We ordered the cheese cheese cutlet, mazemen, Ganesha gyukatsu, and beef gyukatsu. The restaurant is spacious and closed location in a plaza with fairly easy parking. The food was delicious and the meat tasted fresh and high quality. The service was friendly as well. Overall we had great experience and would recommend this place.

Not quite like the now closed Kobe Kyukatsu in Arcadia but enjoyable! The quality wasn't 100% up to bar. On the pricier side, but still a nice treat. Pork cutlet was tender and flaky. Beef tongue quality wasn't spectacular for the price. A nice spot for hot stone beef tongue since the other spot closed. Not something I'd drive out for.

No wait on a Saturday night, B grade? might be a bad sign. Hot day, no AC on. For the beef gyukatsu, panko did not stick very well, kinda just fell off when u grill it which just ended up feeling like KBBQ, which kinda goes with their new Korean section of the menu now?...Surprisingly the best katsu dish there I think was the fish.

I was so excited to try this spot since my trip to Japan. I loved the gyukatsu there and couldn't believe we had one in the area. I got the beef gyukatsu and thought it tasted good overall but was slightly chewy. The breading was also a little crumbly and not crispy, but it still tasted okay. I liked that there were still a decent amount of small side dishes (including miso soup which isn't pictured) which all tasted good! The server was also extremely nice and checked up on us to make sure everything was good. Not sure I'd come back here since I have other favorite katsu spots, but it's nice to see that we have gyukatsu in the 626 area!

Loved Kyoto Gyukatsu! Luckily we were there at a great time on a Sunday afternoon, as we and another party were the only ones there. Our server was quick to take our order and our food shortly came out afterwards. The quality of the meat and noodles was great. I especially loved cooking the meat in the butter, it was a pleasant touch and I don't think I'll go back from it. The place was very clean and it was soothing how quiet it was that day. I'm sure with how good the food was, we got lucky that it wasn't super busy! The cream curry noodles were delicious and just a right amount of the cream on top that it was not overpowering. We'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

Being part Japanese, any Katsu or Gyu Katsu is almost like a comfort food where you would have that cooked for you as a child once, sometimes twice a week. Therefore, I do get that craving to try some of the places out. Here they have Gyu Katsu which is beef katsu that you can cook on a hot stone to your liking. The place is pretty large, but shockingly not very filled on a Sunday. To start off I got their mixed tempura, which comes with some shrimp, eggplant, pumpkin, zucchini, and onions. They gave such little sauce, maybe just about an ounce of it, which was surprising. Usually Tempura comes with the big bowl or tempura dip or sauce. For the entrées, I had their Pork Katsu with the curry add on, and their premium Wagyu Gyu Katsu. The pork was decent and again they gave such little curry for the add that it didn't really cover up the katsu and the rice together. As for the Wagyu katsu, it was nice and tender. Good thing is that you get to try and cook it to your liking over their hot stone. My opinion of this place is that it is good, not great. Flavor of some sauces and the rice being slightly cold and dry didn't give me the most authentic experience.

Not quite like Japan but not bad for being local in SGV. Must order: beef tongue - this was the best item on the whole menu IMO. The fish fillet is solid - has a nice breading to it. You also can't go wrong with the beef gyukatsu - we opt out from getting the most expensive one and it was still hit the spot. I can't wait to come back and eat the beef tongue again.

Good food, but pretty average. Decided to try this place mainly due to the unique gyukatsu cooked on a hot stone. It was a fun experience, but the food was average. The beef wasn't super flavorful, came with a tasty cabbage salad and rice. The chicken katsu was good, but average flavor. The panko was the supermarket type, but the big size panko at true katsu restaurants. The decor and ambiance was beautiful and classy.

My bestie was a regular here for quite some time, and she took me here along with some of her family members. Nice location, surrounded by a lot of stuff, and it seems pretty popular later in the evening. There were around 13 of us that evening, and they pushed a few tables together so that we all sat together. Everyone got free miso soup, which was amazing as I love miso soup! We ordered various things, but they were out of some items on the menu so we pivoted when it came to the appetizers. We ended up trying gyoza, chicken karaage, and some other things. The gyoza was just alright... not my fave, but not terrible. The karaage was pretty good! Some ordered their udon and other noodle dishes and enjoyed them. Others ordered some Katsu, or Katsu with extra curry sauce, Portions to those were great! I tried their Gyukatsu, where it is served breaded and you heat it yourself on the hot stone that they provide. It also includes sides, such as shredded cabbage, rice, and corn. It's a pretty fun concept if most people at the table order a variation of that and we all cook the meat and whatnot, but for what it is and the price, I dunno... I suppose filling for most so that's fine. I also tried the spicy chicken cream noodle. The dish came out looking like a bowl of textured/creamed potatoes, and the spicy noodles were underneath. Pretty good flavor, but I didn't really appreciate the smell. Service was met and we got what we asked for. It was interesting how plates weren't provided, and we ended up using the bowls of the miso soups as needed. I understand with main dishes, but it gets a bit odd when it comes to sharing stuff, such as if we wanted to split/try different things as well as the appetizers. Some instaworthy areas at this restaurant too, if you're into that as well!

Kyoto Gyukatsu is a Japanese eatery specializing in some delicious gyukatsu. This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. They are located right next to The Habit and Wushiland. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a good amount of seating. I came with a group of homies for lunch around 1pm and there was about a 15 minute wait. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different gyukatsu and other katsu dishes to choose from. I got the Haneshita Gyukatsu with the Kelp Egg and every bite was delicious! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. As a pro tip, I would highly recommend getting the Kelp Egg on the side if you get a beef dish as the egg sauce really accentuates the quality of the meat!

