Stopped here for a quick lunch when I was in the area. Had a hankering for barbecue so I found this place on Yelp. What a great, casual place for good food. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a gentleman behind the counter. He was friendly and very helpful as I was obviously there for the first time. The place has got an Old West theme; probably left over from the 70s or 80s, but that's why I love it more. Plenty of seating inside but I opted to sit outside on the picnic tables out front. I had the brisket sandwich with coleslaw, beans, and a side of fries. There was a fair amount of brisket on the sandwich itself. So much so I was surprised it was very tasty and pretty moist. Could have been a wee bit moister. I wasn't as crazy about the beans but I think that's a matter of taste. Something in the seasoning. That being said, the fries were amazing! I'm not usually really concerned about french fries but every single one of these were crispy and had the perfect amount of salt. I also very much liked the creamy coleslaw. I look forward to coming back and trying the ribs and maybe some Greek specialties. read more

My cousins and I went to Gemato's BBQ on 111th St near Harlem in Worth. We have been there a few times before because the food and service were good. I've had their BBQ ribs and other items in the past, but decided to try their Beef Brisket Sandwich. The sandwich had a fair amount of brisket, and I especially liked how they lightly toasted the roll, similar to an Italian beef roll, nice and chewy. It's counter service, and when your order is ready, they announce your number on your receipt. Gemato's is a good place for families or large parties with plenty of seating. read more

I'll be honest here, I use to get Baby Back ribs at Billy Boys on 95th and Ridgeland Avenue. They were delicious. Unfortunately just recently Billy Boys closed. I decided to try Gemato's. This place was actually recommended to me by someone who said that they had some of the best barbecue beef ribs in Chicago. I was so excited to try it that I did not even get any pictures, but trust me the beef ribs are definitely delicious. I also enjoyed the lemon potatoes. Was wanting to try Gemato's for quite some time and decided to after the gym. I called in an order for a half slab of beef ribs with corn and a baked potato. The lady said 10 minutes and when I arrived the food was ready to go. Very big indoor scene with plenty of seating along with the front counter you cannot miss! When I got home and opened the container I knew it was going to be good. Sweet and tangy sauce with a nice almost flare style bread to absorb the sauce. You can see by the pic that the meat legit came off the bones. Great smoke flavor. Corn was also very good. Sweet. So glad I stopped here and going to try the brisket next! We ordered at the register and when my friend and I went to substitute one of the options we were not informed of an up charge, which made the meal double the price. This is an update to my previous review, I moved out of Worth sometime ago but when I'm back in the area I try and stop for some food. Now I realize that the prices have gone up but that's everywhere; however, Gemato's has kept the quality and proportions the same. This is what I want to find in an eatery. Ordered by phone, was told 30 minutes... showed up at pickup time and waited 50 minutes before I received my food. Got home with food and my steak sandwhich was overcooked and barely warm, fries were reheated also. The same fries I saw sitting up there for 10-15 minutes before my order came up. Mini chicken tacos were a snoozer. My daughter professed her disdain for the grilled cheese saying twas soggy. Adding insult to injury I paid $20 for a grilled cheese sandwich & some fried tortilla chips dressed up to be tacos. I was told they were chicken but I swear twas merely a mole versus chicken inside & they had zero flavor even when adding the salsa. I realize I went to a bbq place & ordered a kids item & tacos but I couldn't care less about bbq & nonetheless no food should be misleading nor tasteless. read more

