Haven't been to this location in awhile, but it was a good night. Our runner Elias (sorry if I spelt that wrong) was super friendly and continuous checked in and asked if we needed anything. The meat quality was also better than I remember. The pork cheek and brisket were definitely our highlights but they had a large menu with a variety of options. The only downside is the location is definitely on the older side; the booths were a bit old/dirty and the vents don't work that well. Made a reservation for 4pm this afternoon and it took them 40 minutes to seat us even though we arrived right on time. What's the point of taking reservations if you're not going to be prepared to seat us at the time of the appointment? I'm very confused. They also ran out of a lot of items and overall service was very slow, even though half the restaurant was empty when we were there. The quality of meat was so-so, ban chan was mediocre, rice paper tasted old, radish paper was off-colored... the only thing that stopped me from telling them off right then and there was worrying they'd spit in my food. Why didn't we leave if the wait was so long? Because we were told constantly that "they are backlogged right now and will seat us soon", 15 min later, 25 min later, 30 min later... all lies. Meanwhile only 1/3 of the restaurant was full... what was taking so long? They were washing the dishes, they said. Huh??? Honestly, with all these other ayce kbbq places around these days, I would never come back to dine at this Alhambra location again. I will tell everyone I know to avoid this madness and that they'd be much off at literally any other AYCE kbbq place in the sgv area. Ugh, never again. read more

We were able to be seated immediately, which was nice as I know there is typically a line for Gen. This was the first time I'd been at any Gen location, and I was severely underwhelmed. The floors and tables were slippery/sticky with grease. Our server was changing out our grill too much as the beginning, then not at all at the end. They also turned off the grill each time they changed it and we'd have to flag someone else down to turn it back on. We never received water refills. The meat itself was very poor quality with a lot of tendon. It was so chewy that eating it without choking was almost impossible! I also wish they had at least one paper menu for the tabel, it was a pain to keep opening my phone and zooming in on the teeny tiny menu to pick what to order. read more

There's structure or street parking to get here. It can get packed and you'll might have to wait outside. They have reservation for 10+ memebers. There's plenty of seating inside with two floors available. It's decently clean inside. The staff were nice although today seemed like an off day. We didn't get our grill replaced as often as usual so it got quite smokey. And when we did get the grill replaced the server didn't turn it back on or the flame just completely went out. One of our members didn't get his water refilled even when we left their cup out towards the table end. Towards the end it seems like our table didn't get much attention but we at least got the bill on time. The food was pretty good. The brisket and bulgogi were the highlights. The Hawaiian pork belly was hit or miss. There was one more that I can't remember but it had a nice flavor but was way too chewy. read more

It's been a long time since my family has dined at Gen. Amazingly the prices haven't been increased by a huge amount since I was last here. I joined the waitlist when we were in the parking structure, but when I checked in with the host we were placed in line as though we had shown up, which defeated joining the waitlist. Not sure if this was because it was New Year's Day and busy or an anomaly. It was about a 45 minute wait and extremely busy, but once we were seated the service was overall good. The food we ordered came out relatively timely. They changed our grill. Similar to other reviews, my main complaint is the quality of the meat, specifically the brisket. Not sure what was going on with it but after cooking it just turned into bits on the grill. Seemed like it was a freezer storage issue. The restaurant still has a club like atmosphere, glad the floor wasn't as greasy as other reviews reported. Our overall experience was a 3.5 but I'll round up to 4. I would come back again if I want to satisfy my KBBQ craving for a very affordable price. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. read more

