I've been to Young Dong Tofu House quite a few times, but honestly, I'm starting to feel like it's not as good of a value as it used to be. I ordered the beef short ribs with tofu soup combo. The food was okay, but nothing special. The tofu soup was decent and the short ribs were fine, but for what they're charging now, I expected better. The biggest issue for me is the price. It seems like every time I come back, it gets more expensive, but I really don't see any improvement in the food quality. I understand everything costs more these days, but when the price goes up this much, I expect the food to get better too. I'm not sure what happened. I remember really enjoying this place before and feeling like the combo was worth the money. This time, I finished my meal thinking, "That was it?" Not terrible by any means, just not as good as I remember and definitely not the same value anymore. Hopefully they step it up because I actually used to really like coming here. 3 stars for now. read more

We arrived around 11:30, and with a party of three, we had placed our order by around 11:40 and had our food around 11:55 , we had barely finished eating and had not even had a moment to sit back, relax, or catch our breath when the staff started coming over to clear our table. Then, around 12: 30, a waitress came over with a cart and repeatedly said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I have to clear this table because there are a lot of people waiting." Although she kept saying "sorry" and "thank you," it made us feel very uncomfortable and rushed. We completely understand that the restaurant was busy and that tables need to be turned over, but we had literally just finished our meal and hadn't even had a chance to catch our breath before feeling like we were being asked to leave. The way it was handled made us feel more like we were being pushed out than treated as guests. Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant dining experience even though the food was nice. read more

Delicious! We got the beef tofu soup (plain spicy) and the seafood tofu soup (mild spicy), both with purple rice. The soup comes out fresh and piping hot, so make sure to crack the egg in right away! The broth was so flavorful without being overly salty, and the purple rice was cooked perfectly--not mushy at all. The banchan was also delicious, especially the cool and refreshing kimchis on a hot summer day! The menu is pretty big with lots of different options and combos, so it takes a little time to look through everything, but I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose. Its located off Las Tunas in the 168 Market shopping center- where Tokyo Lobby also was. We've never been there and thought we'd try, when we say the line we knew we'd be in for a treat!!! We waited outside for about 15 mins- luckily it was a quick turn around. once inside we were seated and given time to glance at the menu. It gives off a homey welcoming feeling and the AC felt so good after being in the heat for the ladt 15 minutes. Being it was Sunday, we knew we couldn't order the combo's, however the waitress said it was ok to order the combos. The menu looks small but with a choice of any soup.... it took me a while to decide. I decided on the BBQ Ribs, white rice and the Kimchi Beef Soup. Before it came, 7 bowls were placed in front of us and one bowl had 2 raw eggs. My husband looked at me and said aren't they gonna cook these???? I laughed at him ok it may be mean but it was funny! I told him the soup will be hot enough to cook the egg and he could mix it in or leave it on top. So, the soup came and he did just that- he mixed in the egg and Man it added a boost to the soup- Soooo Good! The egg thickened the already yummy broth into a creamy texture, my kimchi beef soup with the creamy texture took it to a different level! That "small" soup was so filling and on of the Best I've ever had!!! I can't imagine eating a large bowl of this unless I was really hungry but I might try it . The soup was so filling that I was only able to eat 2 ribs and a tjird of the bowl of rice. The ribs are so worth the cost - marinated in a semi sweet sauce and bbq'd to a slightly crispy tenderness that at first bite I was overehelmed with the yumminess and putting kimchi on it took it to another level! Here's the updated review with the remodel mentioned naturally near the beginning. Stopped by Young Dong Tofu House in San Gabriel to give this newer Korean spot a try, and I left with mixed feelings. It's been a few years since my last visit, and they did a complete remodel. The restaurant looks completely different now with a clean, modern look that feels much more updated than before. While the service could use some improvement, the food was definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered the galbi and seafood tofu soup combo, the bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo, and the new cold noodle. The galbi came with six pieces and was cooked perfectly. It was tender, flavorful, and paired well with the seafood tofu soup. The combo also came with four banchan: bean sprouts with sesame oil, kimchi cucumber, kimchi, and seaweed. Everything was fresh and complemented the meal nicely. The bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo was just as satisfying. The bulgogi was well seasoned, and the tofu soup had plenty of seafood with a rich, comforting broth. We also tried the new cold noodle, which came in an icy chicken broth with shredded chicken and buckwheat noodles. The owner recommended adding a little vinegar, and it completely brought the dish together. It added just the right amount of brightness, and the broth became incredibly refreshing. It ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal. The food here is honestly the reason to visit. It's very close to the quality you would find in Koreatown, but without having to deal with the headache of Koreatown parking. That's a huge plus if you're in the SGV. The ambiance is modern, clean, and comfortable. Even during our visit, it wasn't overly loud, and we were able to have a normal conversation throughout the meal. Service was just okay. The staff seemed overworked, and it looked like they could have used more help. The one server who came around to refill our banchan was incredibly sweet and friendly, and we really appreciated her attentiveness. Unfortunately, everyone else, including the owners, came across as a bit short with customers and not particularly welcoming. It didn't ruin the meal, but it was noticeable. Parking was easy thanks to the large free parking lot shared with the other restaurants and 168 Market, making it much more convenient than trying to find parking in Koreatown. Overall, I'd come back for the food. If you're looking for solid Korean comfort food in the SGV without making the drive to K-town, Young Dong Tofu House is definitely worth checking out. The remodel gave the restaurant a fresh new look, and hopefully as they settle in and add more staff, the service experience will improve because the kitchen is already doing a great job. read more

