Amazing!!!! This is a family owned business. It felt like I was in my Tia's house, eating the best homemade food. We waited maybe 35minutes for our food, but the longer the wait, the better the food. Absolutely delicious. I got the molé enchilada and my friend got the Verde enchilada. Both were amazing. Street parking. Cozy chill ambience. You have to try the flan, whether you have room for it or not, you have to try it.

Such good food. The Flan always hits so well. Delicious gem of a spot Parking is tough and it's small but the food and service are amazing!

I can't believe I didn't find Tenampal sooner. This hidden little scratch kitchen in Boyle Heights is exactly the kind of place that reminds me why I love trying local restaurants. Parking is street-only, but trust me, it's worth the hunt. From the moment we walked in, it felt like the entire kitchen welcomed us. The energy was warm and inviting, and both servers we interacted with were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to guide us through the menu. To drink, I ordered the limonada and my boyfriend got the jamaica, both refreshing and the perfect start to the meal. We kicked things off with the beans and chorizo topped with salsa macha, and wow. Absolutely incredible. The fresh-made chips sprinkled with cotija cheese were so good that we could barely stop eating them long enough to order the rest of our food. I went with the huevos rancheros in green sauce. The sauce can lean a little sweet, so I asked for it extra spicy and it was exactly what I was hoping for. My boyfriend ordered the green enchiladas with suadero, which our server told us had been made fresh that morning. The quality and care put into every dish really came through. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtful, and made from scratch. Not a single dish disappointed. Between the food, the hospitality, and the attention to detail, Tenampal easily earned a spot on my list of favorite neighborhood finds. I'll definitely be back.

Speechless. This food literally left me speechless. Ordered: - Jamaica. Freshly made, lightly sweetened - Brussels & Butternut Squash. Semi sweet appetizer. Chorizo helps balance out the natural sweetness of the butternut squash. - Huarache Azul. This was the star! Blue corn tortilla layered with frijoles and a hefty portion of TENDER suadero. Seasoned with salsa macha negra, crema, y repollo. Added the fried egg. Can't even explain how delicious and authentic this food was. Don't want to overhype it but you have to try it, trust. - Flan con pecanas. Sweet and drool worthy. The pecans add a perfect crunch. - Iced Cafe de olla. Ordered it without cream, it's slightly sweet but great nonetheless. Aside from the amazing food, the service was top tier. Junior was so sweet and attentive. The whole family was so welcoming. Cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.

The food is pretty decent. I feel like it really didn't hit the spot yet still not bad. The service is good. Mexican music playing from the kitchen, small cozy inside and I think a few seats outside.

Wow!!! Where to start? If you want to feel transported back to the motherland of Mexico, COME HERE! If you feel homesick, come here. If you miss your mom's cooking, come here. I finally had the luck of being able to visit Tenampal after seeing their opening in 2022. And it was the best Sunday brunch ever--the food, the coffee, and the ambiance!! This is the place everyone in your family would approve of--literally no joke. Everything from the chilaquiles, the house-made guacamole, salsas, tortillas, burritos, etc.! Everything was a chef's kiss. The ambiance and the customer service really made the restaurant feel like I was at an older relative's house--no joke at all. The backstory, knowing that all the recipes have been passed down through generations and that everything is house-made, makes it very special. The best hidden gem we're lucky to have!

This is definitely a hole in the wall, family-owned restaurant!!! I was in the area and had to kill time so I decided to pull out my yelp and that's when I found Tenampal AND WOWWWW I am glad that I did!! Service: 5/5 The chef and server were AMAZING. The server gave us a mini description of each item and recommended a few popular items. He always checked in and see if we needed any addition items. Food: 5/5 I got the smash burger and I was shook by the first bite because I've never in my life ever tasted a burger like this. It was sooo unique and tasty (the caramelized onions and ash mayo took me by surprise). My bf got the chicken wet burrito and my sister got the suadero wet burrito (GET THE SPICY SAUCE WITH IT~ unfortunately it's not thaaaat spicy, but still soooooo good)! Typically, I'm not a fan of burritos...but my oh my I kept reaching over and picking at my sister's burrito. FYI the burritos are HUGE LOL, but yay that means I can take it to go and have 2 meals for the day heheh! I love how affordable this place is for the amount of food that you get too. The vibe inside the restaurant is very homey and warm. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!!!

