This fairly new Gelson's has been open for 6 months now. My main visit to this Gelson's was for the Poke Bar and to buy a couple of KIND protein bars. Walked in on July 31st a little after 1:20pm and was greeted by one of their cashiers by the name of Claudia. She was very nice, with a beautiful smile on her face. She wanted to know what was I looking for? I told her nothing in particular, and we had a small talk, wished me happy shopping and a great day. As I was walking towards different aisles, I noticed a few things that we needed from practically every aisle. Aisles are very easy to navigate and there are at least 1-2 employees eager to help you. I wanted to buy those KIND bars, but they didn't have the kind I was looking for. Moving on with other things. I bought a few items from their produce aisle, plenty of food in their hot and cold cases. I am not going to mention everything that I got. Pictures will do it justice. Poke Bar was a little smaller than other Gelson's, but better. Very fresh, delicious and spotless clean around the bar. So I made myself a nice bowl, grabbed my groceries and headed to the register to check out. This store is a little smaller, which I loved. Even the check out only had 3 registers and 2 self check out. The store was fully stocked and everything was in the right places/aisles. Lorena was my cashier and she was also very nice and helpful. She even bagged my groceries for me. Plenty of parking spaces with validation. Store was very clean, had 2 restrooms, but didn't need to use them. I am sure they were clean too. Prices are not that affordable. I just wanted to browse the new store just to see and compare with other Gelson's. Will be back when I am in the area... read more

After passing by this often, finally made it a point to stop by, as with the heat, seemed like the perfect time for some nostalgic ice cream. Alas, my plans were thwarted based on their slightly refined operating hours, which could be understood as this store is a much smaller footprint, meant as a "local" market option for a quick in and out. The store was well stocked and had enough options, though if the one available wasn't the one you're looking for, then you may need to visit a full location. Also noticed a few of the dairy products seemed to have a shorter best use date, so made me wonder how well the turnover of products is, even with limited options. Will update my review after getting to have some ice cream as well as their fresh deli counter as they offer fresh made sandwiches and pizza at reasonable prices. read more

I'm sure having Gelson's on my must-visit list was perplexing to my So Cal family & friends. But just like my Hawaii peeps are excited to visit Trader Joe's when they're in the Bay Area, I, too, was looking forward to strolling through a grocery store I don't have in my city. The Toluca Lake location looks & smells brand new as it is only a few months old. It's a small shop (about the size of an average Trader Joe's) but seems to carry top shelf & specialty items. Prices are high, but on par with markets of its kind. We picked up drinks & a few bags of Kelley's Kookies (love their chocolate-dipped macadamia shortbreads.) I checked out with a cashier instead of at the self check-out kiosk to get my parking validated ($10 minimum store purchase.) I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't as exciting as I'd built it up to be. Crossed off my list & onto the next fixation. read more

Beware of parking machine at Gelsons! Today was an odd day at Gelson's. Yes, it is 95° outside but inside it should be nice enough to warrant not having a bad 95° attitude. The female cashier was not happy to be there. She couldn't be bothered to help with the items or didn't ask to look up my number and forgot to ask if I had parking to be validated. That's OK anyone can have a bad day. I walked out put my groceries in the car had to walk in again to get my parking validated -thankfully I remembered. Cashier ignored me and a young lady came to my rescue. Once I left, and tried to put the parking ticket in the machine it said five dollars. I clearly saw 90 minutes free when I came in so I double checked, cancelled the ticket, tried it again to find that it was, indeed, free parking. Turns out, you need to place the ticket straight up AND top facing in otherwise it will charge you, validation or not. Beware parking machine at Gelson's. Heat or perfect weather, I don't think I will be back. read more

Today's the grand opening for Gelson's in our neighborhood. Excited for the salad bar and the soup station. We always go to the Gelson's in La Canada and Sherman so this is a great addition for the valley! The staff were friendly and passed out samples. This is a smaller Gelson's but carries most pantry essentials, produce, a butcher station, (no bakery at this location). They have Thrifty Ice cream which brings me a lot of nostalgic happiness! I will be grocery shopping more frequently here now that it's local. Parking lot is located at the back! read more

OMG!! This place has Thrifty's ice cream!! It's a cute grocery store, it's not too big, my friend and I were in the Toluca Lake area and was walking around and we never been here. I guess this place is a specialty grocery store... some stuff were $$$$. Service was nice because there was some food items looked yummy and the staff person was kind enough to bring us sample cup. I still give 5 stars because if I was rich with $$$$$, I'd definitely come here to shop. They also have back parking too for Gelson shoppers, because we were walking (we parked elsewhere), so I don't know what the time limit or if it's free parking or not, but did see someone pull a ticket from machine and the little bar thing went up. read more

The smaller markets are where it's at, aren't they? Sometimes I'm in a large Ralphs or Pavillions "super" market, with all those coolers running, and I feel like I'm watching the end of the world. Bring on the smaller Trader-Joes-sized markets! And if high end is your game, the new Toluca Lake Gelson's is just what the doctor ordered. The only thing huge about it is the huge parking lot in the back (free). Inside is pure Gelson's -- perfectly displayed fruits and vegetables and the best floral department of any supermarket. This is the place to get flowers before a big date. Of course the famous Gelson's hot bar is there (and a poke bar, fresh pizza and ice cream stand). No busy person needs to cook when there's a Gelson's nearby. With unlimited funds, all things are possible. Yelp tip: try the fresh-baked chocolate chip cookie. Super yum. read more

For some reason, I love new stores, for their fresh paint, workers still on-site and brand new employees. It's generally a smaller store than other Gelson's I shopped at in recent history. The appliances are sparkling, a special wine and liquor storage pantry is new to Gelson's and really adds the classy appearance of the store. It does not have a certain feel yet, although they've installed electric vehicle charging stations which gives it more street credentials for those of us that appreciate protecting the environment. read more