On Memorial Day weekend, reservations through Yelp came in handy. Don't get me wrong, it was a little wonky due to our placements on the wait continuing to move lower on the cue. I brought it up to the host and showed her in real time that my wait time and cue went from 3rd to 9th, referring to the parties ahead of me. She saw that the system kept putting me lower on the cue. Be sure to pay attention and bring it up right away. It might also be better to consider calling to make reservations so that doesn't happen. Either way, the yelp reservations saved us and our part of 4. The wait was limited to 5 minutes if that, and by the time we left you could see the line wait for Gen exceeded out the front door. Service was impeccable. They changed grills immediately and constantly. On a holiday weekend we didn't expect such attention. The food and ambiance was incredible too, and it was the first time I realized there was a second floor available. It's not my first visit but it absolutely won't be my last. We all got the $30 regular AYCE but they didn't offer a premium at $50. Pricing was affordable and reasonable. There are many Korean BBQ spots but this was by far best in price. Also, the Nutella filled mochi pancake topped with powdered sugar for dessert offered by the server was a hit at the end of our meal. Finally came around to have dinner here at the Alhambra location. Staff was great & so friendly! The pancake dessert really hit the spot ! 10/10 We ordered premium beef belly, galbi short ribs, pork & short rib fingers (my fav) flavor so delicious (add the salt) right after coming off the grill, yummm.... My husband and I came here for Saturday dinner. We waited in the virtual line on Yelp and came in when it said our table was ready. It was both of our first times here. The ambiance is very club-like. The lighting is dark and the music is loud. The service was slow and inattentive. When I go to a Korean bbq restaurant, the flow of the food and side dishes need to be 100% in order for me to enjoy and eat a lot. If the flow of food takes too long, it makes me feel full and impatient. That's how it was. We'd order food and it would either not come or we'd have to remind someone passing by to bring it to us. They were out of corn cheese & onions. The side dishes were a huge disappointment for this Korean girl's palette. The kimchi, japchae, soup - they did not taste at all like what they were supposed to. Not authentic at all. The meat quality was decent. Maybe a 3.7/5 stars. The grill needed to be changed way too often. For me, the side dishes are just as important, if not more important than the meat. They have to compliment each other well and elevate each other's flavors but... it was really lacking here. Unfortunately, will not be returning. Suggestions: - A tablet on each table for customers to order their own food would be more efficient than having to wait for a server. This would allow servers to focus on bringing the food. - A call bell on each table. - Both of the above suggestions would not be needed if servers checked on our table more often and if the food didn't take forever to come. read more

COST: AYCE dinner is $30.95 each Bottomless Cokes are $2.98 each And if you want some Premium meats like we did (marinated short rib) then it's another $20 upgrade each person. NOTE: 30-40 minute wait for a table for two, which was a few minutes longer than estimated initially. Then you've got two hours to eat everything you can. Don't skimp on banchan. Get as much kimchi, mandu, jalapeño, rice cake, salad, etc. as you can. For the main course we tackled beef bulgogi, spicy pork bulgogi (it's not that spicy at all!), garlic chicken, ramyun, and bulgogi fries. Prepared items like ramyun and fries were a tad on the cold side. I noticed a lot of reviews mentioning the floors felt greasy/slippery and they are all true. For 21.95 for their lunch special you get a really good value for the price. They have a variety of options to choose from that you wouldn't get anywhere else for the same price. Food is delicious and service is great. They constantly check in on you and are ready to replace the grill once it starts getting dark. Their spicy pork bulgogi is delicious and you really can't go wrong with anything. The only think that I don't like is that if you go to early they don't have any fried options. This is the second time I visited and both time disappointedly I wasn't able to order some of the options I was looking forward to trying out. Was there until 1pm and still wasn't able to try it because their shipment of oil hadn't arrived. 