Any korean bbq place that has food out in the buffet tends to make sick. Im not sure why i keep attempting. I always thought i had a cast iron stomach. After eating here, I definitely got sick. They are known for being very affordable during lunch at 20$, but their dinner price at 30$ isn't bad either. Nothing stood out for me as far as meat quality and taste. We came during their lunch special for 22.99. To me it's a great deal to enjoy a decent meal without the bells and whistle. I mean ordering the most expensive selections could be fancy, but i wouldn't be able to taste much of it as I am eating less as I get older. The menu may appear confusing as it highlights "server" and "bar." Server essentially means you order the meats from the waiter or waitress. There is a buffet area where you can select your own raw meats and hot foods; this is referred to the bar. They're side dishes you help yourself at the bar that is not served, like rice paper and tortillas. They also have condiments on the side like hot sauces, sesame oil, soy sauce and seasoning. The meats are at par for a typical kbbq. It's a decent place to grab a bite, hang out with friends, and if you've been in a long relationship to eat out. The interior isn't upscale and is tailored to the general crowd. Reminds me of K-Town spots, but better lit. What struck me the most was their kimchi. General kimchi is fermented, pungent, and sour. The kimchi here was crisp, bright in color, and sweeter. The sauce they use with the cabbage, as well as the cucumber side dishes, was delicious. Roll that up with meat in a rice paper and dip it in sesame oil mixed with soy sauce, bomb. I did notice there were mentioning of poor service in other yelp reviews. I did not experience that. Although they were short staff due to the slow hours on a Friday afternoon, they were attentive. We were checked on and had our grill exchanged several times. I recently visited Gui Gui Korean BBQ and had a really great experience overall. One thing I really liked was their self-serve station and hot bar. They had a good variety of sides including fried rice, onion rings, gyoza, and tteokbokki. It was nice being able to grab extras without having to wait. The also have tortillas and pico de Gallo so you can make tacos The meat itself was good quality and flavorful, which is obviously the most important part for KBBQ. We just found out about this AYCE KBBQ for a reasonable $23 lunch special. GUI gui also has a location in Rowland Heights. A few of the proteins need to be ordered through the server, but many marinated meats are available at a self-serve bar. There is also an appetizer/Banchan bar (although if recommend focusing on the proteins instead). I was intrigued by the tiny corn tortillas as an alternative to a rice paper wrap, but the tortillas were hard to wrap and fell apart easily. Overall meat quality is soso, more fat and less protein. I really like the marinades and prefer these to non-flavored proteins. The regular brisket and marinated brisket are both somewhat fatty (see picture), with about half of the area being fat. It will cook down and help to lubricate the grill surface. I also find the brisket slices to be slightly thicker than usual, which is okay with me since brisket cooks quite fast usually. The marinade for the brisket and pork belly is close to a gochujang, with generous amounts of sauce used. This was great for flavor, though did lead to more splattering on the grill. To me the real stars were the already marinaded proteins from the self-service bar. These are immersed in the sauce and so to intake the flavor strongly. I also like that I can choose how much of each protein to get, so I can ensure I get only as much as I want. Really liked the beef bulgogi, as well as the marinated pork stir fry. Marinated pork ribs and pork belly were solid, I just prefer other proteins instead. For sides the salad was okay, dumplings should be skipped, cheese-corn is fun to cook but has more cheese (so next time I would take a bit off before cooking), salted edamame was basic. read more

The food was really good and the meat selection was great! Unfortunately, the service experience threw us off a bit. Once we sat down, it took quite a while for a server to help us. When my boyfriend tried to get someone's attention, he was brushed off, and it also felt like assumptions were made about us ordering the lowest-priced menu option. Once we clarified we were getting the middle-priced option, the service noticeably changed. Later, when we asked for the check, our server went to grab it, but a supervisor/owner pulled him aside to talk for several minutes even though she knew we were waiting on our tab. The place was super packed, but we were able to find parking and found our way in. It wasn't busy inside but there was a kiosk that told us how to add our names to the waitlist. It said C 10-15 minutes, but as soon as we walked outside, we were flagged down by one of the waiters who said that he could get us in right away. They had a lunch special for $25 a person, which I appreciated. There was a slightly smaller AYCE menu to pick from, but we didn't even get through half of it. Some of the premium items, like beef, belly and brisket, had to be ordered directly from the server, but everything else like your standard pork belly, beef, Bulgogi, chicken, etc. not to mention the sides, we're freely available at the buffet where you help yourself. They offer the sliced meats to be delivered to the table and then a self serve station with other meat options such as pork belly, pork jowl, and bulgogi along with some sauces, rice paper, radish, and fried appetizers. We could not get past the slow service that ended up diminishing our dining experience. Having to ring the call button multiple times should not have to be done when you serve in a AYCE environment.