We've been contemplating eating at Gemato's for the past year. I mean, it's a barbecue joint. Who wouldn't want to eat, ribs, brisket, hot links, and the like? The exterior of the restaurant looks very rustic and inviting, despite being nestled in a community with busy traffic. The indoor ambience is perfect for this type of cuisine. The walls are decorated with an old western motif utilizing real artifacts. It was an early Saturday evening, and there wasn't much business at that time. The restaurant was clean, but there was no music. You can hear adjacent tables talking about their private lives. A tip to the owners: get some music piped into that place. For a barbecue joint, it should probably be country and western music, preferably of the old classic variety. This is one of those restaurants where you approach the counter and place your order. Then, they will call out your number and you pick up the food and bring it back to your booth. Personally, I prefer wait service. But, this is how some restaurants do it. When in Rome... I ordered rib tips, hot links, a baked potato, and a Pepsi. All the food was cold. I don't know about you, but I prefer my food to be piping hot. My big potato was wrapped in aluminum foil, and I had to return to the counter to retrieve butter packets. The gentleman pulled the butter out of a freezing cold refrigerator, so the butter was solid. When you apply rock-hard butter on a cold baked potato, the struggle is real. The food was OK, but bland and cold. I also discovered a long black hair in my rib tips, but I didn't say anything about it. The service was great and the workers there were very pleasant, warm, and friendly. My wife ordered fried fish, but it was clearly overcooked, dry, and hard. My daughter ordered a simple hamburger and that one looked fine. I'm leaning towards not returning to this restaurant. It was overall a boring experience and the food wasn't all that great. There was no flare or spice in the dining experience. It wasn't exciting. It didn't wow me. It was about as average as one can get. Meh. It was also expensive for the product we received. Then again, even McDonald's is expensive today, thanks to a wretched economy. If this establishment were to succeed, it will need to serve the food hot, provide a more comforting and upbeat dining experience with the appropriate music, and ensure the little details (like soft butter pats) are provided with baked potatoes. They should also put the beverage machine in the dining room, so customers can get free refills. I noticed that the restaurant was more concerned about costs, than customer satisfaction. For example, napkins were rationed behind the counter, the butter pats were equally rationed, and I'm not sure if we could get free refills. I didn't ask. Again, the service was very good, but management now needs to put their focus on customer satisfaction at the expense of menial costs. read more

I haven't had food poisoning in my life until I went there, I found hair in my food the cook is some old hairy man kept giving me weird looks they just kept looking at us, I got to the table and there was sauce on the table got it on my shirt. I just had my first Gemato's experience. This place is fantastic. Friendly customer service, clean establishment, and the ribs were mouthwatering and fell right off the bone. I didn't hear my number called - no problem, they brought our food to the table. I forgot my coat and they RAN out to the parking lot. I cant believe this little gem has been around this long and I've never heard of it. There are SO MANY items to choose from. To be honest I came here with low expectations and I was right. Clean. Nice place but not the place where u go and leave saying, I can't wait to come back. Ordered the half slab ribs. And the rib tips with link sausage platter. All mediocre. Obviously cooked a few hrs ago. The mashed potatoes tasty but boxed the ribs ok. My friend did not like the sausages. Hubby and I decided to try Gemato's, so we placed an order online. Hubby got the BBQ rib tips dinner, and I ordered the ribs and chicken combo. Our dinners came with garlic bread. We both chose baked potato and coleslaw. Upon entering, the staff greeted us immediately, and we noticed 2 people sitting in a booth. It was a pleasant surprise to see that the ribs were already cut, as opposed to seeing the slab and pulling the meat apart yourself. The ribs are tender; fall off the bone tender, which is another plus. The barbecue sauce is also delicious. The garlic bread isn't as garlicky, but it was still good, and their coleslaw is good. I didn't eat the chicken yet because I was full, so I will have to update this review once I do. I usually take photos of my food, but because we both were busy today and by the time we placed our order, we were hungry. When we arrived home, we just ate. Update: I am late in posting this but better late than never, right? The chicken is delicious! It was just as tender and flavorful. I think I preferred the chicken over the rib tips. I had a the full slap of beef ribs. So good. Got two meals out of that! Didn't expect there to be so many options of food. They have everything from bbq (yummy) to chicken soup (yummy) to spanakopita (greasy). Their kids menu options is definitely unreasonable. Not sure why they're price gouging on that. $10 for a corn dog and fries. Lol. We paid it. But never again. Thankful their bbq is on point. That's what I would be back for. Fun setting inside. Greatest customer service i've ever had. As soon as i walked in the cashier gave me a fist bump and said happy Friday brother, really nice guy. I ordered the ribs mac and mashed potatoes and it came to my table fairly quick. Regardless of how quick it was done, the sides were great, the bbq was amazing, and the ribs were fall off the bone.