Artisans, but more than that. World class. No other food has made me feel the way that the magic from this kitchen does. Without exaggeration, Bourdain spent his whole career chasing what's here: the kind of food made by a family with genius instincts, who grinds, ferments, smokes, cures, and pickles to mouthwatering effect. It's nirvana. Every single time. I think I've had almost everything on the menu by now. Loved it all, without exception. My repeats have included the huevos rancheros and the huarache azul. Oh, the huarache! Blue corn masa, frijoles, suadero that melts in your mouth because of their patience with it (you can tell), all dressed with salsa macha negra and crema. A fried egg on top. It's fire. The flan con pecanas is Plato's ideal of flan. Silky and sumptuous. The texture from the pecans makes the whole thing feel like a love song. And by now, I've been here enough times to see the true warmth of the family behind the magic. Not only does it radiate outward from the food at each of the (few) tables, but people also reflect it back to them. You can feel it. That is not a small thing. That is actually the whole thing. I drive two hours for this experience, and I'd drive more. Go. Drive however far you need to. Leave speechless.

First time having breakfasts here with my family and Absolutely loved the food and service. Everything tasted amazing and fresh.

    Chilaquiles
    Nancy A.

Their Chilaquiles are amazing! High quality ingredients are tasted through out the dish. Half green and half red is the only way I will have my Chilaquiles here. Nicely garnished and great crunch. Super affordable!!! Great service from this family owned restaurant Humble and friendly people. Super casual ambiance.

"Tenemapal is a little hole-in-the-wall gem that instantly makes you feel at home. All the food was delicious--the chips and guacamole were full of amazing flavor, the chicken tacos dorado were fantastic, and the suadero was phenomenal. The service was incredible--attentive and warm. This cozy spot is a must-visit, and we can't wait to come back!"

    Flan
    Zinnia V.

This family owned restaurant serves Mexican cuisine with love into it! I l enjoyed the chilaquiles, well the red sauce side a lot. The chile verde was a little on the sour side, something im not used to tasting when having verde, if it was less sour I think this place would be five stars forsuree!! We also got enchiladas (red and green) as well and felt the same way about the verde sauce. The huarache was good, I enjoyed the thick tortilla and the toppings but wish it had more salt to taste. The flan was delicious in my opinion, very creamy. What I enjoyed was the service and they kept coming up to make sure everything was okay.

    Raymond B.

I came across this restaurant on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. Once I saw the Bourdain painting on the wall, I had I feeling I was in good hands. Everything was delicious. Ordered the Huaraches, Chilaquiles, and enchiladas. The depth of flavor is like a little journey with each bite. Highly recommend all the dishes I tried. I don't make it to the area much, but I'll make it a point to travel for these eats.

The food was overall tasty, although I felt my steak was tougher than usual for the price point. The shrimp ceviche, although good quality and refreshing, had a slightly bitter taste to it (more so than the usual citrus tang) which I felt detracted from the overall flavor. It kind of felt like there were too many ingredients to it which detracted from the tasty simplicity that the dish is known for, although that is just my opinion and someone else may enjoy it more. The service on the other hand was not particularly good. Our waitress came off as slightly standoffish when asked about gluten free options and failed to refill our water cups multiple times throughout the meal, to the point my partner had to get up and do it herself. The sneaky 4% service charge automatically added to the bill also left a bad taste in my mouth. I have always been of the mind that the responsibility of compensating staff adequately falls on the business, not the public, and any extra tip is for good service and should remain optional by the customer, especially when they charge this much for basic entrees. Our bill came out to over $100 for two people (2 dishes, 1 shared appetizer, no drinks besides water) for breakfast. Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars, worth checking out, but probably not worth frequenting often. Ambiance is an 8.5/10, the food was about a 7/10, the value was a 6/10, and the service was a 5/10. The food was solid, the ambiance was nice, the value is average to below average, and the service could use a little work. That being said, it's a nice place worth checking out, just make sure you ask to have that 4% charge removed from your bill, and tip accordingly.

