Definitely worth a try! Thanks for you business! P.S. I would go back strictly for that Blueberry Mint Limeade LOL!

We stopped in to this little DC gem for lunch and fell in love with it!! Great take on the lived classic, grilled cheese!! I had the Green Goddess, a wonderful combination with mozzarella, goat cheese, pesto, avocado, and I added chicken. Very good!! My husband has the Fig & Ham, and my son the Cuban with pulled pork. All loved the food!! The employees were friendly and helpful. I recommend you try this one out if you are in the area!

    Southwest Style Truffle Herb Style
    Melody Y.

I ordered ahead of time since their website said there was a 25-30min wait for pick up. The store doesn't have a lot of seating but people were quickly leaving so it wasn't difficult to find a place to sit. Southwest grilled cheese: I don't even like chorizo but this changed my opinion! I would def order again Truffle: soooo buttery, fresh mushrooms, and definitely cheesy. Tomato soup is my comfort food and it lived up to my expectation. It came out hot and paired excellent with the grilled cheese. It was hard to choose what to get since their menu has so many options but we like that! I can't wait to come back to try other menu items.

It's a must visit place when you are in DC if you want quick delicious lunch. So many different versions of a grilled cheese and of course some fantastic tomato soup to go with it. I met with the owner a couple of times when we happen to be in there And just overall a great experience while there. Will definitely hit it again when I'm there next year.

Honestly we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the burgers are! I had the Capital Burger which had such incredible flavor and the burger itself is thick and juicy. Despite having just had a big dinner somewhere else, as I write this, my mouth is watering. My daughter had the wild mushrooms burger and she loved it -- the aioli had the perfect tang to go with the mushroom and Swiss, both burgers were cooked perfectly medium as requested. The old fashioned was just your typical old fashioned with a slice of candied bacon attached to the outside of the glass. We were hoping for something smokier and a little different but it was still a very good Old Fashioned. We shared the chocolate mousse and it was perfection. Yum! If I lived here this would be my new regular spot.

Before getting to the food, I'll first rate the interior excellent. It's big and open, and has a modern yet rustic design, which makes it an excellent atmosphere. They had an impressive list of wines and cocktails, but the draft beer selection was limited. Could use a bit more variety on tap, but I enjoyed the Imperial IPA nonetheless. As for the food; all of it was on the pricey sized given the quality and quantity served, but the salmon collar was by far my favorite -- followed by the chicken, although the chicken was a bit less meaty than I expected. The gem salad, the carrots and the steak fries were all very "meh," and the bisques seemed like small ciabatta buns rather than actual biscuits. All that aside, the biggest disappointment was unfortunately the ax ribeye - it wasn't cooked properly (despite asking for med-rate, depending on the bite, it ranged from medium to very rare), and it was really stringy and fatty - a major disappointment for a steakhouse. Deserts were delicious, I really enjoyed the ice cream cake and thought the peanut butter pie was good. Service was great, prompt and friendly. So I definitely wouldn't recommend this place as a statehouse based on my experience, but would consider coming for the salmon.

I was particularly excited about the bottomless beverage option, but we were surprised to learn that we could only choose one drink for the entire bottomless experience. That restriction wasn't listed on the website or the in-house menu, which felt misleading and was especially disappointing since I came specifically to try the different drink options. Service was also a little slow. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but still waited about 15 minutes to be seated despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. We both ordered steak and eggs medium rare. Mine came out more done than requested, while my companion's steak was fattier and somewhat chewy. The eggs were very standard, and overall, the food was average at best. The ambiance was pleasant but nothing particularly memorable. Honestly, given the restaurant's high reviews, I expected more. It's fine if you're looking for a convenient brunch while you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. P.S. Yelp is currently displaying a notice about suspicious review activity for this business (which I've attached), which I found interesting given how different my experience was from the overall rating.
