This is the place everyone in your family would approve of--literally no joke. Everything from the chilaquiles, the house-made guacamole, salsas, tortillas, burritos, etc.! Speechless. This food literally left me speechless. Ordered: - Jamaica. Freshly made, lightly sweetened - Brussels & Butternut Squash. Semi sweet appetizer. Chorizo helps balance out the natural sweetness of the butternut squash. - Huarache Azul. This was the star! Blue corn tortilla layered with frijoles and a hefty portion of TENDER suadero. Seasoned with salsa macha negra, crema, y repollo. Added the fried egg. Can't even explain how delicious and authentic this food was. Don't want to overhype it but you have to try it, trust. - Flan con pecanas. Sweet and drool worthy. The pecans add a perfect crunch. - Iced Cafe de olla. This is definitely a hole in the wall, family-owned restaurant!!! I was in the area and had to kill time so I decided to pull out my yelp and that's when I found Tenampal AND WOWWWW I am glad that I did!! Service: 5/5 The chef and server were AMAZING. The server gave us a mini description of each item and recommended a few popular items. He always checked in and see if we needed any addition items. Food: 5/5 I got the smash burger and I was shook by the first bite because I've never in my life ever tasted a burger like this. It was sooo unique and tasty (the caramelized onions and ash mayo took me by surprise). My bf got the chicken wet burrito and my sister got the suadero wet burrito (GET THE SPICY SAUCE WITH IT~ unfortunately it's not thaaaat spicy, but still soooooo good)! Typically, I'm not a fan of burritos...but my oh my I kept reaching over and picking at my sister's burrito. I came across this restaurant on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. Once I saw the Bourdain painting on the wall, I had I feeling I was in good hands. Everything was delicious. This family owned restaurant serves Mexican cuisine with love into it! I l enjoyed the chilaquiles, well the red sauce side a lot. The chile verde was a little on the sour side, something im not used to tasting when having verde, if it was less sour I think this place would be five stars forsuree!! We also got enchiladas (red and green) as well and felt the same way about the verde sauce. The huarache was good, I enjoyed the thick tortilla and the toppings but wish it had more salt to taste. This was absolutely the type of place I was expecting; genuine, simple, unpretentious, and with food that was above what I expected- and not in terms of flavor only, but rather how they all came together. We ordered the nopales salad, and it was so great with unexpected components prepped in a way so simple yet so ingenious. I could go on and on, but the one dish that I didn't ordered but only tried was the tinga omelette. I was expecting a semi soggy texture inside the egg, but what I got was just perfect in terms of sauce content. Layered flavors of tinga inside a cloud-fluffy egg, and to wrap it up, a thin layer of requesón that just hit me like a surprise hook to the jaw. I would have never thought those two components would come together so perfectly. It's also great to see how they support the Latin community and don't shy away from their views. Me and my wife are lesbians so I'm not sure if this is a homophobic situation. Every single dish the waiter brought to our table was delicious you could tell with each dish they poured their heart and soul into it! The chicken tacos dorados were easily some of the best I've ever had, they were perfectly crispy, paired with a bright citrus coleslaw and a chili oil that tied it all together beautifully. Their spin on the smallest ingredients is what makes their dishes stand out. For example, the hint of horseradish in their potato fingerlings' dipping sauce made for an addicting experience. The Chile verde was incredibly tender, juicy and just the perfect flavors to dip into handmade tortillas. I did ask for their kickass bottle of habanero (do it!) and slices of lime on the side. Well, this was anything but a regular smash burger. This one came with caramelized onion, a unique cheese sauce and onion ash mayo. It may be hard to get yourself to order this, but you must. The mole was the best I have ever had. The salsas, enchiladas, and everything else we ate were exceptional. You can tell that they love what they are doing and care about what they put out there. Still as good as I remember. All three dishes we ordered were loved by each diner. The chef brings a lot of artistry to each dish, so not only does the food taste amazing, it looks gorgeous. And my enormous burrito de suadero (pictured here) tasted even better as leftovers tonight (half of one of these will fill you up). The wait times for food are a little long, so not a great choice if you're in a rush, but definitely worth the wait if you've got time. My one wish is that they served regular coffee. Cafe de Olla is all they serve, which is just too sweet for me. I know I'm not alone on this. Breakfast without coffee is a bit of a bummer.