Say what?? I've had this on my "to try" list for a while now. How did I just decide to come to this spot?!! Ambiance is pretty cute. I love the cooking the meat until the way I like it concept of this. It comes w sauces and a side of cabbage slaw. My fire went out before I finished my meal but she came and lit it back up. She was literally the only person working the front and there were like 6-7 other tables eating. We got a premium set and a kalbi set w kelp egg and the unagi bowl. I was way too full after the set but the unagi was good and flavorful. Parking is available in the shared plaza. Plenty of spots but can get pretty busy during weekends. They close at 2:30pm and reopen at 5pm. Can't wait to come back, been thinking abt it already! Haha

I came here on a Sunday night for dinner. It was fairly busy, but thankfully, there were plenty of parking spaces available in the lot. The restaurant is clean and has a nice Japanese vibe that feels welcoming. We ordered our food, and it came out impressively fast, within about 10 minutes. I went with the premium gyukatsu. The beef itself was good, tender and flavorful on its own, but it didn't wow me. Compared to other gyukatsu spots I've tried, Kyoto Gyukatsu is missing a few touches that elevate the experience. For example, there was no butter or rosemary for the beef, and no salt provided for seasoning. I found myself wishing I could add a little more flavor to make it shine. I do love the concept and think that the little grills they provide are awesome! Service was great, though. Our server was friendly, attentive, and checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, Kyoto Gyukatsu is a decent spot with quick service and a pleasant atmosphere, but the food quality and lack of some key seasoning items, combined with the relatively high price, make it less likely for me to visit often.

There many variations of Gyukatsu around the SGV but this one is located in downtown Alhambra. This spot used to be busy but seems like it's calmed down. Was no wait and were only a few tables seated on Friday 6pm. We were served miso and water before we ordered which was very tasty. This is what I got. Beef Gyukatsu - A must, I got it with top blade cut and it was delicious. Make sure not to take too long to eat all the meat because the fire does run out after some time. Flavors on point and everything is so good. For $26, I feel its reasonable. (5/5) Mazemen - This almost was like udon in spaghetti meat sauce with an raw egg on top. It's good but also nothing like super special. You may get tired of eating it after some time. Good price though. (3.5/5) Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream - The batter was interesting, it was almost like a doughnut rather then tempura. Eat this fast because that ice cream was melting. It's okay, pretty good, but not the best thing in the world. Not sure why they needed the green leafy garnish because it made no sense with the ice cream. (3.5/5) Overall I occasionally crave Gyukatsu and this place does it right for that dish. Can't go wrong and the service was pretty solid. I would be back here if there is no wait. Parking - Super easy, they have a huge lot shared with a bunch of other stores.

Yes they have outdoor seating in the front patio. No heating, just umbrella covering. There are several tables and chairs of 2 and 4 seaters per table. I think you can look at most recent outside photos to get an idea. I think there may be 4 tables…

Does anyone know if they take Apple pay? They NEVER answer their phone?

Can we make reservations for early dinner for a large party? Like 11 or 12.

Do you take reservations? Your phone seems to be disconnected. I've tried calling a few times yesterday.

No reservations needed. If you get get there before 7pm for dinner, it's usually not busy yet

Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

Siu mai were especially juicy and meaty; they definitely satisfied our dim sum cravings. Soup dumplings were ok - I found the wrapper to be doughy and the filling kinda plain. But again because I had not eaten much for the last few days, I ended up eating most of it (lol, had not realized how hungry I was until I was eating this). My husband did enjoy this congee too. Beef Stew Noodle Soup, $14.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish and thought the soup was flavorful and the noodles had a nice chew. I also liked this dish and thought it was delicious. My husband finished most of this dish. ------------------------------ (Total= $28.10 after tax, prior to tip) Service was friendly. And because the restaurant is on the small side, it was very easy to get a server's attention if you needed something. Although I did speak mostly Cantonese when I was here (I am actually trying to make myself speak Cantonese more), you can order in English. So you shouldn't have any trouble when you dine here. Overall, coming to The Congee was the right choice for dinner and so glad we did. I do see myself coming back here for another meal in the near future. Please note that there is a unisex restaurant towards the back of the restaurant, right next to the back entrance/ exit. The restroom itself had all the basic essentials (running water, toilet paper, paper towels and soap) but wasn't the cleanest. It was decent at best.

I chose to order the Spicy Salt Wings appetizer based on the positive reviews I had seen on Yelp…read more However, I must admit that I did not find the wings to my liking. They lacked both the expected spiciness and the salty flavor. I believe I had anticipated a taste similar to crispy spicy salted pork chops. After just one bite, I decided to take the remainder home with the intention of making them crispier myself. The Shrimp Wonton Noodles in Soup certainly deserve a five-star rating. The dish featured four generously sized shrimp wontons, all amply filled with shrimp. I did sample the noodles, but unfortunately, I was too satiated to fully appreciate them. I am looking forward to returning for the Shrimp Wonton Noodles in Soup.

I came to 101 Noodle Express in Alhambra for a late dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in the…read moresame building as Alhambra Valley Bowl. From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. Btw, cash, Zelle, or Venmo payment ONLY for bill total under $50. Bring cash if you don't plan to eat lots.

I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
