Be "Very Cautious" about what you order here. I had a very concerning experience with one of their dishes. The in-house sauces they use, seem to contain small plastic-like bits. These bits ended up staining the tofu with a strange blue tint and even made their way into the rice. I ordered the Thai Pepper Fried Rice, but it appears that this issue could affect any dish prepared with their in-house sauces, not just tofu-based ones. After my experience, I looked through the google reviews and found another lowest-rated review by someone named "Espee" posted around a Year ago with similar photos of Blue-Stained Tofu, which confirms this is *not* an isolated incident. I raised my issue with the ownership sent them the photos also, but they were Unwilling to take any action or even investigate further to review their sauce production, which is unacceptable. This is a clear Food Safety Concern. I strongly urge others to be cautious, and I hope the Health Department steps in to look into this and get this corrected. read more

I discovered Masala Wok thru the original location years ago. It was excellent and I Ate there for years until they declined. I found this location a few years ago but had a couple of just ok experiences. Passing by today I thought I'd give them another try. It was early but I didn't want to cook or drive thru junk so... They have a kiosk you can order at or wait for someone to take your order. I don't do kiosks and was helped quickly. Early afternoon the place was not busy. It seemed to take a while for my order to be prepared but I hoped it was because it was being done right. After about a 20 minute wait I took my order and headed home. A trick I learned from my mother is,stick your food in the microwave and it stays warm. Seriously,it works and in this case my food was still very warm two hours later. This isn't the first time the food quality has been bad. I ordered pickup today of paneer spinach masala and the sauce was very tangy and soupy. Couldn't even finish it. Whenever I am nearby, I always stop in for wings and an entree for later. I have to admit that it's not as good as what I'm used to. A few visits ago, the lamb was not tender at all. But no one makes a perfect meal all the time, right? This time I got the Thai Dynamite chicken and it was good. I also got the honey habanero wings. I went to Masala Wok and got the thai basil fried rice. Overall it was alright. Nothing exceptional of bad. I enjoyed the tofu due to its softness and the flavor profile of the dish, but really wish it was far spicier and less oily. The oiliness of the dish severely hampered the rice as i felt my heart begging me to stop and retracted away from the solid flavor provided elsewhere throughout the dish. read more

I grabbed food to go so I can't quite attest to the quality of the dine in experience, but from the very small glimpse, the restaurant seemed to be sparsely populated during lunch hours. It's definitely on the pricier end especially compared to many of the restaurants in the area, but when there are deals, it's a pretty good bang for the buck! I ordered the southern curry and mango lassi. The southern curry was incredibly flavorful and I would definitely try it again, but next time I might explore flavors with more of a kick to it. The mango lassi was not bad, but at its regular price, I'm not sure I would purchase it again. Overall, it's a pretty decent restaurant to stop by for a quick bite. No thank you whatsoever and practically tossed my order to me saying "here's your order"- RUDE. The spinach Masala was very thin, much thinner than I've ever had it before. Ordered take out last week and again this past weekend. I don't know why people are giving this place a bad review. Well, haven't been done-in so maybe that's why? But, take-out has been a plus for us! We love the tikka masala and butter chicken masala dishes, the masala fries, chicken lollipops, samosas, wok vegetables, roti and butter rice, and egg rolls were all so mouth watering good. You have to acquire the taste for these things to actually appreciate them. Pricing and food portions are worth it in my opinion. If you love Indian food and asian, you gotta try this fusion. This place is a hIdden gem. My husband, who, as a meat-lover normally isn't a fan of my vegetarian escapades, was telling me " I just can't stop myself from eating these (Blazing Noodles) noodles,, they're so good! " I ordereD him the Butter Masala with chicken, mild and creamy. I ordered the Spinach Masala, and was not disappointed! The paneer kabobs were excellent and I had to check myself to be sure they weren't meat, they tasted so good! (Be sure to get a side of Tikka Masala sauce for dipping) Also ordered Vegetable Samosas, although am trying best too be gluten-free, scooped out the yummy spicy potato/mixture and loved it. Food is served in low quality disposable bowls and plates. They have taken away utensils and everything is being served in low quality plastic or disposable items. Curry items are served in a bowl with rice in it. This is just Ridiculous! Customer won't know when they are ordering that the curry dish will come in the same bowl with rice mixed in it. Instead of the Indian Naan bread the restaurant is serving some sort of a pita bread, but the menu has not been updated. Make sure to get a lot of naan with your order as well, they're all incredibly fresh. I got paneer 65 as I was craving something spicy. It does have a bit of a kick! That said, there's not a whole lot of flavor behind the kick. It was still great and i finished it all, but if you want JUST spice and not much savory flavors, this is what to go for:) The Hakka noodles were what I needed as a drunken late night noodle order - oily and with the occasional veggie crunch - but I wouldn't eat it sober. At least, not happily. The kheema fried rice - X! hot - is as advertised. Pretty effing hot for a bowl of rice. I liked it a lot! Would recommend!! I normally never write reviews. I also will say, I actually really like the food at this restaurant and have eaten at several of their locations. But today I stood at the counter for approximately 5 minutes, and no one acknowledged that I was even standing there. The guy that works there was cleaning tables, packing meals, and even walked past me, 2 feet away from me and served another guest making a pickup. For some reason it seemed, I was absolutely invisible to this person working here. Even the two cooks in the kitchen kept looking over at me with a confused face of why I was not being served or helped. The reason I probably won't be coming back though is that it took 30 mins to get our food when we just ordered two entrees and there were five other people dining in the restaurant. First of all, I don't like giving bad reviews because I support small businesses/franchises 100%. Having that said, when the restaurant offers food that is unsafe to consume and/or not sanitary, it gives me no choice but to speak up for the sake of others. Please note, I am only speaking about my experience at the Plano location on Preston Road. I hope other Masala Wok locations are meeting highest expectations in regards to safety and taste and I am planning to visit soon so I am not saying ALL Masala Wok is bad. Well, who knows? Plano location- This used to be my go to place to grab some comfort food. However, last 3 times I visited, I found foreign objects in my food. 3 times. It is beyond disgusting that I found 1) plastic fastener 2)a black, sharp piece of plastic 3) a clear plastic wrapper of somekind. All in one month. I am thankful I didnt swallow any of these but sensing and finding something unexpected in your mouth is not fun. Most importantly, this is dangerous and makes me question how in the world are they handling food and what exactly is going on in the kitchen. Interestingly enough, I read many reviews that this place failed multiple inspections in the past and I would not be surprised if the data is still the same today. I don't want to waste my time looking for the updated data because what's the point? Because I will never eat here again. But I do hope someone takes the time to investigate and inspect their kitchen to make sure they are handling their food properly. So my point- find another place for Indian food unless you really don't care about what is in your food and how it is made. There are PLENTY of other choices near by.