12/28 It's been forever since I've done a review for them. Update time let's go.... Party of 11. We made a reservation . We were greeted immediately and sat at our table. Nice big two tables for our party. Unfortunately, we had a small incident. My mom had fell due to the floors, being fairly slick hurt her shoulder pretty good . Ivan, the manager was amazing. He made sure that my mom was OK and if she needed anything at all, they would take care of it. Thankfully, she was OK and Ivan was amazing and took care of all of our drinks which we had quite a few of them because we ordered 2 pitchers of Beer and 2 Soju and other stuff as well. All was well. We ordered Hawaiian steak , brisket, chicken , spicy pork etc... everything was delicious. Johann G was our server and he was awesome. He made sure that we had plenty of meat and drink and also made sure that my mom was doing OK through out the evening. We all had a good time and good food. Definitely be back again when visiting. Came to this restaurant after a family event. Was my first time to experience a Korean barbecue style restaurant, once arriving to restaurant service was really friendly and welcoming really nice. The wait time here was not that bad was less than 20 minutes at the moment on a Sunday evening.. parking is really hard to find since restaurant is on Main Street. There is a free parking structure about less than two minutes away from restaurant.. The waiters were amazing very helpful and great service. The food was great. This is a 3.5 star review. I arrived with a party of 5, Saturday, 6ish PM. It was busy but not packed, there was another party of 8 ahead of us but they were seated as we got there. We were greeted at the entrance after about a minute and were seated about 5 minutes after that at a table one the 2nd floor. Our server, Anthony, sat us and explained the menu. He was good but I could tell he was busy. He seemed a little um, neutral? Didn't smile or say you're welcome at all but it's not a big deal, he clearly had other tables to serve. No hard feelings from us. Had to remind him a couple of times for extra sides and water refills but we appreciate his service. Also, our table was clean. The meat quality was good! We ordered bulgogi, thin sliced brisket and sirloin steak, garlic chicken, shrimps - both fresh whole and fried, and some pork belly. All the meats were tender and the shrimps were delicious but your mileage may vary depending on how you cook it. We were lucky to have a great cook taking the grill - my wife! My favorite was the sirloin steak, I must have eaten at least 3 myself lol. The fat was rendered perfectly and it melted as I chewed! The salads they served us were also good, though the first one had some browning lettuce which was off-putting. The 2 that followed were fresh. I'm not sure why they serve such small and few banchan (sides) for a party of more than 2. They literally put one spoonful of mash potato, one spoon of pickled cucumbers, same for kimchi and the radishes. We probably went through 8 rounds of banchan between the 5 of us. If it's just one person I'd argue that they would still be too small, but they are bottomless so thats that. Gen needs to hire a few more people at this location to help refill them more often so that people don't have to wait up to 10 minutes for a new round of banchan. The grill was swapped regularly for a clean grill which was awesome that we didn't have to ask, it was just done. I've eaten at other kbbq places where they NEVER change it unless asked to. Floor was greasy and slippery, but it didn't bug me too much. I had to remind my party to be careful while walking. Overall it was a 3.5 star experience. Minus one star for the small sides and greasy floors, and minus half a star for the indifferent service, not that it was bad but they could have come off as a bit friendlier and happier. As expected, we knew Gen usually gets heavy foot traffic so we decided to join the Yelp waitlist before making the drive to the restaurant. Got seated right away but in a way I wished we didn't. Was ready to place in our order, but was told to wait for a server. Sat there for a good 20mins before a server came up to talk to us. I honestly can't blame that server, he did his best but it's seems like there was no communication between the hosts/servers. They kept filling up tables before the servers are ready. Wait a good 30+ mins to actually eat. We were starving so avoid hunger, we kept eating a little rice with sauces provided. For the price they be charging for dinner at Ayce, meats can be way better. What we got was flavorless chopped/minced thingy slice meats. The appetizer was cold. We were placed on the upper level and it was freezing cold. Everything needs improvement! read more