Server was friendly and even shared which items are full portions for DineLA! ~First Course~ Parker House Rolls Went with this bc they are known for bread. It is similar to Hawaiian rolls and tastes great, but I don't think it was necessary to eat this here. The store bought ones, after some prep, can be comparable. Roasted Meatballs might be more money worth for the 1st course because of portion! Comes with a slice of focaccia bread. But the bread came a little cold so wasn't the best tasting. ~Main Course ~ Crispy Skinned Rainbow Trout Amaze amaze amaze. Would order this again! The trout was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right, flakey and tender. Not dry at all, which is my biggest pet peeve against fish. This is also very money worth because reg price is $31 and they gave the full portion. Mary's Chicken Schnitzel Very tender chicken! I know it's like European but... my taste buds wants to put katsu sauce on it. ~Dessert~ Panna Cotta I was a bit apprehensive going with this order because I'm not big on jello-like pudding, but this version was milky and soft which I much preferred. And I enjoyed scraping everything off the plate. The other dessert option was chocolate cake (not full portion) and it is delicious. Would rec. ps. they also have a seafood selection that was very tempting!

No matter what we will return to LINDEN - this was a wonderful space and kind fun people like…read moreFERNANDO work here - As for our WAIT TIME - I will red flag this until further notice as the food was wonderful - mostly - the drinks were great but feel that for a chef from New York City there should have been a triple speed on the making of the food - we would look into the kitchen to see if someone had quit or there was no one working and it seemed the staff that was on the clock simply had their mouths open and staring back at us. The food was wonderful - we loved the steak the ceaser salad dressing was amazing but the fish item - the Nagril item was too deep fried and instead of sending it back - we were starving after our 1 hour and 45 minutes for it to arrive. in the end we did what FERNANDO asked us to - write a review - but in LA : We leave places like this and while smart dishes like 'The Parkway' or a 'Knuckle Sandwich' are ready to be presented - we would have cashed out asap if we had known that the non-action in the kitchen was a thing. The Chef might have been from New York - but he was no where to be found - much like his kitchen staff staring back into the dining room - with. their. mouths. open. Give this place time. They are creating unnecessary obstacles and dont have enough staff to justify the dead silence for the hours you will wait to receive anything - nothing is bussed - nothing is cleaned and nothing will be addressed during the times you could easily leave without paying for the bill. We will be back but will need to plan for a small meal before as this spot cannot handle the high demands of a very very very small seating footprint.

Unfortunately, we left feeling more disappointed than impressed. To start on a positive note, we were seated on time, and all four of our cocktails were well-made and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly ended. Our overall dining experience lasted over 2.5 hours, which was simply excessive. We were seated outside, and for most of the evening we appeared to be the only table outside being served. Despite that, everything moved at an incredibly slow pace. Several items we ordered were either never entered or never brought out, which only added to the frustration. For appetizers, the Caesar Brûlée was the biggest disappointment. It honestly tasted spoiled and had an unpleasant aftertaste that made it difficult to enjoy. The Curry Corn "Ribs" had a nice flavor, and the Lemon Pepper Brussels Sprouts were easily the favorite dish of the night. The $23 bread basket, consisting of two fish-shaped pieces of cornbread and four small pieces of focaccia, felt very overpriced for what was served. For our entrees, we ordered the For Goodness Steak and the Bama Smoke smoked chicken. The steak itself was cooked to the requested temperature and had good flavor, but it arrived only lukewarm, which took away from the experience. The smoked chicken breast was tender but lacked seasoning, and the Alabama white sauce wasn't what we'd expect from authentic Southern-style Bama sauce. We were also excited to try the restaurant's famous oxtail pot pie, but unfortunately it had already sold out by the time we arrived. What made the evening even more disappointing was the lack of hospitality. When we expressed our frustration about the long waits, we were told they were busy inside--as if sitting outside somehow explained or justified the delays. Had we been informed that outside service would be significantly slower, we could have made an informed decision or at least adjusted our expectations. Even more surprising, during a meal that lasted over two and a half hours, not one manager or member of leadership stopped by to apologize, check on our experience, or acknowledge the obvious service issues. Overall, the food was average at best, with a couple of standout appetizers, but nothing that justified the lengthy wait or made us eager to return. Service and hospitality are just as important as the food, and unfortunately both fell well short of expectations. Based on this experience, it's highly unlikely that we'll be back.