I love Gelson's however, the new Gelson's in Toluca Lake is a miss. First, the wafting smell of fish as I enter your store is a complete turn off. Second where is the service?! Gelson's is known for great service. There's almost no service in the store. Third, where is the yogurt for crying out loud? I want my Yoplait low-calorie. You guys are always sold out. What's the deal? Deviled eggs sometimes you got them sometimes you don't again what's the deal? Your whole idea was that you're providing ready to eat meals where are your snack boxes? First of all, it's a beautiful store. It's laid out perfectly and reminds me of when Whole Foods first came out. Lots of attention to detail. And a huge parking lot. I personally was annoyed that there was no more Post Office in Toluca Lake when they first started building but I'm over it. Anyway, I went for the ice cream. They have a thrifty ice cream counter and it's still $2.50. Everyone's nice and next time I go I'll go for groceries but this time it was all about the ice cream. read more

Store is compact but brand new and clean. Staff is polished and kind. There is a dedicated parking lot behind the store. It's classic Gelson's in brand new condition. Prices are still the same. This location feels like one that would be in an urban environment like NYC with its square footage constraints. Went there last Saturday night to grab some dinner. It was about 8pm and there was no food in the salad bar, hot bar, nor deli case. Went there tonight because my friend wanted some thrifty ice cream. We stood there waiting for someone to help us for 5 minutes before my friend walked over to the deli case next to it and they told us they close the ice cream at 8pm. It was 735pm. I heard Gelson's opened in Toluca Lake so I had to stop to check it out while in the area. I loved how spacious the parking lot was. Free with validation from store. The market it self is smaller than their usual markets. Narrow isles with limited amount of items. Even the floral department is small. There is no bakery here just a few packed items such as cookies and cakes. The deli also is small and limited but the poke bar was amazing. Looks so fresh and delicious early morning. I'll have to go back to get a bowl. It was too early for poke. Grew selection of wine. There is even a cool wine cellar. Customer service was not friendly at all specially at the hot food/coffee area. I got a few things that were on sale including my favorite sea salt .....Jacobsen Sea Salt. The store is fully stocked and very organized. Fun to shop. Prices are on the higher side for most items specially meats. Overall a great addition to Toluca Lake. read more

Beautiful store! It's brand brand new so everything is so pristine. Shelves are beautifully stocked, lots of great hot bar and cold bar food options as well as liquor! I would definitely come back in the future just to grab lunch. It's on the smaller side, but it's pretty easy to navigate. Checkers were very friendly and there was plenty of staff around to assist shoppers. Other stores I have been to have a little more of an old school vibe, but it's really cool to see this one with a fresh vibe that nods to the Toluca Lake community. I'll be back! read more

Yay! After a very long and much anticipated wait, this market is finally open. And it was worth the wait! Produce, wine, flowers, prepared foods, grocery staples, butcher, coffee & ice cream- they have it all. I love the other local market across the street, but Gelsons offers a different variety of things. I will never have to drive to a store again! There is even a poke bar! So happy that there is a Gelson's in Toluca Lake. No it is not as big as the store on in No Ho but it works! The employees are all so kind and helpful and happy that we are there. There is lots of parking and parking is validated by the store. I hope it is successful and stays there! And a special shout out to the slices of cheesecake that are available for only $5.00 a slice! Small, cramped, expensive. I know going in Gelson's is not cheap, but for the selection this was ridiculous. I could tell why it was largely empty: it made Pavilions look affordable in comparison. $17.99 for a roast chicken. $14.99 for a 1lb vacuum sealed 85/15 organic ground beef. $20/lb for chicken breasts (kosher, I think, but still). $5 baguette, which was heavier and denser than a baguette should be. Didn't bother with the hot counter which wasn't well maintained. Some common products were priced like Pavilions, many others were 25-40% more expensive. Wine as much as 50% more. Aisles are narrow and crammed with stuff hanging over the end caps, plus additional displays near intersections. Grab the smaller cart, as we learned the hard way the larger one is difficult to maneuver. Last time I shopped at a Gelson's was in Studio City and it was much better stocked. Plus, the place was nearly empty. One other family and a solo shopper while we were there. It felt crowded with all three of our groups in the dairy aisle at the same time. Bonus points - in true gelson's fashion, clerks were friendly and helpful. read more

This Gelson's was promised to be mostly take-out food and meals. Yet, those offerings are so limited. The store is full of stuff I don't need now. Hot foods, cold foods, custom foods--about 14% of the store. Let's move that to 85% of the store. read more

This version of Gelson's is terrible. They tried to do too many things and turned out to be the most disappointing store I've ever visited. It is so unwelcoming and of course, extremely extremely extremely expensive. I saw filet mignon for $69 a pound! They should scrap this concept and turn it into a full-blown Gelson's bakery and coffee shop. With a Trader Joe's across the street this place will not survive. Trust me. I was excited on my first visit. BUT I HADN'T NOTICED THERE IS NO BAKERY. it is the ONLY Gelson's with NO BAKERY (which for me re: Gelson's is pretty much the point.) The produce is divine. The produce guy is above and beyond. Mouthwash? They have 2 Crests and 1 Tom's. Paper Towels? No Viva and little of anyone else's. But....NO BAKERY! ??? However, they have a HUGE liquor department so I guess that's what they feel our demographic requires. SO THEY LOST US A POST OFFICE and I don't even get scone?! But I can chose from tremendous selection of alcohol. Well... we all have our own way of measuring pleasure or disappointment. This is mine. read more

I went to the Beautiful New Gelsons in Toluca Lake today.. it is much larger inside than I would have imagined! it seems to have just about everything!