When yoy vet the combo, the tofu soup is smaller which is good cause i cant finish a large one. I really liked their soy garlic chicken but wished it had large pieces of garlic in it. My favorite banchan would be the seaweed and cucumbers. Im glad they refill it for you. But fir some reason they would go around with the banchan cart and fill everyone else but ours. We always had to ask for it to be refilled. But we mightve been in a bad spot since it was the corner. I noticed they sell galbi tang now. Short rib soup. I question if this location is under new ownership because the food is significantly better than I remembered, honestly on par with the Young Dong location in Chino Hills. It made me do a double take after not visiting for a while! A few things worth noting: - The entire staff is incredibly friendly and efficient, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. - Thoroughly enjoyed all the banchan. Take advantage of the complimentary refills! I liked the kimchi so much that I bought a large container to-go. I've been eating it daily ever since. It's on the sweeter side, not totally tart. Don't sleep on the raw squid either! - They've introduced two naengmyun options, one spicy and one non-spicy, just in time for summer. We tried the non-spicy version and my family enjoyed it. They use a chicken broth base and it was light, refreshing, and surprisingly addictive. - I love that they offer a beef and octopus soondubu (generous portion of octopus!). Most places only have a beef and seafood combination. This place always have a long waiting line. This place is my mom's favorite Korean place to eat in this area. We waited for an hour before getting a seat. After eating here, I agree the food is pretty delicious. No wonder why it's so packed and busy all the time. It's a bit pricey, but all Korean restaurant these days are all pricey. We got the seafood tofu soup, kalbi, and katsu. All was very flavorful and made well. My picky kid ate a lot of the kalbi and he barely eats meat. Probably because it's on the sweeter side, but nonetheless, the meat was good. Service was fine considering how busy they are. We will be back again. read more

This is one of my go to spots for tofu soup in 626! I came on a weeknight today and didn't have to wait, but there can sometimes be a bit of a wait on busier days. There is a decent selection of banchan and all of them taste really good. We got the beef tofu soup and beef bibimbap, which were both delicious and very flavorful. There's always a wait here for dinner, so I recommend coming early. Hubs & I have become really big fans of their Curry Chicken / Pork Katsu. We didn't realize what a big portion this would be the first time we ordered it, but it's definitely shareable or you can do what we do: add a combo for extra food to take home for leftovers =P I do also wish they added more broth/water to their tofu soup because it always seems so dry after they bring it out. I'm not sure why I have not done a review for this restaurant because it's literally my FAVORITE go-to restaurant! My family has been coming here since the pandemic days when they had the tables outside and met a server named Valente. He's always been so amazing with us and his service as well as other staff here has been phenomenal. It's always nice coming over here for more than 5 years and seen this place get renovated and upgraded and we've loved it even more now! Happily Valente is still here to greet us with a smile and give us an amazing service like today when my sister and I came for lunch. The food is ALWAYS amazing! I love getting the hot stone bibimbap and their spicy tofu soup! The banchan is also so good that I literally ask for more all the time and they always come by and giving us more I've never had a bad experience here in the 5 plus years that I've been coming here. I haven't been to Young Dong Tofu House in a very long time. Back then I felt that the restaurant is dirty and the quality wasn't good. Ever since they did the renovation, I feel that the place is lively. I normally visit another tofu house but the other place's quality went down so I decided to try YDTH again. I order tofu soup with clams medium spicy. I liked how flavorful the soup was. I also added egg in the beginning. Side dishes are good but sadly no mashed potato. I liked that the staff came around with a cart to do refill on side dishes. Overall I think I'll stop by here again. Parking can be hard to find in this plaza. read more

