This shop charged an $80 diagnostic fee but failed to perform even the most basic troubleshooting steps. They misdiagnosed a clear CPU overheating issue as a GPU failure, recommended an unnecessary replacement with an inflated install fee, and ignored the specific problem I explicitly asked them to check. I would not trust them with any PC repair for even the most superficial work. As a quick TLDR, The fact that they failed to identify a CPU overheating issue tells me several things: * They did not run the PC for more than three minutes, which is roughly how long it takes to overheat and shut down. * They did not check the BIOS, which is one of the most basic and essential steps in hardware diagnostics. * They did not test the AIO, despite that being the specific issue I asked them to investigate. * They failed to notice that the radiator fans (simply requires visual inspection) of the AIO were not running at all. These guys appear to prey on customers who may not be technically knowledgeable, while skipping fundamental diagnostic procedures. $80 for a diagnostic fee is roughly in range for a full system to complex comprehensive test. You're supposed to get a full report down to headers. These guys didn't even *visually* look at the components. Much less run any troubleshooting test to any capacity. Here's the more detailed story: I took my PC to their Lorton location to have my AIO cooler checked. Over time, the AIO had developed microbubbles from coolant loss. Which prevented it from properly cooling my CPU. As a result, my CPU was overheating and shutting the system down entirely. You can tell that there's something up with the AIO simply because it sounds like a drowning rat. That and the CPU overheating. I was very clear that the cooling system was the suspected issue. They required an $80 diagnostic fee. While not ideal, that's fairly standard for a custom studio pc. So I paid it and left my PC with them. They later contacted me claiming the GPU was the problem and recommended an unnecessary, over-bloated replacement. Along with an over $100 installation fee to connect two cables. Seriously, the only thing easier to install in a pc is shoving the power cable into it. I declined the repair but gave them the benefit of the doubt and verified their claim myself. I tested my GPU in other systems and tested known-good GPUs in my PC. My GPU worked perfectly, while my system continued to shut down due to CPU overheating. Which is easy enough to monitor by opening up the BIOs. All pcs have them. It's the equivalent to looking at the fuel gauge on your car's dashboard. I then took my PC to a trusted and competent repair shop a state away. They confirmed that the CPU was overheating because the AIO had failed. They also discovered that the fan extension cable used by the AIO was dying. Preventing the radiator fans from receiving a signal to spin. It took awhile to get the parts, but the pc has been running without issue since. This issue was obvious, repeatable, and diagnosable using basic troubleshooting steps. I originally went to the Lorton location to see whether they had replacement parts available (given current shortages for the specific socket I needed in the AIO market) or whether they were capable of repairing the unit itself. Instead, they failed to perform even a simple diagnostic. Ignored the problem I explicitly brought to them and still charged a full detailed diagnostic fee. Recommending an expensive and unnecessary GPU replacement under those circumstances is not just careless. It demonstrates a troubling lack of competence or integrity. Either way, it's not behavior I would expect from a shop charging professional rates. read more

When the replacement motherboard they ordered didn't work with my computer, they went above and beyond: they took a newer model of the same computer from their inventory, swapped in my hard drive, and gave it to me at no extra charge. If you have Apple products, don't take them to the Apple Stores, over price and bad service there. My Apple computer's screen was shatter and I took it to two separate apple locations, one in the Tyson which is always too busy and then they recommended to take it to the Reston store (talk about passing a buck). After 2 days, a Reston Store clerk called and revised the estimated cost that was just to much. They quoted such high price for the repair and estimated time for at least approximately 10 days, I have to pondered to get a new computer which was $2,000.00, equal to my computer. I called Geeks and took it to their shop locate at the Gunston Plaza on US 1, To be completely honest, initially, I was little skeptical. Because, Route 1 is not anywhere associate with anything high tech and the shop itself somewhat squeeze between the VA DMV and US Postal Office, no bigger than my master bedroom closet (sorry guys but it is true). And they charged me $35 for a dynastic test which was free at the Apple Store. Clearly, I did not want to pay the $35, because I knew what was the problem and the Geek guy told me it is non-refundable even he could not fix. I decided to take a chance--life is all about taking chance, otherwise, how would you know anything--and it is so true that no one should judge anything by only book cover. The Geek guy (by the way, very straight foreword without no non-sense demeanor) called me the next day for the estimate cost which was $200 less than what the Apple store quoted !!! and they completed the repair within 3 days. And gave me the student discount on top of that! As I am typing this review the overwhelming joy so over powering because I got my computer back but also find the very reliable computer repair guy in our neighborhood. Great option for laptop repair! They were very willing to work with me and explain every issue my laptop had. Since the entire hard drive had to be replaced, they were also very willing to sell bundle packages which brought the price down. The only issue I had was concerning the music on my old hard drive; they didn't transfer any of it over to my new hard drive even though I asked specifically for the songs to be saved when I dropped my laptop off. But, they did tell me to come back to them with the old hard drive and laptop if I found I had any files missing. Good customer service! Simply put they were awesome! I'm active duty military and the move from overseas to here was awful and they broke my HDTV in the move. I had to have an evaluation done by an electronic repair company and chose Geeks and Wireless due to it being so close to Fort Belvoir. I was not only greeted the second I walked in but they knew the procedure that the moving companies require. And after they did their inspection, they completed all the paperwork properly so that I would be reimbursed by the moving company. I gave them my phone for them to fix as they promised before I left on vacation that Friday and they promised it to be done by Thursday yet I waited till now, four weeks later phone still not fixed but I was fed up with them having the phone for four weeks.