Came here with my brother for lunch, and food was great! There were several items I really enjoyed that I haven't tried since my last visit which were the regular beef belly, honey soy beef belly, and mango tango bites! I highly recommend coming here during lunch since it's such great value for only $20.95 per person (applicable Mon-Thurs, from open-3pm). However, I'm writing this review to give a shoutout to our server, Spencer! He gave exceptional service and was super upbeat and friendly! He was very prompt in taking our orders, constantly changed our grill, and checked on us multiple times which was highly appreciated. He made our experience at Gen so much better! Haven't been here for 3-4 years and refused to come here because of horrendous service in the past. Was forced to come for a graduation party and was pleasantly surprised that there must have been some management change. Because everyone from the front desk lady, handling lots of customers waiting to the servers everyone was great. Went this Sunday 4/26/26 and this time the service from our waiter was not good at all. At first it started off well we received our meat, sides and drinks no problem but then it took 40 mins to get him to come by so we asked a young lady that was there to please help us get his attention. She did when he came by we had asked him to please give us a refill on our drinks ( the refill was requested 30 mins after we were served) he puts his hand up telling me to wait with an attitude. He did the same to other tables not just me and I can confirm no one not even me asked rudely. My receipt says his name is Abel. After the long long wait Kethan (I hope I spelled his name right) he was the BEST!!! Very polite & very professional. He served us until we left. We have never had any issues here every server we have come across have always been excellent. We were disappointed because we went to celebrate my best friend for her bday and we ended up having a not so cool experience but once again thanks to Kethan he made it better for us so thank you very much young man! Literally any Korean BBQ spot OTHER than this would be a better choice. This place is a pitiful Americanized rendition of a Korean classic. The sides absolutely were horrible, didn't even touch them. Server was slow to get us everything we asked for and we cooked on a charred grill most of the night. He didn't know what beer they have. You must scan a QR code to read the menu, which is common these days but annoying. The meat was dry. I can't even express how bad the service and food are here. I asked for hot sauce 3X before getting it, and when I did it tasted like ketchup with a kick, not a Korean sauce AT ALL. Absolutely pitiful experience. Never ever ever again. i find it hard to leave bad reviews but I would do ZERO stars if i could for the wait and service by PHILIP as a server. got seated pretty fast and this was around 5:10. Once we were seated we were deciding what to order and started with some appetizers, went with the bulgogi fries and two waters. We ended up getting the waters fast but the fries took about 10 minutes, reasonable. After we were ready to order once he brought them back to our table on the second floor. We got three choices of raw food to cook including hawaiian steak, honey soy beef belly and premium chadol along with two bowls of rice. We didn't mind the wait at first since we were still half way done with waters and fries and we ended up waiting a total of 1 hour before a single plates came to our table. Then waiting 20 more minutes for the last two!! Which makes you think they would at least apologize for the wait or at least bring the rice for the sides and apologize for the long wait but nope our waiter Philip did not apologize until i asked about the food and if everything was okay, neither did he refill our drinks of water at all , it took a different waiter to ask us for refills. Philip did nothing at all to help us and i really wish i could give him some credit but he really did not do anything useful for us. After I asked he later said the kitchen was busy and when we received our food we had extra servings of food we didn't even order . Making us overthink and think we are getting up charged because there was no mention for extra? tables all around us received food / sides before us. Came on a Monday afternoon for their lunch menu. Lunch was Monday to Thursday until 3pm. Free parking in the parking structures on 1st street. Lunch was $20.95 per person. Dinner was $30.95 per person. The lunch and dinner menu were very similar. The premium menu cost the dinner price plus $20. I personally enjoyed the HANGJUNGSAL or Signature Pork Check. My party enjoyed the RED WINE SAMGYUBSAL or Marinated Pork Belly with Red Wine. Our favorite dish was the Gen Premium Steak or Top Sirloin Coulotte. The PREMIUM CHADOL or Premium Angus Brisket (thinly sliced), was fast to cook, but very fatty. The HAWAIIAN STEAK or Sweet Beef Teriyaki with Pineapple Slice didn't taste fresh. Did not like the NOOK GAN SAL or Marinated Beef Finger Short Rib, took too long to cook. Enjoyed the CALAMARI STEAK or Calamari Steak sprinkled with Green Tea Salt after adding additional green salt. The SOONDOOBOO SOUP or Spicy Soft Tofu Soup with Vegetables & Dried Shrimp was very spicy with very little bits of tofu. The JAP CHAE or Sweet Marinated Glass Noodles with Cooked Vegetables was very bland. Did not like the Kim Chi fried rice at all, but my party thought it was alright. Good place to indulge. I think I'm just not an AYCE KBBQ fan. I really think the meat is significantly inferior to the a la carte places (see my review of Soowon Galbi). Plus, the banchan here is horrible. I know many people go to AYCE places to eat as much of the meat as possible, but I actually enjoy the banchan. This place just did not have any authenticity - the menu options seemed like a mash up of different cuisines - carne asada and al pastor, cajun shrimp, teriyaki porkchop, hawaiian bacon, cheese tonkatsu, and tartar sauce. Anyhow, not someplace I would visit again. No one in our party thought it was a good meal, but at least most left with a full belly. read more

My family and I never go to an All You Can Eat BBQ just because it is so expensive these days. But what I am gonna say is that, after a while of no KBBQ... I kinda missed it actually. So my family and I decided to eat at Gens KBBQ in Alhambra. We went on the weekend (Sunday) so it was all Dinner Pricing. Before we sat down to our table, my family and I were seated by a staff named 'Abel'. And he was so sweet and respectful towards all his customers including us. When we're were seated, we were introduced to our server named 'Miggy,' and he was also an amazing server. He was also very sweet and respectful. The food was delicious and fresh. The ambiance was nice and a little noise because of the music and people talking of course. But that's totally fine. It's great when a restaurant is busy and loud. It means Good Business. This place is beyond sad. Starting with horrible restrooms! Went in a Thursday and service was just unbelievable. Over waiting for water for 10+ minutes and waiting for meats for 25+ min. There was 4 tables in our section and they honestly all looked disappointed. Except one that kept getting bother server and runners attention. It went as far as other tables getting up and grabbing napkins from the servers area. Dirty plates sat on our table through out the whole dinner, which made it hard to eat as other plates took up space. Servers just looked like they didn't want to do their job. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Gen KBBQ has become below quality establishment. If I could give it negative stars I would. read more