I so wanted to like this place because soondubu is one of my faves. Last time I got galbi and tofu. Half the galbi was inedible because of too much gristle, fat and gross hard pieces. The soup is great and three different kinds of rice to choose from. Purple, white and brown. It does have a bit of wait especially towards the nightime and towards closing so be weary if you plan on going an hour or half an hour before. This is such a cool spot to grab dinner. It was 4 of us and we got sat relatively quickly. The only thing was we had to wave down the staff to pay our bill and it took a bit of time. The parking here sucks! The people here have poor driving and parking skills! It took about 15-20 minutes to park. It also took a while to leave as cars were blocking me from leaving... I came here for an early dinner around 3pm during a weekend. Surprisingly, there was no wait and we were seated immediately. As I walked in, I saw the authentic decorations and loved the vibe of the restaurant. They had both booths and tables. We were seated against the wall in a table. I've had my share of Korean food both here in the States and in S. Korea. However, the tofu soup was bland, bulgogi was too sweet, and the banchans (side dishes) were also too sweet for my liking. On this particular day, I was craving it immensely and decided to treat myself to a solo lunch. I came in around 2 p.m. just in time for the lunch special, and there were plenty of tables available, which made for a nice relaxed atmosphere. I went with my usual mix: the classic beef tofu soup and bulgogi lunch combo. I also love mixing the banchan into the white rice while alternating bites with the soup. They gave a nice variety of side dishes: kimchi, seaweed, bean sprouts, squid, and cucumber. The food was immaculate and exactly what I was craving. The soup came out piping hot and was super flavorful and hearty with a good amount of tofu and beef. The bulgogi paired perfectly with it and made the meal feel extra comforting and filling. Food coma hit hard. Service was quick, and the food came out in a timely manner. Came here at 10PM on a Friday night with friends. Food was decent, but there are better Korean restaurant across the SGV and LA. The service was ok, but one server named Kayla was really rushy even though we were clearly still eating and having conversation. Mind you, it was 30 minutes before closing, and we were almost done. To elaborate, we were eating and she took away our check and added an 18% service charge onto our bill, which is typically only added for big parties. Our party only had 5 people. Each meal was supposed to be $17, but $6 was added given the "service charge" and tax. THEN Kayla went up to our table and interrupted our meal saying "can I get paid first?". Absolutely no regard for our dining experience. So unprofessional and rude. Also this place got shut down for health hazards. Absolutely will never come back to this place. Only come if you love bad service and unnecessary, unavoidable tip. I recommend you guys go to Sun Nong Dan next door or Moobongri Soondae instead. read more

This was my first time at young dong at the SGV location. The place is clean and workers are well organized. I went on a Saturday at 6pm and there was already a huge line where you write your name down on a piece of a paper. I think it took around 45 minutes to get seated. The menu is just like most tofu soup places: tofu soups, combinations and a few non tofu soup dishes. I got their combination seafood beef soup spicy and my husband got the katsu dinner combo with mild dumpling tofu soup. The spicy soondooboo was medium spice to me, it looks really red but not really that spicy. It was the perfect amount of heat for me. My husband got the mild version and he even said he could handle some of my spicy soup. He also enjoyed the pork katsu and it was surprisingly really crispy. The portion size was perfect for him with katsu and a side of a smaller tofu soup. The tofu soups were sooo delicious. Meat was really tender and everything was so fresh. My combination had 3 shrimps and lots of clams inside. My husbands smaller dumpling tofu soups even had a lot of dumplings in it. And for their side dishes: kimchi!! So fresh and good! They told me they make their kimchi fresh in the mornings daily and I literally ate two bowls myself. Definitely recommend coming here but expect a wait if you go during peak hours read more

An order of BBQ beef rib and tofu combo, a seafood soup and bulgogi combo, pork dumpling combo with bulgogi and Stone pot, an oyster soup and brown rice combo with beef, tofu soup with katsu fried pork chop. First came several small shareable vegetable items. Each one was delicious. Then came in the feast. I think I had ordered the only disappointing tofu soup, which was with seafood.
